Im very hard headed an never want to ask someone how to learn to fly. I bought this palne an tought myself how to fly an now im a pretty good pilot with 7 new planes. The M-7 maule is my favorite of all mine. But have to agree this is absolutely the #1 beginner plane an i still fly it alot. They knocked it out of the park with tjis plane an when im down an out from a crash this is always the go to an build my confidence back.
I bought a Mini apprentice S in 2016, RTF. Life happened, Still in the shipping box. I really need to get it in the air. Glad to see your family is growing😊✌🏻❤️
AWESOME Level flying ABBY!! You're NO Apprentice in the SKY!! I LIKE the videos on cloudy days; I can see how the plane is performing better on this tiny screen!! Nate, you are FANTASTICALLY quite!! GREAT SHOW tonight Abby, now rest!! 💟👍😘
I think it would help if you'd have someone trim it out for you even in safe mode. For take off in safe, point it into the wind, push the throttle for 3/4, and it will take off itself. For landing, line up with the runway cut the throttle to about 1/4, and it will basically land itself. It may not be pretty, but it will take off and land itself with very little assistance in safe mode.
I started with the Aeroscout and loved it. It took quite a beating before death spiraling in a bad tip stall 100% my fault. These days I'd recommend maybe the UMX Timber X as a great beginner plane. It has safe select and AS3X, is easy to program in the radio, can fly slow or fast, is pretty durable and can still be trimmed to do crazy 3D stunts as your skills improve. Flaperons and spoilers can be enabled, too. It can land on grass or pavement and even has floats available. It also flies well in wind and is very forgiving. It just offers a lot of bang for the buck at half the price of the Apprentice. It's also small enough you can chuck it in the back seat and don't need an SUV to drive it to the field, but big enough that you won't lose orientation in the sky. Lots of reasons to love the Timber X and very few reasons not to recommend it as a great first plane.
The UMX Timber or the TT would be good for the beginner if either were offered in RTF. Think I'd always recommend an RTF over a BNF to a beginner. Spending big bucks on a TX would be a leap of faith.
@@BillKisel Ah, excellent point, Bill. In that case, I would recommend an Eachine warbird, probably the P-51. They are cheap, fun to fly, hard to kill and would make a great Christmas present for any kid who dreams of flying. Hell, get one for dad too and they can dog fight at the local park.
I agree love the scale look of the apprentice and when I muster enough courage to fly the Aeroscout I hope I don’t destroy it immediately although it does seem to be built to be tough as nails 💅. #stayepic
Hey Abby and Nate! I just watched a couple of your old videos on glow planes and the "Sig Somethin Xtra" Video. I think it would be cool to feature some engine planes on a video just for the nostalgic memories of older flying years ago! I still fly a mix of glow and Electric planes. My fastest and most Prized plane is the SIG KING KOBRA that has a OS 65 AS MAX in it. I have it painted Air force and re white and blue. I think it would be cool to find a plane similar or exactly like the King Kobra and make a video telling us what you guys think! You guys are one of my favorite RC Channels and Id love to hear Your opinion! They make 3 versions of the KING KOBRA its the "Kobra", "Kougar", And "King Kobra". They are 3 different planes and are very similar it would be amazing to see one of these on the channel! Keep up the Content!!!
RCSaylors, you could do some trimming, plus the rubber band on wings should not be crossed if you are a brginner. The rule of thumd is two per pound plus one set. So a one pound Airplane would have 4 bands on the model. This has saved me a wing or two over the years, bolted on wings are not very forgiving.
Solid Apprentice trainer. Try the old School Cox EZ Bee Sport, that was my trainer in the 1970s. The old 2CH 0.49 Engine airplanes seem to be coming back in fashion !
Any plane requiring rubber bands to hold the wings on would get tossed right off any list I made...same goes for a bottom loading battery. I never flew an aeroscout, but sign me up for the Bigfoot as best beginner plane.
Based on what I'm seeing at the club field, and talking to people who own them, the HobbyZone Aeroscout may soon knock the Apprentice out of first place. That little Aeroscout is an amazingly capable plane, and I'm seeing many experienced pilots picking one up, because it spans sedate trainer flying right up to some pretty impressive aerobatic capabilities.
Nice video. Haha, I have the earlier version of this amazing beginner plane "Apprentice S" And in one of my short video, it easily landed on lake side within a very limited landing space 🤭
This was my first plane, but in red. I thought I would try to be fancy and tried to fly it upside down at the top of a loop. I nose dived it into the ground.
This was my first plane and I loved it but I started out right away with floats. I can't wait for winter flying ill be flying this and my cub that will be outfitted with skiis. I live on a lake so that is why I chose a sea plane first
i do also have one and i love it . and its my first plane so i flew on safe for 2 flights the puched my self to turn it of sens then i flown without 😄 havent flown now in winter so i miss it
The AeroScout beats the Apperntice S2, but the Apprentice STS is yet another and better plane, but is also bigger and needs a bigger field, but I would recommend the AeroScout as a 1st plane and the Apprentice STS as a second plane and then the 1.1m T-28 as a third plane (all from Horizon, all BNF).

Nice video as always :-) I'm just learning to fly on the sim and am looking at this plane and the bigger Apprentice STS. Do you have any other planes that you would suggest to look at as a first plane next to the Aeroscout that you talk about ?
bit.ly/3v5OysM If you are looking for something more scale than the Aeroscout, I highly recommend this plane over the Apprentice. That plane is just starting to get dated these days. Happy Flying and please ask if you have questions! If we don’t reply, just post as a new comment. Makes it easier to find on our YT app 👍😁😎⚓️
The Aeroscout has a design flaw with exteme weakness in the nose wheel assembly. After four repairs, I junked the plane and scrounged the parts for future repairs etc
I love the video! Been watching for close to a decade now. I started recording myself flying but a GoPro3+ strapped to the head still looks awful compared to every flying video I see. Any idea how I can record by myself? I don't have anyone to record with me. Way to go, Abby!
so you say that the apprentice isn't the best, that its ok. hmmm so I'm still looking to buy my first plane. should I do a virtual flight simulator first? this plane or the aeroscout or is there a different beginner plane to buy, suggestions please.
🤔 I wish I could get my woman into flying planes. She has gotten into crawling a little. Still gives me that look when I buy a new rig though 😬 12 years in and she puts up with me so far 😂 can’t wait to see the look on her face when I buy a real bird! 😉
I definitely recommend NOT to rely on Safe to fly. Only use it to save your plane if you start to lose it. It will in bed bad habits. Always better off flying on a Sim and the adjust expo to get that connected locked in feel between you and your plane when flying the real deal.
We know a lot of people that wouldn’t fly at all if not for SAFE. Not everyone wants to be a 3D pilot, but still wants to enjoy this wonderful hobby 😁⚓️ It’s nice to hear different opinions though. Thanks for watching!
Yeah I had my first flight recently and realized that safe was making it harder for me if anything. I couldn't make turns quick enough, putting me into some close calls. Turned safe off and it just gave me more control, so I could avoid close calls altogether. I did about 4-5 hours of simulator first and it really helped
Did you encounter with the nose being a little “too happy”? I mean if you throttle it up to full it tends to elvevate the nose up. I have had to weight my front to keep the nose down. Any tips would be great. The trim is at full
If this plane isn't one of the best, then which one is? People jump on the aeroscout bandwagon but won't admit the thing is horribly noisy. The aeroscout build quality is terrible. I don't want a plane that looks and feels like someone cut it out of the same box it came in. Also people tend to mention oh with the aeroscout theres no prop in the front to break in the crash, yet from what im seeing the front nose and wheel of the aeroscout is a weak point regardless, if it crashes, prop in front or not the aeroscout stull needs a repair no matter what. At leaset the apprentice has a plastic fairing behind the prop and not just cheap styro foam. People, do the research for yourself. Just because some youtubers say something about an item doesn't always mean they know what they are talking about, same goes for the hobby shops. Not everyone has the answers just because they are just there, or are on youtube!!
You are right, but we’ve been doing this almost daily for 10 years straight and interact with people and friends in the hobby daily! You’ve gotta take what anyone says with a grain of salt and do your own research always, but also need to understand the weight of the words someone is saying. Some have way more weight than others! Pilot Ryan > some random kid making minimum wage at a hobby shop who just doesn’t care at all. 💯⚓️
No clue about Germany. Sorry my friend! It’s just a piece of foam, so I’d be surprised if you couldn’t. However I can’t speak for any location other than my own. Happy Flying 👍😁😎⚓️
Growin a baby! Da Dar 😁. The rubber bands holding the wings to fuselage always turned me off the design. I guess that's the way they did the wings in the O.G. days haven't actually heard of any failures, have you guys??
It’s actually better to secure a wing like this to the fuse with rubber bands than screws. In the event of a mishap the rubber band will either break off or absorb a lot of impact force saving the wing in most cases.
Just gotta make sure your rubber bands are in good shape and not dry rotting or have a small cut in them. They could snap mid air, although we’ve never witnessed that happening. I have however forgotten said rubber bands on many occasions and had to go back home to get them before flying 😢 I are human. 🤖 🏃♂️ ⚓️
