    Thx for taking the time to keep us up today as to what's happen'n on the farm. 1500acres right? Enough to keep you busy. LOL. Sometimes all you have to do it set up the camera and do your thing. Both you and Sandi are great commentators and editors. Much enjoy and greatly look forward your video update. Pray you get some rain.

    An excellent teaching video for those of like me who learned their farming from watching Green Acres back in the day🤣! The old adage of farming for me as a kid was poke a hole in the ground, drop a seed, water and wait for the product to grow, then ride by on a wagon and pick! More or less like a cartoon. But having watched your videos, the amount of preparing on paper with numbers and predictions while dealing with the Always changing weather, not to mention the actual hard labor and sweat AND maintenance, I have come to very much appreciate my food and when I'm saying my grace or prayers, I ALWAYS include the hardworking Famers and their Families! Very much enjoy your videos Mark! Cheers From Ohio and Keep Strutting!

    Glad to see you back! I really appreciate seeing the work that goes into prepping for harvesting. Just a side note, I purchased my first Steer to be processed and it truly brings a whole perspective on what it takes to raise, feed, fertilize, etc… even when buying produce at the store. I do think that these videos help with the reality of the hard work that goes into farming. Thanks again, Kelle from Louisville Kentucky. P.S. Sandy is amazing and the woman works her booty off. I live in northern WV, that's all it's done is rain. Farmers are having problems getting their hay up this year. East of the Mississippi River it's has rain a lot, harvest is going to be wet ground in a lot of the areas.So you are putting in nutrients into the ground to jump start the crops for next year.

Also to add to my question can the cover crop not be harvested to be used as a food source for the sheep or sold to nearby farms for a food source for animals? Thank you as always for explaining how the farm works, i find it very interesting. From South Africa 🇿🇦

    I'll probably say this every video but thank you for showing us how our food is grown. I just drove an hour to a doctor via back roads that were all farmland. I live in SW Michigan so it was grapevines (mostly for juice) and soybean and corn fields. Weather is interesting- we've had plenty of good rainstorms but they must go south of you or fall apart over Lake Huron. I'm in Kalamazoo so it's a bit south of you.

    Hello Mark, this is my first time here, however am a big fan of Sandi. I am writing to suggest you look at a few videos from Young Red Angus. He recently incorporated compost into his farming practice, reducing his nitrogen and eliminating phosphorus. If you are not already doing this, it might find it very interesting. Certainly has cut his output costs dramatically.

I remember back in the 80s when we lived on a farm we were renting, the landowner was always trying to stay one step ahead. It's not easy and no rain makes it tough. It's been a while since we have had rain as well. Trying to do a second vegetable garden, but not sure how it's going to turn out. All we both can do is try. Thank you again for taking the time to make this video, truly appreciate it. Looking forward to your next one. Take care and best always Rusty in Southern Oklahoma ❤️

    A bitt lower or quite a bitt lower?
    Here in Holland, Belgium, the north of france, and Germany the early sowed wheat, was ok up to good.
    The later one was not so good, and the same fore Barley early very good, late one's bad.

    With your interest in soil health, I've wondered if there would be any advantage, and way to do it, to get your chicken manure deeper into the soil? I ask because as a non-farmer I assume the roots of some crops go deep looking for food and water. And wouldn't deep roots help with soil compaction?

    • @MarkBrock
      @MarkBrock  Рік тому +4

      I’ve looked at making pellets out of the manure and applying that with the cart but at this time it’s too costly. We’re hoping the roots of the cover crops can move the nutrient deeper into the soil profile.

    Question the width of the axle for both the tractor and anything being towed, does that make a difference in crop planning. Does that matter or is just placed on what your planting?

    • @MarkBrock
      @MarkBrock  Рік тому +2

      Most row crops are on 30” spacings so tire widths are usually a multiple of that, for example the tractor inside tires are at 60” spacing and the outside one are at 120”

    Mark, you are working hard to improve the soil conditions and quality. I follow that closely. Very interesting! What surprises me is that on the 900-er Fendt you still use culture tires. Even with wheal-weights. Why didn't you not choos for wider tires and possible an air vent system?

    In October, per a reply to comment, you will be spray off the cover crop. What does spray off mean?

    • @MarkBrock
      @MarkBrock  Рік тому +5

      We basically, kill off the cover crop to manage any nasty perennial weeds that are growing along side the cover crop

    • @glennlangford7736
      @glennlangford7736 Рік тому +2

      Cover crops are planted to cover the soil, help to manage erosion and soil fertility, and compete with weeds, not for the purpose of being harvested. Spraying off means applying a herbicide to kill the cover crop to prepare for the growing season of the main crop.

  • @cfuller9396
    @cfuller9396 Рік тому +1

    Where I live we have red clay soil. Our neighbor basically makes it the consistency of baby powder for his corn. I see you were pleased with a much rougher texture. Is that because it lasts better over the winter (less likely to erode - I know you said the cover crop prevents it) or will you have to break it up to a finer consistency in the spring?

      Best advice would be to demo a couple different units and determine what you like best for making strips.
