  • Is it iceGear or is it iceWorks? Either way Satoshi ( developer ) has done it again with Kronecker, a Clockwork Synthesizer. As with all iceGear um iceWorks synths this one has a great sound to it and I find this one to be quite unique, thanks to the added Particle trigger sequencer thingy. The interface is full of knobs and can be a bit daunting at a first glance. However once every module and modulation source has been identified, its easy to get going creating patches from scratch. In this video we are popping up the hood on this clockwork synth, having a look at what makes Kronecker go tick tock.

    Great tutorial, Jakob! So far I didn‘t know how to get a grip on this rather unusual synthesizer. Now I know...err...hopefully...maybe...

    Great vid, just bought this today and this saved me a lot of time just blindly figuring things out, I know some people are in a rush to be first to demo apps, but you actually seem take the time to learn them first. I have all of Iceworks synths and thought this was going to be too similar to Mersenne, but this vid shows it isnt and the possibilities it has, great job bro.

    Jakob, how about Apple making a HDMI and Camera kit all in one? This way if you have a Ipad mini you can have a large monitor to see better and play your midi controller at the same time? What do you think?????????????

    • @zentriceggofficial
      @zentriceggofficial 6 років тому +2

      They are completely different synths. Layr is obviously more complex. This one is much easier to get into and create. Both are great synths though.

    • @emil-9432
      @emil-9432 6 років тому

      They’re completely different, but I think Layr is simpler than this.

      I *just* added Kronecker, specifically because I wanted something fresh, not just larger helpings, and it is the most beguiling instrument...I know it can do stuff I’m not capable of discovering yet, and that makes me want to spend even more time with it! So far, more time spent with Kronecker than with LayR, so can’t compare.
      Does “ Kronecker “ mean ‘witch’s corner’ or something similar? Whatever, I love the way this one’s bent

    Hi Jakob!
    Thx for another good review 👌🏻
    I've been following you for a couple of years now and been buying many apps through your affiliate links.
    I have a question. I produce psytrance music with Ableton and a bunch of hardware synths. My go to vst synths are SH-101 for bass, Serum & Sylenth1 for leads etc.
    Is there any iOS synths that can be compaired with these synths?
    Especially the SH-101 for bass sounds. I really whish that Roland could transfer the cloud software synths to iOS. Then The transition to 100% iOS production would be definite for me. We already have BramBos Troublemaker which is an amazing replica of the TB-303.
    Can you please give me some feedback on this, thx!
    I would also suggest that you do a video on this topic. For people who are interested in transition to iOS. A collective video for the alternatives in iOS apps for the most common synths in vst etc.
    My main apps is currently:
    Cubasis, Fuguemachine, Animoog, Model 15, Figure, Troublemaker, DRC.
    These are the main big ones, then I have many more cheaper apps also.

    The one thing that stood out for me was the ability to put a filter on the delay! Has this been done in an app before?

    • @JakobHaq
      @JakobHaq  6 років тому

      As I mentioned in the video this type of modulatable gritty filter is something that iceGear does with his synths. Laplace, Laurentz, Mersenne, Redshrike all include a delay module like the one in Kronecker.

    • @DJMulungo
      @DJMulungo 6 років тому

      I think Laplace is the only one I own, but I´ll check it out, thanks!! If any dev read this: Implement this in your app now!! :D

    nice video again.couple of questions: is this synt(and lorentz) light to cpu? what reverb you use at that song on cubasis?

    • @JakobHaq
      @JakobHaq  6 років тому

      Ok so I can’t give you a completely accurate report on CPU load because I have no real way of measuring this. However going by the performance of my projects and the CPU meter in Cubasis I am able to give an estimated cpu load. Kronecker, Laplace, Lorentz, Mersenne is pulling about the same amount of the CPU (comparative to Poison-202) about 20% on my Pro. Whereas something like Model D will draw way more than that, almost 40% from the looks of it, but not completely accurate because I can run three instances of it in Cubasis before hitting a snag. I can run 4-5 instances of the formerly mentioned synths by iceWorks and even up to 9-10 of Poison-202. Btw by “hitting a snag” I’m referring to anything from slowed down graphics, clicks n pops and even apps flatlining (loud distorted sound and then total quietness).

    • @hubbysland
      @hubbysland 6 років тому

      yesterday i made some cpu test with my instruments on air2. kauldron is way lighter than other AU synths that i own and now i want to buy some light to cpu AU synths that i actually use in air2. i want to use atleast 3 instances + effects. any recommends?

    • @JakobHaq
      @JakobHaq  6 років тому

      Btw, I use EOS2 by Audio Damage in that track. It’s my most favourite reverb ever since it came out, but it’s pretty heavy on CPU. I have it loaded on three instances of Kronecker in that track.
      The least CPU hungry effects are the built in effects inside Cubasis. They use less power then any AUv3 alternative. I use them a lot except from when I do tracks like this. But I always bounce/record my stuff and remove plugs whenever I keep producing on a track. Poison-202 is kinda light, Lighter than most actually.

    I’m trying to decide between this and Mersenne (yes, money is that tight). Which would you suggest?

    • @JakobHaq
      @JakobHaq  5 років тому +1

      Wel, Kronecker has a lot more features and is built around the sequencers inside. You’ll have more options with that one but it takes way more time to make sounds with it. Mersenne is more straight forward and quicker to get results with. Both sound great, but I’d start out with Mersenne if I where you.

      Jakob Haq thanks for the advice man! FYI - And Production on a new UA-cam channel, called the process. Going to be discussing the creative process as it relates to sound and audio. Most likely will not be doing reviews and such. My focus is going to be more on the creative aspect, the creative process. It will also be a platform to explore adult ADHD, which I was diagnosed with a year ago After many years of struggle with mental health. I’m going to explore, how the ADHD brain interfaces with the creative process, In both positive and negative ways. I don’t know how familiar you are with this particular cognitive diss order, but folks with ADHD tend to live inside the process. Which would explain why I have always been fascinated with processes, particularly creative ones, be it Music, sound design, theater, literature, sculpture… All of which I do or have done. Somebody told me that I am what is considered a multi potentiality. Which is just a fancy way of saying renaissance person LOL… Which are used to think was just a fancy way of saying I can’t commit to one medium. LOL
