    Noticed lily dropped a pretty sizeable screw in the horses space. You want to keep all debris like that away from horses areas. They are very very heavy animals. It wouldnt take much to step on that the wrong way or kick it the right way. You won’t believe the way horses find ways to hurt themselves. Also. Future tip. Horses can cut them selves pretty deep and gnarly and be totally fine(aka no need for vet) keep all wound cleaning care on hand and keep it clean and flushed out daily with proper meds reapplied everyday. And they bleed alottt. Do not always be so alarmed with injuries when they come. Love this horse journey yall are doing great!

    I'm sure you will (and probably have been) getting all the comments from horse people! I've been involved with horses for 30 years, both casually and professionally. It's a running joke if you ask 2 horse people the same question you will get 3 different answers. What you are going through is exactly what the majority of first time horse owners experience (just most of them not for the whole world to see, thank you for being real!). I'm not going to give you horse advice, your trainers seem very knowledgeable and helpful for you. Just wanted to give you some encouragement that it will all work out and thank you for letting Lily experience this, it will only make her a better horsewoman ❤🐴

      right? I remember getting my first horse and went through the same things. its brutal to see all these horse people trying too "help" like give them a break their learning and can't learn all at once, these are the mistakes you learn from to end up a good rider/horse person. you have too make mistakes in order to learn. i don't know why people need too come too the the comments and be their couch. 1 they have a great couch it seems 2 they're taking the right steps and they're not afraid to ask her couch too help.

    Yes, you in your worry for Lily’s safety, let Peaches win. From now on put him on his lunge line and make him exercise until he gets it in his head that Lily is the boss. He cannot be allowed to behave like that and get away with it. Work his backside around and around the circle until he’s exhausted. He’s just taking advantage of Lily’s inexperience. Lily HAS to take control of each situation or he will.

      Although you're right, everybody getting into horses and riding go through not knowing what to do and make mistakes. They have a trainer that seems to be awesome. Peaches got away with that and probably will get away with a lot more things to come. Yes in the long run, lily will have deal with it, it takes time. they have not had this horse for a long time, and have a LOT to learn. lets just say there gonna make little and big mistakes along they way and that's okay. You can't be perfect, and I know from my experience; my mistakes taught me to figure out my problem and seek help and evidently fix them. The only way too learn is too make those mistakes, cause if you didn't make those mistakes, how are you going too do it correctly?😁

    • @lainahiller4146
      @lainahiller4146 5 місяців тому

      Justin, your instinct was correct in telling Lily to dismount. Probably don't want to put your daughter in a "contest" with a 1,000 lb. animal. As someone else pointed out, the horse needs a leader, not a boss. Peaches is saying, "I have a new friend who is very interesting and I want to be with him." Additionally, if someone has to hold a horse in order for the rider to mount, things will probably not go well once mounted. This was borne out in the video when Peaches began to rear up. All that said, it is good that Peaches has another horse. They are now a herd. Guess where horses go for safety and comfort? The herd.

    One thing I discovered having two horses that are bonded, is that I couldn’t ride one without the other having a total fit. My gelding wouldn’t leave for the trails and stubbornly kept going back to his mate. When I took my mare out, the gelding went nuts in his pasture. Hopefully that’s not the case with Peaches. Plus, thankfully you have someone helping guide the way with this whole horse thing. They are more complicated than you think.

They need to do something you ask them to do rather than something they've forced on you before you reward them by turning them out or putting them up. And she's told you that the new pony needs to be worked too. Find out who has the most energy and, lol, wear them out first because if you leave them while you work the easier one they just get more and more excited. You'll figure it out. Good Luck!

    I couldn't help but notice that Lily picked up a long screw that was resting on top of the fence enclosure for the horses and then let it drop to the ground. I sure hope someone else noticed and went back and picked it up? One of our horses stepped on a nail like that and it got up into its hoof and caused serious damage, which resulted in us have to spend several hundred dollars for surgery on the horse not to mention the pain the poor horse had to suffer through.

    Blaze is a cutie. He will be a great brother for Peaches. They will have to figure out the pecking order and who is going to be the alpha. There will be some bickering but they will adjust and become best friends. Blaze really seems to be a calm, cool and collected one so maybe he will help settle Peaches. She needs to make sure she splits her time with them. Give them time. Lily needs to be strong and work through the ups and downs. Dont let the downs scare you and detour you from doing what you love. The horses will learn you are the boss and they will learn to respect you IF you show the dominance and patients. Keep up the good work, it will pay off in the long run. Have fun and enjoy them. 💜💜🐴🐴🐎🐎
    P.S. i would suggest not putting shoes on them. You guys dont have very rocky terrain so they will be fine without them. None of my horses were shod and we rode through a lot of rough and rocky terrain. Leave them natural, its better for them. Just a suggested.

    Peaches hasn’t had time to adjust and figure out who the leader is yet, I don’t know, I hope I’m wrong but buying a pony sight unseen is kinda scary I’m really surprised your trainer didn’t tell you to wait for vet check, and actually meeting this pony first, another horse later was what we did so we had horses we could ride. Also if you’re worried about companionship a Pygmy goat is what our horses bonded to. Ponies sometimes are just like little dogs, they pick up really bad habits because people treat them like cute little toys. Someone else posted earlier to get back to the basics, ground work Always before you mount up on the left side of the horse. They will both definitely need to be exercised daily consistently. Find Lily a mentor who has been around horses for awhile, ask your vet who he’d recommend, best decision we’ve ever made for our daughter, she spent 15 years learning/working with her mentor and I don’t regret one minute or $ spent. Best of luck Lily, don’t let peaches scare you, just a healthy respect and you’ll have a lifetime bond. Also please don’t hook either up to a cart without proper supervision

    Never put a gelding in with a mare. Always put the mare in with the pony or she can/will hurt him. Let them be together but separated by the fence for a couple weeks. If he’s cranking after being so quiet he was probably medicated. Never ever buy an animal sight unseen in the dark!

    1. I just watched a whole show of boys riding dirt bikes to get hamburgers. I've watched them warfaring with paintballs. And watched them cutting down trees, building things etc. I'm never going to do any of those things but I enjoyed watching them do it. Lilly is learning about horses. Her progress is very interesting. She has instincts that she is developing. Many homesteader wanna-bees love horses, too. 2. The horses aren't going to become best friends the minute you put them together. The poor little pony just got upended from one place to another, new everything. And his first hours were in total darkness Poor baby.You can't force this process, just observe. Maybe let Lilly go with her instincts. She is very interesting but she is all new to this, too.

  • @Rabbiton
    @Rabbiton 6 місяців тому +1

    I recommend reading books like Monty Roberts, on natural horsemanship. It is not about 'wearing the horse out' before you hop on him, instead, Lili needs to establish a bond with him where she is higher up in the herd than him, this involves a lot of groundwork, getting him to move his feet away from her when asked, yielding when asked, lots of little 'games' you play with a 'carrot stick' and other aides that will assist with this teaching. I would never hop on the back of a horse if it isn't fully listening and engaging or you risk being thrown off or injured. If the horse doesn't 100% respect your space and listen on the ground, they will be ten times worse when you are on their back. Go back to basics, don't ride for a while and slowly build back up to doing lots of groundwork - which is not lunging in circles, it is so much more than that. There is heaps of info online about this stuff. Also, don't take a horse behaving like this away from his mate, bring the 2nd horse with you when training, otherwise, they will be distracted and want to return to their horsey friend. Horses can be dangerous and you can make them have life long habits if you get this wrong, so it is quite serious for the animals welfare as well.

    I had several horses through the years. Don't really know that you needed a buddy for Peaches. I have noticed Lilly giving Peaches treats. I know her intentions, but animals get addicted to this. Looks like he is barn or maybe buddy sour, and maybe spoiled. Myself, I would put him on hay only for a week. This will get rid of all that excess energy. He may not be a beginners' horse. Be careful. Be safe.
    Enjoy your videos.

    When I saw your pork chop meal it reminded me of a recipe that I have, It's called Saffron Rice and pork chops. You cook up your pork chops and remove them from the skillet. Using the drippings, add in some minced onion and minced garlic (or onion and garlic powder). Add in a package of saffron rice until it has absorbed some of the drippings. Add in 2 cups of beef broth and cook until the rice is tender. Mix in 8 oz of sour cream and cook until sour cream has warmed up. place the pork chops back in the skillet to warm them back up and then serve.

    Love your ponies Lily..
    Hope you didn't just drop that long screw in your ponies stall area.. Loose Screws & nails can be dangerous for horses and animals causing injury in their hoof soles if stepped on, especially in deep bedding situation.. Prayers for safety and care while you love on your new passionate venture! Love all your sweet enthusiasm with Life on your farm with your family!

    I think they need a companion pony for the pony so that when Peaches is out the pony has a friend. It’s simple horse math! (Just kidding). I love how this family supports each other!

    If Peaches figures out that if she bucks & the rider gets off, she will continue to misbehave. Just like a child that isn’t corrected. A bigger rider may need to ride Peaches every now and then and remind her that she will be ridden. Not being mean, but someone that doesn’t come off very easily. Sweet Lilly probably will get thrown off at some point. Every rider I’ve known has been thrown off at some point.

    Peaches may need round pen work or lunged before riding? I new a guy who had a horse that would buck every time unless he worked him in the round pen for a few minutes first.

    The two will figure out who is boss totally normal just relax, I have had horses for years it’s always been this way when introducing them. It’s always the way they figure it out,at one time had 12 together there’s always a boss but spreading out hay so they have their own, but one will always want to taste it first. When feeding grains and not working hard every day he’s going to have a lot of energy to burn off. Check with your trainer and friends if they are feeding that much . We only feed hay when not working out hard and minerals when grazing and salt block during the winter hopefully this helps

    It really is time for Lilly and her horses to have center stage. She is an awesome child and her interests need to be respected and cared about. I really enjoy seeing your channel with Lilly and family stuff instead of constantly being taught something. I don’t think I would have purchased the pony under the circumstances those people put you in. Maybe going back and talking to them more, maybe even looking else where. Seemed sketchy.

    You can grow a lot of food & all your meat, milk & eggs but you need the grocery store. Not in times of food shortages but in good times. Just like the chocolate, bananas, treats for kids & paper products.

    Now that you guys have the pony for peaches, peaches might ride better if they aren't seperated. So, maybe someone could walk the pony while lily rides peaches, that way they dont feel like they are too seperated and uneasy.

    Instead of buying processed chocolate candy, just buy the baker chocolate so you can add sweeteners like honey, etc... yourself. Plus, you can avoid all the waxes and preservatives. Trust me, home made fudge is MILES better than the store bought stuff. Buy dried dates and boil those down to make a date syrup. LOVELY stuff. You have milk so make your own caramel. Plant sugar beets this summer to make your own sweetener as well. Sugar cane can also be grown in your climate if you protect the roots with a pile of mulch and plant them on the south side of a wall to shelter from direct northern cold.
