Hey Jakob, I'm one of the devs of the synth working closely with Aure and Matthew. Since you found the hidden dev panel we wanted to clarify what the parameters/settings are: Parameters (saved with presets): As you explained the 3 compressors are 1) reverb input compressor, 2) compressor on 100% wet reverb output before mixing, 3) the final final master compressor (default settings are more like a limiter). We've carefully set the defaults to minimize distortion and provide a baseline loudness...note that all the sound designers who created the bundled presets used these default settings. Users can change these but it can be a rabbit hole. DelFCut: We have a low-pass butterworth filter on the delay input that tracks the oscillator filter cutoff. It defaults to 0.75. If your oscillator cutoff is 10_000HZ the delay input cutoff will be 7_500HZ. This way the input to the delay will always have a lower cutoff frequency than the oscillator's cutoff frequency. It gives a beautiful separation between the oscillators and delay. DelFRes: Doesn't have an effect because we currently have the resonance of the delay input filter set to 0. PreGain is the gain on the input to the final master compressor. DSPParamHalftime: Almost all dsp parameters are "smoothed" to reduce artifacts when switching presets, or zippering when consuming UI events. You can make this a fast or sllloooooowwww smooth with this parameter. Settings (stored in settings, not saved with presets): LockArpRate: OFF by default. When enabled: loading a preset will ignore the preset's tempo. This is great for when you want to jam at a constant tempo and blaze through presets. When we add tempo sync (i.e., Ableton Link) we might have to change how this works. LockReverb: OFF by default: When enabled: Loading a preset will ignore the preset's reverb settings. I like to use this when I want to record a dry signal. LockDelay: OFF by default: When enabled: Loading a preset will ignore the preset's delay settings.
Thank you so much for the clarification of the controls and parameters! Also, I take my hat off to you and everyone that made Synth One possible! It’s a real gem you all deserve to patyourselves on the back. Great job!
Just trying to "pay it forward"...really hoping someone blows my mind with a track that uses the Tune panel! Correction to my earlier comment: "pre-gain" on the dev panel is identical to "master volume" on the main panel. Master Volume is really the input gain to the final compressor/limiter of the synth.
AudioKit Synth One gets the full Haq treatment!!! Brilliant Jakob! And yeah the whole dev team deserves lots of kudos for giving us this beauty of a synth.
💙HOLY SNAP! How cool is that secret panel? Nice find!! +2 for your production quality!! 👏 Thanks for showing some of my patches and for the shout-out, Buddy! WOOT! 🤗😁👊
When I was developing software I would sometimes put things like that to test features before it was ready to release, but I would disable the way to get to it before releasing or tell only certain clients about it. I hope that now that they know that we know, they may disable it until it is properly tested, but that would not make sense for an open source project. This is funny actually. Maybe Mathew did it on purpose to show to people he wanted to. Oh boy this is fun. Great find Jakob!!!!
Pro epic video! Love it! My favorite preset of all: Interstellar!!! Beautiful synth, magestic sound, a true gift to all musicians worldwide! Thanks Matt and team! 🎸🎹🙏🙌🏼🎹☝️❤️
By the way Jakob, I discovered that the sequencer’s octave range is really 4, 2 up and 2 down, if you touch and highlight the pitch value displayed above each slider. That gives you the 2nd octave up or down.
Nothing to complain about your Big Big Ego, Jakob. Part of it is your contagious enthusiasm which i am sure has inspired many people to make iOS music and have fun with it! Well at least that‘s the case for me... :)
I downloaded AudioKit Synth One on my iPhone and oh my oh my what is this a great software synthesizer! And totally free, that’s awesome. Shout out to all the people who made this happen. Many, many, many thanks!!!
There is a hidden function in D1 too. If you click on „about“ in the upper right corner it opens the half window with the expected info window. If you click there on to the „D1 Picture“ on the left side, a autoplay modus starts immediately. You can now close that page an go to main and skip the Presets while the App is playing by itself. You can stop the autoplay in the same way you started it. Go to „about“ and click on the D1 Picture again. Cheers
I’m late to the party but I LOVE this synth, had to say! This whole project is da bomb and congrats on getting the “HAQ PANEL” editing page in the app, mate! 😎👍
what a great guy, the synth sounds great too. really wanted this, but i am still on ipad 3 because of my trusty alesis idock 2, i need to get up to 64 bit sooner or later though, just wish someone would make another flexible idock (nice to have the stability and angle and the in/outputs) and apple keeps some kind of ipad standard. nice job jakob.
I just D/L'd Synth One and was delighted to learn there's even more to it! The issue I have is I'm wanting to be able to play this Synth and/or a Keyboard/ Piano app into my Garageband scores on my iMac (27" mid-2011) running OS 10.13.6 from my iPad. Unfortunately, my iPad is a 4 running iOS 10.3.4 and I believe MIDI is not supported yet. At least I have been unable to get it working on either direct (Lightning to USB 2.0 ) connection or on Bluetooth. I can use the keyboard on GarageBand on my iPad and then transfer the track but... Any ideas?
Thanks for making this video. I learned a few things about this awesome synth. First time iPad owner and i stumbled into a good app. Thanks for all thst you
My pleasure! Welcome to the channel and thank you for watching! My channel is pretty much based around portable mobile music making so you’ll find loads of content featuring iOS music production type apps, and lightweight portable hardware stuff. Have fun! 👊🏼
Jakob, this is a great video. I just "discovered" Synth One and now learning my way around synths. This video helped me a lot. Thanks! What is the scale of the Detune button? It ranges from -4.00 to +4.00. Do these values represent the number of cents (-4 to +4 cents)? It almost sounds (to my novice ears) that +4.00 is a full semitone. Any ideas of the scale for Detune? T'hanks!
Great app, thanks so much to the authors, I’m using it live with Midi Guitar 2 to some very impressed listeners. My question, on the subject of “hidden” controls is: “Is there a control/setting that restricts the keyboard range, eg. Only allow notes between C2-C4 to be sounded. I’m wanting to layer a bass guitar synth along with a pad, to accompany my acoustic guitar’s audio BUT I want to avoid the higher notes triggering the bass guitar sounds. I can do this ok in SampleTank but can’t see how to do it in Synth One. Any tips would be very welcome.
Hi Jacob inspiring video and truly wonderful synth - thanks so much - been trying to sync with other drum apps on the iPad using midi link sync but not very good at understanding how to do this without using ableton link. Any help on syncing really appreciated.
Well my ancestry map looks like a paint by numbers over the entire world, mostly UK and Irish but a little Scandinavian, so who knows, I might be a little Swedish. It would be cool to be Swedish or at least visit one day.
Thxxx ! Great Video ! I have a question : i want to synchronize the Arp / Seq with my Digitakt Bpm but i don’t find the clock setting page. There is a way to do it?
As always Brother, one of the best. Although I can't figure out how to make the sequencer work. If I could do that I could figure out why/what it does when you hit the step button at the top and it switches colors and numbers. Yeah, what a great synth. Not much of knob turner but working on it. But with these presets; what more do you need.
The pitch fader normally fades 2 octaves up and down. +0 to +12 notes upward and -0 to -12 downward. But when tapping the box and it gets highlighted you’ve entered an extended octave mode. The fader will now go from +12 to +24 and -12 to -24. Hope that clarifies it. I should have explained it in the video but forgot.
This is great man! We really appreciate your knowledge. I just have a question can you combine sounds or layer them out so you can play 2 separate sounds within the same patch?
Hello Jakob! Great video! I’m grabbing that synth immediately thanks to you! And what is the name of the app on your other iPad? The one that displays the soundwave?
It’s called oscilloscope and it’s made by Onyx apps. However, it lacks any type of internal connectivity (AUv3, AB, Inter app audio, has none of it). It is core audio compatible with hardware though so I’m porting sound into the app with an Behringer UCA-202. . Look around the AppStore, there are other oscilloscope apps with more internal connectivity options. I can’t recommend one because I haven’t found that perfect one yet. It’s why I’m using the same oscilloscope app that I’ve been using for 4 years now. I always use external sound cards to port sound out of one iPad and into another running the app.
Hi, I'm controlling Synth One with Arturia Keystep Pro. I am not able to synchronize the Synth One BPM with the Keystep Pro BPM. Can you give me some guidance?
Hey Jakob, thanks for your videos, i always found them very usefull to do my stuff :D I was just wondering if there is a way to tempo sync the audiokit Synth One with external gear, For example at the beginning of the video you played an arp on the synth one with the po32 playing drums... so in that case, were they tempo synced or you just tapped "play" in the right moment to make them on tempo? Thank you for your attention and your time, bless ya!
The po-32 is not synced. I often do sessions like this. I just set the right tempo inside a synth, if I have Bpm synced modulation, and then I play free hand along a drum machine. If you want to sync external gear like a pocket operator you need a click pulse output. It’s basically an audio signal with clicks in it. You output that into the pocket operator. There are some apps that have that built in. But I’ve also had some good results using metronome apps as a click pulse signal. I’ll make a video about it. Meanwhile there is an older app that syncs to Ableton and MIDI and outputs click pulse. It’s old and needs update and it also makes the audio output useless for anything else. But it works. Yo dude, help me ! When i play some notes in a row the sound gets real noisy or even in arpegiator playing low notes and its like its not working, its a very ugly, crunchy noise, I dont know if it is because I am using an ipad4 in ios10.3. Sorry the poor english
Thank You Jakob👍🏾Thank You Audio Kit👍🏾👍🏾 I have been playing with the synth for the past couple of days. Jakob’s demo filled in some of the blanks for me. It’s free and it is incredible the sound is the most important thing to me and it delivers just check out the Voigt-Kampff Analyzer preset, I have been looking for that particular sound in IOS synths for a long time. Make sure to click on Jakobs links peeps🍄🌕🌴🌈
You know it. I have the 2049 soundtrack playing 24/7 in my car deep base sound system. That’s what I am comparing to. Fat synth. Hans Zimmer. Bravo to you sir.
This is for me one of the best sounding virtual synths. I wish they would make it AU3. Does anyone know if the arpeggiator / sequencer syncs to external midi clock ? I’m not sure if it even sounds better than Thor.
Found it !!! The Synth One is the first synth app that I got !!! It's awesome !!! One thing that puzzles me is squiggly graphic display (oscilloscope) shown here, in the middle of the screen 0:39 ??? I don't see that on my iPad screen? How do I get the oscilloscope to show on my iPad ???
The oscilloscope with show whatever the oscillators output, in that case it was a sound I just tweaked. Looks like something sawtooth based. You’ll have to experiment. 😉

its somehow divine and misterious yet. too good. i also don’t figure out how to be reliable with the built in recording feature, i don’t find my recording and is to aloof. Thanks
Is there a manual for Synth One? I haven't found one and I am looking for small stuff like is there a fast way to initialize a patch? In the Moog apps I think it is done by hitting a button twice and I have already overwritetn my "INIT" patch with something that is already modified. What's the best way to initialize and is there a tutorial/pdf?
Wow a hidden synth options, it’s like playing a hidden object game or room escape 😅 One question please What is this oscillator you use on ipad mini? The one in blue! Love your videos
Thank you! Regarding your question about the oscilloscope. Here’s a video about what it is and why I don’t recommend it: ua-cam.com/video/MVHrp16Z4m0/v-deo.html

Such a cool synth
Great explanation of the app and how to get the most out of it.
Thanks Jakob and to the developers of Synth One God Bless and more power to you.
Your job is so good and the discovery of this new setting page is .... a stroke of genius !!!
Thanks a lot x 1000000. A french musician.
Thank you so much. The app is fascinating but confusing and you are helping to clear up the mystery.
Thanks, Jakob! I just installed Synth One and haven't had a chance to get into it yet, but, thanks to you, I'll be way ahead, now.
Oh my god, your videos are SO professional and polished! very impressed with this one - rushing off to play with secret page
Great Tutorial Jakob! So kool you found the Easter Egg!!! Incredible Synth!!!

Truly Truly this is such a kind thing to do, I would just like to say THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!
Way to go Jakob! 32 presets from you in their Digital D1 Synth app I picked up just now. I can’t wait for your app review❣️
I found the secret pageThis syntheziser is awesome!
Wonderful explanation, the enthusiasm is contagious-superbly done!
Got it and just downloaded last night
Nice find,)

Very cool stuff, Jacob. Love this synth.
I’m late to the party but I LOVE this synth, had to say!
This whole project is da bomb and congrats on getting the “HAQ PANEL” editing page in the app, mate! 😎👍
It’s an amazing thing these devs did! I’m happy to be somewhat part of it all.
Jakob Haq I’d say you’re a big part of it! This was a very informative and inspiring vid! 👍
Great video Jakob! This synth is a beautiful thing for the whole iOS musicians community. Open source rules...
Awesome video and also Synth.
The people who made this are angels
God bless them all
what a great guy, the synth sounds great too. really wanted this, but i am still on ipad 3 because of my trusty alesis idock 2, i need to get up to 64 bit sooner or later though, just wish someone would make another flexible idock (nice to have the stability and angle and the in/outputs) and apple keeps some kind of ipad standard. nice job jakob.
Thanks for this vid Jakob and thanks to all the guys who are working on synth one. It is a truely beautyfull project :-)
You can press on the name at top left corner to hide the hidden page again, making it a one-click operation.
Didnt know it was out!,! Yay!
Excellent, just downloaded following this great tutorial

Awesome to see the scope and you using some hardware, now go make up some probes for your little analog scope!
Also really enjoy the addition of the interviews

It’s called oscilloscope and it’s made by Onyx apps. However, it lacks any type of internal connectivity (AUv3, AB, Inter app audio, has none of it). It is core audio compatible with hardware though so I’m porting sound into the app with an Behringer UCA-202.
Awesome! It seems like a great tool to visualize the audio being generated from apps/hardware synths. I'll certainly look into it. Thanks so much! :)
Makes sense. Thanks so much! : )
Much agreed vary good. love it.
Thanks 4 da info!
Anyone know how to get the Nanokey Studio to send MIDI patch change messages to Audiokit Synth One? I can't figure it out. :(
its somehow divine and misterious yet. too good. i also don’t figure out how to be reliable with the built in recording feature, i don’t find my recording and is to aloof. Thanks
C'est aussi mon cas, je ne trouve pas l'enregistrement que j'ai fait, si quelq'un a la réponse je prends Merci d'avance
Click the About button then click on the name of the app to access the extended settings.
Great Video!!!!!!!!
is the AUv3 released?
is there a way to use this inside of Reason?
Well done! I've been using AudioKit Synth One for almost two years and never knew about this hidden panel.
Did you have to map the knobs on your nanokey, or did it just work straight away?
Peter Vautier I mapped them. If you look closely at 3:54 youll see me actually do it with MIDI learn.
Awesome information your the coolest.
There’s a new/init button in the preset menu view
@@JakobHaq Thanks!
Wow a hidden synth options, it’s like playing a hidden object game or room escape 😅
One question please
What is this oscillator you use on ipad mini?
The one in blue!
Love your videos
Thank you! Regarding your question about the oscilloscope. Here’s a video about what it is and why I don’t recommend it: ua-cam.com/video/MVHrp16Z4m0/v-deo.html
Here’s a video about an oscilloscope I do recommend and why: ua-cam.com/video/yBHTW3G5VVI/v-deo.html
