      I'm also using this exact tablet. It's super cheap and AMAZING! Great colors right out of the box. Two really cool things I found out about it are;
      1)
      If you turn the screen power off for the tablet, you can still use it as a drawing pad...MindBlown! I found this by accident cause I was just trying out the pen feel before I turned on the screen and the cursor was moving on my monitor. So you basically get two for one.
      2) You don't have to run external power. It can be powered by any USB port on your computer!
      I even got it to work as a mobile screen for my PS4 through the USB. I wouldn't use it for that though, it's a really bad gaming screen lol. I just wanted to see if it would actually work.

      Both tablets have 1080p resolution so the smaller screen is going to look a lot sharper. Of course that said a 22" screen at 1080p is still pretty sharp (says the old person who remembers the time before HD and 4K).
      Also worth noting that as of this post the 22 looks like it has the rechargeable pen and the 15.6 pro uses the EMR pen.

    Your review must be one of my favs!! I’ve seen your comments etc below about how it would be better to get the 22 series for long hours do work - but currently I do not have the budget for that :/ do you still think 2-6 hours of work could be done with this?

    • @AlonDan
      @AlonDan  4 роки тому

      Hi There, thank you for your kind words, I'm glad that my reviews are helping (that's my main goal).
      Please understand, Everything I share is based on my personal experience: working with 16" or smaller is not the same as 22" or larger size screens mainly because of the working area or the "digital canvas" is obviously smaller that's why I always suggest to go with 22" or higher for longer sessions, or many days of work in the week.
      If it's 1-3 hours a session I guess it can't hurt, that's what I recommend using it mainly: meetings with clients for / rough-ideas / sketches / storyboards so you can show something and it's GREAT that you can carry it with your laptop, showing stuff to people you work with is nice and easy, but again... for long-sessions / serious projects, I would recommend to save the money.
      I hope it helps a bit, good luck! :)

      Hi There!
      If you're looking for a something that you'll use a lot, I would say it worth getting either this model, or the 22 Pro / 22E Pro (E is with the express buttons).
      Listen to my advice at the end of the video it will help you consider what type of model you should get based on your needs (mobile / workstation).
      My advice is that you'll start with with 15" or 22". These are my favorite models from XP-Pen because I'm still using them for many hours a day.
      Another advice: on the description I post my reviews to the other 15.6 (not pro) model, you should also check it out, it is different a bit but also cheaper in case budget is an issue. I also review the 22PRO (which is almost like the 22E Pro, without the express keys).
      If you don't need the express keys, the models will be cheaper for you and you should consider it as well.
      I hope these tips helps a bit, I wish you best luck with your digital art journey! :)

    Hello, have you encountered issues with scratches on the display over time?
    Some people mentioned it being full of scratches after half a year of usage. Depends on the pressure you apply, I guess, but what is your experience with this?

    • @AlonDan
      @AlonDan  4 роки тому +3

      Hi There,
      Good question, let me share my personal experience:
      To be honest, I use many different devices during the last 2 decades (I'm a Dinosaur) and I've never seen a device with no scratches after some time. This is why xp-pen installed an extra layer around the screen so if you want to keep your device scratches-free (or should I say minimize it) don't remove it.
      In this specific model it's not simple to remove it, because it's pre-installed from under the panel warping around the glass so the "scratches" apply to this layer and not to the glass itself.
      On the old XP-Pen devices the users (us) had to install it by ourselves and it was never perfect, had air-bubbles and it didn't feel good to draw on unlike in this device.
      My tip is, be gentle, and to keep the life of the device longer switch the nibs once they get too sharp.
      From my experience, I barely have scratches and they are really hard to notice and believe me I'm KILLING the device since I use it a lot and as I mention on the video, Frame-by-Frame animation X hours of intensive sessions is very crucial compare to ANY other workflow.
      Even on my Wacom Cintiq I have some scratches after few years of intensive use, but it's a different story since the Wacom Cintiq have a special glass warped with actual defensive extra layer for anti-scratches and another layer to prevent reflections so it's not the same as the XP-Pen devices in that department (and in many others of course) that's just one of the reasons why it costs less than a Wacom.
      I hope that this helps a bit, good luck! :)

      Glad the review helps, The cool thing is that you can flip the device 180 degrees (so the buttons will be on the other side) and also flip the display using the drivers. so to your question: it is for both Right & Left-handed. :)

    It def does! I'm a hobbyist who currently works off a Galaxy Tab A in a flip book style. How do you think this would work for an older laptop? • @AlonDan

      Hi There,
      If your Laptop is working and you have HDMI and USB free to connect the Artist 15.6 Pro to it, I don't see any problem but only you know your hardware, after all it is a screen.
      The main reason I love this model beside it's features is because I need it all the time with my Laptop so whenever I go, it will be available inside my Laptop's bag wherever I go, ready to connect and go.
      Don't forget, this device can be connected to any other computer (with HDMI, USB and Supported OS). Just but make sure to always install the latest version of the drivers (it's always updates and gets better and better).
      Another advice is to have the latest version of the drivers on a disk-on-key in case you don't have internet connection.
      I hope it helps, good luck! :)

      Hi There,
      I guess you're wondering about actual laptop + digital pen comparison to this device, unfortunately I can't answer that because I'm not using the model you've mentioned so I can't compare, If you're curious about the laptop I used on this video, there is a link to similar specs on the description.
      TIP: I wouldn't compare a dedicated display screen like this model for example, to "ALL-IN-ONE" laptop which usually warming up very quick + eating up the battery so it's hell to work it for serious sessions, just my 2 cents.
      I hope it helps! :)

    I recently tested out the XP Pen 15.6 pro as I was considering buying it myself. I found only one problem, and was hoping someone could help me with this.
    The tablet isn't detecting my light strokes, I naturally don't draw with insane amount of pressure, but rather start with light and then build up. But it wasn't detecting my pen's pressure at all. (I'm used to drawing on a Wacom 13 pro at work and it detects all my lines). This feels like a deal breaker. Is there some solution to this problem, a way I can make the device more sensitive to my use?
    Please advice .

    • @AlonDan
      @AlonDan  5 років тому +3

      It sounds very weird since for me it works on light and heavy pressure as I draw and paint so I never had this issue with the device, I'm still using it and enjoy it's features.
      Anyway, here 3 options that may help you out:
      1. Try it on different applications to see if the issue is on a specific application only, if it is send an email to XP-Pen they may fix it on the next update.
      2. Try play with the the sensitivity on the panel, make sure it is for the specific application to see if the issue is with the application or not.
      3. If nothing helps, I'm guessing your device may be damaged or something wrong with the installation of the drivers (sometimes people forget to uninstall other Drivers of their older devices that may cause clashes or issues).
      If nothing helps, email XP-Pen they are always do their best to solve problems. I hope this helps a bit, have a nice day and good luck! :)

      I recommend that you'll watch both reviews and compare for yourself, your needs, your budget and see if you need the extra improvements and features, then check out the current prices since they're changing every now and then.
      TIP: This is currently my favorite traveling model mostly because of the Ring wheel, extra express keys, stand and fully illuminated screen. if it's in your budget don't think twice, get the PRO, if not the older model is very nice as well but make sure to watch my reviews of both and check the links to compare all the technical differences before you purchase.
      I hope it helps a bit, Good Luck! :)

    How about when you tilt the pen? I know at least for my huion Kamvas pro 12, when I tilt my pen at different angles and directions, the cursor will shoot away from the tip of my stylus. I'm really hoping that it's just something that happens with Huion's models because I recently got a replacement pro 12 with the same problem. However, if this is the industry standard, I might just stick to the screenless variety.

      I'm not sure if that's what you mean... but when I tilt the pen the brush (in-software mouse target) stays on the tip of the pen and not moving, but only do it's tilt function IF the software you're using supports it of course.
      BTW - I didn't try Huion yet so I can't really say or compare it.

      @@AlonDan Hey, thanks for the quick response! To clarify what I meant, I believe the video here shows exactly what I'm talking about: ua-cam.com/video/gGSDapMf4No/v-deo.html . If you can't click it for some reason, the video is called "XP-Pen ARTIST 15.6 Pro Review (2019 Model) 🖊" and the demonstration of the tilt offset starts at about 4:14. Again, thank you very much for taking the time to respond, it means a lot.

      Hi sorry for the late reply, I'm doing my best :)
      This video example make no sense to me, First of all the pen tilt is 60 Degrees... not 120-180 like shown in the video so of course it won't act as it should, it's not supported...
      Who in the world actually drawing like that?? this is weird for me, sorry but I must be honest.
      with all the respect to this person, I don't understand what is he trying to prove or show or break?
      As I said, I'm not a reviewer but one thing is sure, I worked with this product for about 3 weeks before I even share my experience with it.
      There was no issue for me with the tilt, I made the background you see on the video using it a lot in Krita and it was nice, it's not perfect but it's better than no-tilt for people who paint or sculpt digitally.
      Sorry if I can't really help in this, I don't understand what some reviewers are trying to show instead of actually test it on creating stuff, that's why I'm not a reviewer but an animator. ;)

      He's using Krita, it does art and animation in one app...oh yeah it's also FREE!!!!!!!!
      I love it, super easy to install. Lots of customizing options and does everything other apps do. The only thing that may throw you off, if you're used to another program, is that you might have to look up specific tools cause they aren't easy to find (but they are there) and a few of them are named differently. I honestly don't remember which ones exactly cause I already found them, but there are very few times this will happen anyway.
      A simple google search will work fine; "where is the warp tool in Krita?"
      Answer: it's in the Transform(Ctrl+T) > 'Tool Options' dock
      (Dockers are your on screen menus; Layers, Undo History, etc.)

    Is the screen a paper like matte feel or is it slippery? I like my display to have some tooth

    • @AlonDan
      @AlonDan  5 років тому +3

      To be honest it's hard to describe the exact feeling.
      It does have some amount of roughness feeling but at the same time it's smoother than paper and pencil since at the end of the day it's glass and digital pen with anti-static plastic nibs and not a paper and pencil.
      The good thing, it doesn't feel like stylus on smartphones (which I can't stand).
      The full illumination layer that installed over the screen gives the pen the some amount of roughness and also it is why it's not very reflective like I show when I remove the protection nylon, and of course it's saving from future scratches on the actual screen which is awesome!
      In my personal pinon it's great and I like it, but if you've never used a digital pen-display before.. don't expect it to feel like an actual paper because it won't, it's something you get used too while drawing, it will take you 2-3 minutes to forget it's a digital pen display and you'll probably get used to it. I hope that this information helps.

    Thank you so much, I was hoping there was a great review (like yours) on this new tablet already. I am trying to decide which XP-Pen to get (I have six in my cart right now lol) and this was high on my list, since it seems that you can replace the screen film/protector? I don't like the included stand, it doesn't tilt at an high enough angle for me, but I can easily buy a better stand.
    One question, did you have trouble with the drivers on Windows 10? I have read many reviews, where users state that XP-Pen and Windows 10 are really bad together. Also some other brand tablets install drivers, that make Windows think that you are using a touch panel from now on. It's a bit annoying, because the onscreen keyboard will pop up a lot e.g. on Windows login etc, and I hate that.

    • @AlonDan
      @AlonDan  5 років тому +4

      Hi There,
      Thank you for your kind words, I'm glad that this review helps.
      As I mention on the video, I never had any issues, from day 1 until this day everything works smooth.
      Just to be clear: I'm using XP-Pen's different models for about 3 years now and I never had issues with the drivers and windows 10.
      I don't know about this issue you describing because I never had any issue like this.
      My guess is that people install more then one touch/screen/tablet devices combine with the XP-Pen (or any other similar device) and that may cause confusion or clashes between drivers and windows 10.
      I must clarify that this is only my guess (as a past PC technician) but I can't say for sure because I never ran into these issues myself with any of the XP-Pen models running on Windows 10.
      I can't guarantee that it will work smooth on your machine or not because I only tested mine on my Laptop and Workstation PC and everything works 100% smooth for me, which makes me truly happy BTW, I wouldn't like to waste time fighting with installations, I rather use this time to be creative.
      What I suggest is to ask XP-Pen about this before you purchase a specific model while describe them your hardware / software just so you'll be sure.
      Also, if you're still need to decide what model to get, even if it's not a model I mention on my reviews, listen to my advice at the end of the video before you purchase ANY device, I wouldn't like you to invest your money on something you won't be happy with as I rather you and everyone else to smile and be creative. :)
      Sorry for the long reply, I hope this helps a bit.

    • @AlonDan
      @AlonDan  5 років тому +6

      Hi There, let me share my experience on this subject:
      After many years of using almost any Wacom Cintiq Device and XP-Pen model, I NEVER felt this "paper texture" it is always just another layer of matte or plastic to make the pen less smooth, but it is never feels like a paper.
      I'm not sure what you're looking for, but if you want a paper texture, use paper and scan your drawings, there is nothing like paper, if it's a non-screen tablet like wacom intuos, put a paper on it and draw over. (not that I recommend it, but if this is what you want give it a try).
      In person, I wouldn't like to have a rough paper-like texture to a glass it will slow me down, I'm after the smoothness but I understand and respect that every user is after a different experience.
      For the XP-Pen Artist 15.6 Pro the screen is full laminated so it doesn't feel like pure smooth glass, there is a texture feel to it but I wouldn't compare it to a paper texture.
      I hope this helps a little bit, have a good day! :)

    I thought fully-laminated screen meant there is no parallax. Isn't that the purpose of a fully-laminated screen?

    • @AlonDan
      @AlonDan  5 років тому +3

      Nope, it means the screen is fully laminated with extra layer that makes the actual screen/glass more matte (less reflective) more rough for drawing (less smooth) and most important: it save the screen from scratches that may cause during intensive use over the years from the nibs of the pen, mine have no single scratch and I'm using it a lot!
      It also means it's not a tape-like layer that you need to install manually like in other devices, it's fully laminate from surrounding out and in and it's the best that we, the consumers don't have to handle such mess.
      BTW - I don't know where did you hear about this imaginary technology with no parallax (for this date) maybe in the future when we won't draw over a glass screen, or a hologram or maybe lasers or... who knows what I'm not a scientist but an animator. ;)
