Thanks for making this video, I use a SG II in my 5th gen 4Runner. I definitely like the newer Scan Gauge from the mount to the information and graphics.
Love seeing this tool, my fuel gauge doesn’t work on mine and I’m looking for options to get around that. Also love the 4WUNNA, I just redid mine and put it as MTRNNR.
I have a scan gauge “1,” I mean the very FIRST “1.” You can't even get a manual for it anymore. Anyway, it is the BEST investment you can ever make! The only difficult thing was finding a place in my truck to install it. The SG saved my butt many times re: battery/alternator performance. I have a Foxwell BT 705 Battery checker and it won't read when the alt. is overcharging. The SG does. The SG is also really important now since after 26 years the stock temperature “idiot” gauge finally died. The SG gives a perfect readout of the coolant temperature. Not some stupid analog indicator that, from experience, has a LOT of latitude before it starts to indicate an overheating condition. The only problem/concern I would see with where you put yours is it might end up baking in our hot summer sun.
@@ADBLOCKER4UA-cam you are so right, the sun is HOT on this thing. And I wish I would’ve mentioned the gas and temp gauges. Our 4Runners don’t have the most accurate gauges and being able to see exactly what temps the coolant and trans fluid is gives me peace of mind. And when my gas gauge says I’m at half tank, the scan gauge shows I’ve still got 10 gallons. Those old school gauges can be deceiving.
@@tylerdillehay Unfortunately, my SG doesn't read the trans temp. The only other thing I wish it had was oil pressure. You didn't show it in your video but does the V3 still have the trip odometer? My truck came with bare-bones instrumentation - meaning almost nothing - including the lack of a resettable odometer. So if I wanted to do a trip that includes going xx miles down a road then turning and going xx more miles, etc, I was out of luck. The SG1 has that feature and it made my life a lot easier. I think it cost me around $150 some 24 years ago. One of the best add-ons I ever bought. There is another multi gauge out there like it (I forget the name) and it sells for a lot less but they put the function buttons on the BACK of the unit! Talk about STOOOOPID!!!!! I have a simple temperature gauge stuck in the center a/c vent to measure how well the unit is working, and sometimes when I come out to the truck on a hot day it will read near 150 degrees!

@@brucekrolikowski2882 I bet you’ll get a ton more information for your 5th gen when you do the x-gauge scan. The newer cars have a lot more sensors.

My kenwood head unit with a maestro does a lot of the same stuff. I like the fuel cost stuff though seems useful
@@TheEPIChino yeah I’m honestly regretting the Sony unit a tiny bit. Better than stock but there are others with tons more features for less money.
can you tell me what is the order of the colored wires inside the connection ? I want to see if my other obd2 connection can fit this device. Thanks.
