YOU sir, have helped me TREMENDOUSLY!!! I have been avoiding the 4CM and really any other type of looping configuration. I have always used Line 6 Vetta solid state, built in make your own settings plug and go type BS. I was robbing myself of some truly great tones. I now have a Marshall TSL 100 JCM 2000 with the Line 6 POD HD 500X using the 4CM. I ONLY use the L6 for FX. You have shown me the proper way to make these connections. I wish I ran into you YEARS ago!!! FOR ANY NEW PLAYER OUT THERE PAY ATTENTION TO WHAT GLENN IS TALKING ABOUT!!! YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED!!!
Got my problem solve. Always check cables. I had a bad cable. After changing all the cables, wow ! Works exactly as you showed. Thanks a lot for the time you took to respond to my call. Ben
I have had this same jvm and boss gt-10 for at least 10 years and I had no idea you could change the channel of the amp with the gt-10. This was mind blowing
Thanks a million for this demo. I just bought a used GT-10 and like you, I wanted to chuck this thing out of the window. Now, I think it's one of the best purchases I made. BTW, thats a nice rig you have and great you are a great player. Rock on, man!
Hi Glenn, Jimmy Granier here. (Rusty Nail days) Calling Me to ROCK!!! I need to come out to see you play. You have always been one of my favorite musicians. Gangster is one of my all time favorite bands... So many memories.. I am just discovering these videos. Great job. Very informative. Nice Guitar and amp collection. Great sound.
Thanks, I just picked up a GT-10 this past weekend. This video is a godsend. Totally possible to get my head around routing thanks to you. I'm happy to know that my old Peavey Ultra Plus effects loop isn't parallel. Cheers!
Hi Randy, thank you so much for downloading my patches. You would probably have better luck running into the FX return of your H&K and just using it for clean power. The reason I didn't release my GT-100 4CM is because they were designed to work with this Marshall JVM 205H head so they really wouldn't work right with other amplifiers. That's why I say the FX return would be the best route when using my GT-10 sounds. Thanks again Randy.
Hey man - that little tip about the input setting - BOOM!!! Totally cleaned up my sound. Thank you SO MUCH. I'm doing the 4 cable through a JCM900 - my rhythm sound is complete bypass in the GT10, just marshall, but there was something mucking up the sound. I have Dragonfire pickups that are super hot - and that was it - dialed it back to -10db and it is awesome. You're a great player too. Thanks again!!
What saying apart "Nice demo, Glenn"? Everything is inside of it. Explanations concerning the 4 cable method, and the tones you use are really stunning and awesome. Nice job then, I've learned from this one (and I'll still learn necause we never know enough). Thumbs up man!
Yes absolutely. As far as adding some of the GT-10 preamps, it would depend on your amp whether or not it would sound good but the GT-10 overdrives should sound great.
@Vethuleion No I don't have any hiss at all. Only the normal buzz when using the red channel. Noise gate takes care of that. On the orange it's totally silent when not playing so no noise gate needed.
A parallel FX loop allows some of the signal from the tone stack into the power section. A Serial FX is capable of not allowing any signal from the tone stack and diverts the audio signal from the return jack straight to the power section to give you a 100% wet signal. And most amps that have a serial FX loop have a mix knob that allows you to make it parallel as well.
You're correct about the channels but as far as the EQ. Each channel shares the EQ so on channel one and 2 you have 3 switchable modes, each mode sharing that channel EQ.
Wow...Glenn.....what an awesome rig you've built there. Very impressive. Letting you know how much we appreciate all that you do; a real asset to the guitar community thank you!
That is an awesome setup. One of the reasons why I didn't want to buy this amp is because I thought there was no way to get around using the stock pedal and having to cycle through all the modes on each channel. Thank you for the demo.
Actually the Gr-55 contains the complete GT-10 processor so all of the GT10 sounds are in the GR-55 as well as the synth sounds. It's a very good unit.
Thanks Glen!!! You make the JVM sound great...I just picked up a DSL 50 and a custom made 2x12 folded horn reflex cab w/Celestian Century 100w speakers. I'm a blues/country rock... and this thing rocks!!! It has a very Fendery, open clean.
Hi Rick, yes this is a great amp and plenty loud enough for any application from large auditoriums to small club gig's. The loop is very nice and it has a mix control so it would take your outboard FX nicely. I am currently using it with the Boss GT-100 going right into the FX loop Return of the JVM,
@kennykanowski Use a MIDI cable. For the instructions on how to select the amp channels once you have the MIDI cable connected, go to the Marshall Amps website and watch the demo of the JVM amp.
Killer tones man...Love it..!!!.. Just picked up a jvm410h and 2x12 deep mesa cab w/V30's....still had original tubes..so I retubed it (tungsol el34b) and i still wasnt that impressed "Until" I threw a Zuul, Eq and Delay in the loop and man, look out...WoW..!!!..it came alive..Harmonics jump out at ya and the Tone is sweet..Very Happy camper.. anyway, thanks for sharing..Your rig sounded awesome..hope you still have it.. God Bless..
Hi Andreas, you can download these patches from my website. But i can tell you whats wrong. First make sure the FX level knob on the back of your amp is set at 100%wet. Then in the GT-10 adjust the Send/Return level till they match the sound when plugging straight into your amp.
@93309377 My "Trees" cover song was recorded direct with the Gt-10. you can download those patches from my website if you want to. My Marshall setting can be seen at 16:47. If you pause the video and go full screen with it you should be able to make out the settings. I usually run the gain at about 2 oclock and the EQ pretty flat, maybe a bump in the mids and lower on the bass but that's pretty much it. I am using the Resonator on the GT-10 to to round out the sound on the FX1 slot,
@93309377 Hey Ivan, yes I use the JVM to play some RUSH stuff. I use the amp distortion though, not the GT-10 distortion. I use the green setting on the distortion channel for the Rush music.
@rafabcarvalho Those Send/Return levels on your GT-10 are the key. Try raising the Return level until your tone sounds just like going straight into the amp. They should stay set there all the time. Also make sure your amp FX loop is set to 100% wet.
Marshall JVM 205H manual, page 8, there are two loop. One (the one I am plugged into) is a combination parallel/serial FX loop. When MIX is set to WET all the signal goes through the external loop then it is a series loop, 100% wet as I state in my video that is what you need for the 4CM method. The other FX loop is a power amp insert/series loop. This is a passive loop connected right before the master controls. It is a line level loop so it is recommended to only use high headroom devices.
@LovemyMarshall The HD500 in 4 cable method would be all you need for FX. You could use all of the distortion of that amp. Or if you have the budget go for the TC Electronic G-System.
Right now I am using the GT-100 into the FX return of my Marshall's for stage sound and I run a direct signal to the PA. I am getting some scrumptious tones out of that GT-100. It's really an inspiration. The only thing is I run a Boss EQ in between the amps and the GT because the sound is a little dark & "woofy"coming out out those 4x12 cab's so I have to compensate with that EQ. The direct outs sound lovely through any PA or FRFR or even right into my recording console.
Yes I will try the 4CM with the GT-100 very soon. I never really tried it with my Traynor YCS50 combo but it should work fine. Use your S/R levels on the GT-10 to achieve unity gain. The amp should sounds exactly the same using guitar straight in or going through the GT-10 in 4CM
You can see that at 7:16 When you press the System button you scroll over the the FX Chain icon and them use the big dial to move the highlighted FX to the left or right.
Nice to see you back in action, Glenn. I thought you dropped off the face of the earth. I'd love to see some more HD500 Tips & Tricks. The last one you posted was just a tease. :D
The distortion you are hearing in this video for the Randy Rhodes sound is coming from the amp not the GT. So can you get this sound from the GT alone? probably not.
Are you using the right type of cable? It should be a standard guitar cable. Or try a TRS cable as well. That is basically a stereo to stereo 1/4in. cable
Well the JVM205H for example has 2 channels but each channel has 3 switchable modes and they can be switched via MIDI. If you don't need all that then go for the JCM. You should be able to find both of them on Ebay.
@SiebenRob Rob, it's very easy. . .Just set the Marshall on the channel you want, press the MIDI program button on the Marshall twice and then press the foot switch on the GT-10 you want to engage that setting on the Marshall. The MIDI button on the Marshall will blink and there you have it!!
On that guitar the bridge has a Super 57 with coil splitting and the neck is a 57 Tribute with coil splitting. very versatile guitar. Yes that 1960A cab came with the G12H's but I have another cab with the vintage 30's and it is very smooth. Put both together and it's a great sound. The JCM 2000 has an early Marshall sound. Lots of tube sizzle and fizz. Think Tony Iommi, early Sabbath, or Early Judas Priest or AC/DC Let There be Rock album. That amp sound just like the tones from those guys.
Yup that is a known bug and word is that Boss will have another firmware update this month of June to fix that. Hope they do. They already fixed the first bug that was in the Custom OD model so maybe they will jump on this too. You're not the only one having this problem.
@Jeepjones85 You k ow Ibanez has some good large hollow body jazz guitars. I think they are the "Artcore" series. Also there is Gretch and of course Gibson ES335
Hi,I have a question about 4 cable method for gt 10.- Effects which must be after the Send / Return (delay, reverb) just doesn't working until you put them before S/R.As I understood from your video, those effects should be after S/R. I will be glad to advice! Sincerely, Dennis
Well you can't put it in the GT6 FX loop because that will be used in the 4CM. I would put it between your guitar and the GT6. I've run many dirt pedals that way on my GT-10 and GT-100 and they work well there.
Glen you are plugged into the Marshall Parralle effects loop which includes the knob to adjust how wet the signal is, to the right is the serial loop with no wet knob, you state in your video you need a serial loop for 100 percent wet and Paralel wont work, yet you are using parallel loop connections with your Boss.
Try moving the Delay block on the GT-10 around in the FX chain. Normally it would go after the S/R block but in your case you might try it before. Also (and I guess you know this) make sure the S/R block is ON in the GT-10. If it's off you would hear any FX.
Great video. Will this work with a line 6 pod x3 live as well. I know you use to own one at some point. Will it change the channels on a tsl60 midi switch. Thanks
@jef1rok Yes I had to slightly modify some of my existing patches for this amp. Mainly I'm using the GT-10 as an FX ONLY rig. Taking advantage of the nice distortion that this amp offers.
@xOxsleepyheadxOx You ought to check out the Dimarzio Dp213 Paf Joe Satriani Pickup or the Dimarzio Tone Zone, both are medium output passive pick-ups that offer a wide variety of sounds.
Thanks for the response Glenn! I'm getting it to have the option to run effects in pre AND post. The G Major is very versatile as you know, but if the Pod Hd sounds good with the 4 cable method, then I might just use it as my "go to" effects setup. I just don't want to lose tone on the ENGL. I have the ENGL Z-9 controller, btw.
The 410 is really cool. Having the od2 is especially nice for us metal guys. Right now however I've been playing mostly on od1 orange. Od2 sounds great too.. very good for a more saturated metal sound. I'm so happy with this amp.
Glenn, thanks for advice, I'll try to stabilize pickups with foam. Feedback occurs only when gain knob is past noon, there's also a hum on orange/red channels, but during playtime it's acceptable for high gain amp I think
Glen, hello! Thanks for video, very usefull and understandable. Also a good cause for digging into GT. One thing that didn't work for me: at 7:48 you stress that all the FXs should go after the preamp in the fx chain. But in this case all my FXs didn't work unless I placed them in front of the preamp. Could it be because of the preamp or I did smth wrong in my GT?
It sounds like your S?R block is off in the GT. for you to hear any FX after the preamp is the activate the S/R block in the GT. This is done on a per patch basis.
Glen the Jemini sounds amazing!great overtones, insane harmonics. Brother I tell you if I would have not seen your tutorials I would have sold the GT-10 a long time ago. Thank you
YOU sir, have helped me TREMENDOUSLY!!! I have been avoiding the 4CM and really any other type of looping configuration. Thank you, wish I had the 410, better yet the new JVM JS410. Waiting on some demo's of that one. 2 years in the making and still not ready!!

The marshall amp settings are:
Overdrive channel red setting, bass 10'oclock, mid, 2'oclock, high 2'oclock, presence 12'oclock, Drive 3'oclock.
@SiebenRob There is a setting in the GT-10 MIDI section. I can't recall what it is right now but I think it is "Sync Clock". I have mine set to Auto
@kennykanowski Use a MIDI cable. For the instructions on how to select the amp channels once you have the MIDI cable connected, go to the Marshall Amps website and watch the demo of the JVM amp.
Glenn... once again.. great job on the video... the m5 pitch glide is very interesting...
keep up the good work !
Joe
Yes absolutely.
Thank you so much for making this video! This helped me so much! Great tone and great riffs! Cheers
great video! Thank you. I was interested in the GT100 but it seems the GT10 is more than enough! Also great sound you got there
Killer tones man...Love it..!!!..

@JamiesHereNow No not yet. It soon will be though. I'm in the process of recording an album right now and this is one of the songs.
Hi Andreas, you can download these patches from my website. But i can tell you whats wrong. First make sure the FX level knob on the back of your amp is set at 100%wet. Then in the GT-10 adjust the Send/Return level till they match the sound when plugging straight into your amp.
@villafan95 I use video editing software to sync up the video with the recorded sound.
This is a great video. Couldn't expect anything less from you. I own a JVM 410 and you definitely capture it's essence here. Nice stuff.
@93309377 My "Trees" cover song was recorded direct with the Gt-10. you can download those patches from my website if you want to. My Marshall setting can be seen at 16:47. You have to get the Send & return levels right. May I ask why you are getting the HD400?? Is it to control the G-Major??
@93309377 Hey Ivan, yes I use the JVM to play some RUSH stuff. I use the amp distortion though, not the GT-10 distortion. I use the green setting on the distortion channel for the Rush music.
Thanks very much Glenn, found e'm now.
Great playing by the way.
Thanks again, Bob
Bridge pickup: Super 57 humbucker with push/push coil-splitting

@rafabcarvalho Those Send/Return levels on your GT-10 are the key. Try raising the Return level until your tone sounds just like going straight into the amp. They should stay set there all the time. Also make sure your amp FX loop is set to 100% wet.
Vitali, are you using the MIDI to switch the channels on the Bugera or are you using the GT-10 amp channel switcher??
Wow man. All the work you put into making everything just right really shows!
Marshall JVM 205H manual, page 8, there are two loop. One (the one I am plugged into) is a combination parallel/serial FX loop. That's one of my new originals. Not released yet. It's called "Strut Your Stuff"
Thank you Alex
Nice to see you back in action, Glenn. I thought you dropped off the face of the earth. I'd love to see some more HD500 Tips & Tricks. The last one you posted was just a tease. :D

Are you using the right type of cable? It should be a standard guitar cable. Or try a TRS cable as well. That is basically a stereo to stereo 1/4in. cable
The Mesa MK III has a serial FX loop. You can try the GT-0 Amp CTL jack but it will only control 2 channel amps.
Well the JVM205H for example has 2 channels but each channel has 3 switchable modes and they can be switched via MIDI. If you don't need all that then go for the JCM. You should be able to find both of them on Ebay.
Thanks, I have used the direct out and it sounds very good so unless you have a really good mic and isolation for the cab I'd use the direct out.
@extremevideopro Thanks Glenn, as usual you are very kind answering all our questions.
Sounds absolutely killer Glenn 👍 awesome stuff man.
@LorisEmanuelCianni No the GT-10 did not change my amp dynamics. Not sure about Line6
@rretes12 No I don't think you can control the level of the M5 from the GT-10 you have to set that in the M5 itself on a per patch basis.
I have a couple of Tele's. One of them has the SHR-1 Hotrails Noisless pickups. You might try those. They are silent.
I don't think so because I don't think the X3 Live has the Pitch Glide effect.
Doesn't that amp have a -10db/+4db switch on the FX loop?? Switch it to +4db (which would be pushing the switch in)
Try adjusting your input level of the GT-100, turn it down to about -7 or -8 and see if that changes anything
Yup that is a known bug and word is that Boss will have another firmware update this month of June to fix that. Hope they do. They already fixed the first bug that was in the Custom OD model so maybe they will jump on this too. You're not the only one having this problem.
@jeffmruth I got that from Rondo Music in New York. It's the CNB-PDC 4100G
My GT-10 sends a MIDI signal to change the amp channel. I have that programmed into the GT-10 on a patch by patch basis.
That's awesome Ben
@Jeepjones85 You k ow Ibanez has some good large hollow body jazz guitars. I think they are the "Artcore" series. Also there is Gretch and of course Gibson ES335
Hi,I have a question about 4 cable method for gt 10.- Effects which must be after the Send / Return (delay, reverb) just doesn't working until you put them before S/R.As I understood from your video, those effects should be after S/R. I will be glad to advice! Sincerely, Dennis
Well I am using the Line6 M5 in the video. But the GT-10 can do this just as well. You use the Pedal Bend effect.
Jesse, yes the GT-100 can do moderate to high gain very well. No I haven't seen those new Jacksons
Thanks
+mark aggio Yes it should work. The most important thing is to make the X3 totally transparent when it is disengaged.
its 2018 and that thing still kickin' ass
I know it's hard to see but i use Clear Dunlop Thumb Picks. They are about 1/16thin. thick
Thanks Glenn, Guess that answers my question. Now will consider adding the Gt 100 to my rig. Regards.
Super great video!
Very useful. Soon I'll purchase a new amp with midi, then I'll try to reproduce this with my POD HD 500X.
Thanks again and rock on!
No I don't think so. Only the main 4 pedals not CTL pedals. Already tried it. That would be nice wouldn't it.
Yes, I usually kick that in for a lead and distortion boost.
Yes -10db on the GT and +4db on the JVM and the GT input signal is at -1
Thank you, Yes It's the MIDI Merger, 2in-1out
@jef1rok Yes I had to slightly modify some of my existing patches for this amp. Mainly I'm using the GT-10 as an FX ONLY rig. Taking advantage of the nice distortion that this amp offers.
Almost a Bradshaw rig... really cool! Love your vids...
Hi Ben yes the GT-100 should work well in 4CM with the JVM.
@xOxsleepyheadxOx You ought to check out the
Dimarzio Dp213 Paf Joe Satriani Pickup or the Dimarzio Tone Zone, both are medium output passive pick-ups that offer a wide variety of sounds.
Vitali, are you using the amp channel switch jack on the GT-10 connected to your Bugera??
Thanks for posting that Tutorial Glenn !! Hope it'll transfer to my GP10 !! I'm using it with the New Blues Cube Artist !!
@livio1396 Sure just give it a try. It might work
Glen, hello!
Thank you
@rafabcarvalho Yes I know what is happening. Check your Send/Return levels in the GT-10 Master Pedal/FX section.
