are back for another comment almost a year in the corridor later but this is a fun one to play in your right learning the right hand pattern does help that's how I learned even though it's a basic song how to play Julia and Dear Prudence the same way just learning how to get that picking pattern with the right-hand once you know how to play a guitar it's basically just fretting chords but you're absolutely right that is a very very important tip I think
I enjoyed your tutorial and watch others. I may be wrong but I think your missing a chord shape at the start of the bridge, It starts with an open Am(?) 5th position as such: D string 7th fret and G string 5th fret for two cycles. then swap finger position to D string 5th and G string 7th...then slide down w. same shape to then add the contorted 2nd finger on the D as you aptly noted. Again, may be wrong but that what I hear and have played. Keep'em coming!
Hey Dale, can hands have dyslexia? I am mentally committed to nailing the 7 stroke pattern, but my right hand keeps arguing with me :) Thanks for caring enough to update your previous lesson! John
.1st off.....nice guitar....it was kerry livgrens wife who told him.u need to do somethin with that!.....he told her it was just a exercise....leave me alone..im tryin to wite....she said write shmite it sounds beautiful...so he he did.....all members knew itd go staight 2 the top...have used it in my exercises for over 40plus...[that and hitch]....livgren said it was just be4 he found the ........TRINITY.. [visa versa]..and it was how he really felt inside....kool u use it 2.....its sheer beauty and i think u have all 57 in the sauce..while im no instructor...i do have 1 gift for teaching....i use this done with a double pluck for newbies practice....no1 thing is getem makin music.....[something].....as fast as u can ..they wont put it down..ive taughtem this in cmajor aminor...double plucked ..played with the record had some of em bust down and start cryin right there in front of me..[guys 2!!.....they all say the same thing tho..."ive wanted 2 do this my whole life"..itll make u freinds for life!!!..2.......anyway............ great job on the vid!!...............................................never expect less/never get less....from ....................tdr........................................................................thanks tone.............thanks '
Wow......haven't ran across one of your vids in quite a while, but I saw your name with this DIFFERENT GUY in them. Then I clicked on it and noticed the glasses.....plus a hat. A new year, a new look. Nice to see you're still as tight as ever.
Hi Dale, Thanks for LLB, and on a Doobie Bro note: Here is a most recent rig rundown video of Tom Johnston's Rig ua-cam.com/video/nMPK8XTVFWc/v-deo.html -Ray
Thanks goes out to Merle Travis.Very good lesson, Dale. Now I gotta go back and review your first DITW tutorial. Your Taylor sounds and looks beuatimus gorgeful! Will you please describe it?
LOVE Merle Travis - what an amazing player - the Taylor is a 912C - i had one many years ago and let it go. I found this one last year used, the same year as the one i had before. I'm very thankful for it - the Grand Concert size feels so comfortable for a small guy like me - your friend, dale.
I love your videos and would like to see a chord chart of the chord you're playing in the lower right hand corner during the video because I'm an idiot who got stuck in the power chord cheating world of guitar and it's my first exposure to a lot of the chords you are playing in your videos. That's absolutely the only way you could improve the videos, because everything else completely rocks.
Dale, thank you for taking the time to share all your tutorials. You have the gift of teaching! Grew up with much of the songs you share and appreciate you teaching them to us. BTW; I've got a 914CE Florentine close to yours. These days I'm building my own... New chapter in life. Blessings brother!
hello sir! thanks for the very kind post and it's great to hear about your guitars...i bet the 914 is sweet:) I'm excited that you are building - i hope one day i can see some pics of your work - that's just great stuff! your friend, dale.
I always use the 7 stroke on DITW. I also agree... nail the picking pattern first. If you try to work out the picking while while holding down the chord shapes, your left hand fingers will eventually hurt. This song is actually not too difficult once the right hand work becomes automatic. It was the first complete song I learned on guitar. The pattern can seem tough at first but take your time & stick with it...it will happen. BTW..That is one sweet looking Taylor.
Hi, Dale! Hope your 2018 is off to a great start! Awesome video, my friend. You're a great player, and an inspiration to an ole' campfire picker like me. Until next time, take care my friend ... cheers!
I am sure you spoke during this but, it was drowned out by how the guitar was speaking to me! That things gorgeous! All kidding aside, great lesson! This is another one I always just settled for 'close 'nuff!' on previously. Thanks for the tips!
hello! sure appreciate you stopping by, always an honor...hope your New Year is off to a great start and i wish the best for every day ahead - your KY friend, dale.
Dang Dale! I’ve been playing that wrong for a long time! Thank you for teaching me the right way, again. Looking forward to seeing you at next years concert! Have you guys ever thought about doing some Scorpions? Tony
Thanks Dale, I guess I've been playing it the 7-note way because I can't play it with only 6. Such a great song, I really enjoy when you post, you are the best, thumbs up to a great 2018!
Great stuff Dale. This was one of the first songs that I learned how to finger pick 100 years ago. I'm pretty sure my accuracy was way off. Hope all is well my friend. Blessings, Chris
Thanks so much for doing this again, Dale. I’ve struggled with this favorite and this makes me feel like a good friend has stopped by just to help me out!
in a perf world we'd sit down together and pick a few - but until then I'm very glad you'd share your time and love of great tunes - stay well, your friend, dale.
Someone taught me this song when I was in high school... A very long time ago. I never played very much and never again until this video. And it all came back to me and corrected son many details. Thanks Dale. There's so much inner peace in your lessons and playing. Thanks for sharing.
I'm not a player Dale, but it is fascinating to watch a talented musician like yourself dissect then put together these songs that I have loved for decades... thanks again my friend.
Spent a few hours charting/tabbing this out, as l do with all your lessons. Well worth the time in order to get the most out of your outstanding tutorials! Thanks again, Dale!!
Happy New Year to you and your gang as well! Maybe one of these days we will get together and play a bunch of our faves...we can sure hope - your friend, dale.
those are tough for all of us! If there is any way to get another finger to 'help' your index finger, like on a minor chord or power chord, lay it on top as much as you can of your index finger to help add the pressure. You fingers will get stronger over time - acoustics of course are harder so use lighter strings if you ear will let you.
Dale I'm a relatively new follower of your fabulous lessons. When I first discovered you on UA-cam, I wondered where you were located, and when I figured out Lexington, I was thrilled, since I'm just south of you in Somerset. I just want to say Thank You for the time and effort you put into these lessons! Not only are you an extremely talented player, but you have a unique ability to teach so that even us amateurs can learn songs which would have, at least for me, been impossible without your help. Would love to meet you one day and Thank You in person! Please let your viewers know what we can do to help support your efforts? God Bless you! Gene
hello Gene! It's great to hear that we are neighbors..Somerset is such a beautiful piece of KY - i hope one day we can connect and grab a bite and talk music! I greatly appreciate this very kind post, your friend, dale.
Thanks Dale for your reply. I've since looked at your entire volume of videos, and am even more impressed! Wow, I can't imagine the tremendous dedication it's taken you to get to the level of knowledge you have. Incredible! You should be in Nashville or LA as a studio musician! Would enjoy meeting you someday. Does Lex Lab Band ever play gigs in our area? If so, let me know when/where, and I'll bring a carload of folks up from Somerset to cheer you guys on! Fabulous, I'm just so amazed. Gene
tonedr 1997 on mine. I got the 912C with no pickup or electronics at all. At the time I thought it would be nice to choose a pickup of my liking such as K&K for the guitar but I could never bring myself to even put a pickup in it lol.
One of the best teachers and musicians right there folks.
