The captain of the small boat coming in did a great job, sitting safely in a trough and matching the speed of the waves until it was safe to go faster.
While the Mom is a dumba$$ for doing that it's ultimately the captain's (Dad) responsibility.

Now, as far as this family goes... they are abysmal... the proper move is to stop the boat while the mom moves with the baby to a safer place... and put a f'in life jacket on the baby.
Should they be in jail? no... we are overcrowded as it is, and that would put another child into the system of failures. They should however be contacted by the local sheriffs office regarding boat procedure, and ticketed.

I can't understand why anyone under age of 18 wouldn't have a life jacket on. I would argue when traveling through the inlet everyone should have a life jacket on. Just crazy.

Thats about as clear a case of child endangerment as I can think of. And not only does the baby not have a life jacket on, neither does anyone else. I'd call this at least TWO counts of child endangerment for no life vests (not sure how many of those kids are under 6), and perhaps another for carrying the baby around while under way like that.
Agreed. To be honest, life jackets or not - that's the dumbest place to take your little ones out for a nice boat ride. What about a nice lake or river where there's lots of fauna to look at and a place to beach for a lunch. Instead the little ones and the slave wife must go along to satisfy "daddy's inflated testosterone" numbers.
Ceases to amaze me how negligent/complacent people can be. The water is not to be trifled with, I went overboard once because I was fooling around. It was only 6 foot swells. Ever since that day I have given the sea the respect she deserves.

Very scary to watch actually.. Marine Police should watch these videos. You can clearly see the boat registration number on the hull... send them a citation in the mail, like they do with traffic cameras.

I was in fear for that baby life, hoping the little one would not slip from the mothers arms. Who takes a baby out in dangerous water with no life jacket. How stupid can she be? Yes, child endangerment for sure. I hope law enforcement sees this film and gets arrested and fined for endangering this beautiful child's life. Great filming and editing.

In many countries - ex. most of Europe - what you see on your videos is seriously reprimanded with heavy fines: unsafe navigation, unadapted speed, boat surcharged, bad weight distribution on small boats, people on board in very dangerous positions, no life saving vests on small boats, evident alcool overdose, etc.
How can it be that there are so few serious accidents ? do they remain unpublished ?
I wonder how most of these boats can endure such heavy pounding ? How about structural integrity, bulkheads, engines beds, electronics receiving strong coup ?

On the subject of the boat structure, what these bone heads put their boats through is what a boat would go through in the *rare* instance the driver got caught in a storm - not deliberately putting the hull through that kind of abuse every weekend. Definitely more money than brains.

When I was a kid our rule was PFD on before boarding the boat.
Man, when I was a CG Boarding Officer I came across a similar situation. I immediately terminated their voyage and to them back to the dock. I think they also got a bill in the mail a few days later.
I would say yes, that is very much child endangerment. BIG FAT CITATION. I've never been to Haulover or Bocca or Jupiter, but having grown up around boats and been on Bellingham Bay and Puget Sound, some of these waves are VERY intimidating. And some of these supposed "Captains" are NOT Captain material.
