MSFS2020 A320 - Autopilot Fix - Following the Flight Plan
Вставка
- Опубліковано 19 жов 2020
- This video takes a look at why some users are finding their autopilot in the A320, not following the flight plan & sometimes circling over and over. Watch now to discover why it does this and more importantly, how to stop it & keep your aircraft & autopilot on course.
*NOTE: Also, please ensure your sensitivity zones on your yoke/sidestick are set tp 10% null zone! - Ігри
I am so happy to have found this video. This was making me crazy, and it screwed up my last three approaches. I hate that we can't just delete them, but am at least happy to know why it's happening.
It's insane that this bug is STILL in the game. You've made my sim experience so much better with this video. I was really struggling before seeing this!
Now the bug appears on the regular A320N...
@@yannickwolff4335 just happened to me after 3 hours of flying
Still happening to this day
320neo
As I see it is almost 2 years now from all the comments before me😅😅
Same here, still after 2 years, sometimes it follows the flight plan sometimes it doesn't, i cant figure out the patern why sometimes it does, but i gues if you use intl airports or big airports with real flight route then it follows the flight plan
Omg i found the trick, for me every time when it wont follow the flight plan i just turn on the ai piloting then off, then all good
A really well done tutorial, i will pleased to follow you on how to make the AP follows the FL i 've selected too!
Thanks a lot - one of the most usefull vids for MSFS. The Autopilot flew me everywhere i didnt want to fly, but now it is over. Many thanks :-)
Fantastic! Glad I could help.
I was wondering why my aircraft was behaving like this. Now I know. Thanks for working out what was going on. Hope they get this bug sorted out in upcoming updates. Great video!
So I used a Simbrief FP for a KLAX/KPDX flight. There were 2 USR way-points. I did a DIRECT as I approached the USR waypoint to the actual fix in the FP. This procedure does work.
We all need to submit this to Zendesk as a bug report. Ask for "usr" to be treated as a disco and for it to be deletable on the MCDU.
I can't wait to try this - had two approaches to Cancun completely shattered and had no idea what was going on. Also I find myself wanting to right click the video and change the view LOL
Haha. Can't help you with the video view, but hopefully, the technique works!
Aw crap, this has been out for a month now and I never saw it. Thank you so much. I have been so frustrated with this bug since it started a few updates ago. I will try this.
Thanks so much for the help, im doing my first Long haul Flight atm due to your help. Again thank you so much i really appreciate it✈️
Well done! Thank you very much!!! I learned something new today, just as well this morning I flew around Belfast and had the same issue and wasn't sure what going on..... Once again thanks!
Belfast runway 25 (if I remember correctly) doesn't have a STAR for the ILS so creates a F-PLN DISCONTINUITY there.
@@Easyjetsimpilot Yep! That's one , RNW 25, but was quite interesting challenge .
Where did you get that above drop down view of speed/eta/atl/heading ?
Wow! Thanks...that explains so much..I was getting this on one in about six approachs and at wits end...can't wait to try
Thank you so much, i was very frustrated of this "Bug" but now im very happy :D Thank you very very much!
Excellent explanations - it solved the problem for me too. Thank You Very Much
Also I noticed that the "Direct Intercept" function doesnt work, ie. You activate 2 wpts forward and it messes the ND and it doesn´t follow directly to that wpt.
So confused. At 20:00, why did you select to go to USR after spending the previous 20 minutes saying you want to go direct to the waypoints beyond USR?
Thanks a lot for this amazing tutorial, really, shared it on msfs2020 forum, Hope it could help! Respect captain!!!
Thank you Gabriele.
So that USR waypoint on the ILS won’t affect the approach? Do I need to skip it too?
Thank you so much for these insights. It is 2023 and still this bug exists. I play with Xbox Series S and just controller but pretty much manage all ok. Haven't had the CTD for 12 flights so far, so maybe they are slowly fixing things.
One thing is bugging me (pun intended)...... The magenta diamonds often never appear. I am at 3000ft LS is on yet they do not show. Any positive advice would be welcome.
I just found the answer to my problem I think - well done and thanks for sharing
This has happened in the 787 Dreamliner as well. It just goes off course on its own. I have to literally “nudge” my thrust master joystick to get it to go back on course. I don’t remember if there was a USR point in the 787 plane? I’ve dont the whole the direct thing but the whole point is, why should we have to? It’s broken. This shouldn’t happen to begin with. SMH. Is there a permanent fix?
i dont have usr points but it still sometimes does this the direction option does works but idk to what waypoint to direct to
Thank you. This video helped me a lot!
wonderful video! deserves a thumbs up!
I have the Dev version.
The simbrief waypoint names are not the same as the MSFS names.
I’m very confused. Which plan do I follow??
Example: Simbrief and the MCDU have a waypoint named HEC.
MSFS ATC tells me to “continue on to DVVRL as planned”, which is way off course.
I tried googling but nothing comes up regarding this.
Anyone???
I was departing LFPO, on the outbound climb, TCAS detects a flight, everything goes red, plane takes action and disconnects the AP.
I could never use AP after that. Just wouldn’t engage at all. Managed mode or heading;. AP just unresponsive and was sounding disconnected alarm when I pressed it. Manually tracked the path hoping a reset of everything and ‘direct to’ would work, but again nothing.
I threw my toys out of the prams switched off after about 20-25 solid minutes of trying to tee gave with the (sim brief) flight plan.
great video explanation and solution. Well done!
I don't see USR in flight plan and auto pilot still isn't working on that aircraft. I think I just need to try a different one
Good video. Thanks for posting.
Very informative. Thank you very much for this tutorial.
Very detailed tutorial, thanks 😊
Great tutorial, thank you so much 👍👍
It seemed ok for the most part the last couple of months but the last week 90% of all approaches have been skipped and mcdu has jumped straight to the airport waypoint. Could it have made things worse becaues I installed Navigraph database? I always plan my flight using Simbrief and loading that flight plan also in MFS2020. The parking is also not aligned with the airport gates many times the last couple of weeks. Semething has changed for the worse thats for sure for me. I use the latest A32NX stable build. Maybe I should uninstall navigraph database for MFS and just skip simbrief and plan my flights in MFS. In my case I didt have any USR waypoints which makes it strange. Yesterday I did have a USR waypoint but I couldn´t delete it by clicking on CLR and then on the waypoint. I am sure it has worked before. Tonight I flew from YMML to YSSY and the gate parking space number 6 was misaligned with the plane. Flight went well a part from the last part when at one of the waypoints during approach it skipped to the runway airport. I used RIVET3 as STAR and ILS16R.
Thank you for this video. I was looking for A video exactly About this wondering of the flightplan problem. Also, when flying with a yoke, the yoke must stay in neutraal position while on Ap. Hitting the yoke slighly Will make the plane go off cource.
The second usr point at the start of the ILS approach, do you need to jump by this one as well or do you select app mode before you hit the usr waypoint?
By this time, I'd usually be using heading mode and getting vectors from ATC so the USR point wouldn't be an issue.
My Xbox A320 on AP still sometimes randomly goes off course into a steep turn. No USR waypoints. No controls input from me. Just following a FP programmed in the main menu. So annoying!
Thanks alot of sharing, It helped me out!
How do you make the autopilot follow your flight plan?
This is great find, well done. The USR points all look to be valid waypoints looking on Navigraph, your SID one is at D26.0 POL so is it possible to replace the USR point with the real waypoint or does it mean the game is missing them? I guess to follow the SID fully you could hit DIR to just before you get there but is a pain to have to do.
I'm not sure about replacing them; but as far as I can't tell, all the way points are there, just not always inputted correctly by MSFS yet.
The FMS has also severe Problem when entering or deleting waypoints during the flight or selecting DIR to a waypoint. I don't understand what is so difficult, it is just a list of waypoints. My guess is that the MSFS default autopilot is so messed up that they have diffculties correcting it.
Thanks man, i thought is there any problems with my flight plan but it doesn't because i follow the youtube instruction. The reason i play this game because the A320Neo and Cessna 208B. The autopilot right after gear up also helps me because sometimes the plane not going to the next waypoint if i start the autopilot after passing first waypoint.
This helped very much thanks!
Can you just delete the usrs? Will it work
Good to know...thank you for that!
hi all, for me the spd remains at 100 without me being able to deactivate it and the autopilot does not start, can anyone help me?
Thanks! It happened in my first A320FBY flight in msfs. I noticed the USR in the fms but didn't figure what it was, then on the final, the AP went rogue and crashed my plane...
Ooph, thank you so much for figuring this out!
Happy to help.
if we want the autopilot follow the flightplan as entered into MCDU, is there a "VOR LOC" button on the cockpit? Because when I was fliyng in FSX with A320, there was a "VOR LOC" button to follow the route and I hit the button on the cockpit called "GPS"...in this new flight sim, I couldn't find the "GPS/NAV" button... when I hit the "GPS" button, the aircraft could follow the route as should be...
There isn't a GPS/NAV button in the real A320 and so this is now much more realistic.
Nice Video, I will try This.
Well done sir!
Is there a good A320 model out there to use ? I find the MSFS version frrustrating... too many bugs and shortcomings.
Aerosoft ? I think I deleted that because MSFS was crashing too often. Thanks for the video !
Google Flybywire A32NX
Thank you for the video i was flying for 8 hrs to get to new york airport and i lost my flight plan it dissapeard so had to cancel the flight very frustrated
For me when I take off , it switches to track mode but I don’t know how to switch it back to nav
This sounds like either hasn't got a flight plan in the MCDU, or you are taking off in HDG mode.
excellent explanation of usr.
how do you manage them with the newer jets.....like the dreamliner?
Afraid I'm not familiar with the dreamliner.
FINALLY I GOT IT!! THANKS!!!!
Nope, A320 Neo (default) still drifts to 360 circle after latest update, won't even follow heading let alone flight path. I don't have any USR waypoints and tried the DIR to next waypoint and it ignores it, any ideas? ......never mind, got it. Was deadzone setting :-(
Hi, can you explain this a bit more? I've seen a few people say about the deadzone setting, however when I'm trying to use AP / fly an IFR route, I don't touch the movement controls, as the AP should be handling everything. If I do, the AP disengages yes, but I would have expected that. The only other thing I use my controller for mid-flight is changing the view - this doesn't disengage AP, so shouldn't be what is causing the issue?
Any update on the “bug” fix? Will it end up being a msfs update or neo flybywire update?
Probably both. FBW are looking to build their own autopilot, and Asobo will also want to fix their default issues.
What I found was my numeric key pad assignments for cockpit views conflicting the with other key assignments, eg it would go into slew mode ect....anyhow problem solved.
In my flight plan there aren't this issues but the plane doesn't follow the path and change direction. How can I solve?
Ensure you're in NAV mode.
Loading a saved game on the Xbox version did this to me today. In the end i just scrolled down my flightplan and flew direct to the destiantion airport because it was totally messed up. The old flight plan and plane NAV were doing conflicting things.
Yeah, whether loading the Xbox version or fast travelling through to any point in your flight on Xbox, the flight plan gets completely messed up.
I use this DIRECT TO WAYPOINT method, and it works, but oncei get there my flight just does circles around that way point.
Will the plane automatically descend from enroute phase to approach phase? Secondly where is the function to tell me how many miles I am from destination airport?
No, the decent must be initiated by you, the pilot.
If you have the FlyByWire mod, on the F-PLN page of the MCDU, at the end of your flight plan it tells you how far away you are in nautical miles.
I have a problem with the AP not following the FD like it should. I put hdg mode on and engage AP, then switch off AP when ATC sends vectors to make a turn and then re engage it and enable roll mode to hold the turn (FD indicates a bank angle, AP behavior matches FD). I then disengage AP again to roll out on the desired heading (FD still indicates bank angle). I level out, then I quick swap to heading mode then back to roll mode with AP disengaged (FD goes wings level) Then re engage in roll mode hoping it will hold the wings level (FD indicates wings level but AP starts to turn again despite the FD). Isn’t the AP supposed to be slaved to the FD? If I get FD to reset to wings level and then re engage in roll mode, shouldn’t it try to STAY wings level?
Do not disengage the AP. Leave this on. There is no 'roll mode' on the Airbus 👍
@@Easyjetsimpilot If I don’t disengage it FD stays banked at like 30 degrees. I wanted to manually acquire the heading, establish a straight and steady climb and then have the AP keep my wings level and VS around 800 or so once established in the climb, but it’s like it’s stuck trying to bank right.
Most likely because the FMGC is programmed to take you somewhere behind you. Always check what mode you are in (FMAs)
Going to try this, had this issue. Great vid!
Nothing I do works for me trying to land at KORD on ILS 28C. If I manage to get within 1500 feet of the runway (something that I very seldom accomplish) the plane pitches over and dives right into the ground. Usually, it circles into the ground that at the start even though I adjust the flight plan as you describe.
Have you turned off the icing effects of msfs?
@@Easyjetsimpilot My goodness. You're responding to a comment on a video you made two years ago. That's impressive! No, I have not turned off icing effects, but that for the tip! I'll give it a go.
Hi. Can you tell me where to get the top display you have showing the data. Many thanks GMan
It's from FlyLive Studio 👍 *note you don't get to see this when playing the sim, it's only displayed in recordings/streaming.
@@Easyjetsimpilot Many Thanks for your Quick reply. I am new to MSFS your tutorials are invaluable, I think I would have given up if not for the fantastic information. Thanks again. GMan
@@gerrypalmer6712 no problem at all. If you have any questions, just ask.
I can't find USR...
Very many thanks - this is a great workaround until they fix it propper.
As soon as I turn on the autopilot in my a320, it just does a nose dive and crashes into the ground... I’ve looked through my flight plan over and over again, and I can’t see any mistakes that I made
This is not you. This is the latest update from Microsoft breaking the FlyByWire Autopilot. Fix should be on the way shortly.
Absolutely ridiculous how this issue is still in the game. Was flying from Amsterdam to Saint Martin (9hours) and when I was descending and approaching I checked I looked at the FMC and then my autopilot out of nowhere stops following the flight path and flies the opposite direction. I disconnected the autopilot and tried flying the plane to the path again and tried turning it on again and started turning the same direction again and this time nose diving. Quit the game, not gonna be playing it in a while lol too many bugs, that has been in the game since day 1
good job!:)
I got excited when I saw this video, however when I went to go try it out, I found that I didn't have any of the USR waypoints (other than one at the end as you enter approach). No matter what I try, the navigation still randomly stops working, even when AP is still on, sending the plane into a spiral. Why is this still happening nearly a year after release? Are Microsoft just not going to bother trying to fix this?
any fix?
Yeah, it was the dead zone. Shouldn't have been, as I wasn't touching the left stick, but if you set it to even 5% it solved the problem for me
@@Spudnash Can you explain what you mean? What dead zone? 5% of what?
@@itistheway6893 so I don't know what type of input you use to fly, but I use a standard Xbox controller, and even when you don't touch the elevator / aileron axis, for some reason I think it still detects 'input' which throws the autopilot. If you go into the controller settings in FS, for each axis you have a 'dead zone' slider, I found that it only needs to be 5% for it to solve the problem (much higher and it makes it a lot harder to fly the aircraft when you actually don't need the autopilot!)
As a live streamer this video is priceless. Thanks mate.
You're very welcome. Hope to see you in the skies soon & will subscribe 👍
I ended my live stream this morning because autopilot screwed me twice. this video has all the answers!
Why do you sound like Jonathan Brouwer from easyJet inside the cockpit season 1 episode 2
Still get these bugs today. also AP not engaging.
Can you avoid this problem if you just manually enter the flight plan directly into the FMC instead of doing the flight plan in the main menu?
Not really, as the issues normally arise with the insertion of the SID & STARS, regardless of when they are entered.
Gotcha, really appreciate the video! Hopefully they fix this problem soon but with this work around it’ll make it so much more fun
There was a similar problem in Xplane 11. I am not sure I have this right but I seam to remember that you clicked on the way point below and replaced the User. Rather than trying to delete it. Not sure if this will work I will try it later.
In MSFS2020, attempting to clear the USR waypoint causes some issues. Found it is best just to go DIR to the next waypoint in the plan.
@@Easyjetsimpilot I’ve tried it and it will not work. I’ll use your idea, frustrating.
I am getting this issue with the USR; yet what is causing this issue, do you know ?
Hopefully, the video should explain what the USR point is.
@@Easyjetsimpilot Yes I get that but do you think this will be resolved, as it is very annoying
The autopilot always disconnected after airborn
hello I have the issue that after landing I 'm unable to turn off the runway.
is your AP off? Is your autobreaks off?
@@Easyjetsimpilot yes everything is off
A bit late in the day but the A320 by Asobo is a nightmare! totally broken and so is the Dreamliner!
Anyone got this problem? A320 with Auto pilot, flying an Angle. NOT level.... Calibrate the controls and still the same. Need help Thanks
i have a question if you can get back to me thatd be much appreciated
Yes Mine is the same. Plane is not level flight with Auto pilot.
Love you bro
Any word if Asobo will be addressing this issue soon?
I've not heard anything. As explained in the video, technically, it isn't a bug - it's just been implemented differently compared to the real world.
@@Easyjetsimpilot I wished Asobo would have stuck to what is in the real work. This was confusing.
I have made many flight plans for A320 and I have never seen USR before. Get latest A320X build from Flyebywire, I have never had a problem with the autopilot since they have worked on this aircraft. I always use Simbrief to make my Fplan then I loaded it into sim. Works wonders.
This was the latest build from FBW (0.4.0). SImBrief is all I use for my flight plans as they replicate the ones I've had from the real world flights. USR (F-PLN DISCONTINUITIES) occur not all the time, but frequently, both in the sim and in real life. Usually when getting a change of routing from ATC or a new STAR. They certainly don't occur on every route.
@@Easyjetsimpilot Keep up the fantastic work I really enjoy your video's
I’ve had these problems still occuring with the FBW mods on several WPTs en route. Not just on SIDs or STARs. The technique of DCT to the next WPT worked in some cases, in other cases I had to skip several, in the worst cases it just kept spinning out of control till I crashed. Wasn’t able to get back on the route using HDG mode either. Flight was from Haneda to Incheon.
@@Eastbirds_Lee If in.trouble, pulling the heading bug and selecting a heading should always work.
However, make sure in your sensitivity settings, you have set your dead zones to 15-19% as otherwise it can conflict with the AP.
I will try that too! So far your tutorials amd tips are next level. You should be paid by Asobo and Microsoft :D
Can anyone tell me if these issues are still present in the sim after nearly a year?
Not if you fly the Flybywire experimental version of the Mod.

Thank you, but it doesn't work....I tried it with many types of FP's, including direct GPS, high-altitude airways, and manually entering the route...DOES NOT WORK...lol....as a matter of fact, most FP's that I load don't have that weird waypoint, and the ones that do have that I can delete it and it still doesn't follow the route....:(
Are you using an external flight planner? (SimBrief) or programming the MCDU manually on the ground?
I’m
Using all of the above. I’ve tried it manually, SimBrief, flight planner within sim, it’s all the same result.
socal20001 i’ve kept on running into similar issues. I’m using the Game Pass standard version. Could that be a reason perhaps? I haven’t yet tried loading in via Simbrief
@@Eastbirds_Lee both gamepass/standard/premium versions etc ask have the same navigation database & so that shouldn't be a cause.
THANK YOU !!!!
I can't even the Autopilot to lock in, and now it's June 25th 2021 Doesn't matter how often I hit it :( and that's even in the FBW version. the Autopilot has been working fine when I have simply been using the default version :(
Sounds like one of the speed protections is active. This would prevent the AP from engaging.
Hi everyone, I just want to share a possible fix for this after experimenting in the latest A320 FlybyWire developmental build. So the FBW build seems to have fixed the autopilot issues for the most part but on taxi, I suddenly lost GPS and my PFD screens went into lost GPS mode (black and red and NAV TCAS fault).
The Fix: In the GPWS panel above your head (bottom left section) flick all the switches off and then turn them on again. I did this and my GPS flicked back on and I could see my flight paths again. Took off and the whole flight went perfectly.
Once again, I am running FlybyWire latest development build as of Dec 1st.
Hope this helps!
2024: 50 updates later and this problem (aka bug) is still in the game. I hope the fix it with the MSFS2024
Always wondered why when I load a fp from simbrief it differs. I will watch this later (not at 04:20 😂). Love your vids. Many thanks captain.
With a SimBrief flight plan, remember as well that once you load it up in the globe screen, if you zoom into the departure airport & select a departure gate (so you're not starting on the runway), you have to select the gate from the drop down menu - if you click on a departure gate & select 'set as departure', it will change your flight plan route.
However selecting it from the drop down list doesn't. 👍
@@Easyjetsimpilot thanks so much mate. I will try this out later. BTW I’m new to the A320. I loved the 738 Zibo on xplane. The A320 thrust settings baffle me what with flex temp etc. Have you done a vid on that aspect yet? Or can you recommend one? Cheers.
@@andrewsanderson1235 Flex temp is basically a reduced thrust setting for take-off to preserve the life of the engines (so it's not running in maximum power - TOGA).
The pilots use software to input the take off runway, winds, payload, etc & it figures out a temperature to tell the engines to work with. You're basically lying to the engines about the current air temperature. Working that 'lie' temperature out is little in depth. However, this should help explain about the AIrbus thrust settings & autothrust. ua-cam.com/video/ymPJdOTLkCY/v-deo.html
@@Easyjetsimpilot thanks once again. Just watched the usr vid. Thanks so much. Why hasn’t anyone else highlighted it I wonder. And thanks for the UA-cam link for the thrust settings for takeoff.
