Dust In The Wind is a classic guitar song and one that sounds much harder than it really is. That's why it's such a great intermediate guitar song to learn. You need to learn one fingerpicking pattern and then stick with it through the entire song, almost. In this guitar lesson, Bryan lays out that finger style pattern and shows you all the chords to play the world famous intro, the verses and the chorus of Dust In Wind. You're my boy Blue!

Kerry Livgren (Kansas) used the chord progression as a finger picking exercise... one day his wife walked by and said it sounded pretty and he should put lyrics to it... he said, "Nah, it's just an exercise"... well, he did add lyrics and took it to the band... he said, "Guys, here's a little tune I wrote, it's not really Kansas stuff..." - well, the band's jaws dropped and a stunned silence fell over the room... Phil Ehart (Drums) spoke up and said "That's a Hit if I ever heard one..."... and it was and more than that... a timeless Classic.
That’s awesome!
I've tried a few DITW tutorials, yours is easy to follow and it sinks in. Thanks!🥰
Glad to hear it! Thanks 🙏
One of the best ever
What a classic song, Bryan I am just ecstatic that I found your channel, you are by far the teacher I connect with the most and such an excellent teaching style sir. You make learning fun again. lol Thanks bud keep up the great lessons!
Thanks so much! Glad you're enjoying the lessons 😊🎸
I spoke English like 50%, and I've been learning way more with you than Spanish tutorials. Thank you!
I am 2 years into guitar. I know a bunch of finger picking songs. Even though the finger picking pattern of this song is easy and the chords are easy, I have difficulty making it sound right.
Even if you have slight delay on the first combine finger picking and then speed up the finger picking, if won't sound right of your rythm is not correct.
You definitely won me over. Great clarity, great energy and attitude. And I have long wanted to master this iconic song...great memories
Thank you very much. Glad it could help you out
There are at least a dozen tutorials of this song on YT. Yours is by far and away the best:
Easy to understand explanation, moving at a reasonable speed for beginners and a good attitude. Appreciation from Canada. Thumbs up , Subbed.
Thank you so much!
Good lesson, good clarity.
Thank you! 🙏
Thanks 👍
This is the best tutorial, on youtube, for this song. Thank you. Subbed.

I often tried to learn the finger picking part but never succeeded until watching your video - Your video is extremely well done - Thank you so much !
Thanks! glad it helped you get that part down
I loved your lesson. I am actually blind that I was able to follow along, so good job man.

So beautiful ❤ currently learning Ode To Joy 😱 hats off to all you guitar geniuses!
Ode to joy is a great one!
My favourite song
Yes, this is a terrific tutorial. I'm starting to be able to play it. I subscribed because of this tutorial. You have a great attitude too!
Thank you for your kind words! Glad you are getting it!
Old video but very helpful. Also great teaching style. Isn't that three chords right before the singing starts instead of two? The Am hitting the G and B strings...the G over B...then the C hitting the G and B strings? Or did I miss something? Maybe the C was actually the beginning chord in the next bar....I'll have to play it and see when I get a chance. Thank you for posting!
Thanks!
Yes, the C is part of the next bar.
Great tutorial. Easy to follow. Get that picking pattern down and the song is a piece of cake.
Thank you!
I tried in vain many times with Dust in the wind. Come across your lesson it surely hold me hand to the success.

Thank You!
Great explanation, really clear chord diagrams and love your enthusiasm!!
Thank you 🙏
Thanks for tutorial 🙏
You’re welcome. Thanks for watching
Nicely presented.
How about the chords and pattern for the instrumental?
Thanks :-)
NOTE: not too much hand movement on chord changes. The answer to massively less it: DO NOT remove that second finger from the fretboard at ANY time. It is glued to the fretboard (a fret is the space between the fretWIRES). Note, too, Kansas does not use a thumbpick. Also, on the album there are three guitars on the song: 2 sixes and a 12-string all in harmony.
This video is actually better than other youtuber I've seen. Thanks for your help, Brain.
Glad you think so!
@@theguitarfactoryoc The first video on UA-cam that I watched was Marty Music. He lost me during the introduction of C chord. I got down the A and B strings together. And open D and G string. After that, he was playing these extra notes without telling, so I gave up. It's my fault for not having the actual notes or tabs on me. With your video, it took me an hour less to play the whole chord. You're an amazing person, thank you.
There's a reason why I wanted to learn how to play this song. It was "Highlander-Dust in the Wind montage" In this show, Duncan MacLeod, immortal, lost his loved one's who passed away and the song "Dust in the Wind" plays over him. I will share your video to a dear friend of mine :)
Sir, what happened to the bridge section?? Please advise…

Looks like you are NOT travispicking it. Correct?
You look like Steve Stine.
LOL I've heard this before :-)
You are doing half arpeggios it sounds like. The song must really be travispicked.
