The high tech brick wall was my favourite bit
That's the main reason I wanted to move into this flat
@@AlfieVaughanMusic @John Vaughan Are you guys SRV's grandson or something?
@@rockweiler4638 Hahaha. I wish. He's my Dad ;)
Same
I know, IMAGINE building a whole brick wall just to help relic a guitar!!
"I used a high-tech brick wall to do more relicing" lol
The best tool for the job 😜
This thing is sooo beautiful man! I love shell pink.
The one guitar I'm dreaming about building looks almost like this, but with a 3 tone sunburst beneath the pastel color
Thank you! Ahhh great choice. I love the look of the ones with 2 finishes on top of each other. Very cool
That blew my mind. It's the best relic build I've seen and the end result is astounding. Well done 👍👍👍
Thanks very much! I'm really happy with it 😁
You made an awesome work here! I love when some guitar player go on and made his own special custom shop guitar!!! Absolutely fantastic!
Thanks Jorge! I'm really happy with it. I play it every day! :D
Plot twist: there was no guitar in this video, it was all just CG.
Ahhh you got me. I used a noise modifier to scratch the paint off!
watching this over, it's so great. Thank you for documenting all your steps and materials!
Thanks Tom! Glad you like it :)
I don't really like reliced guitars but that looks pretty damn great.
Haha thank you! They're quite polarising 😂
Hey Alfie, Just found your channel today and saw the guitar you made for your dad so I started checking the channel out. so far so good! Lovin it so far. Keep it up
Thank you Ernie! :)
That guitar is freaking stunning, yet also beastly. I have a shell pink player, but wanting a reliced one to match my reliced purple Tele..
Thanks! I really like it 😁
Like danish petes purple
What an awesome Strat! I love the Shell Pink and your relic job looks great. I'm in the process of collecting pieces for my first build and I imagine this video will be a big help.
Thanks! Yeah it turned out awesome 😍 good luck with your build 👍
I am absolutely in love with this guitar! It looks amazing, even with the newer finish you put on it. Currently I only have one strat in olympic white and my dream is to upgrade everything about it and then relic it like this one. I think I’ve watched this video more times than I can count to see the fantastic process you go through to make it look so good.
I also think custom built or modded guitars are so much better because they really give that personal touch that you just can’t get from a custom shop
I wish there were more people that would make videos like this, keep up the amazing work!
Thanks very much! It's only getting better and better the more I play it too 😁 absolutely love it. One of my friends who's a musician picked it up a few weeks ago and said it's the best strat he's ever played
This is fantastic work and a great video. I love seeing people who take ownership of their guitars - nothing wrong with buying a relic, but the story behind this one is so much better.
Thanks very much Jeremy! I totally agree. It has a lot of sentimental value to me now and I'm looking forward to being able to take it out and play it live knowing I put it together with my own hands :)
I'm just about to go down a similar, less relic route with a lovely bargain squier affinity with great neck I just picked up, aiming for SD Li'l 59 for the bridge. I actually like the stock pickup middle and neck! but there's always room to experiment. Great vid and build...why go custom shop!
Thanks! Good luck with your build :)
Poly does not relic well
One of the better relic video(s)/channel I’ve been able to find.
Thanks! :)
Normally I find vids like this kind of exhausting but you nailed it man. Good shit.
Thanks a lot! :)
Mate that looks and sounds amazing. Great job. I've done some mild relicing by way of accidentally smacking my guitar on stuff as I jam in my tiny apartment. I find a number of beers helps the process along nicely.
Thanks a lot! Yeah I also find doing your own guitar maintenance does the trick. I drop a screwdriver or something on the paint every time I change strings 😂
I am currently modding a Squier, and I loved your video. It's super motivating to see such projects come to life. Your guitar looks and sounds killer, love it. Thanks a lot for sharing!
Thank you! I'm so thrilled with how it turned out. It's still my main guitar. I played it at its first gig a few weeks ago and it sounded great 🤘
All the banging, scraping, knocking and finding a pink mist on all the cars and then rock music! Your neighbor's must love you! Actually she's beautiful! And you did a great jod! And sounds great bravo sir! Oh and the exploding Dremel adds to patina.
Haha the pink most on my balcony was a right pain the next day! Luckily for the neighbours I usually play with headphones 😎
Great sounding guitar, great playing, very nice outcome on your project!!!!!
Thanks Alexander!
The acid is used to etch PCBs and I use it as well. Be careful as it can completely strip certain finishes so you’ll go from relic to ruined.
Nice job 😊
Hahaha 😂 good to know! Thanks :)
Real men love Pink.
Exactly 😎
I bought a factory reliced guitar and loving it. I have been using it and also displayed in our living room. I have the cort sunset tc worn butter. 😊
Super high quality! Great build and playing
Thank you! :)
Man, that looks like my dream guitar as well. Love your work.
Thank you! I'm very happy with it 😎
This is a dope ass build brother, love what you did man🤙
Thank man, glad to hear it 😁
The pink is absolutely killer! Looks awesome mate!
Thanks! 😁
Great job man! Awesome result!
Thank you!
Great job pretty sure you will become a master builder in a couple of years for a big brand! Your guitar reminds me a lot Tyler Bryant Pinky guitar
Haha thanks! Yeah I used a photo of Tyler's guitar as reference for bits of the relicing. And of course it shell pink!
@Fer Ramirez sh*t, just commented pretty much the same thing
Question: Did you actually use coffee for the wood stains? I'd totally do this too but I'm scared it'll just smell like coffee for the rest of its lifetime lol
Haha yes I did! I would have bought some woodstain but I was too impatient to wait for it to be delivered so I did some googling and found that coffee works. It doesn't smell at all now. I'd say it did a little for a few days but only if you put your nose next to it. I wiped it down with a wet cloth after putting the coffee on which probably got rid of most of it. You just have to be careful not to rub too hard or the stain will come off!!!
Very enjoyable in 13 min. Great job. Please keep it up
Thank you!!!
Excellent video and build mate, really enjoyed watching it.
Thanks a lot!
I think an aged nickel cover would look really nice on that humbucker
I'm considering it! I aged the covers on my 335 and it looks really nice 👌
Ironic that you're building a rock and roll instrument while wearing a t-shirt of someone that not only outlawed rock and roll, but murdered hundreds of thousands of people.
I just like the design 👀 it was a gift
And ripping off Fender!
Nobody wears a Che Guevara shirt because they “like the design”. Plus it was a “gift”? Communists really are mentally handicapped.
Oh there. One of those stupid Che Goober-ah shirts. Murderous commies on t shirts sold to people who think that is somehow "sticking it to the man". That man did a lot of awful things and led others to do even more. I am trying to not watch politics for the rest of today, but, there it is. Boo. Learn about that guy. You'll likely not want to wear his likeness any more. Back to guitars....
@@AlfieVaughanMusicnow that you know, hopefully you throw it out.
That you did this great job with just a brick wall, a dinner table and a few artifacts that can be found on the nearest Walgreens (or the equivalent from wherever you are) is even more impressive.
Haha thank you very much :) I've had a few goes at it now. My first attempts at relicing were a bit rubbish 😂
Super super impressive man, excellent job and stunning guitar!! 👍
Thanks a lot! 👍
Amazing that you all make this look so easy 😂 Great build, looks pretty with the relic parts!
Haha thanks! I think the main thing is just confidence 🤣 having the nerve to do it in the first place is the hardest bit
Looks very nice! I love it!!
Thanks Henry!
I built 2 Warmoth Strats the last 2 years but they’re not traditional, more of a modern superstrat with a single humbucker. My next project I want to do a traditional Strat much like this, heavy relic, shell pink, with a few modern conveniences as well like you did, especially the heel truss rod. I have the side adjust/heel adjust on my current Warmoth necks and I think I’ll do the same on my next Strat.
This is a beautiful guitar and I love how you showed everything so clearly throughout the steps of the build. For me the painting/sanding is the trickiest part. You did a great job man, congrats.!
Thanks a lot Nick! :)
That guitar is absolutely stunning!
Thanks! :)
I'm planning on building my first guitar this month and this video is so helpful and inspirational lol (I will need to see tutorials about solding the electronics), yours look great, congrats man!
Thanks Rodrigo! The electronics aren't too bad. This was only my second time doing it. I'd say just take it slow and find a good wiring diagram to follow :)
If you haven’t done the soldering already, check out six string supplies channel - he has the most detailed and organised demos
This is the best non Fender relic job I have seen on youtube. I have been doing a lot of research while waiting for my nitro aerosol to arrive. I want to do something similar but I can't find anything about the custom shop techniques, which I am very interested in, since the results are not that good on pretty much every relic tutorial I have seen. Today I finally found a clip of Ron Thorn talking about masking tape and exacto knives but couldn't quite picture what he was saying and then I found this video!!! Thanks a lot for posting this!! What an amazing guitar you built!! Now I am wondering about cracking the nitro and how to go about it. Thanks again!!
Thanks Gabriel! Yes there's a lot of dodgy ones out there. Not saying mine is perfect but even the fender ones look a bit rubbish up close I've found. The edges of the lacquer are always so clean like it's been surgically removed rather than organically worn off. This turned out pretty good I think!
As for the cracking, use a hair dryer and an upsidedown air duster spray to hear and then rapidly cool the lacquer. It expands and contracts and makes it crack. I've done it on a couple of my les Pauls. It really works!
You went all out on the relic look, very nice. I actually like it
I kept my parts new to give it more pop, it's giving relic, but also new which is what I was after
Thanks! Yeah I think that looks cool having them new too. I left some bits new on another guitar but it was bugging me how they didn't match so I relic all the hardware now too when I do it
hope it plays like it sounds and looks. Congrats
Yeah it feels lovely! The neck is really comfortable :)
Great job. A beautiful relic using common stuff. No fancy pancy crap.
Thanks Jeff!
I just bought an American Original 1960s Strat in shell pink, I love the colour!
They're great aren't they! Really like that series. And yes, the pink rocks 🤘
Guitar looks great and sounds great !
Thanks a lot!
Looks good man! Great build up!
Thank you!
Beautiful, wow, thanks for the info, the relic look great. I cant wait to build my own. The satisfaction and feel of achievement my be great. 👍
Thank you :) Good luck with yours!
Doing something similar. Building a shell pink heavy relic strat but for mine I’m putting Seymour Duncan hot rails in the bridge position and Seymour Duncan single coils for the middle and neck positions. Hoping to use it to play post punk and other post hardcore songs as well as blues riffs and songs. This video is definitely a big inspiration!
Thanks! Good luck with your build
From Texas...GREAT GREAT GREAT JOB!!!...Well done!!!
Thanks a lot! 👍
Really enjoyed watching that dude, Strat in pink looks sweet.
Thanks!
Some very clever ideas here!
Thanks!
It looks great, good job!
Thanks! :)
Awesome guitar love the color!!!
Thank you! Me too 😁
absolutely awesome guitar
Thank you!! 😁
Excellent work, very impressive!
Thanks Tommy!
Great job. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you!
Man that's a beautiful strat!
Thanks a lot! 😁
Great combination of tones...jamm on, Mon!
Thanks a lot! :D
1.82k subs keep it up that so cleann!!!
Thank you!
You did a great job! Cheers!
Thank you!
Very cool video.
I love building guitars. It’s so much more fun than buying one off a wall. Thanks for sharing
Thanks! I agree. I'd be nervous doing it for a Les Paul or something but bolt on necks are so easy!
Nice video sir, it was worth resisting my urge to sleep for this 13 minute video. 👏Thanks for the coffee staining idea
Haha! Thanks. And no problem :)
You are super talented my friend ❤️
Thank you!! :)
Cool video man 🤙🏼
Thank you!
now this my friend, is one really beautiful guitar
Thank you! :D
Awesome build!
Thank you!
Amazing job!
Thank you!
Awesome video man!
Thank you! :)
Great video, thinking of making something similar myself. I have some Monty's Montyspresso that I used on the neck of my G&L ASAT when I took the laquer off of the neck - Matt has a video on this - and it worked well so would probably use that instead of coffee on the neck and body but some really useful info here. Man, this has really got me excited to build something myself, thanks!
Thanks Mark 👍 Yes I've seen the montyspresso stuff. I'm sure I'll pick some up next time I'm doing something like this
Very nice job! Very enjoyable video!
Thanks!
Wow dude, your guitar looks so good, I hope I'll be able to get my dream guitar too.
Thank you! I really like it :D
Excellent job....beautiful guitar!
Thanks! :)
Great video!
Thanks!
10 out Of 10 bud, great job 👍🏻
Thanks a lot! :)
Man this was such a cool build process.I want to try building or assembling a guitar as well In the future. This really inspired me to try it one day.My dream Guitar is a Rickenbacker.
Thanks, glad you like it! Haha good luck 😂 Rickenbackers are much harder to do yourself because they don't have bolt on necks!
just the other day I took an old 20€ flea market Strat and did a very similar thing. Instead of fancy nitro paint I used random paint from the hardware store. Base coat is a light blue with some orange and yellow streaks on it and a lot of burn marks. Was a very fun project! I recommend every guitarist do something like this!
Interesting! Does the paint seem to make it sound any different?
@@AlfieVaughanMusic not at all! At least not that I can remember. It’s very DIY punk, with some super high output humbucker in the bridge. I actually cut the pickguard slot for that myself and it’s super janky, but I love it. It’s a perfect punk guitar.
I have to say, this SH-4 in bridge position totally surprised me. It sounds awesome and it seems to not overwhelming single coil pickups. Great job with assembling this pink beauty! :)
Thanks! I think it sounds great too. I read a lot of reviews and it seems very popular so I figured there's probably a reason! Happy customer :)
@@AlfieVaughanMusic it makes me want to buy my own zebra SH-4. Did you try any lower output humbucker in Strat? Like Pearly Gates?
@@Kosmacz12 Nope this is the first I've tried. I don't have a huge amount of humbucker knowledge. I've always been a single coil player other than my Les Paul. But really happy with this SH4!
@@Kosmacz12 I had the pearly gates in the bridge of an ash strat and hated it, too bright and harsh. Also there are two versions of the pearly gates, one came stock in some fenders and another sold aftermarket. I can’t remember which I had. The 59 is my go to for pairing with single coils, if you want humbucker and still sort of fit what a strat does. Note avoid the normal 59 it has long legs for a deeper body like a lea paul.
@@ass_jay I know - Pearly Gates 'Plus' was offered in Fender Lonestar and other HSS Stratocaster. It was a little bit overwound and had Alnico V magnet. I've found this one too icy and harsh. Still the regular one in alder/rosewood Strat is gorgeous! :)
Beautiful, it reminds me at the Tyler Bryant's strat
Thank you! That was one of the ones I used as reference when I looked at photos. Tyler even commented on a photo of it on my Instagram 🤣 no idea how he found it. Maybe someone sent it to him
Sounds great!
Thanks! 😁
Looks really good.... Also sounds great 👍
Thank you!
Much respect for the amount of work U've put to make this thing alive. I imagine that is what is happening to people which already know how to play on guitar, and still want to go next level? :D
It's not my colour, but that is actually a matter of preference. Have fun with it! :)
Thanks Tomek! Yeah I knew the specs I wanted but didn't want to buy a custom shop so I thought I'd try and do it myself :)
This is nice, a Warmoth custome made, add some Fender decals, then doing it all while wearing a Gibson tees.
Hahaha I didn't even think about the Gibson shirt until I noticed it when I was editing :')
Sounds pretty good man. I had a 2003 mim players strat, shell pink, one of the best strats I've ever played. I couldn't bring myself to destroy the perfect finish.
They're great guitars! Haha yes it's much easier doing it from scratch rather with nitro than removing the poly finish. I refinished my MIM and American strats too and it was a pain in the ass!
@@AlfieVaughanMusic tell me about it. I've tried it on several bodies and my Yamaha bass was by far the worst. Yamaha bakes that stuff in there! I think you've picked the best color to relic. Either the shell pink, faded fiesta red or the aged white or yellowed white. Any newer shade doesn't really work
Looks killer mate!
Thanks a lot! 😁
Love it man! so awesome...I vow I shall do something similar one day!
Thanks!
that's a really gorgeous guitar
Thanks a lot! :)
Looks great!
Thanks!
Looked great
Thanks! :)
Nice Work!
Thank you!
What a super looking guitar. Sounds great. Absolutely brilliant job....! You make it look so easy. How many of these does it take to get wrong before you end up with a perfect version, like this??
Thanks very much! This is the second guitar I've built. I refinished my American strat a few times in nitro trying relicing and got a bit better each time. Then I built the purple Tele which I did a video about and it went really well. So this was the 5th try at it I guess and I got better each time. I found the main thing that made a difference was looking at lots of reference images to get it looking right :)
@@AlfieVaughanMusic Well it's a great job. You've inspired me to have a go when I get the time! Cheers, Alfie!
Guitar looks and sounds awsome 👍
Thank you!
Great built buddy
Thanks! :)
Nice Stratocaster!!!!
Thanks Eric!
Very cool man. I want to make one.
Thanks a lot! :)
I’m doing a similar thing in sonic blue, but I’m using a vintage 70’s strat body that turned out flawless once the original paint was removed. I just couldn’t bring myself to banging it up against a brick wall though.
Nice! It's a great colour
Cool guitar, cool video, cool guy
Hahaha 😂 thank you!
Amazing! 🙌🏽
Thanks Juan!
great job man! that strat will probably hold that special place with the best of your collection i bet. also, where do you get your water slides from? I know they can be hard to find at times. thanks man!
Thanks a lot! I got them on eBay from a company called voodooDecals. They're great! I've used them for 2 teles and 2 strats now and they're always come out looking good
