- Hello and welcome, thanks for stoping by. Today I'm installing a Scan Gauge 3 into the Tacoma. It's a little tight in the cab for a perfect spot, but it ended up in an ideal position for me. I am a huge fan of data as it helps me understand my vehicles better. Temps are a must for me to keep an eye on. I feel like I'm more connected to the truck and have a better understanding of whats going on. Its super easy to set up and install, just find the spot that works best for you. All links below. Thank you! Very helpful.
Appreciate it.
You can use two tape measure belt clips to hook it to your headliner.
That sounds like a great idea. I would have never thought of that. Thank you.
How did you get those gauges tire pressure and trans temps.
Look in the X gauge settings. Directions -- To access ScanGauge 3 X-Gauge settings, navigate to the "Home" screen, press the "MORE" button, then select "X-Gauge" - from there, you can choose to "Auto Scan" to automatically detect available vehicle-specific gauges, or manually select specific X-Gauges by browsing through the list of available parameters for your vehicle; you can customize the display of each gauge with different units, warning thresholds, and color schemes depending on the readings.
Thanks for watching.
Can you differentiate what trans temp1 is versus trans temp 2?
Sure, one usually measures at the torque converter and one at the cooler. Generally that’s how they are placed. Thanks for watching.
I believe 1 is at the pan and 2 is at the converter
I have a 2005 tacoma 2nd Gen. Does anything special have to be done to get the Trans Temps to work? Or it reads them rite out of the box? Thanks for any info
It will read it right out of the box, look in the X-Gauge Section of the settings.
@ClassyTacos Okay, thanks a lot, mine will be here today. I'll let you know if it reads the trans Temps.
@@ernie5187did it read?
would the value readings be off (mpg, mph, etc) if you're using bigger tires that are not calibrated?
Good question, I'm not sure if you could adjust tire size or gear ratio on the unit. I have a Hypertech Speed Calibrator installed, so my mph is almost exact to my GPS, maybe off by 1 mph. Thanks for watching.
Does this allow you to see oil pressure?
I have to look, oil temp for sure pressure I’m ify. Give me a couple days, let me see what I can find.
Can you read oil pressure?
Not sure on the oil pressure. It will read oil temp. Thanks for watching.
Im glad I found this video, I've been watching for different review videos of scangauge 3 but haven't shown or mention the Tire Pressure gauge monitoring. How did you enable or activate this feature? I believed it's in the Xgauge tab, did scangauge automatically scan for it or did you manually enable it?
You’re right it is within the XGauge tab. You would select it and then tell it what page you want it on. It’s real close to the factory read out. Thanks for watching.
@@ClassyTacos got it.. thank you
It would be really awesome scanguage could figure out how to hack into the infotainment screen so you wouldn’t have to have an extra screen. Maybe a phone app could allow that through apple play or the android version.
I agree, there are a couple aftermarket head units that allow it. There is an extra add on that will display vehicle data, it just requires a new head unit. Thanks for watching.
love this but have a suggestion for you. what about a tech deck system goes above your heater controls and you can mount 2 things on it
Thanks for the suggestion. I have thought about of those things, but I’m on the fence. Don’t really like the way they look.
Are you running a dash cam mirror? Wolfbox?
I am. My spare tire blocks the rear window. Here is the full install video. - ua-cam.com/video/s-8I787vFBw/v-deo.html
@@ClassyTacos I need to pick up one of these, my rear is blocked as well. I have an after market head unit and can not get an anytime front camera to work with the wiring. What are your thoughts on using this front camera outside of the truck in the grill to work as a front camera to better see obstacles in the way? Would I need to buy a separate camera rated for outside use?
@@csteeves9419 I ended up with any time camera for the front in the grill, and this kit for a front on the glass, another one in the cab and the rear one. I’m not sure the inside the cab cam is rated for the elements.
What knife do you have mounted to your center console?
It's a Benchmade SOCP Dagger, I have 2, love them.

Check out the Setrab 9 series trans cooler w/ dual 12V fans. I know a few bubbas that use that oil cooler to cool their diesel transmissions in the desert. Check out SET-FP920M22I on Pegasus.
Thank you for the heads.up, I will definitely look into it.
Doesn't teach us how to get the gauge to display anything - like the transmission & coolant temps.
There really not much to be taught, it reads the gauges for you. Everything else is self explanatory. Thanks for watching.
