  • In this (longer than usual) LESSON PRIMER, we're delving deeply into SEQUENCES and SERIES. We start by looking recognisable series (triangle numbers, square numbers, the harmonic series, the fibonacci series etc...). We see how to write a Recursive Formula to generate the complete series (starting from the first term). After that, we learn how to form Direct Equations for: Arithmetic Series, Geometric Series and Polynomial Series. Finally, we look back a recursive formulae. We take a brief look at transformations and we consider when a recursive series is convergent - this is in readiness for later, when we'll tackle Iterative Methods to Solve Equations (that we cannot solve using direct methods).
    "LESSON PRIMERS" are designed to engage our pupils with the material before the lesson begins; setting the stage for deeper learning and discussion in the classroom.
