why is Rick not on these reactions since the premier?
@@iRoboticGaming He's said on Discord he won't be joining back for TLOU. We don't necessarily need to know why
I was thinking that Sam had a pistol pointed at Joel, and Joel showed Ellie how to hold a pistol so someone can't snatch it out of your hand... and Sam is doing the "shhhh" with one hand. Someone is probably going to get their gun snatched away 😲lol
react to episode 5 plz its out early
Another brilliant episode! Great reaction as usual Wave Crew! Definitely seeing some parallel between this show & Mando, with Joel teaching Ellie how to hold a gun (much like Dinn & Grogu's Steel Ball scene) - looking forward to your Episode 5 reaction (out early) 👍👍👍🔥🔥🔥💯💯💯
I like the raider yelling at Joel after killing his friend, like the regular NPC in the game reacting to a fallen comrade lol
Joel needs to eat some pills 💊 so he can use he’s listing mode lol
"THEY GOT BRYAN!"
They way they had Ellie crying when Joel said sorry is EXACTLY what would happen. You're in survival mode, so you're holding back emotion, but then at that moment you get a little bit of empathy for the other person having empathy to you, and it gets overwhelming and you lose control for a moment.
Sir this is an Arby's
I cannot believe they got the voice actor for Tommy to come back and appear in the episode
I think it was confirmed that actors from the game would appear in the show
@@erikrivers1927 yeah, Ashley Johnson was in the trailer!
@@fullmetalb5241 so was Troy Baker :)
@@CanDiice001 really?? I definitely missed that lol
Troy will be a member of David's group. Ashley will be playing Ellie's mother in flashbacks with Marlene
This episode had a LOT of great moments, but perhaps my favorite moment was this:
Joel standing guard for the entire night (after Ellie expressed concern & fear about being attacked while she slept), ensuring that she sleeps soundly.
Yes!
And he was drinking coffee the next day driving because he didn't sleep at all.
Might have contributed to him not waking when Henry and Sam came in, in addition to sleeping on his good ear. Must have been extra tired and was in deeper sleep.
Add:
Also, it just occurred to me... the lack of sleep might also have contributed to him not hearing Bryan...
I saw someone else say he stood guard bc he promised she’d be fine, but he remembered the same promise to Sarah that he couldn’t keep. Didn’t want history to repeat :(
Papa Bear standing guard 🫡
Like the T800 lol
I was actually really annoyed by that, because there was less of a chance they'd be attacked out in the woods in the middle of nowhere, he should've at least tried to sleep. And driving for a day and a night with no sleep is very dangerous. I think it's been tested that one night without sleep has a similar effect as being a little drunk:
"Impaired performance from lack of sleep mimics alcohol intoxication:
- Being awake for 17 hours is similar to having a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of 0.05% (the level some countries use for drunk driving violations).
- Being awake for 24 hours is similar to having a BAC of 0.10% (above the U.S. drunk driving level of 0.08)."
One interesting detail about Joel waking up while laying on his wrong ear, is that it also means that he turned to face Ellie while they were sleeping.
Could be a subtle way of showing how he's getting closer to Ellie but how this is also causing him to get a bit softer and to slip up like this.
exactly what I got out from it, all the time he would sleep on his right side so he could hear properly but in doing so he would also face away from Ellie which I guess was a plus for him but the moment he turns to her meaning he is beginning to warm up to her and be vulnerable with her… shit goes SIDEWAYS
That actor that was begging for his life was amazing, like I legit teared up at him begging and asking for his mom.
Lots of people don’t seem to understand that part. They all think he was putting on a show but he wasn’t he was scared he was just a kid that was probably told by Cathleen too go fight. Once he was helpless he do what anyone would and beg for his life. I think everyone wants the hunters to be emotionless but in real life like Joel and Ellie everyone’s fighting for there own life’s including innocent young kids. Crying for your mom is something soldiers did in the battlefield when they knew they were about too die.
@@ryans413 I think that’s the greatness of how that was done though. 5 minutes prior we saw them faking injury. I thought from the first part he was faking and then by the end there’s that realization. Brilliant flip in the matter of a minute
Reminiscent of the Bayonet scene in Saving Private Ryan.
Yeah, I agree, that part had me tense for almost the rest of the episode
@@shavedwookie699 Reminiscent of Joel's own story of Tommy being swept up into the Iraq War too. You don't know what you're getting into.
Honestly Bella Ramsey is perfect. Yeah shes a bit different to Game Ellie but in a good way, she brings new things to the table. Also she really seems to have fun with the role!
If I just wanted a carbon copy I'd play the game again. Pedro and Bella in the show somehow feel so fresh and different while still completely embodying these characters
The only thing I'm worried about is how are they gonna age her up for season 2 are they just gonna wait or recast or what?!? Also I'm a huge fan Mr The Deep love your work R.I.P Timothy
@@Jakeyisdead isn't Bella like 20? Shouldn't be too difficult imo
@@system0fadowner251 Shit your right I heard she was way younger my bad but my point still stands she looks like way too young to play Ellie in pt 2 imo
@@Jakeyisdead she does look pretty young but it's probably gonna be a little while before they start shooting part two, as it's only been announced a couple days ago. Plus it's pretty easy to age an actor up a couple years with makeup. Just think about the amazing job they did aging Bill and Frank last episode.
I need a Joel and Ellie spinoff where they tell jokes for an entire season! Pedro and Bella are so super synergic
I am hoping, and praying, that the birthday episode plays out how it did in the game. Just 30 minutes straight of Ellie annoying the shit out of Joel in the most wholesome way possible.
@@iceman10129ml yes 🥹 honestly i’m hoping they show it all in chronological order instead of the same way the 2nd game progressed. i love this universe so much but the part 2 is so depressing that i hope we get time to see the events in between before… you know… abby and her party meet joel….
It runs in you jeans 😂😂😂😂
I’m still laughing every time I think of it 😂
nah they have no energy off screen, its just acting kid.
so super synergic does not roll off the tongue lol
The beefcake magazine was hilarious!
When Ellie asked why the pages were stuck together, Joel felt like he had an out of body experience. Lol!!
It was so hilarious but you also never see girls reaction to porn in shows so it was interesting just for being different .
Because he knew who was beating off, or because someone had beat off in it 🤣
@@xl081 O RLY?!
My jaw had dropped at that part, and then I laughed so hard when she said she was fucking with him lol
I love Ellie's giggle when Joel shakes the gun in her hand :')
I'd hoped Henry and Sam were gonna show up earlier in this episode, but now I'm looking forward to the next one.
"Humanise the villains", funny that. Because you could say Joel himself is not that great of a guy. Tess said it herself "We're not great people" & "This is your chance. You get her there, you keep her alive and you set everything right. All the shit we did." And ya'll know the game.
Ellie is so eager to learn more things and she definitelly wants to connect with Joel more than he with her at this point. I tihnk she was really happy that she made him kind of proud. Or laugh later.
Remember next episode this Friday not Sunday
@@ryans413
Didn't knew that!
Thank you.
Somebody said "We are ALL villains in somebody's story"
@@Jiad_Joy no problem lot of people missed that info
“Future Calvin” is Tommy’s voice actor from the game. Super cool that they brought him in.
Everytime he talked in the show it confused my brain lol
@@fullmetalb5241 hahahaha yes man I can't help but hear Tommy
We need a Gabriel Luna and Jeffrey Pierce meet lol be like looking in a mirror
Tommy's VA looking like a apocalypse ready war veteran is the reason I want to see more VAs get gigs doing live action stuff as well. So cool.
I like some of the nuanced performances. Like, Ramsey could have simply handed the cassette to Pascal saying, "look what I found?!" but she punches him in the arm doing so. So real.
I feel like alot of this was missing for me on the episode that flashed back to ellie and riley in the mall.
It really felt like a lot of acting. Not like they were real people. Does that make sense?
@@YaboiiLandoI get that. That's what I felt as well. You're still aware that they're acting
Pedros delivery of "Im sorry" honestly made me cry for the first time this series
That was your first time crying in the show??
Damn, you're tough lol
This episode made me so happy as someone who played the game. The magazine scene, ellie saving Joel, him teaching her about the gun and Joel can't stop laughing from Ellie's jokes.
Basically, this show just keeps getting better and better. I see Emmys in its future.
So glad they included that Joel was once on the other side- one of the people tricking and hurting/robbing potentially innocent people. We can say Bryan deserved it but a few years ago Joel, Tess, Tommy were in that position
The calling for his mom got to me.
Next episode drops on Friday because of the Super Bowl! 😎
Omg really?
@@ORION___ that’s what I saw IGN post. So idk if the BW crew will post a reaction earlier.
best part of the super bowl
@@HollyCzanirov yeah tbh I wasn't thinking about them or reactions in general...
I'm just excited about getting next episode in 4 days 🔥
@@TheJerbol 😜
One thing that kinda astounds me is how many reactors assume Ellie has no idea how to handle a gun. I mean, this episode's opening was obvious enough and people still didn't get it (What kid who doesn't know how to use a gun unloads it and removes the bullet in the chamber before pulling the trigger to test it?), but I would imagine the fact that she went to a military school in an apocalypse would make it a logical conclusion xD
Man people still assume Joel was the one army one, not Tommy, even after Joel says Tommy went in. Idk if it's just them somehow not picking up those details??? But???
Yep. She didn't learn that stuff from watching movies and tv.
Spoiler Ellie shot Riley after Riley turned so she’s shot someone before
@@ryans413 why would you spoil that? thats like a MAJOR plot point in the games
@@zeebird I’m sorry I said spoiler you didn’t have to read the rest
16:12 That’s because it’s Tommy’s actor from the game, Jeffrey Pierce. That’s why he’s so cool.
Edit: oh ok you do mention it at 43:30
i like how sam has been drawing superman, and when we see him he has a superhero-esque eye-mask painted on.
"I think of all of your kids, she would be the most likely to stab a guy in the neck" - Calvin, 2023
I loved this episode, and seeing Joel laughing at her joke at the end of the episode is the best
Everyone talked about Ep 3 last week, the next ep, ep 5, is the episode critics and early viewers really talked about, so I can't wait to see it.
I'm so excited/worried about it. This hunter's stuff worries me. Especially with them seemingly completely changing the sam and henry story line. Hopefully the main parts still end up being there.
@@fullmetalb5241 I've personally enjoyed the changes they've made. It makes it so that the show isn't just a carbon copy of the game.
@@mrknowhere6457 I have too! This episode is the first one where the expanded story parts just didn't do it for me.
Yeah, im guessing that hole is the kne ehere the bloater in the trailer was climbing out of too. So we will probably see the bloater in ep5.
@@fullmetalb5241 It makes sense to do it. In the game Henry and Sam just show up and their beef with the hunters is never explained, it just sort of happens. The show expands on that well while also providing more humanity to the hunters so nothing is just black and white.
*Joel* stayed up all night, drove for hours, fought _"people,"_ & climbed 33 flights of stairs. Take it from another 56yr old, the man's gonna be a bit punchy come bed time.🥴 🤭
"What about past you?"
Past Calvin is still running feral through the woods until you guys find him.
Did Rick not want to continue after Episode 1?
I thought he was going to be the most interested in this show due to the fact he said the story would work better for TV than it did in the game.
I was wondering the same thing. He would’ve brought an interesting angle to the post-episode discussions.
He’s been more selective with reactions so I guessed it didn’t catch his eye🤷♀️
Weird because he says he has a 4 episode rule.
Nothing non-anime is ever good enough for rick lol
@@fullmetalb5241 he enjoyed Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul.
As soon as I saw her pull out *THE* joke book I actually threw my fists sky high. And I’m so glad that they added the diarrhea joke because I was afraid they would *run* out of ideas.
But seriously, this show is so insanely faithful to the game that it doesn’t feel like a show but almost like an expansion pass/extended cut of the game. Even though I do miss the scene of Joel teaching Ellie how to use a rifle and then saying “No matter what happens, you make every show count” I still love him teaching her how to use the pistol because a) it shows the bond between these two growing and b) it tells the audience that Ellie had some training from FEDRA so her learning quickly feels natural.
And now we are getting to see the more human side of the people who were trying to kill Joel and Ellie in Kansas City (instead of Pittsburgh like in the game). Neil Druckman and Craig Mazin said their inspiration came from how throughout history there have been cases where the revolution that usurps a repressive regime becomes just as bad if not worse than the previous regime. Also loved that we got to see Jeffery Pierce (aka Tommy from the games) finally show up in the show as Perry the right hand man of Kathleen.👏🏽👏🏽
Humanising the hunters is super interesting and really helps to expand on the many shades of grey all the people here have.
The Normies references Calvin’s breakdown during ep 3 in their ep4 reaction! Love the love
Aaron saying "Is she going to pull out the gun" at 5:33 when Ellie says "This is your fault then to Joel" was hilarious, that was straight out of left field
"This is your fault then" *BANG*
So we have Tommy's voice actor Jeffrey Pierce playing future Calvin and Joel is obviously Eric with his deafness in one ear so now all we need is a stand in for Aaron.
Bella Ramsey.
@@UberTheWolf She does have the dad jokes down
The opening scene of the episode was VERY reminiscent of the "You talking to me?" scene from Martin Scorsese's Taxi Driver.
In The Last of Us: Left Behind, if you wear the triple phoenix mask (I believe it's this one) in the Halloween store and press square (might have to do it more than once), Ellie will actually say this exact line lol. The other action she performs if you press square is that she dances a bit.
Canonically, Ellie from the games has seen Taxi Driver lol
I wonder if that might be some subtle foreshadowing for Part 2 as well
There's gotta be a Bloater underneath that concrete that's caving in.
It's interesting that Joel chose to kill that man with a knife because most movies and shows you would most likely see them shoot them right? But Joel's a survivor and doesn't waste the bullet. Realism. 🙃
Everything that Joel got from Bill's stash was a luxury. He took that stuff for Ellie more than for himself. He was trying to make the journey as comfortable and smooth as possible. He knew he didn't need all that, he can make it through with much less, but he already was -even if a bit reluctant- in father mode.
Nick Offerman's wife is Megan Mullally from Will & Grace.
Pedro Pascal is such a good Joel!!!!!

Kathleen's right hand man's actor is actually an actor for Tommy in the game.
Charlie Harper always knew Rose was insane. This just confirms it lol
Most people forget that Joel hadn't slept the night before.
Our body takes what it needs.
Even if Joel would have slept on the correct side - he must have been exhausted. 33 to 45 floors of stair climbing...
Fantastic episode loved that we got Ellie joke book
Best wakeup alarm I know was from my great uncle, who didn’t hear that good. An old school bedside alarm clock in a tinbox next to the bed. Rattles, vibrates and rings that ya cant miss it.
Been waiting all day for this!
Forgot to mention it last week but since you liked frank's actor Murray Bartlett, I vote for you to watch the white lotus whenever you have a spot open.
omg yessss
Loved the reaction guys.
Props to Calvin for not talking the whole time
Such a good episode!
You guys are like the only reaction video I've seen that has the title of the episode correct. Kudos for attention to detail.
Haven't played the game (yet), but am happy to see/hear they are giving so many parts to cast of the game.
LOVE how OG Tommy makes an appearance in this episode
Loved the shot your ass off line. It is such a real world logic point, grabbing a loaded gun in a panic situation like that will likely go off. Loving the smart writing
Loved getting to see post-Apocalyptic "Kansas City!" Also, very excited for Henry and Sam, and to see Keivonn Montreal Woodard as Sam with the Deaf representation!

FUN FACT:
The actor who played Kathleen's main henchman, Perry ( Jeffrey Pierce ) in tonight's episode voiced Tommy in the video game.
Reason to go anywhere near Kansas City: The Missouri River is very wide and twenty years into an apocalypse, any rural bridges are likely destroyed. Large bridges in or near cities are probably the only ones still standing, making those cities excellent pinch points for thieves.
The bearded fella you all thought looked cool is actually the voice actor of Tommy in the games 👍
I love Aaron’s shirt ❤
Maybe y'all did in your full reaction on Patreon, but I'm astounded none of y'all picked up that Perry (bearded dude with Kathleen) was Tommy's VA from the games. It was awesome to see Jeffrey Pierce make a cameo!
Was surprised to see this episode take place in my neck of the woods, instead of Pittsburgh where it takes place in the game. Last time I recall it being the setting on screen for a major production was Looper. Despite technically being a major city, Kansas City is the red-headed stepchild of large cities in America, and almost always looked over.
Love your videos!
I have a lot of hearing loss in my right ear, so I feel your pain. Sometimes its kinda nice... like when the kids get up stupid early on Saturday. It's like a built in mute button lol.
Amazing we got tommy voice actor here ..is amazing how all the actors in the game are in the show too 😊
Yes, the song is in the game, plays during the crash
As a Canadian I appreciate Calvin wearing a Canadian hoodie
I just realized where I know her from. She is the aunt in Perks of Being A Wallflower and Rose from Two and One Half Men.
I think it’s safe to say that it is an infected kaiju under the building.
Istg this was my favourite episode, it made the gamer part of me SO FCKING HAPPY, but also the watcher part of me happy. I really liked the changes they made, I swear they have not missed ONCE. Pedro Pascal and Bella Rampsey are PERFECTLY casted, and that's comming from someone who wasn't so sure about Bella at the beginning. I'm so so pleased. I just know episode 5 is going to be INSANELY GOOD, thank god we get to see it this Friday! I was going to loose my mind if we'd have to wait til Sunday lol

One small thing that I loved is that the demonstration and instruction Joel gave Ellie on how to handle a pistol was 100% accurate. It's one of the only shows I've ever seen display the grip correctly let alone explain it, even going as far as to mention how your one hand squeezes the other. It's obvious they have good people working on the details of this show to make sure they don't screw things up.
The way Ellie acted in front of the infected in E03, I'm pretty sure this is tied to what happened to... someone she cared for.
Yeah, that probably was the first time she shoot someone
i dont know if its dark or not but when the kid was screaming mum it was like what my kids do when daddy is playing too ruffhosuey lol
Thx for the reaction
We have no idea how much manpower and resources it will take to deal with that hole. Finish the first problem you know then return to the unknown problem.

I think it's funny that the automatic captions say "hey guys cruel blonde wave" everytime a blind wave video start 🤣 mostly because it's Eric saying it and he's kind of blonde 😁
Man I shared a wall with my step mom when I lived there and I used to get really annoyed bc her alarms would go off for so long. I worked afternoon to night and she worked a normal schedule so it was always during my midsleep. Even tho I never said anything I feel bad now bc I never even considered that she could be sleeping on her hearing side and her deaf side up.
It took me this long to realize he plays Mando as well...
Winter is going to be insane.
That intro made me picture Aaron and his daughter being Nicholas Cage and Chloë Moretz from Kickass.
OMG, I just noticed that grogu is being hung on the sword rack
Joel also didnt sleep /barely slept when they were in the woods so he was in a quite deep sleep besides lying on the wrong ear.

I dont get the 'bloodlust' angle from Ellie, I feel like the scene with her and the infected she felt more resentful & angry at the infection because of what happened with Riley. Here she had to shoot a person so she was much more hesitant.
Joel his self has alluded to many times he has done much worse than has been done to him hence he survived
