    First time I've seen Marco, but I really like this guy. I like that his thoughts were not hyperbolic at all but well grounded. The fact he also thought the Vive Pro 2 was expensive trash gave him credibility in my eyes too. I spent a fortune on that headset and felt legitimately robbed of my money so the fact he called HTC out on that means I'll definitely check out his channel, providing it has English subtitles at least! I like these discussion type videos Sebastion, more please!

      I have the Vive Pro 2 and think it's the best headset on the market (Varjo 3 not on the market). Why are you right? I think from everything I've read, ppl with glasses struggle with VP2.

    • @kevinbrook7033
      @kevinbrook7033 3 роки тому +2

      @@BB-qp5xo Well, our eyes, headshape and experiences are different so it's always going to be subjective I guess. Like a size 9 shoe might be too large for me, but too small for somebody else. All I can say is that the experience for me was very bad. I hate godrays and glare more than I want a wide FOV, and I couldn't get the binocular alignment correct, so the headset always looked a bit off for me. The other major issue I had was the heat of the display. After an hour of use it got so hot I was worried it would be a fire risk if I left it plugged in and switched on overnight.
      If I didn't suffer the alignment issues and have a ridiculously hot display then I'd have liked it a lot more. Therefore, if you don't have those issues, I could see why you would like it more than I did. I sent mine back however and got a Reverb G2, which I'm really pleased with. I mostly play Microsoft Flight Simulator so the base stations and Index Controllers weren't of much use to me.

I have no buzz (or at least unnoticable), ok heat (again not noticable), fits perfectly with my eyes really close with the 6mm face cover and I get tethered massive reolution and wireless very very good resolution so yeah, very happy. Must be different headset quality and different shaped heads. What are the vertical scan line he is talking about with VP2? It's like I got a different headset to Marco?????

      @@BB-qp5xo I've used three Pro 2: Mine, Sebastians press sample and Sebastians own device. Every device was the same. Always buzzing headphones and always this lenses... I did not send the Pro 2 back because the VR Optician lenses changes how I can look through the lenses. VR Optician corrected this problem with the lenses, he is aware of it and he can not understand how HTC could even make this lenses. @@BB-qp5xo I saw some people complain about them on reddit when I had my VP2 but I never saw them personally. My biggest issue was the stereo overlap was so small the image was always on the verge of splitting in two. If I looked left or right with my eyes I could see lens images rather than one. It made it unusable for me. If I didn't have that issue it would have been a lot more appealing. The colours are really nice.

    I have watched this channel a few times before this but the two of you in this video have created a whole new level in analyzing vr hardware. I have seen many but never as clear and informing as this. Detailed! And humorous without trying.
    Any language barriers are a plus because they slow down the analysis and make every point clear. I don’t own a vr headset but I have followed many channels because I am very interested in investing in one. The hyper presentations that exist on most channels are not a help. The pacing and rhythm here is the best. And the gold is in the details. Don’t stop!!! Good team!!!

    'The lenses are more important than display' - Marco. This quote is so rarely discussed but absolutely true. This was why I felt the Oculus Quest 2 was a better visual experience overall than the Vive Pro 2. The best display means nothing if the lenses are full of godrays and glare, and the stereo overlap is so poor that the image gets blurry and distorted.

      Yeah we are finally in the spot that improvements in the display panels are minute, we are at the point of diminishing returns in that area. Next, those frenel lenses HAVE to go and we should not accept them in future headsets. They may have been a slight improvement in weight and lack of pupil swim over the aspheric lenses but the downsides are so massive that it is not worth the trade off, they should not have been ever used and I am glad PSVR (which was my first experience with VR in one convention) did not use them as my first impressions would have been worse.
      After lenses the next problem to tackle is FOV, without Pimax distortions.

    When you talk about the distortion in the peripheral of the headset (pupil swim) such as when you discuss the circle becoming bit oval. It would seem that they could easily remap the display to alleviate this. Do they not do this so they don't lose resolution or FOV or does it seem there is another reason? Is it a symptom of stretching the FOV with the lenses?
    Edit; apologies. I commented before I got to the end of the video. I hope the new lens profile will solve the pupil swim problem.

    Very informative, I like the format. Dry and logical German critique is helpful too - even to a Swede like me :) No audio is crazy unless you are only interested in niche visualization markets. Business users in general need high quality audio in VR if you are providing a communication tool - which in my opinion, as a business user, VR is. Even automotive and airplane designers can benefit greatly from collaboration in real time, sometimes across the globe. Try that without audio :) So, if Varjo only wants to sell to visual designers who isolate themselves in 3d space, that's good, but if they want to be a communications tool provider they must have audio. Unfortunately Finnish people are famous for their stubbornness, so I suspect I am not going to convince them :)

I would be really curious to know if there are any optical artifacts at the interface between the "focus area" display and the peripheral display. I am assuming there is a mirror in front of the LCD to reflect the uOLED "focus area". Do you guys notice any seams? However, I have heard others say there is still some VERY fine SDE on the context displays & also that the focus display (FD) is noticeable when on, due to it giving off a brighter, almost yellow like tinge/tint to that area of the image. I feel like this would be pretty distracting. But yes, I agree the FD is basically pointless in a consumer headset anyway. Hopefully Varjo create an option to force it off for current owners, if they wish. And yeah, if only NVLINK was supported in apps for us VR users, which is why I typically don't even mention it haha. Marco. If you feel crosseyed in the 8kx, I found a solution which solves it completely. Place a vive controller about 2,5 meters away. You need to correct horizontal offset so that the real controller line up with the virtual controller for each eye. My left eye was showing the virtual controller far to the right of the real controller when lifting up the headset to compare. Once the left eye was corrected by horizontal offset, no more eye strain in 8kx ever again.

Everyone's head and face shape is different. Tracking is horrible for the G2 and controllers lack feedback unless your into loud weak buzzes instead of true feedback. Reverb G2 can have many of its pitfalls fixed if u buy second hand lighthouses and index controllers to pair with it. Considering how cheap the G2 is compared to an index that's not an absurd reccomendation. Quest 2 is also just pretty fantastic for the price. I reccomend the Quest 2 even though I hate Facebook. If you find the vr-3 cost extortionate (which of course most consumers will think it is), just get the pimax 8kx now.. it's the only future proofed hmd (where you can get more clarity, more fov, higher refresh rate etc over time as software optimizes and pc hardware is upgraded) .. the up to 200° fov and outstanding clarity/ big sweet spot/ zero sde *combined* and *overall* highly immersive experience can't be beat for 99% of applications it's used with (it's very rare where you can't read something in vr as the clarity is more than enough for almost all applications).. nothing comes close.. not even the vr-3 that costs more than 4x the 8kx cost can compete with the 8kx fov and will never get a bigger one in the future.. when you add the amazing fsr mod github.com/fholger/openvr_fsr that significantly increases clarity with sharpening and boosts fps for free, the image in the 8kx is tack sharp yet the immersion and situational awareness gained from the unparalleled fov is undeniable.. after all ultimately 'clarity' alone isn't the only or necessarily the most important factor for vr.. there are many other factors that need considering but ultimately you want to be optimally *immersed* and when you're in the moment fully immersed, with most vr games you aren't pixel peeping at all.. if all you focus on is the ultimate clarity known to man (which the vr-3 obviously has) you're going to miss out on many other factors.. it doesn't even come with an audio solution, let alone only having a limited binocular fov which in turn limits immersion- don't underestimate how much having a fov nearest to real human eye fov (that the 8kx has) significantly increases immersion in big way.. you can also easily match or surpass the g2 ppd with the 8kx simply by increasing the steam resolution moderately above 100% anyway.. until human eye resolution becomes more mainstream in price and it comes with up to 200° fov (which is years away at this point), the 8kx gives you far more bang for your buck now with a truly next gen experience now..
