heard from others that MJT uses very thin layer of nitro paint so it is meant to keep coming off or flaking off (as those individuals say). I asked MJT if theres a way they could lock in the amount of relic that is ordered and they said no. I'm guessing each one is cursed to go bald am I right?
Hello, I have 3 MJT Telecaster thin Layer Nitro bodies now for almost 8 months. They are all close to what I consider to be as good as Fender Custom Shop look and feel as far quality goes at a fraction of the price. I suggest you find one you like up for bidding on and win one. I am very happy with all of them and will buy more in the future. One note is that i have paired all the MJT Bodies with American Fender Necks and MIM Fender necks. , @@lcglazer

Great video! From what I’ve researched, MJT does tasteful aging that rivals Fender’s own custom shop. I know it’s a subjective topic like Nitro vs Poly finishes or buying new pre-faded/distressed jeans so its all a matter of taste. Personally, I dig it! Was yours a new original Fender that was sent in for relicing or is that an actual MJT build? What level of aging did you have done on it? Thanks for the great content. Keep it coming. Cheers!
Hi and thank u so much for your kind words - really appreciated. Yeah, I agree that MJT rivals the fender custom shop for sure. I bought the guitar I used in this video used so I am not sure of the origins of the guitar. So when I bought it used it was already aged by MJT. Ive had it a good while too so not sure if they would even have a record of this guitar. Its not a super heavy relic job on the body - I would say medium if that makes any sense. Keep up all that hard work on that guitar and keep having fun with it! Stay tuned - lots more killer lessons and content coming soon. Beautiful color! Thanks for sharing. I’ve been thinking of having my poly coat stripped and sending it to MJT. What color is that? Is it an aged Olympic white or maybe a vintage white?
HI and thank u for checking out this lesson and for your kind words - so appreciated. Yeah, MJT is awesome - they do such an amazing job! Mark Jenny is the man! Im not 100% sure as I bought this guitar used but it used to be more white and has aged yellow over the years so I think it was white - either Olympic or a vintage white - and is yellowing more every day! a distressed guitar is only cool if it's distressed by "your use" (willie nelson comes to mind) if you are buying it pre-distresses that is that saying about the owner?

That was a fun video. I suppose I might buy one if I really liked it and the price was right. I added more relicing to my strat 2 days a go by knocking it off the stand on to my space heater. I figured, oh, well, at least I'm playing it. It's safe in the case, but useless there. I just watched a video where a guy showed off his beautiful 10,000 dollar private stock PRS like the ones you showed at NAMM. He said a light fixture fell on it and damaged it. Ouch!!!
oh dang - damage to that private stock guitar - that must have hurt. When guitars get that expensive its hard to justify playing them live as they will get scratched up and what not. I like having that relic to beat around - if it falls off the stand and gets another scratch - more character. Take care and do you think more fun videos like this would be good or more straight lessons or mix of both for max views? Your thoughts? Thanks and rock oN! -David Taub, Next Level Guitar Inc.

Hi and thank u for checking out this video and for your kind words - most appreciated! Thats a really good question and I have to say that with the really good relic guitars that I have played they really do feel like an old guitar. I've been playing Nash basses since 2006. In my opinion, they are superior to Fender Custom shop (I owned a CS '64 Jazz bass) in tone, feel, pickups and build quality. The neck feel is incredible. His paint and relic jobs are great but not entirely realistic. The Fender CS does a better relic job. However, Nash build quality is on par with Sadowsky, which, in my experience, is the absolute best. I've own two MJT builds, and their relic jobs ae top notch...better than Nash. Danocasters looks amazing and they are, but they are super expensive.

A light run over with some fine sand paper here and there , a whack or two with a metal bar and leave it out in the elements for a bit and you've got yourself the makings of a project. No need to pay someone to do it for you. Or maybe live life with the guitar and see what comes of it.

Wayne Davis By all means try it and it'll come out like shit. Believe it or not but it actually takes finesse, experience and thought to make a relic look good and not something being abused by a child.
@@bigbassjonz Just because i say my relic is the best sounding guitar i've ever heard is not the same statement as 'your guitar has to be a relic to sound good" but in any case i get your sarcasm, so in response to that" fuck you"

Agreed. I just don't get it. It's like buying a new car and beating the shit out of it to give it character. As for the feel of a guitar. I get that certain guitars just feel broken in and comfortable. But that's why you play many and wait for the one to get your attention.

In my opinion relic Strat is one of dumbest ideas Fender came up with even though they profited ,its useless to the purest. I remember in 77' I purchased a used Strat ,metallic green 64 L.series Paint flaking off, dingy pick-up covers, knobs, smelled always jumped out of tune that guitar was special ,during this period everything seen was natural, blk,WHT, Sunburst. This thing today opens the gate for fakes

A lot of people would think I'm crazy for doing that. I love it! Thanks for asking me for my opinion!! : )
Hey there - thanks again for all your kind words on my teaching and videos - means a lot to me and I so appreciate it - u rock! Wow! Thats so cool u have that sweet home alabama DVD that I produced a while back - man that was years ago - amazing how time flies. So glad that u enjoyed that one. Fun one to play for sure. Yeah, like u mentioned I will try and do a good mix of content and lessons and hopefully I can continue to grow the channel while bringing the best possible content and lessons I can to players and musicians. I try and keep the lessons light and fun and try to be entertaining, sometimes I feel like I may be talking too much or boring - hard to listen to yourself so much when editing all the footage. But I am going to keep polishing and trying my best! Take care and have a rocking day! -David Taub, Next Level Guitar Inc.
Relics look cool as hell when done right but you're spot on about the feel. That's easily the biggest advantage. That pre-broken in feel is heaven!
for sure! Thanks so much for checking out this video and for your kind words - so appreciated! Take care and keep on rocking and please stay tuned for more killer content and lessons coming soon. And rock on! -David Taub, Next Level Guitar Inc.

Does it really FEEL like an old guitar? I dont really care about looks but feel. Old guitars just have a certain feel
Hi and thank u for checking out this video and for your kind words - most appreciated! Thats a really good question and I have to say that with the really good relic guitars that I have played they really do feel like an old guitar. Some of the poor relic jobs dont feel so old - but the good ones do as they put so many hours into all the relicing and getting it right. And be sure to take a good look around the channel as we have tons of killer content and lessons taught in the same format - lots of fun stuff. Enjoy and stay tuned - lots more lessons and content coming soon. I also have another UA-cam channel at EPIC GUITAR INSTRUCTION which is more song based - so be sure and check that channel out also and learn some killer songs - lots of killer lessons and content as I post on both channels. Keep up all that hard work on that guitar and please subscribe to the channels. Take care, and rock on! -David Taub, Next Level Guitar Inc. & EGI
Danocasters looks amazing and they are, but they are super expensive.
right on - thank u for your insights - most appreciated. I agree with you that the MJT relics are top shelf. I like NASH guitars as well - really nice but so pricey - but great guitars for sure. Thank u for watching. And be sure to take a good look around the channel as we have tons of killer content and lessons lots of fun stuff. Enjoy and stay tuned - lots more content coming soon. Relic guitars - the plastic surgery of guitars 🤨

A light run over with some fine sand paper here and there , a whack or two with a metal bar and leave it out in the elements for a bit and you've got yourself the makings of a project. No need to pay someone to do it for you. Or maybe live life with the guitar and see what comes of it.
Hi Wayne and thanks so much for checking out this video. Yeah, there are so many ways to get the relic work done. Fun stuff for sure. By all means try it and it'll come out like shit. Believe it or not but it actually takes finesse, experience and thought to make a relic look good and not something being abused by a child.
While you're at it toss it down the driveway then drag it behind your car for a few miles, it will probably look exactly like Fender custom shop.
My fender relic is the best sounding guitar i have ever hear in my life...
Yeah man I bet. Good thing it looks old and beat all to pieces or there's no way it would sound that good.
bigbassjonz you wouldn’t understand
@@user-zd8vg1nl5g I agree with you. I definitely wouldn't understand.
bigbassjonz at least you’re smart enough to realize that much
@@bigbassjonz Just because i say my relic is the best sounding guitar i've ever heard is not the same statement as 'your guitar has to be a relic to sound good" but in any case i get your sarcasm, so in response to that" fuck you"
Let ME relic my own guitar, i dont need someone else doing it. I HATE reliced guitars.
Hi Mike and thanks for checking out this video. Yeah, I get that for sure - like I said in the video most people either love them or hate them. And I get either way. The feel is the big thing as well as having a guitar that has a great feel and sound that you dont have to worry about as far as getting dinged up and scratched. Just a few of my thoughts from the video.Take care and keep on rocking and please stay tuned for more killer content and lessons coming soon. And rock on! -David Taub, Next Level Guitar Inc.
Agreed. I just don't get it. It's like buying a new car and beating the shit out of it to give it character. As for the feel of a guitar. I get that certain guitars just feel broken in and comfortable. But that's why you play many and wait for the one to get your attention.
MJT is better than a Custom Shop ...👍
Hi Damien and thank u for checking out this video - most appreciated. Yeah, I think Mark Jenny, MJT, really has the relic thing dialed in. He does such the killer job for sure. I disagree. With poly you'll be onto your 5th fretjob before you see any ageing. And even then it looks weird because poly keeps that new shiny look
This thing today opens the gate for fakes
right on Duane - I think a lot of folks hold that same opinion as you that the relic opens the door to fakes. I think most either love them or hate them. Never a big fan of relic guitars pay enough money for Fender strat it better be spotless and shine like a new car, once apron a time you could get a good discount for buying scratch and dent merchandise now they charge you extra for that, seems the world has started spinning backwards Ahahahahaaah!
