Ive also been wearing them for two years and really like them because the slimness makes them one of the only kind that will fit underneath a women's fit pant since they're cut skinner than men's pants, and they fit in your boots, even if you have full calves! I know a lot of women struggle to find a brace/boot/pant combo that will work since we have fewer options to choose from, and I definitely recommend these! I've got muscular quads and calves, so I wear a size XL. Last year at Zink I hit a tree and twisted my knee, and these ABSOLUTELY saved me from acl/mcl surgery.
Wicked, thanks for the ladies perspective! Something I wouldn’t think about because, well, I’m not a lady. It’s interesting to think about the pant perspective, since tighter pants might make everything more uncomfortable, or help hold everything in place more. Thinking back to wearing the Fly Patrol gear, those pants were a lot more loose. I wonder how that would help, or hinder, long days in the bike with the X-Frames.
Thanks for this comment! I'm coming back from acl/mcl/meniscus surgery and looking at these. I've not had any luck with other brands and fitting. Do these stop before your boots or go into your boots? And what boots do you wear? I'm 5'8" and wear Gaerne Sg12s.
@@SeatTime I can't figure out the sizing at all. Where do you measure for these? I'm 165lbs and 5'11", I usually find myself being a medium in most everything that I wear, however, looking at the sizing chart from Leatt and measuring I'm getting that I'm just between L and XL. I assume I'm doing something wrong. Measuring the knee circumference right in the middle of the knee (over the knee cap) I'm getting 38cm and for the width of the knee I'm getting 12.5 cm.
Very useful information. Thanks. I’m looking fore some knee braces and found this model and husqvarna xframe hybrid. Seems the same model. It’s hard to decide
When you measured your leg and saw the sizes Leatt listed, do you feel it fit pretty true to size? I was right in the middle, ordered medium, but it was just a tad too small.
@@SeatTime when I measured the first time, wasn’t sure if I was a med or just below. I’m about the same build as you mentioned in the video. 5’10 but about 150ish.
Hi, thanks for this video. Very informative! Two questions though: 1. How much protection do these braces provide to the knee cap? Those red plastic inserts do not seem to be as robust as the normal knee guards that I wear. 2. Are these braces comfortable over a long ride?
Glad you liked it! Are they comfortable? For me yes, but it took some time to find the right way to put them on. That's just due to your body and the way you swell and sweat on long rides. I've only had to drop my riding pants to readjust on long days a hand full of times over the past two years. Patella protection. I have crashed a lot in rocks, and I haven't had any patella damage or injury really. I can only think of one time that I hit my patella head on into a rock that it was sore for a few days afterward. Could that have been better with more patella protection? Maybe. Ask more questions if you have them!
Hello sir! First time viewer and not a rider, but salute to the channel and the great detail on your review. I’m only asking your opinion on my following question so that I can shorten my research by ruling this product in order to out for use other than riding. I won’t hold your response as “he told me it would work” 😂😂. I’m a 53 year old who suffered a terrible break to the right tibia and upper tibia plateau. I was able to retain the leg but have not attempted to run on it again since accident 13 years ago. I’m having to go back to the profession I retired from after the break and need to start running again. Giving the nature and areas of the past damage I sought out a product that can protect the knee and shin while running. I know you didn’t mention running in the video but I can only imagine that riding is a little more involved than an old feller like me trotting along at 1.3mph for the next few months. Did you try to run a little while wearing it? Thank you in advance for your reply and sorry for the long winded questions
Welcome to the world of rehab, I have lived through it many times! Though I think wearing a brace, maybe even the Leatt Hybrid, could be helpful as you start your running journey again, I would make sure you focus on strengthening the knees first. Running adds a lot more stress to the lower portion of our body than we think, and jumping back in quickly can cause debilitating pain or re-injury. I would focus first on finding a good Physical Therapist to strengthen the knees. You'll need to let them know you plan on running again, and if they tell you you wont get there, find another PT. If online is your thing, Squat University and The Prehab Guys have a TON of epic content focused on strengthening your knees. Will this brace work for running? Maybe, but I didn't try it there, and I don't think I would. A running brace is made to provide a different type of support for the knee than a dirt bike knee brace. The Leatt brace is trying to protect from side hits, and twisting, which if you're starting out slow running again, shouldn't be an issue. The strengthening exercises for the knee will help you build up the stabilization you need to where a knee brace may not be needed. Sorry for the long winded thoughts, and I hope this was helpful (and not too all over the place).
Never wore knee braces and just a month ago got the fox D30 pro knee protectors, and the pseudo exoskeleton looks so damn cool, Im still not sure if its worth it, even tho I could get them Right now for only 300 euro
Does someone have experience wearing these or similar models for downhill mountainbiking? I have knee problems and want some extra protection on the decend, guess they should work fine
Great Question! I’ve done a ton of DH MTB’ing and I THINK they would work. I would probably plan to wear pants though, to give them some extra holdability (new word). Have you looked into CTI? They have custom options and maybe a tad slimmer. EVS also has a lot of options that cross over into the MTB arena that might be what you’re looking for.
I am exactly in the middle of M and L as well and having a hard time deciding. I'm worried that if I do go for L that it would be the same case with their dual axis which is too large
I would just check in on return policies, or trade in policies, from where you plan to purchase from. That way you can purchase from the retailer that gives you the best option Incase the sizing was off after measuring.
The knee sleeves, after you have the brace snugged up, should fold over the top and bottom of the brace. This typically keeps them from sliding down. Are you folding them over, or are you using extra tall socks under the knee braces?
@@SeatTime I wear small socks and yes I fold them over the top and bottom. I think it's because I have long legs and I can't fold them over the top to the ventilated part of the socks. After 30 minutes, half of the top is already in contact with my skin, which makes that first velcro a little uncomfortable.
@@deegsbeegs924 unfortunately you may need to reach out to Leatt's Customer Service and see if they have any ideas. When I went to the Large braces, I had to double up the inside padding, which is the opposite of your problem.
Hi mate, should the lateral pads be in touch with the knee? Mine's are just fine on thigh and on calf but even with the larger pads still don't touch my knee
I would say if you feel the brace is secure while riding, you're probably good. If it slips and slides while riding, you might want to try to thicken the lateral pads somehow. Maybe sewing some together to get them thicker, etc.
I’m still rocking this same pair, though I did just order a new set of sleeves. I finally hit something hard enough to crack the cup. And they smelled 🤣
Have you given the set of mediums away already? I think they would fit me pretty well I just measured my knee width at 4.25 and the circumference at 13.75. That is on my knee that isn't hurt and swollen currently. I was racing on my (built) minibike 4 days ago and wheelied crooked out of a turn. When I caught myself and the bike with my right leg, my knee twisted bad. I am scheduled for an MRI tomorrow evening. Here's to hoping my MCL and ACL aren't torn!! Also here is the video of it happening. ua-cam.com/video/-Tg1VuXUwR0/v-deo.html&lc=UgxkYrToQ2l4gCHMnBx4AaABAg Fast forward to about a minute from the end. It doesn't look like much but I sure won't be riding without knee braces anymore. Thanks
