The show humanized them so well and they not only struggle with normal human things, but also things most of us could never fathom, that come with being a social media star at such a young age. I remember particularly seeing Dixie have a huge meltdown about millions of people essentially cyberbullying her and calling her ugly and constantly feeling like she was being watched, and she was only like 19 at the time. I used to envy them as a teenager, but now as I’m in my 20’s I genuinely feel bad for them. I cannot imagine going through some of my most formative and vulnerable years under a spotlight like that. Charlie’s fate is one of my worst fears. We all were posting silly videos as teenagers, no one expects those videos to blow up and then to be under such a microscope by millions of adults with no empathy.
She still did extremely well and was honestly blessed with her fate! Have a read about Rebecca Black's fate where she just did a sweet, silly, girly music video for fun with her friends without expecting or wanting anything and waking up the next day to the entire internet just going off on her and calling her every name in the book. She opened up about it not too long ago saying her mental health was such a disaster she was close to killing herself.
Sure she gets hate online, but she probably has more money than the average US salary would pay in a lifetime, so she can leave the internet and be worry free for life, sometimes I feel bad, but then I remember she will never face the real world problems that most of us do, I would absolutely take thousands of mean DMs from keyboard warriors if it meant I don’t have to eat spam or sleep in my car
@@burtreynolds8030i suppose charli is very happy with the wealth she was able to earn through social media but i don’t think she cares how much money is in her bank account when her mental health is declining and people are tearing her apart online. she’s young and internet hate to that degree was probably so toxic for her development.
The amount of grown adults in this video deliberately stirring controversy around a teenage girl thinking it's going to be their ticket to fame is crazy. I didn't know much about Charli D'Amelio before this but I have so much respect for her now. If 30 year olds online started harassing me for no good reason I would end up on the news.
Oh my god her dad's response to his 15 year old daughter's objectification on the internet makes me so mad and sad. Clearly the sign of a great parent🙄 It feels like as soon as she started getting public attention, her family just took Charli as a brand and something they could exploit. I can't confidently say that Charli even wanted this life, I think she speaks about feeling pressured to help provide funds for her family since they moved into a super nice house on her tik tok money. And they immediately labeled her tik tok "a family business", but it's just their kid doing dances on the internet. I'm happy for her if she likes the success, but to me she just comes across as a silly and incredibly anxious teenager and I'm really mad that everyone around her (not just her family) took her and made her into whatever they wanted her to be
people always forget the whole incident with peaches 😭😭 like when she said she was gonna get a man to assault charli and was harassing her online. it’s so sick
@@newwi6456there is this online “troll” (she’s awful) called lovelypeaches. sometime in july of 2021, she started harassing charli on her livestreams. she then started saying she was gonna send a man to come and assault her and then had the audacity to say charli was harassing HER. everyone was worried and was constantly commenting on Charli’s posts whenever something looked off.
I'm just so disgusted by their parents, imo the best way to support your publicly online children is to provide the most ordinary home so that they can have somewhere to come back to. The way they desperately tried to immediately monetize their teen kids gave me the ick.
Still softish remains the song I play to hype myself up before I take exams. and I don’t know ANYTHING about the drama I just like the evil feeling it gives me. motivating
My therapist had me uninstall tiktok and told me to stop listening to podcast abt war and stuff, but your content is always so lighthearted and imo approaches these ppl w kindness and its refreshing. Basically I feel like this would be therapist approved content so thanks for helping me not think all the time too girl
I'm sure your therapist wants the best for you but please don't stop informing yourself on what's happening I'm the world, it affects you and many others and it isn't the best thing to be ignorant to your surroundings + coming back to inform yourself after a long time is harder and more stressful
@rosefulmadness @Viteaification is right i am actually hyper aware of a lot of the problems in the world. what i was told and what i would recommend to you too honestly, and anyone who sees this, but ive tried to do stuff like avoid articles/videos with pictures, and for every podcast i listen to abt politcal whatever i also try and couple it with something lighthearted like ashleys video^^^ palestine should be free and we should all do what we can to support that cause but not at the expense of your own wellbeing. no good is being done by worrying and being scared, you have to take direct action, even if that is taking care of ursrlf yfm
Charli’s dad sucks. He sounds kinda abusive at times not taking his daughters seriously, off loading his trauma on to them. Profiting off of his daughters, but not really seeming grateful for it. I don’t know if therapy helped with that, but I really hope he gets his shit together
I remember watching a clip from their reality show and I think it was Dixie(?) crying because of negative comments and her dad just awkwardly sat next to her looking a mix of confused and bothered. No genuine empathy, no condolences, no "ok, let's take a social media break", NOTHING, just staring off like he's waiting for her to finish crying so he can stop looking like an "involved parent".
Also when their parents were having issues, he just loaded all of his emotional baggage and issues onto Dixie like she wasn’t a human too going through issues too
I remember the first time I heard about Charli D'Amelio was when someone made a TikTok dissing her and saying "Why is Charli charging $100+ for a meet and greet..." and I was confident they were talking about Charli XCX, so me, as a gay man, came to her defense and... it was a mistake. I was attacked, crucified in the comment section of a TikTok.
I remember him being everywhere exposing everyone’s dirty laundry in the early 2000’s when I was a kid/young teenager. It seemed like he disappeared for a bit and resurfaced again over the last few years. (Maybe he never went away and i just didn’t notice him anymore) Dude is VILE. I didn’t know anything about him or how terrible he was back then but he still gave me an uncomfortable feeling.
so anyone else genuinely impressed with Charli's maturity explaining how poor her mental health became due to these grown ass adults bullying her around when she hit 100 mil? honestly, girl seems to be pretty kind, compassionate, and able to take accountability.
I'm genuinely sad for her. She went from being a normal teenager to suddenly becoming the breadwinner for her family and parents who were quick to turn her into a cash cow. Couple that with going through teen cringe on an unforgiving national platform ready to bring people up so they can tear them down.... That forces anyone to either grow up or spiral downwards.
Honestly just the amount of adults thirsting and/or objectifying literal minors in general regardless of gender is way too common. It brings the booktok drama to mind when grown women were sexualizing a 16 year old boy and recommended sexually explicit books with dark and problematic themes to him just because he was a biker
@@MooMooMoonEE I remember when there’s was a brief period in TikTok where guys would comment “is it bubblegum pink”? Or “I bet it’s bubble gum pink” under videos of girls. Even elementary school girls. It was alluding to the color of their you-know-what. It’s so fucking gross.
This video cements two things for me: 1) family vlogs are abuse and should be illegal (because this whole thing went from "teenager gets famous" to "teenager's entire family is leeching off a teenager's fame and now she has to pay for her parents' livestyles" - also WHY are her parents in so many videos???? Do they not have their own lives outside of their teenage daughter's career?? If Charli or Dixie come out with a book like Jennette McCurdy's memoir I would not be surprised), and 2) Perez Hilton should be hunted for sport.
I feel like the difference between the D'Amelio's pretending to work at Walmart and Lana Del Rey at Waffle house is that Lana wasn't promoting anything or doing some kind of brand deal like the D'Amelio's were
@@Jsarmy87124I'm not a fan of Charli but comparing them to the Kardashians is just wrong. the Kardashians have scammed people, underpaid employees, lied about taxes, and so much more, where as Charli said and did a couple insensitive things
As someone who doesn’t use tiktok and barely is aware of Charli this deep dive is absolutely bonkers to me. All of her scandals besides the pandemic outings seem like such nothing burgers. And all the immense pressure she has on her shoulders over short dance videos is nuts.
the whole charli assuming the charli xcx tag was for her, was really because her fans actually did start posting on the hashtag because they first assumed it was about charli. so she wasn't technically wrong? i think she just didn't realize her fans took over someone elses hashtag about something so serious
That’s what stopped me being a hater of hers. I wasn’t exactly a hater, but I was on that train of “what’s all the hype about”. It was an honest mistake, and the way people made her out to be some evil villain for making that mistake… in the end I still wasn’t a fan but I realized that huge hate train she had was for no reason at all.
I find it crazy how a teenager went from being fairly unknown one day to the most followed person on the App the next. The whole world was watching and following the lives of not just Charli but that whole group of teenagers. It was a literal real life drama. Can you imagine going through your teenage years with millions of people watching you and having them point out every single mistake you made? Her whole life was up for discussion, even her first relationship got exploited for views. There is no way I could’ve exploited my teenage daughter the way Charli was by her own parents, and the fact they were more concerned with making money off the back of Charli’s sudden rise to fame they forgot to be parents. Her dad especially was all about the money, which is so sad.
I’ve always had a soft spot for charli bc she is so young and seems sweet. She was incredible on dancing with the stars and I hope she does more dance related things in the future because that’s where she shines.
i normally dont defend lana del ray, but from what ive heard lana del ray was asked to put on the vest by an employee that worked there and then they were the ones who took the video of her pretending to work, idk the workers being in on it makes a bug difference to me
I think it’s worth noting that after the whole dinner video thing there was an interview I saw with the chef who prepared the meal. They asked him what he thought and apparently he’s their “regular” personal chef and has a good relationship with the D’amelio family. He said that he purposely made food that he knew the girls wouldn’t like because he knew it would be good content. I’m pretty sure the parents were in on it too and agreed it would be a funny idea.
Oooh man, now i would love to see a video on Nessa Barrett. You've become my go to for these celeb/influencer deep dives, you're always so respectful about everything you cover and I appreciate that. Also holy shit, that video of Perez made me viscerally angry

something about ashleys videos just hit. always. right when i think i know what im getting next she pulls out something else crazy yet its somehow better.
I find it despicable that her parents continue to exploit both of them, not just financially but also emotionally, especially by approving a reality TV show where their lowest and most vulnerable moments are broadcast for people to pick apart
I literally haven’t heard anything about her in yearrs. they were a very good years. And honestly, I think staying out of the public eye is good for her too. The documentary done on their family was very depressing - I do hope she’s okay tbh & I hope she sticks to dancing because she is incredibly talented.
she took it so seriously too like to me it reads very genuinely. which is even sadder to me like this poor girl is trying so hard to be as kind as possible and no one will give her a break. she's literally just making dancing videos. poor kid
God, I remember when I went to school with the D'Ameilo sisters. Their parents always found ways to put them in the center of it all. In middle school we were having a schoolwide meeting for MLK Day, and they pulled Charli from ELEMENTARY SCHOOL to have her show up and dance for the school as Dixie sang 'This girl is on fire'. No one else had a lined up performance. Just them. What did it have to do with MLK Day? I'll never know 💀
I was in the same graduating class as Dixie, but it's not like we spoke to one another. Just your typical 'I knew a famous person before they were famous' story 😂
I appreciate the empathy you demonstrated throughout the video - I think celebrity is incredibly complex and I hate when people are just like “they chose this!!!! I don’t feel bad for them!!!” It’s like….. ummmmm they still feel the same emotions, anxiety, etc that any other human does. Of course celebs should get called out when they act poorly, but I also still feel bad for them at the same time. She’s just a kid 😓
i’m astounded at the backlash to charli’s comment about wishing she could hit the follower milestones exactly a year apart… it just seems like the most willful misconstruing of an offhanded comment like “oh that would be kinda fun” the interesting thing though is that in this case, the number of followers she lost may not be a good indication of how many people were mad! some people may have been legit trying to slow down her growth to make her hit 100mil later
i saw Dixie at the BTR concert in Chicago and she literally sang like 2 songs and then ran off the stage to throw up and never came back. a ton of teen girls were super upset and sad because they only came to see her
trisha was such an evil toad for calling dixie “mentally challenged” or something like that. especially since she had admitted to have seizures. i also feel like charli took the brunt of her management’s choices when she was just a kid in high school. she seemed so meek and young looking back on it and it’s sad that she got so much hate her way for literally just being a teen.
New drinking game: Drink everytime Ashley mentioned and/or had to explain a terminology that only makes sense in modern internet culture, specifically Tiktok. Imagine someone's grandparents watching this not knowing what the heck are e-boy, alt tiktok, the hype house or even team 10.
That clip where he was celebrating people paying attention to him on the internet was one of the closest things I've seen to a genuinely maniacal laugh I've ever heard in real life.
He's a shitty person, but in this case he was right. The song Charli was dancing to on the beach, and even the Renegade song, are adult songs and were extremely inappropriate.
i will never hate charli. i was on tiktok ever since it was musically and i followed charli in 2019 when she started to become popular. she was literally 15 when she blew up. she had to grow up so fast and had so much pressure on her within 2020/2021 bc of her success. she was basically still a child in the beginning. i remember her posting a new dance atleast once a day- my girl was not taking any time off she was working every day while doing online school at 15-
This vid made me so sad lowkey, the way that ppl take every opportunity possible to break this kid down for no reason. Like most of these 'scandal' you've talked abt R not even anything bad yet she was getting death threats and cyber bullied for it. It's also funny how ppl would not even bat an eye if someone else did this but soon as it's charli a literal teenager it's suddenly the end of the world. I do feel like she's a sweet girl just tryna have fun and live her life
the way i live for these videos,,, i really enjoy seeing chronological breakdowns/recaps of things like this bc while i love drama and shit like that, it can be so hard to rlly understand the full picture as it's happening! also most of the time as it's happening i feel so over it and tired of ppl being dumb, and then these videos have such a levelheaded and empathetic view. it's like a breath of fresh air. thank you for all the awesome content, and I'm looking forward to more when it's ready 😊
dude I am so happy you brought up the furry wars on tiktok, I remember watching those with my roommate freshman year. I deleted tiktok and a few years later saw how big the app got and figured "i guess the normies won"
I haven’t even watched this yet, nor do I even leave comments on videos anymore, but I just HAVE to say how much I love your videos. You’re incredibly charming, likable, and witty. I extremely look forward to your new uploads, especially since I’m almost done binging your content. Thank you for these videos and the amount of time and effort you put into them does NOT go unappreciated or unnoticed. ❤
I really like the way Drew Gooden put it: in the past, you had to work to get famous. you'd get rejected from millions of auditions before getting recognized. you honed your talent and by the time you were big, you knew what you were doing and you deserved it. now, you get famous off of nothing and have to try and discover your talent while your audience watches. charli and dixie didnt know what talent they had to show off, so they did everything without doing anything.
I love her she seems like such a sweetheart. She was so young when she first got famous which must be so overwhelming at 15 and then rise quickly to the top. Let's not forget the fact that she's INSANELY talented especially when I saw her in dwts. Kudos to her and her family. Hope she stays true to herself cuz she's so sweet and down to earth
All i know is she stole a dance move that wasn't hers and was forced to acknowledge the real inventor of the dance Jalia Hamon, after making tons of money from a dance that wasn't her. Its like counterfeiting a Picasso and selling it for millions. If i did that in Europe I'll be imprisoned straight away.
I get that she’s a rich teenager but seeing her say “I was supposed to die but I posted a dance video instead” is so sad and dystopian, if I had her life as a 16 year old I would have spontaneously combusted with all that pressure.
I honestly really respect Charli for how much shit she has probably gone through as well as how successful she is. I didn't like her until I watched their show and then I became a fan. Also, she was on DWTS and WON which was SO deserved and just made so much sense. Charli literally gets hate for BREATHING and it makes me so upset because she seems like such a genuine person.
i love these videos but no one ever brings up alex french, when charli was getting comments like "i don't get the hype" people were actively comparing both of them and taking about who will get the most followers, both their comments were absolutely flooded.
really awesome how respectfully you covered all of this, while still providing necessary criticism. I've actually been active on tiktok for the past 4 years and never really came by de D'Amelios and am so fascinated by that. Your video really gave me a nice overview

It feels like as soon as she started getting public attention, her family just took Charli as a brand and something they could exploit. I can't confidently say that Charli even wanted this life, I think she speaks about feeling pressured to help provide funds for her family since they moved into a super nice house on her tik tok money. And they immediately labeled her tik tok "a family business", but it's just their kid doing dances on the internet. I'm happy for her if she likes the success, but to me she just comes across as a silly and incredibly anxious teenager and I'm really mad that everyone around her (not just her family) took her and made her into whatever they wanted her to be
women/girls, imagine your own dad doing this… sends shivers down my spine 😭 MY DAD WOULD NEVER

people always forget the whole incident with peaches 😭😭 like when she said she was gonna get a man to assault charli and was harassing her online. it’s so sick
Explain pls, I don’t know anything about the d'amelios
@@newwi6456there is this online “troll” (she’s awful) called lovelypeaches. sometime in july of 2021, she started harassing charli on her livestreams. she then started saying she was gonna send a man to come and assault her and then had the audacity to say charli was harassing HER. everyone was worried and was constantly commenting on Charli’s posts whenever something looked off.
@@dreamypriorities thank you sm for filling me in! What a disgusting thing to do😖
YES I FORGOT ABOUT THIS
I DONT WANNA REMEMBER THAT 😭
I'm just so disgusted by their parents, imo the best way to support your publicly online children is to provide the most ordinary home so that they can have somewhere to come back to. The way they desperately tried to immediately monetize their teen kids gave me the ick.
Like no wonder they’re stressed 😭I couldn’t imagine being like basically the breadwinner of the family and in public spot all at once
Her fame wasn't going to last forever, and they knew that. You must strike while the iron is hot.
Crazy thing to think about your CHILD. You should not be replying on your children for money if you already have a stable lifestyle
Still softish remains the song I play to hype myself up before I take exams. and I don’t know ANYTHING about the drama I just like the evil feeling it gives me. motivating
As someone who exclusively listens to the lonely island to revise that is so real
@@rosefulmadness i think on this case, it really is bad for their mental health. taking in dark information 24/7 is bad for certain people
@rosefulmadness @Viteaification is right i am actually hyper aware of a lot of the problems in the world. what i was told and what i would recommend to you too honestly, and anyone who sees this, but ive tried to do stuff like avoid articles/videos with pictures, and for every podcast i listen to abt politcal whatever i also try and couple it with something lighthearted like ashleys video^^^ palestine should be free and we should all do what we can to support that cause but not at the expense of your own wellbeing. no good is being done by worrying and being scared, you have to take direct action, even if that is taking care of ursrlf yfm
Charli’s dad sucks. He sounds kinda abusive at times not taking his daughters seriously, off loading his trauma on to them. Profiting off of his daughters, but not really seeming grateful for it.
I don’t know if therapy helped with that, but I really hope he gets his shit together
that “you’re welcome” clip made my skin crawl
the same man that was speeding whilst a young charli was in the car
LMAOOOO this is so funny 😭😭

God Perez Hilton is so deeply unpleasant

In every way 🤢
Some things just never change
The unhinged male thirsting has certainly not stopped in any capacity on that app
Honestly just the amount of adults thirsting and/or objectifying literal minors in general regardless of gender is way too common. It brings the booktok drama to mind when grown women were sexualizing a 16 year old boy and recommended sexually explicit books with dark and problematic themes to him just because he was a biker
The dad's tik tok almost made me threw up
@@MooMooMoonEE I remember when there’s was a brief period in TikTok where guys would comment “is it bubblegum pink”? Or “I bet it’s bubble gum pink” under videos of girls. Even elementary school girls. It was alluding to the color of their you-know-what. It’s so fucking gross.
@@parkchimmin7913 it’s always a “joke” if it makes another man laugh. Social media is fucked.
I feel like the difference between the D'Amelio's pretending to work at Walmart and Lana Del Rey at Waffle house is that Lana wasn't promoting anything or doing some kind of brand deal like the D'Amelio's were
and lana wasn't paid to be there either like she was just there 😭
@nirvattea7037 yeah lana is just doing random ass shit, she always has and always will

As someone who doesn’t use tiktok and barely is aware of Charli this deep dive is absolutely bonkers to me. All of her scandals besides the pandemic outings seem like such nothing burgers. And all the immense pressure she has on her shoulders over short dance videos is nuts.
the whole charli assuming the charli xcx tag was for her, was really because her fans actually did start posting on the hashtag because they first assumed it was about charli. so she wasn't technically wrong? i think she just didn't realize her fans took over someone elses hashtag about something so serious
but the optics are of course awfulllll
Yes same!!! She is such a phenomenal dancer fr
SAMEE they could never make me hate her
i normally dont defend lana del ray, but from what ive heard lana del ray was asked to put on the vest by an employee that worked there and then they were the ones who took the video of her pretending to work, idk the workers being in on it makes a bug difference to me
Yeah and I believe she did used to work there? (Don’t quote me on that 😂)
what did Lana del Rey do?
I think it’s worth noting that after the whole dinner video thing there was an interview I saw with the chef who prepared the meal. They asked him what he thought and apparently he’s their “regular” personal chef and has a good relationship with the D’amelio family. He said that he purposely made food that he knew the girls wouldn’t like because he knew it would be good content. I’m pretty sure the parents were in on it too and agreed it would be a funny idea.
i really admire the way you recount drama without being tabloidy about it.
Oooh man, now i would love to see a video on Nessa Barrett. You've become my go to for these celeb/influencer deep dives, you're always so respectful about everything you cover and I appreciate that.
Also holy shit, that video of Perez made me viscerally angry

38:30 honestly this REALLY reminds me of how dramatic everyone on the internet was back in 2020-2021, it was actually insane to be apart of lmao
The FACT that I can quote that Zoe video (that I haven't seen in years) with accuracy scares me
Charlis apology to the cosplay community always gets me like how fking silly 😂😂😂
she took it so seriously too like to me it reads very genuinely. which is even sadder to me like this poor girl is trying so hard to be as kind as possible and no one will give her a break. she's literally just making dancing videos. poor kid
you always come in EXACTLY when i need a new video like this
"In december of 2019 charli joined the white house- sorry i mean the hype house" THE SCREAM I JUST SCRUMPT 😭😭
Did you go to King 😭
This is so weird lmao
“she’s everything, he’s… a racist” is killing me
I appreciate the empathy you demonstrated throughout the video - I think celebrity is incredibly complex and I hate when people are just like “they chose this!!!! I don’t feel bad for them!!!” It’s like….. ummmmm they still feel the same emotions, anxiety, etc that any other human does. Of course celebs should get called out when they act poorly, but I also still feel bad for them at the same time. She’s just a kid 😓
Ashely forever educating me on pop culture (I literally don’t understand it whatsoever)
Not related to this video but I feel like a deep dive on Fifth Harmony and why they were so messy from you would genuinely solve all my problems 😭😭
you're so real for posting an hour long video essay when I have homework
i’m astounded at the backlash to charli’s comment about wishing she could hit the follower milestones exactly a year apart… it just seems like the most willful misconstruing of an offhanded comment like “oh that would be kinda fun” the interesting thing though is that in this case, the number of followers she lost may not be a good indication of how many people were mad! some people may have been legit trying to slow down her growth to make her hit 100mil later
Once again I'm about to learn way too much about a subject i care nothing about. I'm excited!!!

trisha was such an evil toad for calling dixie “mentally challenged” or something like that. especially since she had admitted to have seizures. i also feel like charli took the brunt of her management’s choices when she was just a kid in high school. she seemed so meek and young looking back on it and it’s sad that she got so much hate her way for literally just being a teen.

I really like the way Drew Gooden put it: in the past, you had to work to get famous. you'd get rejected from millions of auditions before getting recognized. you honed your talent and by the time you were big, you knew what you were doing and you deserved it. now, you get famous off of nothing and have to try and discover your talent while your audience watches. charli and dixie didnt know what talent they had to show off, so they did everything without doing anything.
listening to perez hilton talk makes my skin crawl and i want him to know that
You just know he’s watching too
it would be really cool to see a deep dive of brigit mendler’s career. child/teen tv star -> doctorate in philosophy from MIT
Literally the first thing in the video
I get that she’s a rich teenager but seeing her say “I was supposed to die but I posted a dance video instead” is so sad and dystopian, if I had her life as a 16 year old I would have spontaneously combusted with all that pressure.
I didn’t need to see that still of Perez Hilton three times 😭
LETS GOOOOOO ASHLEY NORTON UPLOAD

I honestly really respect Charli for how much shit she has probably gone through as well as how successful she is. I didn't like her until I watched their show and then I became a fan. Also, she was on DWTS and WON which was SO deserved and just made so much sense.
Charli literally gets hate for BREATHING and it makes me so upset because she seems like such a genuine person.
i love these videos but no one ever brings up alex french, when charli was getting comments like "i don't get the hype" people were actively comparing both of them and taking about who will get the most followers, both their comments were absolutely flooded.
This was so well done!! I love your commentary so much too. You NEED to do one on Addison Rae!! her family drama is (unfortunately) really messy.
