    Like her father once said
Love is not what you're given
It is how you decide to live
On the path you have chosen
So together we'll build a new world
    A better world
    We'll build a new world
    Our new world
I know you're scared and alone
But we will face this together
Through the innocence in your eyes
    They will live on forever
In their memory we'll build a new world
    A better world
    Our new world
    We'll build a new world
    A better world
    We'll build a new world
    Our new world
    Yeah together
    We'll build a new world
    A wondrous world
    Yeah
    We'll build a new world
    A bold new world

+buek14 Nothing can be done against illnesses.. I've heard that they're likely to play again there in November, I'm not sure though, I know it's been a great delusion, but you can't blame the band

    • @buek14
      @buek14 8 років тому +1

+robertolippi1 The organizers did not contact the fans in time, not even before 12 hours or so. Moreover they didn't even arrive to the city, which means it was obvious they won't make it and still, no SMS, nor e-mail, not any form of communication towards us. I have traveled 1200 kms there and back from Budapest to witness the show, money and time dropped to trash. Afterwards I was looking around, I found that 5 hours before the show would have started, a fan site in facebook shared the news about the cancellation... 2 hours before the show, Rudess put it on facebook too. Well, thanks... I'm not blaming LaBrie getting sick actually... But I could have appreciated something more than this. Show their face at least, play the show in instrumental, get LaBrie's parts from playback, jam something... or anything. Not just go by the city without letting us even know that.
For instance, Nightwish didn't cancel the show when the vocalist was taken to hospital few hours before the show, nor when a whole festival was cancelled, they did make it. Bands usually cancel the shows right, but they inform the fans in time...unlike this joke.

This song by itself might not be the best DT have ever done. But i LOVE how it fits into the album. The moment when the main riffs kicks in is one of the most uplifting ones in their recordings!

+sidenotes Totally agree. It's the glorious ending of the story and this song really gives it the finishing touch of epicness. It's an explosion of joy...and that riff is easily one of the better 'happy' riffs Petrucci has ever invented :p

    • @FlashheadX
      @FlashheadX 8 років тому

+sidenotes I don't think it fits into the album. Big showdown, Arhys dies, Gabriel can save Faythe just in time. And suddenly this cheesy rock song kicks in. I mean, it's supposed to be Gabriel, Faythe and Xander who are singing it and I can't help seeing them dancing happily around in circles like in a Disney movie as if nothing ever happened.

I was so happy (?) when I heard this on radio, really only a few in my area know DT and this is perfect way to introduce it to them. And it was quite funny to hear that solo on air when 99% of songs that have a solo are just pentatonic runs. Petrucci is a God

This is a great song. As a singer and guitarist who has studied and played for many years, I enjoy the more complex arrangements Dream Theater has written. But we all know people didn't love the Beatles for their complexity. They loved their songs because they were memorable, and made them hum them throughout their days making them feel better.

I've followed DT since '89 and have all they have produced. This Astonishing is aptly named. It IS astonishing! So well put together! In my humble opinion DT has matured even more since Mangini arrived. I still love Porntoy of course. The concept Petrucci and the rest of DT put together is a masterpiece musically, mechanically, including the engineering. For those saying they miss the "old DT" you can still hear it. It doesn't have to be LOUD to be appreciated! RELAX and enjoy the music!

If you watch the interviews they express how this concept came about. Certainly when I first listened I had to sit back and listen. It is indeed different. But if you listen closely they still have their particular complex prog sound. If you've ever been to a Cirque De Solei performance the music made me reminisce of those I've seen.

I’m not saying it’s a better feeling than any other dream theater song. I’m just saying, they have NEVER written a song with THIS specific feeling to it. Euphoric, soaring, with just a tinge of bittersweet melancholy. I️t just blows my mind that after 28 years they can still provide us with fresh and new ideas. Simply the greatest band in existence.

Can't wait to see DT an eleventh time in November when they come to Dallas.
This song makes my spirit soar. The Astonishing shows a band that is pushing themselves; the creative spark is still alive, and mike Mangini has reinvigorated them. Love love love this!

    "Our New World"
    Like her father once said
Love is not what you're given
It is how you decide to live
On the path you have chosen
So together we'll build a new world
    A better world
    We'll build a new world
    Our new world
I know you're scared and alone
But we will face this together
Through the innocence in your eyes
    They will live on forever
In their memory we'll build a new world
    A better world
    Our new world
    We'll build a new world
    A better world
    We'll build a new world
    Our new world
    Yeah together
    We'll build a new world
    A wondrous world
    Yeah
    We'll build a new world
    A bold new world

There is a big difference in making a piece with all the technique and professionalism,
and there is another dimension when you do something simpler and from the soul, enjoying what you are, what you do and who you are.

can't say i've changed or DT has changed but last night I was at their venue in Wiltern. 11 years being a fan and finally it was my time to see them. Wasn't what i expected, for 11 years DT has been always my way to disconnect from this world and get into myself but not last night....Couldn't feel the same without MP, it was just another band on stage😞 I hope i become a believer again and feel the same way i felt🙏🏻

Hey man! Nice to see a comment which doesn't hate on DT haha. In my opinion, they should make a new song developing the music of the end of DT (self titled album). Dunno if you've heard it, but after Illumination Theory ends, there comes a Rudess-Petrucci "easter-egg" and it's SO WONDERFUL. They should start a new album with that music and make a whole song

What with Lemmy, David Bowie, Prince, Keith Emerson, and now Nick Menza leaving us, not to mention hundreds of other musical legends this year, and with Rush retiring from touring, we will absolutely have to build a new world now. Music is dead, save for but a few bands left in the world, Dream Theater being among the very best of them. "The Astonishing" couldn't be more relevant today.
