I think the best way to use bullet points is to have them in form of questions as if someone was interviewing you. Example: Instead of "Talk about scripting" I'd use: "What would be the most efficient way to script a video?". Do this with 3 to 5 questions about your main topic and it'll be easier on your brain to produce content on the fly.
What an excellent idea. I wonder if that works all the time though. But even if it doesn’t, I will definitely incorporate that into my bullets. Thanks for the tip!
Ali has, hands down, one been of the most valueable sources of knowledge for starting a UA-cam channel, business Building, [everyday/layman's] productivity (as opposed to the 'hyper optinized, time block every minute of my day' type of productivity), if not the best source, atleast for myself. And think is a close 2nd! Thanks to both of you and your teams!!! ❤ And im taking away the permission/recommendation to not script word for word; I wasn't going to before watching this but I kinda felt guilty for knowing I was not going to script word for word, now I can do as planned without the self-imposed guilt trip 😂
I saw this on my homepage, thought it was him till I looked at who posted, saved the video in my watch later, and then fell for the same trick all over again.
I actually don't have an issue with scripting videos when I work with ChatGPT and use my Elgato Teleprompter and Stream Deck Pedal, since the script is generated from my original notes and the generative AI quickly formats and edits it better.
Ali is so inspiring! I was lucky to be part of cohort 1 of his UA-cam academy and managed to grow my first channel to over 200k. He knows what he's talking about
There was some good simple advice in this video. I could solve the problem of not having to script my videos if I could outsource editing. My channel is not making money yet. I have ways to make money in place but those ways aren't making money yet. As far as the hook, I've started coming up with the hook last because I have to know what's gonna be in my video to use it in my hook. So I at least need to know my outline.
Great way to go about it! After I get my initial idea and find the best topic/title (like Ali showed), I like to make an outline of what I want to cover, that helps inform my hook as well as title and thumbnail!
I've just posted my first youtube video because of you and i'm so grateful for your help. I really hope it gets some views, but more than anything i found it so fun to make. Thank you Ali. For anyone else on the fence, just START!
I feel so much better! His editing point is what I've been wanting to do, and the script point is what I'm already doing, but was feeling guilty for it. Fun times ahead for my channel, thank you!
I’d love to “just press record.” But your boy gotta move the sofas, prop the lighting against the coffee table, Jimmy rig the mic into the old iPhone lighting port, close the blinds, grab the chair from the kitchen table… come on Sean, you know about that struggle 😂
I would highly encourage you to find a space in your house that you can dedicate to making the videos and have it setup so you can start filming in under three minutes.
I feel all of this gentlemen. However, my wife and I converted a room into our apartment into an office space for us to work on our businesses and channels.
I always love your content and have found it to be so helpful, but this one, being a bit shorter, has really helped me get started on UA-cam. Thank you!
I’m feeling positive as I’m implementing most of his advice. At the moment, I’m not quite confident in speaking while painting, so I’m focusing on explaining things through writing. Once I’ve managed to cover all my expenses, I’ll take care of the editing part😊 Thank you ❣️
Being a UA-camr is like running a business, you always need to give your viewers what they want. You can't become complacent at any moment. At the end of the day, toughest part is definitely starting your channel and growing it up to the point you become successful (and honestly if I haven't used a lot of Fame-ster, I would have quit a long time ago. It was a proper game-changer for me, and once you become successful it is a great tool to control algorithm).

Totally agree on the "not scripting word-for-word"!! I have an educational channel, and I only script the 1 or 2 sentence Hook. The rest of the body of the video is definitely just bullet points (mainly to teach things in a specific order, as well as to include certain "highlights" that I want to drive home). Great video showing video production timeline in a concise manner!
Just started learning & creating "more serious" video editing with Android phone about a week ago. Great video Ali! I spoke with a buddy of mine about the editing process; his time is everything. Hopefully, he takes what I said into consideration. I'm also in the same boat where I want to edit it but at the same time, I want to out source it.
This video is great! I just want to express that sometimes is difficult no to use a teleprompter when you are not speaking your mother language. Because you can struggle withbthe world and a video of 15 min can be turn in a boring one of 25min hahahahaha.... so, any advice?😅 Thank you so much guys for the excellent content in your channel!
It would be great to get advice for the DIY/craft/cooking/gardening/homesteading niche, which are not usually talking head studio shots. Having to get weird angles while not splashing the phone or dropping it in into the project is hard!! And then to be sure to capture all the crucial steps too. I do all the filming myself as getting someone to help is not an option. For me, editing is the EASY part!!
5:15 Now he tells us… 🙄😂 But seriously, folks - some people are talkers, others writers. I understand very well that's better to fine the title first... but my brain can't process like this. If I plan, I am just stuck... so, it's not the most effective, but I still improvise, and after I arrange the title and the description in a SEO way. Not the best, but it's better to do something, than being stuck ! I hope I say this because I am learning now, maybe when I will be really comfortable with making videos, maybe I'll be able to process it this way. But, I am 47, and it has always been like that, if I don't improvise, I am completely unhappy and doing things is painful. so... I do it my way, and let's see if it can function !
Spending 10hrs a week on editing 3:47 isn’t what everyone is having to do. Everyone’s video style is different and actually if it’s taking that long (for one video ?) then the planning stage needs to include how you minimise editing time.
My question is, is there a process of acquiring knowledge before making a BP recording? Or is it all a kind of improvisation with knowledge that you are already "expert" in?
Having started a few years ago I'm off and on and not very good yet. I look back at my old videos and they look 'crap'. Question! do I delete the older video?
I agree that outsourcing the video editing could be helpful. But as for scripting vs no scripting, it really depends on the type of video. If it's educational content and you're just sharing what you already inherently know, then sure. But if it's, say, a hotel review video, then that advice doesn't really hold because the info about the hotel doesn't intrinsically live in your head.
Multiple cameras, colour correcting audio enhancements. Plus the downside of bullet points rather than scripts is removing clunky transitions to the next point etc
Editing is the largest amount of time I spend on each week. I have an editor for my 2nd channel and it helps, except that his proofs come an hour before the video needs to be posted. This is problematic and I've tried to communicate to him the need for at least 24 hours. Please communicate with your editor and stay on top of them to meet expected deadlines.
I edit videos. i enjoy it. I have a degree from a university in Entertainment Media Production. What’s the best way to become a outsourced video editor?
Great points! I am having the hardest time though finding and hiring good and affordable editors. Fiverr and Upwork have given me so many flakes and/or workers who want ridiculous amounts. Is there a good video or piece of advice for youtubers specifically on how to hire editors? Like, literally, step by step, where, when and how.
Hey Sean! How about creating a video about the DO’S and DONT’S when scammers contact UA-cam Creators offering them a partnership collaboration? Or the PRO’s and CON’s spending tens of thousands of dollars on promoting videos through UA-cam ad promotions when NONE OF THE VIEWS count toward total watch hours needed for monetization…. these 2 topics should be covered with everyone here. thanks for the consideration. Shawn Price a.k.a. PricelessSpits
Wait, what? You're saying that if someone watches a video due to an ad promotion push, that video watch minutes do not count? I'm asking because that same person may watch a different video within your channel tomorrow but those minutes do count.
Did you use someone else’s video on your channel? I just started my own channel and wasn’t sure if this was allowed. Do you need to get permission first? On another note, I realized I need to start with a clear idea before creating content. I usually wait to see what I encounter and go from there. Looks like I have a lot to learn! 😂
