  • This is my first video prepping for getting my car California legal. When you swap engines you are allowed to follow certain guidelines. But even when you do that you still need to go to a state smog station and have them check your work. So here are some tips as I finally begin this process

      Yeah me too, it seems so straight forward but my car is throwing p0420 code saying catalyst is below efficiency. So either I can run a cleaner or need a whole new cat 😅

    hey, I just stumbled across your video because I was looking into barring my car as well! I was wondering if you might know if a B20z2 would be a legal swap for a 99' civic hatch. I researched and seen people say yes and no. I got a call appointment with them in a few days but maybe I can get a quicker answer from you haha!

      That may be a better question for 4 real time. I think his comment is just below yours because he has a 1991 Civic wagon all-wheel-drive that he is trying to put a B20 in and what the smog tech told him up in the bay area was that he had to Bar a B18 LS first and then because that is technically a stock replacement for the Integra then he could put the B20 in and bar that I don’t know if it worked out or not.
      Because I’ve heard that even though it’s a Honda motor and the right year lineup and everything else it’s considered a light truck motor . But Mr. for real time also pointed out the hypocrisy of being able to spend $10,000 and buy a California legal V-8 that you can put in any car maker model as long as you can stuff it in there but somehow a Honda motor in a Honda is somehow a problem.

    does the ECU need to VIN match the engine and trans?

    • @civicstar982
      @civicstar982  Місяць тому

      I don’t think that is a thing as far as u know. You can put in an engine the same year or newer. This is a 2000 so I have a 2000 spec GSR any b series trans that fits. Then the ecu has to be obd2b since that covers 99-01 in integras and 99-00 in civics to match the wiring I have

    I’m going the exact same issue with the same motor but in a 99 Civic hatch and the state ref has been giving me constant issues with my catalytic converter that requires a two bung. I’ve already got a confirmation from Acura stating my diagram is correct but the state ref keeps challenging that it’s incorrect.

    • @civicstar982
      @civicstar982  9 місяців тому

      So I’m currently trying to get the right cat that’s the last thing I need. Even hit up my old mechanic friend who has the state refs cell number. I’m trying to figure out the right EFN#. But it seems odd because the Integra factory manifold has a bung for the primary so I’d assume the cat would just have the down stream O2 sensor. That’s my only issue a CEL for cat efficiency. Then I’ll go to Honda and have them check my ecu then make a ref appointment

    • @JohnnieIsBored
      @JohnnieIsBored 9 місяців тому +1

      @@civicstar982 the catalyst is the exact issue that I have with the state ref and he even told me to go get it verify with the dealer which I did and they stated that it was correct. It’s been countless research with an associate from American Honda and the dealer that my diagram is correct. Also the Honda, Acura configuration are also off. So I am currently still waiting for a response from the state ref.

      @@JohnnieIsBored we should be smog exempt by now. All these trucks rolling coal and a couple Hondas are the problem 🤦🏾‍♂️. One advantage is that my county isn’t advanced so they don’t put the car on the rollers for the smog test at the ref. But have to get past visual. I need to clean up the wiring so that it looks more factory.

      @@JohnnieIsBored if you need some co leaders of the movement hit up 4realtime he has a civic wagon 4wd b20 swapped and the ref told him no. What if i have 1998 civic ex, using ex harness to 99 gsr, what do i need to do from there

    • @civicstar982
      @civicstar982  5 місяців тому

      That seems pretty linear. It should mostly plug in because that harness is already VTEC. You might need to add in some IAB’s. Which I think have one plug but if you run the skunk to manifold, you can just delete that. The only thing that will be difficult is for it to be legal. You’re gonna need the 99 to 01 ecu And there’s a conversion harness it’s like 160 bucks that will make it work

      @@tubyaj5662 if you are using the oem GSR manifold you will need a plug to go into the IAB system to help actuate the secondary butterfly system. But I don’t need that any more since I have the skunk2 manifold. And my harness is just a modified 99-00 civic ex one because other wise I wouldn’t have the vtec wiring or plugs on my cx model body
