  • Here we go for another dose from the Dork Side. This video covers the models I have chosen for my US and German armoured units for Operation Avalanche in the Salerno vicinity, 1943. This will review and summarize some of the kits, decals and updates available from various manufacturers. There will be follow up videos on the construction and painting of each vehicle type; the M4 and M4A1 Sherman, the M-10 Tank Destroyer, the Panzer IV Ausf. G & H, and the Stug. III Ausf. G and StuH. 42.

I’m interested that you went with the Dragon kits. I’ve got a few but I got very frustrated with the short tracks. I also found the schurzen to be very fragile for gaming. They all look great painted though.

The tracks are a pain in the ass, for sure! I will show how I tackled that problem in the next video. I don't find the schurzen to be fragile at all, though. In fact, they seem pretty strong, as strong as the schurzen on the Victrix StuG III.

@ ah yes, I was thinking of the Pz IV schurzen which are Mildred on I think, but mare particularly the turret ones. I found that as soon as some ham fisted buffoon tried turning a turret they’d strip off. Not a problem with a StuG of course. I do like the idea of cannibalising parts though. Hadn’t thought of it and the Dragon kits are better suited since the wheels are separate.

"The Look is the thing." Well done! We are very similar in our tastes. Why did you go with 12mm (as opposed to 15mm)?

I do both. I use 15mm for Crossfire, which is a company-sized game and 12mm for 'O' Group, which is a battalion-sized game. The smaller scale keeps the congestion down on the table for bigger games.

I am curious as to why you dropped down from15mm to 12mm. And whether that has caused you to reconsidered your terrain collection too?

I'm still going to be working in 15mm. I just got distracted by shiny things! I first saw the Victrix 12mm figures a few years ago and decided to paint some up. I'll be working on some 12mm terrain for Italy and down the road there will be some tutorials on modifying resin terrain and making rubble. All the techniques can be used for various scales, though.

Hi, there, I am using my 12mm for 'O' Group and 15mm for Crossfire.
