Hey Steve. I was out of flying plains to for about 9 years. 2 years ago I bought the Carbon Cub. It is an amazing Aircraft to fly. So many features. I still get an adrenaline rush every time I fly it. Thanks for the great video.
I learned to fly with the Carbon Cub and I bought the Aeroscout for the kids. In my opinion the Aeroscout is the better first plane. The Cub is a good second plane to learn a bit more advanced flying with.

One more thing capt.. I practiced on a flight simulator ( horizon hobby) made the transition with no problems!! Flying quads (without gps ability)for me really didn’t make the transition to fixed wing any easier…still, your right fixed wing is challenging and addictive…?sold all my quads( drones),and don’t regret it…
Thank you Steve for helping me get back into RC flying. When I was young, all we had was balsa wood planes. Typically, it took months to build one and when you crashed it on it's first flight, it kind of discouraged you from continuing (as it did for me). However, this video helped me decide to get back into the game. These foam planes seem somewhat more repairable than the old balsa wood ones, plus this SAFE technology will ease the learning pain. I bought the Carbon Cub S2 RTF and it's a great plane. However, no matter what I do, I cannot get the DXS controller and WS2000 to coordinate correctly with Real Time Flight Controller. I seems there may be something wrong as I cannot program either the throttle or rudder...doesn't let me. Yet the controller works perfectly with the plane. So after about 15 hours of experimentation with the software, I said the hell with it and decided to get another controller for use not only with the simulator but also with other planes I plan to buy. I splurged and bought the NX8 which might be overkill but will give me programming ability for anything else I may buy in the future. Besides, compared to my three DJI drones this hobby is VERY cheap..... So I'm going to take my time and learn the NX controller as it is chock full of options, most of which at the moment mean nothing to me. But looking forward to learning this new technology. Once again thanks and hope to see you one day out on the field (I too live in Ottawa) Best wishes
The NX series of controllers are great! You can download the model of your plane direct to the controller which then means you only need to do the simple task of binding. Once you get the hang of the radio, we’ll, every plane is the same and you can copy one model to the next.
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 Yes, that has great appeal to me. Even at my age of 78, I love all this new technology and want every opportunity to learn it. I have it on my boat, my Gold Wing motorcycle and in my cars, so I willingly embrace it on these RC planes. I used to think DJI drones were expensive but when you think about the huge investment in software engineering that goes into one of these drones, they are really not expensive, as you are getting a load of technology for a reasonable price. Nothing is free and DJI drones are amazing for the money.... I am REALLY looking forward to getting out to fly but want to spend a load of time on Flight Simulator once I can get it connected to a transmitter. Great fun on a long cold winter day.... Cheers !!
So i fly paramotors currently and love avation, so naturally I picked airplanes over trucks. I haven't flown yet and just ordered an aeroscout s2 1.1m. Is either of them safe to fly as a new pilot? Which one do you feel is better to learn? I've done some phone sim, but none on a controller/transmitter. What do you think? Aeroscout for the prop location? Forgot to mention I got a ranger 1220mm rtf which one would you learn on or fly first?
I've been promoting you here in NC since you started your channel. Your the best...they removed DJI from my country USA but I still love my drone. Mini 2...keep it up cap!
Great video! My wife got me the Carbon Cub s2 for Christmas LAST YEAR! I have been too afraid to fly it. Your video has given me a ton of confidence. Thanks!
One thing to mention, the push/pull prop differences between cub and scout. Probably not an issue as far as beginner flight control is concerned, but the push prop (aeroscout) survives crashes better....
I love this channel I think it so cool your doing planes now I started with helicopters and this year I started flying planes I like the e-flight and spektrum I have turbo timber evolution, night timber x, Cessna 150t 2.1 m , twin otter and love them all. I think the ready to fly carbon cub would be perfect for my friends first plane
It depends on your country and stock. They are still available. You can also check out my review of the FMS RANGER RTF kit (beautiful starter plane) or the FMS SUPER EZ plane. Search for these on UA-cam but place CAPTAIN DRONE at the start of your search.
Just bought a cub, my first one. I've never flown before. Looking forward to flying it. I live in the country so I have room at my house to fly. Great video thanks.
These were my first two RC planes too! Great planes to learn on. Taught myself as well. I have now added the RV-7 to my hanger. Of course I am now thinking of plane #4. Maybe a glider?
I did the same thing last year started with a small push prop and then decided it was time for an upgrade and got the smaller version of the aero Scout you mentioned to stay away from. Man what a piece of crud... It was ok except it wouldn't climb I brought it back to the hobby shop and explained my problem. It was like the servo maxed out and wouldn't let it climb it would just barely take off and nose dive as soon as as you tried to level off. The guy at the hobby store said he was sure he could fix it he just had to fly it first to diagnose even though I had told him. Also he insisted on doing it in his parking lot where I had tried it over grass incase something went wrong. Needless to say it was a catastrophic crash when he just assured me he could fly anything. After he crashed it he proceeded to say it should be fine and wouldn't give me a refund. Worst and last experience I've had at his store also to rub salt in the wound Hobby zone wouldn't give me a refund either. They said because he smashed it how were the supposed to know it was a design or manufacturing flaw. Even though like I said everything else worked fine. It left such a bad taste in my mouth I've only flown my old volantex ranger which went down over blackberry patch when a quick summer gale blew in. I didn't get it out for a few days with machete but some mice had eaten my wing. Sorry for the rambling complaint I just wondered why you said to stay away from the smaller one.
I dont know about a large plane as some ones first plane, way more damage when it ends up plowing into someone or something. Maybe the UMX series is a little better suited to absolute beginners.
Just found your channel. This video was a home run!! Editing/video/narration/music..very nice!! Thanks for taking time out of your day to make this video! Awesome!!
That aeroscout is a rebadged esky eagles with added electronics for stability, very easy and docile plane to fly, i have one. The carbon cub is also very easy to fly, saw a friend in the hobby land that like a helicopter 😄
This was such a good video. I have both of these planes; however, I have only flown the Aeroscout. I'm taking the grandkids to a place where we will have a ton of space to take the Carbon Cub S2 on it's maiden voyage. It has the geo fence and landing assist features. Can't wait to try it out.
Hey captain, I have a question for you so I just got a literadio pro 3 with a cc2500 chip 4in1 could I fly planes off of that? Or is there a module that I could buy for that radio that would let me fly planes?
Yes you can use it, but only if you place a compatible receiver in the plane. You will really want to eventually get a pro radio so you can add Expo and Dual Rates to your joysticks.
I have the carbon cub 1.5 I think it’s called, I think it’s an earlier version than that one. After not flying for a decade it was recommended to me. With the auto take off and landing it’s very easy to fly. The only thing to remember is if you’re going to use the auto landing, make sure that you take off with space behind it when you take off, as it will turn around and make a landing lining up with your takeoff point. I didn’t give it the room behind and as it was lining up it’s landing it started to come down right in line with a tree.realised too late and it crashed into the tree lol. No major damage luckily, a bit of a crushed nose and landing gear that had to be reattached.
Another great RC plane video !!! I rebooted my hobby with a plane that's very similar to the AeroScout ... the E-sky Eagles. Any beginner should be able to fly that with relative easy; even without any stabilizer on board. It's a super stable plane. Thanks for posting more plane videos Steve.
Excellent instructional video. We have a place called hobby park that has a lot of history in our area. You will see 10 planes to every 1 drone flying there. My problem is I still have drones that I haven’t even flown yet. But you sure have got me wanting to try a plane. Thanks Captain
I was given a futaba t14sg (used) for my birthday do you know if l can bind to the eachine warbirds ? Iam new to the hobby . Two years in and I'm really having hard time understanding
"Eachine" is a re-brand label used by Banggood for products sold through their store - they could come from anywhere. Same as here - that Aeroscout is a re-branded Chinese plane fitted with a Spektrum receiver. (The Esky Eagle - It is also an excellent "beginner" plane.) So to answer your question - No, not if you mean the Volantex V761 re-branded 400mm Mini Warbirds series sold under the Eachine label. (Wrong protocol.)
Thx for all the vids you are doing for us. My wife said, this guy most be nice to be friend with. I told her you where in the NCR, we never know, we might see him in Ottawa one day. 😁 I used to be try to pilot, RC helicopter, I then switch to an RC plane (no much success) and then switch to drones for couple of years before selling all of them. Because of you, we are planing to purchase a drone next spring. In the mean time, I'm trying to convince my minister of finances (my wife) to allow me to purchase a AEROSCOUT (your fault again) with skies since in NCR, there is a lot more snow than down south. Do you happen to know where to purchase skies for the AEROSCOUT? Are you aware, your first amazon link point to a HBZ Hobbyzone Sport Cub S RTF not the AEROSCOUT (RTF)?
Not out of the box. All RC planes that are large and designed for FPV require that you supply the camera, video transmitter and FPV Goggles. I recently showed exactly this when I reviewed the new RUNCAM WASP camera a short while ago.
It sounds like you did not buy the RTF kit (Ready To Fly). I say this because ONLY the RTF kit has a setting that when you turn the plane using the right joystick it also adds elevator to lift the nose. If a planes nose goes down when turning it usually means the plane is not moving forward fast enough or the pilot or the controls are adding the incorrect elevator.
Hello, I don't get the chance to watch like I want but I saw these and had to watch. These things are huge but really nice. I really enjoyed this video. Thank you for the share.
I’m wanting to get into the hobby and I REALLY want the Carbon Cub S2. I went to my local RC airfield club and they all pretty much said to go with the aeroscout. I honestly have no love for the aeroscout and struggle to be excited about it. Can you suggest one over the other. I know what my local club says.
The AEROSCOUT was my first plane in the RC plane hobby. It is so incredibly easy to fly, especially when SAFE is engaged, which causes you to build confidence & take chances turning it on and off until you feel comfortable. The reason everyone picks the AEROSCOUT is because the pro is not on the nose and it has tricycle landing gear. Those are two items that will ensure a perfect landing everytime. The CARBON CUB is a high wing plane and all high wing planes are easy to fly. With the carbon cub you just have to be careful not to lose altitude in turns and to keep the nose up on landings. It is very easy to fly as well but the Aeroscout is easier. Lots of people start with the CARBON CUB and are successful. The CARBON CUB also has SAFE to make it extremely helpful for beginners especially if flying on a day with some wind.
Oh, one last thing… if at all possible get the RTF version of either plane. But you don’t need the RTF version if you know someone in the RC Plane hobby that can help you. if you know someone that can set up a radio for you, then get yourself a Spektrum DX6 or NX6 radio and have someone set everything up, including dual rates, and then fly in low rates on a day with no wind.
I learned FPV before planes. Learning LOS for planes was very difficult for me. Thankfully Spectrum has stabilization. Lmao But a whole different flight experience. Planes are more quite and peaceful. You can fly a plane anywhere, and no one will complain. And you can do 200+ MPH and no one cares. Then there is 3D flying. Its a rush! Plus, when you do crash, its just gluing some foam back together. Rarely do you replace electronics, so it ends up being much cheaper then FPV.
When I fly with gyro off I make certain I am high enough up so that is something goes wrong I can switch the gyro back on. All RC planes can survive every crash if you have enough glue.
Ironic you made this video. Early last summer I started flying the Eachine Warbirds series. I also quickly caught the RC plane bug. The key to RC planes is just getting started and gaining confidence. I'm moving through the larger and more challenging planes. It's a lot cheaper than the drones we fly! Drones are more of a tool of work and the RC planes are pure fun and enjoyment. You may have to change your name from Captain Drone to Captain RC. 😎
Planes are indeed fun and are a very social hobby like the FPV drone hobby. GPS Camera GPS drones, like DJI & Autel fit into more of a working hobby as you mentioned
I have the WOWRC Arrows Hobby RC Plane BGFT 1300mm 6 Channel Remote Control Airplane RTF and I don't really understand any of the buttons on the controller u think u could help I can't fly it right know since the propeller broke I got 4 more on the way but I'd like to understand the remote before I fly again
Steve, great video as always. Looking into coming from drones into the RC plane world. Torn between the Carbon Cub, Apprentice S2 or the AeroScout for my first plane. Any thoughts?
For a very first RC plane that will put a smile on your face... The AEROSCOUT 1.1 meter in the Ready To Fly kit. It flies so nice that in my area the pilots eventually put FPV cameras on them and fly them that way. Of course, only do that after you get really good and confident.
RTF means READY TO FLY. So that means you get the plane, receiver, transmitter, battery, battery charger. So buy the RTF version of an RC plane you like.

Hi Steve....As always a good video. My last plane was a midwest giant sweet and low stick. Been 30 some years since I flew a plane. I sure been eyeballing that E-flite Cirrus SR22T........Have a great week.
In a bank turn, you have to use aileron to a varying degree...first roll the plane then let the stick go back to center, then pull back on the elevator stick...to go straight again, you roll out in the opposite direction

Please tell me How far these planes can fly? Can you do1:400/1:200 Die-cast model airplane reviews?
Excellent Video. Very Nice RC Planes! Thank You Steve.
I like the colors always great information
Great video and tutorial Steve 👍👍
Thanks 👍
Good review and tutorial Steve.
Thanks 👍
Sorry i forgot to say i aready have a ranger 1220mm rtf and just ordered an aeroscout s2 1.1m. Which one would you start with?
Aeroscout for sure
Capt.. I have the Carbon Cub mini apprentice s, and just got the Areoscout!!! 👍🏼
Good choice!
Cap, according to the horizon hobby website the iX 12 is still available, at least in the US.
Unfortunately it is long discontinued (look closer on the web page)
There's so much to learn and worse yet to buy! This is way more complicated than my Ground vehicles. Excited to get started tho
Thx for all the vids you are doing for us. My wife said, this guy most be nice to be friend with. I told her you where in the NCR, we never know, we might see him in Ottawa one day. 😁
I used to be try to pilot, RC helicopter, I then switch to an RC plane (no much success) and then switch to drones for couple of years before selling all of them.
You can the Du-Bro skies at Great Hobbies. I’ll check the links, thanks.
Since they do not make the Carbon Cub S2, what beginner plane would you suggest? It would be my first RC plane. Thanx...
Keep looking. The Carbon Cub is still being made and sold.
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 Thanx, Steve...
Best video I've seen yet
Thanks!
this is something me and my grandpa are gonna do together. thanks for the video great as always!
Hope you enjoy
the floats work good for the snow too.
Yes, very much
Steve - is there a larger-scale plane like these that include an FPV camera? Something connectable to DJI goggles? Thanks
Not out of the box. All RC planes that are large and designed for FPV require that you supply the camera, video transmitter and FPV Goggles. I recently showed exactly this when I reviewed the new RUNCAM WASP camera a short while ago.
Nice video. You never mentioned SAFE technology. Do these planes have that and do you use it ?
They both have a STABILITY GYRO, which under one brand name is known as SAFE. Both of these planes have SAFE.
I like the little red N1790...kinda looks like the Red Baron...😁
Those of us who flew single stick need a way back in.
Another great one Cap. Keep them coming
I'm new to the hobby. I got a Aero Scout and when I try to turn the plane nose dives. I broke mine bad on my forth try. It broke in half. :(
It sounds like you did not buy the RTF kit (Ready To Fly). I say this because ONLY the RTF kit has a setting that when you turn the plane using the right joystick it also adds elevator to lift the nose. If a planes nose goes down when turning it usually means the plane is not moving forward fast enough or the pilot or the controls are adding the incorrect elevator.
0:37 can I do the same thing, but with the Eachine E120 Helicopter?
well done chamkuli... you are the real kingkoda..
do they have a return home button? hahahaha.
Hello, I don't get the chance to watch like I want but I saw these and had to watch. These things are huge but really nice. I really enjoyed this video. Thank you for the share.
Thanks for watching!
Very very true
If anyone wants a different rc plane (large) for beginners it could be the arrows trekker rtf or super ez rtf And the 1300mm pa 18 bush plane!
I like Carbon Cub but will it be easy to fly with the gyro switched off and will it survive a potential crash?
When I fly with gyro off I make certain I am high enough up so that is something goes wrong I can switch the gyro back on. All RC planes can survive every crash if you have enough glue.
Oh ya here it is thanks Steve carbon cub s2 is the plane am getting pricey tho RTF have to buy the battery and charger separate from Amazon so
Can’t wait to lift off with my Aeroscout! Great video tutorial as always! #stayepic
Have fun!
Great video. I bought the Carbon Cub as a beginner and it's brilliant. Installing flaps made a big difference and was fun to do
Great plane & even better with flaps for certain
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 I’d also highly recommend a flight sim. Far cheaper than a big crash and a chance to refine your skills on all aircrafts
Sorry, I have never heard of such a plane. If it came with a transmitter, I have no idea how it is setup.
Will that glue work on a broken propeller
You can’t repair a broken prop, You have to replace it.
Cool big RC-Planes ❤ Thank you very much. Nice Video.
Do you think the Arrows Husky would be an ok first plane?
It is rather large and I didn’t notice any beginner features
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 Oh, I thought it had safe mode? thanks for the reply
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 you are the best, thank you!
Great video, Captain. Thank-you for the information. I am definitely interested.. Rtf kits are a lot cheaper than I thought they would be.
Really nice plane's
Hey Captain nice video. I've been flying the Aeroscout for a year now, it is a nice flyer capable of many stunts.
Cool, thanks
does it come with a charger or is it seperate?
RTF means READY TO FLY. So that means you get the plane, receiver, transmitter, battery, battery charger. So buy the RTF version of an RC plane you like.
Hi Steve as you know i bought the carbon cub rtf package. Question what other planes can i buy that the radio that came with the carbon cub? Do you know
I think a SPEKTRUM radio came with it, correct? If so then any EFLITE BNF RC Plane (without flaps) would work.
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 that would be nice . But carbon cub i got is from hobby zone. And yes its a spektrum DXs
@@jeffberry754So Horizon Hobby owns eFlite, Hobby Zone and about 10 more brand names, thus everything is SPEKTRUM.
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 good so my spektrum DXs can run other planes ? I would like that. Can you do a video on what the spektrum DXs radio can fly a few planes ppl might like that
I use my aeroscout for FPV flying.
I just purchased the carbon cub after watching this video! It’s a very nice and fun plane to fly especially for a beginner
Excellent!
Good evening captain always great video nice review
Thank you kindly
God I'm getting into drones thanks to you capt ! Now rc planes Oh no! I may have some explaining to do to her indoors, Not sure flowers will be enough thanks capt.
Once you get into RC Planes, the addiction begins :-)
can I bind these to a 4 in 1 module to my zorro?
Only if you put a compatible receiver in the plane.
Does the controller screen let you know what percentage of throttle you are using ?
Depends on which controller you are talking about
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 I’m new to the hobby, I already have a Trekker rtf what would be a good first transmitter ?
@@dj39stif you watch my channel you’ll see that I do everything in the RC hobby and have about 50 different transmitters. For RC planes I prefer Spektrum transmitters and receivers.
Steve Asude from the Spektrum radio I think the DMS that comes with the rtf carbon cub, i see you using the iX12. Now I have an iX14 radio and am having fits over trying to program it.
Can you send me in the right direction to get the basics down for the iX series of radios.
Any help would be greatly appreciated as the 365 pg manual is very confusing.
Thanks
Bob at Sandbanks
For newbies You simply go on the Spektrum website & download the model for the horizon hobby plane you bought. Then when you click on Add New Model you click on BNF. If none of this makes any sense then I suggest you simply watch any of the tutorial videos on UA-cam.
@CAPTAINDRONE798 thanks Steve I wasnt aware of the Spektrum BNF site.
Happy flying
Bob
Awesome Video for these 2 RTF RC Planes! Very cool! I've got some experience flying RC Sailplanes - it's been more than a decade since I've last flown one but have been thinking about getting into the current generation of Electric Powered RC Planes.
Hi Steve....As always a good video. My last plane was a midwest giant sweet and low stick. Been 30 some years since I flew a plane. I sure been eyeballing that E-flite Cirrus SR22T........Have a great week.
When I get everything that goes I'm going to pull up Iron Man
Thanks, very helpful!
great review Captain wife again said no. she said i've enough drones/air planes/heles, to open a shop. oh well just keep dreaming.
Pretty darn good 🤔
They sell floats for the aeroscout s2 1.1m
In a bank turn, you have to use aileron to a varying degree...first roll the plane then let the stick go back to center, then pull back on the elevator stick...to go straight again, you roll out in the opposite direction
Thank you for this video
My pleasure
