There's a mid-tier tome you can unlock pretty quickly that zombifies your entire population, granting them undeath and all that comes with it. If you wanna play the lich king you absolutely can.
This game has a lot of roleplaying potential. I started my first faction based on one of my D&D setting empires who is ruled by an ancient red dragon in human guise. She considers her empire as her hoard and will protect it and fight to expand it. Since the empire is heavily magic focused, I did a lot of traits and affinities towards magic (specifically Arcane Focused (+15% magic damage), Dark (for the Cull the Weak), Gifted Casters and Runesmiths (for the cheaper enchantments for mass army enchanting). And I am LOVING this playthrough! I also wanted to make a vampire faction though and hence why I'm here xD
Necro druid actually sounds pretty cool and seems pretty doable. The Tome of Cycles stuff would play with necromancy very well. The Druid of Cycles has some real nice flavor to it. I just recently got to tier 3 tomes with my high elf druid run and it's been great.
