    I have had people break in. Pumping a shotgun did not stop them from coming in, nor did it stop them from shooting at me. I leave a round in the chamber now, because pumping does not stop someone who comes in your home with a gun.

    I have an over and under. I keep both barrels stocked, with a shell holder in the nightstand. Still, I have to defeat the safety before it goes bang. It’s also in a discreet location I can reach quickly. With a pump or semi, I’d agree that in the tube is absolutely best. Great video!

    Keeping a loud verbal dialogue (yelling if you have to) with you're family members is key. Intruders already know there's people in the house. They even maybe studied the home and know the layout. Verbal Communication is key to identify you're family members...

    I don't want to scare someone off or give up my position, I keep a round in and dead men tell no tales (my lawyer even said its better to have a dead intruder than a live one in the hospital)....but i'm controlled in a situation after my time in personal security where threat assessment was a continuous job even on break, I don't just shoot at a noise. We don't get people just breaking in where I am though, we have gangs come in from a sister city so they're already armed and ready to do what they wanna do.

      Ish's Tactical Solutions racking a shotgun is not an international sound people that brake in to house most likely do not know what that sounds is. the reason you shouldn't have a round in the chamber is because most shotguns are not drop safety. and if it falls ove it could go off.

    I fully agree. I was keeping it in my closet because I wanted to make sure I was wide awake before I pointed that shotgun. I also tend to have sleep terrors ... mostly I wake in a half dream state once in a blue moon if I am too tired. I do keep mine cruiser ready. Mostly because they are also not drop safe. I wish I could trust myself enough to keep it bedside.

    I never thought of it like that. By creating an extra step (chambering a round), it really would create a higher sense of alertness. At least for me, knowing I'm "hot" takes my mental state to the next level. i've always had that debate even with my handgun. To each their own and each persons skill level and preference will ultimately determine what choice they make.

    Thank you! Great video. I was leaning strongly towards doing it that way anyway for similar reasons but it's good to hear someone sensible make a case for it now I feel more confident in my decision. I also plan to buy my mom a youth 20ga pump and hoping if she is ever confronted with a threat that the gun will be an effective intimidator and she will not be advanced on. She has suspected someone snooping around a few times outside and is afraid. This shotgun will give her a very intimidating voice when her own voice is not scary in the least. I would bet if someone is snooping around, maybe planning a home invasion and hear that, they might think twice. She did use to do competition skeet shooting so they have plenty of reason to be afraid, I just want the potential intruder to know that without finding out the hard way and hopefully avoiding a dangerous up close confrontation.

    First and foremost great video but I would disagree with the universal sound of racking a round in the chamber. I personally keep mine locked cocked and ready to rock. This is a great video but in my opinion with my 10+ years in military service I do not like giving my position away or what I'm bringing to the fight. That being said your opinion nor mine is wrong or incorrect were just stating opinions. Racking a round is a great deterrent if its someone in your house unarmed and just looking for a easy score, but what if its someone who plan is to do harm or is mentally unstable either by drugs or just naturally disturbed. If someone is in my home unannounced and illegally I have to assume the worst. and as I mentioned my military m.o.s. ranges from a 11b & 18b also 37f. Go Benning & Bragg. And I know battle is different from home invasion but being woke up in the middle of the night not knowing who or how many and what's there objectives that's enough to get anyones heart pumping causing nerves to be on tilt along with the weight of the safety of family members, children, spouse ect... needing time for the night vision to kick in and accountability of family and enemies all at once if possible is enough of a stress test. I just feel not needing extra steps saves time and being silent as possible levels the NOT KNOWING FACTOR on both sides. But if your going to have firearms in the house it's a benefit for everyone in the home to train with the weapon (only if there willing to pull the trigger) I 100% agree with never point unless your committed fully to defend yourself. Doesn't mean u have to pull the trigger but you have to be able if needed. also practice home invasion or confrontations exit plans or safe rooms or even safety signs when calling out. Kids are u OK. All clear letting u know there room is safe or some other steps of measures. As He stated you never want to distress anyone in your home or someone looking for help weather it be a stranger or friend just stopping by unannounced. Just my opinion on the keeping 1 in the chamber weather it be a shotgun, pistol, rifle. some situations are different maybe due to kids safety but there are accessories out there to help with that as well. I keep my 12 guage next to my bed as well but I have a fingerprint vertical lock holding mine cause I have a 2 year old and 12 year old. I still want quick access and safety for my kids as well. Great video glad your taking your time to educate people and its people like yourself who keep our rights protected and help us protect our constitutional rights by informing people of gun safety and maybe some liberals might see Vids like these and see that the tax payer isn't the one who needs stiffer laws. Not everyone lives on congress hill protected by our own private arms. keep up the great work. Sorry so long but I take these very serious and the more people know the safer everyone can be.

By the time I woke up and the door flew open in my room and turned around the gun was in my ear...no time. I live alone and I put my mountain bike in front of my front door when I go to bed if it opens the bike will fall giving me some time or they run away.

The sound of racking the slide would scare off anyone that had even a little bit of sense. Only exception would be someone that was totally drunk or high on drugs.

    Very well articulated but I have to disagree. I like any weapon I am depending on for life and death situations to be loaded including the 'pipe.' I will say, however, if the user in question is not completely well-trained/versed in the firearm be it long or short might very well be served by nothing in chamber in order to avoid a catastrophic shooting--but then again, if the user is in fact a newbie than perhaps he or she should seek guidance before arming themselves for either Home or CCW. But, that's me and that this Gent of whom is obviously well trained in the platform and probably can run a pump as well as a semi. God Bless.

As long as you don't shoot them in the back then there's no way you'll be convicted of manslaughter or murder. Michigan has a stand your ground law. I'm legally able to do just that.

  • @pbthekid2666
    @pbthekid2666 8 років тому

    I understand there are several reasons not to keep the gun chambered in the home if it is not secured, (kids, house guests…etc). Basically, to avoid accidents. And there are those that say to not rack the action because it gives away your position, which is debatable since addressing a perp with a command or shining a flashlight also gives away your position. And, the age-old debate over chambered vs. non chambered will always exist. It's a personal choice which should not be made lightly.
    However, the belief in the concept of "the sound of racking the action is a much safer way to deter intruders so you don't need to have a potentially accident-causing-round in the chamber" is contradictory. By racking the gun to create that "sound", you are loading a round in the chamber! If the situation arises that you find it necessary to point your gun at a home intruder, why is having to cycle the action more ideal than the gun already being fire ready? If someone is not competent with their loaded "home defense" weapon, they might want to consider other defensive options. Note: I'm referring to a home defense situation, not a car carry or walking-the-property situation. Just my opinion.

    I see everybody here condemning you for this or that reason and the bottom line here is....EVERYONE has their own opinion and needs to stop! You do what you believe and only you will know in the end if you were right or wrong. "opinions are like a**holes....everybody has one"

    Big reason you NEVER keep a shotgun with a round in a chamber is a shotgun is not drop safe regardless of the safety. Just search gun fail to see video of loaded shotguns leaning against a wall fall over and go off. That is why cops have shotguns in cruiser ready in their vehicle because the round will go off if you get in a crash or whack it hard enough pulling it out of the bracket. It is also the reason home defense shotguns should have a sling.

    If racking the slide isn't a deterrent, then it just proves you need the gun. Yes, it gives your position away, but if your intruder is stupid enough not to take the hint, then you're all the more justified in shooting him. Better still, use a semi-auto and bypass the dilemma altogether.

    • @ishtacticalsolutions

      I must admit that ive never shot a Stevens 320! Typically the standard for a 12 gauge slug coming out of a 18 inch barrel is 200 yards on a point target. For 00 buck we never go passed 25 yards.... Area target and maximum effective range im not sure.... Thanks

      I recently purchased a Stevens 320, great shotgun! Was shooting clay pigeons at lease 50 yards away possibly farther.

    Although the racking of the shotgun slide could be a deterrent but likewise gives your position away to the bad guy(s) !!! I personally would rather be locked and loaded for bear and that means one in the chamber and 2 in the tube with all 3 being 00 buck shot with safety on of course !!! That way the only motor skills that has to be used is to switch the safety off and then combat ready if need be !!!

  • @curly27784

    I agree about leaving the chamber empty, but I would not depend on the sound to deter an intruder. Try reversing the process. Shoulder the gun and then rack one into the chamber. If the noise does the trick, that's good, but if the intruder wants a war, a flick of the trigger gets the job done. One added advantage is that small children would have a difficult (if not impossible) time of racking a pump shotgun. If your kids are big enough to rack one, then they should be trained how to properly handle one.

      You are correct on the shouldering the weapon to rack it! That was a bad demonstration on my part.....

      A good way to practice the method I described is to use it when pheasant hunting. It will make your hunting partners feel secure and it teaches you discipline. Instead of just throwing off a shot at a bird, you'll take the time to properly shoulder and point the gun.

    An auto does not make that noise when you chamber a round.

    I understand the philosophy but I disagree with pretty much all of this. One - charging the weapon will, most-likely, deter a non-violent threat; however, for someone that is there to fight or do you harm, you just gave your position away and the attacker can position himself based on your location. Once that weapon is charged, you are most-likely going to bring the fight to the attacker, which they know. Unless you are stating that you are not going to charge the weapon until you visualize the threat, in which case, you've already lost.
    Two: you pointed your shotgun at the camera man/woman, loaded or unloaded. Yes, I am being that guy because it should not be done, period.

      +TryntK Gave your position away? its your home, and he's gunna position himself in your house, mostly likely in the dark to gain the advantage over you?????

    • @TyrantKblastbeat
      @TyrantKblastbeat 8 років тому +1

      Exactly, it's your house - he/she has no fucking clue where you are at until you pump that gun. If you are sleeping, you mean to tell me that he's going to hide in a corner until you have to dump in the middle of the night? Right....
      We can talk about scenarios all we want; the reality is if I hear something go bump in the night, I would prefer the element of surprise rather than pumping a shotgun in hopes that he too doesn't have a gun and wont flee out the same window he busted or door that was kicked down. When this person breaks in, they don't know what room anyone is in and must go through a process of elimination (assuming you don't have children) until he gets to your room and then they just one a Darwin award.
      I also conceal my handgun when I am in public for the same reason. I don't want to advertise to any possible threats what kind of shit I have or that I am ready to fight.

    Most police that I've seen don't carry a pump with one in the chamber because they don't have a drop safety. I don"t like keeping mine with one in the chamber because the weapon is cocked and that little trigger safety is just not enough "Safety" for me unless I'm holding it and anticipating discharging it for whatever reason. Any firearm especially the shotgun is nothing to take lightly. If it fell and discharged, it would be very bad for whatever or whoever was in front of it.
