    Maico was always on top of the game. Their first monster was the 501. I dreamed of that bike. Test riders said in 4th gear it would do a 10ft tall rooster tale and make trenches like a tractor. No one made a 500 at the time (two stroke) then they come out with a 700. Again no other manufacturer makes one like this. I’m back to dreaming again

      The "real" Maico company disappeared in 1986. Till then they were "the" name in Motocross business in Germany.
      Everybody wanted one of those, the street legal ones were a pretty rare sight, though. I grew up half an hour away from were the factory was.
      I remember a guy, he was about 1.60m tall (~ 5'2") and he wasn't able to reach ground sitting on his mighty Maico.
      So at every stop he had to jump off the bike and mount it again to continue riding 🙂

      @donniebaker5984 10 місяців тому

      i noticed that 2 strokes of all kinds stopped smoking in 1977 the.year 100% synthetic smokeless 2 stroke oil was invented ..at that time Yamalub R was the best ever at 50 to 1 as this oil never made any deposits inside the engine anywhere ..the cylinder head was as clean as the day it was made and the piston same way as though it had never been installed of ran in an engine..the exhaust port no carbon deposits at all but polished shiny as the day i ported and polished it ..i had just bought a brand new 1977 YZ125 and the dealer told me "if you run this oil ill personally guarantee the motor for a month of motocross racing ...bel-ray 100% synthetic at 50 to 1 will leave a very small amount of carbon that easily comes off ..before this we were using Klotz at 50 to 1 that was used in 2 stroke go-karts that dont smoke but you have to drain in out of the tank carb and flush out the engine top to bottom every time you ride your bike or Klotz with eat up everything made out of steel ..watch some of the old footage of ABC wide world of sport when indoor supercross was born ..if it was not for smokeless synthetic 2 stroke oil ABC would not have had a show cause you would have never seen the bikes and all the spectators would have choked on regular petroleum oil when it burns ..and now i hear in you tube videos of stuff they call "spooge" that drips off the end of a 2 stroke stingers that the young no it all riders believe this is very bad tuning for a 2stroke but it is the results you want to see as smokeless oil condenses back to a liquid after the engine fires and leaves a greasy clear film that clings on to everything like STP and then eventually gets blown out the end of the pipe and looks nasty like cum thats why the noobs call it spooge ...lol dumb shits dont know anything

    I want to ride one of these so bad! Growing up riding 2 stroke then getting a new 05 yz450f at age 16....then back and forth from 2 strike to 4 from 05 till now. Havent owned a dirtbike for like 5 years now but ride road bikes and play on friends diet bikes a 4wheelers. I've rode a cr500 a bunch but never a 700 2 banger! Sounds pwrfext!

    Rip James I didn't have a chance to meet James but I was told he a good but he often would take on more than he could handle. Rip James.

    At 1980 we have in Berlin make an Cavalier-Start with Maico 490 vs Kawa1000 The 2 stroke one was in front like a rocket max speed 90kmh . Runs in Dirty Water and in Snow like a snow mobile

    Ive been lucky to have probably 50 hours ride time on a cr500 and i can say the big boars are more smoother power delivery they don't hit power band hard like a 250 two stroke does so don't be scared of them they are easier to ride. I would love to have a go on one of these 700cc bikes one day but they are so rare i don't think that will ever happen for me😭 may one day fingers crossed 😁

    I still own a 1980 RM 400. Rode a friend's CR500. Scared the s$#t out of me. Made my 400 seem tame.

    Love the way it efficiently relocated your neighbors yard. I hope he doesn’t make you put it back!🤣 Good luck James and welcome to the top of the food chain. Don’t let it bite you too hard…2 stroke open bikes are awesome machines, my advice is just keep it in 3rd all day and have some fun 😉

    It is amazing that we now have 700cc mx bikes, back in the 70s Husky built only 2 750 cc mx bikes for testing, cycle mag wrote the artical, the final results of testing, too much hp, and the only real complaint was, it chewed up the rear tire during one day of testing. I wish i would have saved that artical. Many people wanted one but NO.. Husky did not produced the bikes to sell. They only tested one of the bikes, where the other one ended up I never found out, needless to say back then a 750cc mx bike would have zero compitition. But it sure would have been fun.
