eBay can be a shady place to do business, there are buyers and sellers that are out there looking to pull a fast one and sell you a used MacBook that isn't exactly what they promised. But how hard is it to find a good deal on eBay exactly? What if I were to pick a completely random MacBook from eBay and buy it? Would I get scammed? Today we're going to find out!

I got my MacBook from eBay it is in almost perfect condition. At the price I got it, I could not find anything better anywhere. So do your research before you buy. Luke helped me make the right choice.

its probably cuz these r rly common, lots of people bought them, i also have the exact same model but only with 4 GB of RAM
My boyfriend and I got the same model as one the seen in the video but the only difference is it has 256gb. We talked the guy down to $250 and it was a steal!
Exactly my same model macbook, i fitted a 500gb Samsung SSD and it's a great working horse!

I'll be honest, I was amazed when Will came out, and Luke was able to quickly and succinctly explain what to do with the RNG and where to find it. I imagine if I were in Luke's position and had one of my roommates, or shit almost anyone I know, it would involve a lot more explaining than that before anyone got anywhere...

I agree with you about Ebay and I don't trust it. But then again I've had people try to sell me bunk PCs on Craigslist as well. I usually ask a lot of questions now to feel someone out before even meeting with them. If they seem cool then I go ahead and meet with them to make the purchase. Good video Luke and congratulations on a new MacBook Air. ;)
The reason why people think 2nd hand online purchase is scammy is because people tend to fall for the cheap price (what they consider a "great deal"), and more often these listings have some kind of catches, or just straight-out being a scam.

I hear that as well. I buy used expensive camera gear. My friends say they worry about taking chances on items over $1000 or even 2k. So I can understand their concerns. I think eBay & PayPal do a good job to help make buyer comfortable now days
Hey Luke, your videos are very interesting! I started buying and selling MacBooks until I could get to a perfect deal for me. I went to a pawn shop a few days ago where they had a 2018 MacBook Pro 15" with 2.2 ghz 6-core processor for a "whopping $900"(in Luke Miani voice) because it had a "flashing folder error". So I purchased it and reinstalled the system to factory settings. it has apple care+ till 2022. After my purchase I thought "Luke would be proud of this purchase" 😂
You should be a good roommate and shoot the Dell and replace it with the MBA 😎
That was strangly fun! Just checked for a 2015 Mb Air on the main second-hand website here in Belgium, and prices here range from €400 ($370, cheapest 4Gb) to a staggering €750 ($690) asking price. Then again, importing a cheaper Mac from the US would probably be expensive and would leave me with a US Qwerty-layout. Hmm, I'll just keep looking. Thanks for all your entertaining vids!
My 2015 MBA still has 4GB of RAM and it’s useable. It’s not great, but I’ve had lot of tabs open since working from home and it really hasn’t been a problem.

Hi Luke. Love your content. I can’t remember if you shared in a previous video whether you sell items on eBay. My wife wants to update from a 2012 21.5 iMac to a 27” unit. Based on your videos, I think it would be better to look for a good/great deal on a used model versus buying a new one. Any direction you can provide is deeply appreciated.
Here’s an even sketchier random eBay idea: do the same thing with the random pages and random listing # for the page, but instead of searching “MacBook”, use “Mac Pro”; should be all sorts of letdown!
Nicely done. I'm a big fan of "last year's tech" because you get great stuff for a big reduction in price. I often sell my old mac on ebay and buy a refurbished mac from apple for a total cost of 35% to upgrade. And Apple products retain both their value and their technical 'integrity'. I often recommend to my friends that they buy old macs on ebay - but they're afraid. This video helps to show that both good values and good products are available. Great video.
i’ve had a couple bad experiences on ebay, but most of the time it’s great. the deals are amazing. i mostly buy electronics on the site.

to your point about people being afraid of buying things on eBay, I just picked up a 2015 11" MBA i5 4GB for $229 off a refurbisher showing worst-case scenario product photos of dented corners and scuffs everywhere. I bought the last unit in the auction fingers crossed. Mine arrived in mint condition and it came with a brand new magsafe charger as well.

When you took it out of the box you said you weren't sure what year it was. You can narrow it down tho. On the bottom they used a thicker font for the serial etc. stuff there pre-2015. 2015 uses a thinner font that aligns with when they thinned the OS fonts. (as long as the bottom plate isn't a replacement)

Hey, that's my MacBook Air! Well, sort of... Mine is 2017 and I upgraded the internal storage to 500 GB and... I love it! It's not my main Mac (iMac 27 late 2015 is) (8 Gigs of RAM was standard by then) but I mainely use it for training on both macOS and Windows versions of Office apps (Windows in virtualization, planning to go Boot Camp, hence the "big" drive upgrade), something I can't do on a iPad Pro, unfortunately. So I don't mind it not being Retina as it's mostely used with a beamer. But even so... Aluminum bezel is not great, though. I love the pre-butterfly keyboard and standard function keys (thank God they kept in on the latest MacBook Air! Wouldn't it be great that it would still be an option on the Pro?). It's my second MacBook Air and it is in a perfect state (I take care good care of my gears), with the original box and all. Even have a leather dBrand skin that I never installed... I paid it 800€ (VATi) for it 2 years ago new, here in Belgium, and I LUV it. I also like that I have a second Mac at hand would my iMac cought the Covid-19. And it runs for hours without looking for its charger (I often go out without it). Such a great piece of hardware. I plan to keep it for quite a while.
Honestly, I always preferred the Air's aluminum bezel - no fingerprints. My MBP's bezels always looked as though a trout had sneezed on them.

I got an old iMac for 60 bucks because the old owner thought it was broken. It only had flashing folder, yes it could have been hard drive failure or none at all but I too may chances and it worked out.
i just have got a macbook air 2017 with an 8 gigs of ram and a 128 ssd but am going to replace it soon hopefully to a 512
and it was only 350 and had like 3 battery cycles
