    Love your channel! Oddly enough, I am a 78 year old GW rider and I do a lot of video editing too. I understand completely the time it takes to edit a good product...and your work is about the best on YT. Keep it up!

      Thank you very much. I come from 50 years of theatre background. First half as technician and then technical director and the second half as an instuctor. I started out in sound cutting tape and love the editing aspect of video work. Thanks for coming along.

    Hi Jim, Thanks for chronicling your journey both physical and mental. I'll be retiring next year when I turn 65, so I can start to plan and take longer trips with my '16 K1600GT. You are in inspiration to us older motorcycling riders! Thanks for your videos!

    Wow, sorry to hear of your accident. I have laid down a couple of bikes, and been very fortunate to walk away, as they say, safest vehicle on the road to the point of impact. I am a recent follower, started with your goldwing, then to your 1300, looking forward to following your ventures... Eric from Ontario.

      Accidents happen... fatigue got me. That was in July of 2023 so all the ST1300 videos were before that. I like my 106 Days on the Road in 2022. The goldwing was great this past summer. I did have a few accidents though. Editing lots of videos over the winter. Glad you found the channel.

    haha, talk about confusion - as soon as I saw the title I knew the reaction you were gonna get. Sometimes I wonder if the clips from the road are even worth it, considering all the confusion? Technically homeless? Welcome! Since 2015, my "home" has been a 32' metal tent, and I have very few regrets!

    • @OldGuyonaBike
      @OldGuyonaBike  Місяць тому +2

      I've been lucky to have a reasonably priced winter rental the past 3 years. Next year will be different. I may be looking for a metal tent and a place to park it. Yes, people get so confused even if I put dates in the video and explain as if they are 5. They do not undestand that a major Hollywood movie may take at least 2 years from first day of filming to release. Oh well... let the confusion reign.

    After seeing your car setup I realized that I saw you in NF I think it was around Dildo by the brewery. I remember thinking wow what a strange setup! My brother and I were on goldwings. Him on a F6B and me on a white 2020 goldwing. I’ll have to check my GoPro and see if I can find it. Glad to see you are enjoying the wing.

    • @OldGuyonaBike
      @OldGuyonaBike  Місяць тому +1

      I'm enjoying the wing a lot. The only time I was actually in Dildo was July 2022 when I was still hauling with the ST1300. I do hope to get back over this coming summer. I was in and out to St. John's a couple of times in 2023 when I was car camping in "Limbo".

    After the accident I would have gone back to wherever you had the station wagon parked and traded it in on a small pickup with a hitch. Then I would have proceeded back to Bangor and got the motorcycle into the pickup and towed the mini mate behind back to my sister’s house. Then I would have removed everything of value from the ST at my leisure and sell what will not transfer to my new motorcycle.
    As for sleeping on the ground in a tent, I would have gone to Canadian Tire and purchased a cot like Camping with Steve does on his many stealth camping exercises. Of course I would not have needed to use my old tent if I was towing the mini-mate behind my small pickup which I had purchased. I would then shop for a used motorcycle at the best price anywhere in Canada or the US and use this trip-adventure for more content. I realize all of my suggestions are too late because you are already making content with the new to you Goldwing.

    • @OldGuyonaBike
      @OldGuyonaBike  Місяць тому +1

      I don't think you have thought through the cost of those logistics. Do you know the distance between Bangor and Corner Brook, Newfoundland? Do you know the costs of the ferry? Do you know the daily costs of having a bike and trailer kept at a tow yard? Trading/selling a car to get a truck with a hitch does not happen overnight. I certainly was not going to buy a cot for the 4-5 nights I expected to be sleeping in the old tent. Traveling to find the best price on a motorcycle in either Canada or the US would have cost more than the bike. Have you dealt with customs and taxes importing a bike? I made the best decisions I could under the circumstances. My cheapest way to get back to Canada was the UHaul to my sister's. As I said in the video, I did not have a place to strip the bike back in Newfoundland. I was not going to dump the bike at my sister's and spent weeks trying to sell parts and still be left with a chassis and engine I would have to get rid of. The ST1300 is not a popular bike. Selling parts from one takes time. You have to look at the big picture and one makes up one's decisions. They might be painful decisions, but you make them and continue on.

    • @dwightsmith4641

      You got me. I keep forgetting Canada is expensive. I have been to Newfoundland with a motorcycle and a trailer, and made my way from Texas. I do remember L’Anse aux Meadows to St John’s was quite a ride, but I don’t remember the Corner Brook location. I just looked at ferry cost and it looks like it has doubled in cost since I was on it. The cabin fees now appear to be outrageous. I have now learned that importing from USA to Canada is 6.1% plus 100 for a/c and the vehicle can’t be newer than 15 years old. It is even worse for Canada to USA because the vehicle has to be 25 years old or older. The forms look like a nightmare. Custom proforma, Registration in advance, bill of lading, bill of sale, EPA form 3520, Dot Form HS-7 all required. Much better for you to buy your vehicles in Canada and me to buy mine in US. All my best to you.
