Jim, I find myself strangely and humbly honored that a Canadian would take the time to go to Gettysburg. While 1863 was long ago, it is still a wound to many of us. One of my proudest possessions is my great-great grandfather's Civil War diary. An Ohioan so a northerner of course. But to the point, our two countries are so similar and yet so different. A few years back I spent about six weeks reading Conrad Black's "History of Canada." 1200 pages I think. While Canada hasn't always been perfection, at least your countrymen never had anything like our Civil War. which in some ways, isn't yet over. And in the uniqueness and differences of Quebec, I find such acceptance that even with a different language and culture, the country is one. I'm one of the few of my nation who can sing "Oh Canada" and think it the most beautiful national anthem.
Richard, I am a big history buff. I'm always looking at how each country is intertwined with others at certain periods of time. Having a shared border makes that more important. Growing up in Liverpool, Nova Scotia, I was aware that there were houses still standing in town with slave rings (to attach chains to) in their attic spaces. The British government ablished slavery in Canada (not a sovereign country yet) in 1834. That root cause of the American Civil War always intrigued me. Many families in my home town were descendents of British Empire Loyalists who left during or after the War of Indendence. There were still close ties in the 1860's. Fortunes were made during the War of 1812 by ships sailing out of my home town acting as privateers capturing American ships... but ships from Liverpool also were taken by American ships. Men from Nova Scotia and Newfoundland fought for both the north and the south. Your civil war was a tragic conflict but also an intrigueing one with the changes in technology. I read somewhere that a few $50 walkie talkies could have changed the whole course of the war. It is sad indeed that in some ways the war goes on.
Jim, I always enjoy your video's, but this one was extra special because your ride took through the area that I live in. I always get a kick out of seeing my favorite moto-bloggers videos when they travel roads that I recognize. When you stayed at the Red Roof Inn at Mifflinville PA, you were only a few miles from my home. Too bad I didn't see your rig on the road, that would have been a real hoot! I can't recall if you have shared a 'new to you' bike purchase. The last thing I think I remember was that you were looking at used Goldwings. I look forward to future rides. Thank you for the all the trouble you go to putting these videos together. Ther really help me to live vicariously through your adventures, especially during the winter months. Tim
Tim, the editing is what keeps me sane during the winter while reliving my rides. I love it when people recognize their area in a video. Or a place they have been to. I've even had subscriobers tell me that they saw their bike as I passed them or gassed up. It's a small wondeerful biking world. I got tickled pink when I saw some of "onherbike"s videos of her time in Newfoundland. She stayed in some of the same campgrounds as I did and I just missed her in St. John's. I have a well cared for GL1500 waiting to be picked up on the other side of the island. It's 8 hours away and hope to trailer it here in the next few weeks. Weather has not co-operaated. I have 3 months of riding planned for this year.
Great footage Jim........If you do the four corners this coming summer you will have footage to make videos for 5yrs after the trip. Retirement making videos!!! Gotta love those seniors discounts.....
I just have to remember to ask for the discount lol, still don't picture myseof as senior or as really retired. Prepping the shop to teach a carpentry class tomorrow. Yes, I will have 2 years worth of editing after this summer!
And so the trip continues. Always good to see you out there exploring and enjoying your time on two wheels. Will be watching for your next vid. Hope you are not getting stuck in all that east coast snow!.
We haven't had it too bad here... still looking for a 3 day window of decent weather near a weekend to go fetch the Goldwing. Editing is as close as I get.
Good video buddy you are pointed in the right direction for home . Hope you guys are not getting hit to hard with the snow storm not like Cape Breton take care Jim be safe
I seem to go through there on my way north and home the last number of long trips. Havig friends there makes it a good place to stop. The ride from there into Vermont is enjoyable too.
I miss the ST but getting to edit videos with her still in them is great therapy. Still juggling time to get the Goldwing trailered over here.Weather has been a hinderance. Looking forward to adventures on her. Looks like at least touching Florida at the end of September.
Ah, the Rollahome is more similar to the Leesurelite than I thought, or actually vice versa as I think the Rollahome started manufacturing sooner. I'm working just outside of Gros Morne Nat'l Park and every time I drive up that hill I remember your trailer with rockets lol. That's still what convinced me to get a trailer.
Love it when someone recognizes a place I have gone through... think how random that can be, of all the thousand of motorcyclists watching videos and me editing a certain 40 second bit of video. It was a good but quick stop.
No, No.. this is my neck of the woods...Bloomsburg-Berwick area 😂. I saw that he was heading up Rt 15, and then saw a Weis Market. Funny what a thrill that is.
Right turns on red are allowed in all 50 states. You pretty much only need to pay attention to signs that say no right turn on red, and also a traffic light signal that shows a right arrow in red, which means no right turn on red. I believe NY City is the only major city where you can NOT make a right on red, unless there IS a sign posted, that says right turn on red IS allowed, but I doubt you will want to be riding your motorcycle in NY City. When I first moved to the U.S., I had the sane concerns, wondering where it might be prohited to make a right on red. I have no plans to drive in NY City, so I only need to pay attention to signs or red arrows in traffic lights 😊👍
Good to know and I plan on staying clear of New York City. Always leery as it was the only demerit I got when getting my motorcycle license 50+ years ago. In Nova Scotia where I was from it was not allowed and in Ontario where I was going to college, it had only been allowed for a couple of months. But now I know.
I would like to know which video or videos you posted of your travels in Alabama. I’m from Alabama (Anniston) and would like to watch what parts of ‘Bama you traveled. Most of the videos I’ve been able to find you’re in the northern states. Great videos btw.
Probably this one and the one after. Just was in Alabama again so there will be more riding there edited by.... March 2025??? ua-cam.com/video/dkWQmAY7CCw/v-deo.html
The new-to-me Goldwing is sitting in a heated garage on the other side of the island still. An 8 hour drive away. Getting trailer and weather coordinated has been problematic. Next possible time is in 2 weekends.
The new bike... a 1994 GL1500 in really good shape is waiting for me on the other side of the island. Weather has been preventing trailering it to me... hoping in the next two weeks. Canadian winter!
My go to, everyday bourbon is Jim Beam Black. Next tier up for me would be Elijah Craig and 1792 but that might be because I like the bottle. Occassionally I will get a George Dickel #8... it was used in the original Star Trek series for "Saurian Brandy". All in all, I recommend any bourbon that is in my cup. Next video I was given a bottle of Saxtons River Distillery, Brattleboro, VT small batch Maple Bourbon which was a sipping treat.
It may not have been a totally enjoyable ride on the interstate, but it's still better than a good day at work lol. Yeah, politics can sour friendships. We keep our political affiliation to ourselves. See you on the next one.
Yes, I do have a bad habit of leaving my feet down and I certainly don't mind you mentioning it. I notice it myself when I am editing videos and I make a concious effort to remember to pick them up quicker. Let's see how I do this coming season.
I thought the title of Slabbin' It might have warned some people. There are days on the road that are boring. I am mostly trying to create a record of my trips that I will want to look at in 10-15 years. It's great that so many people are coming along. New Hampshire and Vermont should be a little more interesting.

A treat to watch some bike stuff in February. Minus 41 here a few weeks ago . Looking forward to spring .
Editing is keeping me warm and sane. Got 3 more months before we'll be able to get out for at least some short rides here in Newfoundland.
New Hampshire and Vermont are beautiful with all the little creeks going thur the towns. Nice and relaxing.
I really enjoy riding through New Hampshire and Vermont. Especially as the leaves are turning.

Hasn't been bad here at all and the wind is keeping my driveway clear.
Hey! I live right north of Troy! 😁👍

Great video ! Sorry about the ST, I am looking forward to seeing the new to you Goldwing. Stay safe and see ya down the road. Florida, USA

Great video man, makes me want to hit the road with my Quick camp behind my wing.
Editing it also makes me want to hitch up and go. Too darn much snow. Planning to be on the road for 3 months starting in July.
Jim I really enjoyed this video along with your many others. I really want to go see Gettysburg some day.
I spent an hour in the main building and realized I need to dedicate a full day to being there. I will definately go back.
My guess is that the liquor store did not have Maple flavored Bourban!
Certainly didn't and if it did it would not hold a candle to the Saxton's.
That is the rollahome camper. Just like mine jim that I passed you with in newfoundland back in 2018. Mine had the rocket on it. Lol

Right turn on red is legal everywhere as long as there’s no sign up by the light stating “no turn on red.”
I got my license just as provinces and states started to enact this... so confused for years lol... well, still often confused.
