Taliban's Rise | Is the World Ready for What’s Coming Next?

  • Last month the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan participated in a UN-led conference in Doha, the first of three editions where a five-member Taliban delegation took part while women and civil society members remained absent. Three years since the Taliban overthrew the erstwhile Afghan Republic, their Islamic Emirate seems to be in a much more favourable strategic environment today. While no country has officially recognised their regime, countries in the region like China, Iran, Russia, India and the Central Asian Republics have initiated some form of engagement to further their strategic and security interests. The Taliban’s (mis)governance inside Afghanistan and close links with Al Qaeda, along with the growing threat posed by the Islamic State Khorasan Province (ISKP) which has now expanded its operations, all pose significant risk for a region already in turmoil.
    How successful have the Taliban been in solidifying their internal strength and authority in Afghanistan? How have the Afghan people fared under the Emirate, especially women? In what context should we view the public diplomacy efforts that the group has undertaken to gain legitimacy from the international community? What is the state of terrorism in the country? How are terror organisations - both global and local - leveraging the Taliban’s governance? As the group sets to begin their fourth year in power, how do you see the international community’s engagement with the group moving forward? What shape will India’s policy towards Afghanistan take in the future and what consequences will the deteriorating relationship between Pakistan and Afghanistan have on the region? Can countries rely on the Taliban to further their interests? Is formal recognition a distant possibility?

      There is no “Northern Alliance” today; what remains are the tribal, backward Pashtun Taliban, who have been employed by Pakistani interests and the ISI to further Pakistan’s agenda in Afghanistan. These Taliban are willing to align with any power that supports them, serving as their stooges. In contrast, other groups in Afghanistan, Tajiks, Uzbeks & Hazaras - oppose these backward tribal Pakistani sponsored Taliban and seek a different path. Afghanistan is a patchwork of ethnicities, cultures, and histories, with the Taliban representing only the Pashtuns in the south. The rest of the country shares little in common with them. This geography, created over a century ago by British and Russian colonial interests as a buffer zone, no longer serves its original purpose. Given this, the only viable solution is to divide the country along ethnic lines. Allow the Pashtuns to remain in the south under Taliban rule, while the rest of the country (Tajiks, Uzbeks & Hazaras) advances as a modern state. This division would enable the north to pursue education, science, and technological progress, aligning with the global community in harmony.

    As an Afghan, I have also studied in India. I and many of my classmates are working in the Islamic Emirate.
    Most of these stories are not true.
    The Taliban are the rulers of this geography and everything is going smoothly here.
    The Islamic Emirate sees the Indian nation as a brother, they tell us this in most meetings.

    This man (Mr. Amini) is misleading you. He is one of those who thought that US will now leave and that Taliban were too weak to make any gain in Afghanistan. These people duped themselves and some of the countries like India who were caught off guard and took 3 years for India to establish some relationship with the Taliban government. Taliban are the reality who have established a strong government and full control in the country after 50 years. Talk to Taliban directly and and you will see that they are not any threat to India and that they will be ruling Afghanistan at in the next 30 years. There are concerns in terms of women's rights, but that will be gradually resolved.

      Pashtuns are one of many ethnic minorities in Afghanistan, a country where no single ethnic group holds a majority. Instead, the only majority is linguistic, with Farsi (Dari) speakers being predominant. The current geographical and political landscape of Afghanistan was largely shaped in the late 19th century when British and Russian colonial powers established it as a buffer zone between their empires. This arbitrary division split ethnic groups like the Tajiks in the north and Pashtuns in the south between British India and the newly formed state of Afghanistan. The foundation of Afghanistan was imposed by these colonial powers, with no input from the local ethnic groups. Today, Afghanistan is a patchwork of ethnicities, each with distinct linguistic, cultural, and geographical identities. The deep divisions-linguistic, cultural, and social-have prevented the formation of a cohesive national identity. Instead, the country remains fragmented and divided. Colonial powers exploited these divisions, using ethnic groups to further their own interests. The Taliban, a product of the Pashtun ethnic group, is now controlled by external actors like Pakistan's ISI and China. This movement perpetuates a backward, tribal way of life that stifles progress and modernization. The solution may lie in realigning the country along ethnic lines: allowing Pashtuns to govern their own areas with their traditional practices, while enabling other regions to develop into modern, progressive states. This would facilitate educational and scientific advancement, fostering an environment where women can be empowered and contribute fully to society, in stark contrast to the Taliban’s oppressive regime that views women as second-class citizens and rejects progress in favor of outdated, patriarchal values.

      Pashtuns are the majority but around 40% of the total population of Afghanistan.

    • @allahmuhammad225
      @allahmuhammad225 21 день тому

      @@adarshyadav5926 Firstly, it’s important to recognize that Afghanistan has never conducted a comprehensive scientific census. All population figures we have are based on estimates, and it’s well-known that certain groups, particularly the Pashtuns, have a tendency to inflate or exaggerate their numbers. They consistently push their figures higher than they realistically are. However, any credible and realistic estimate would place their population at around 30% to 35%. Even if we were to generously accept the inflated figure of 40%, it still wouldn’t change the reality of their actual proportion within the population.
      So, according to you, 40% is a majority? I’m not sure whether to laugh or cry at this mathematical revelation. Did your math teacher in India just give up on you, or did you skip that day when they taught basic percentages? Because, let me tell you, 40% is about as much a majority as a bicycle is a luxury car. I mean, if 40% were a majority, then we’d have to rewrite the entire concept of democracy, wouldn’t we? Imagine going to vote and the candidate with 40% of the votes wins because, in your alternate universe, that’s a “majority.” Newsflash: a majority means more than 50%-more than half. So, unless you’re living in a world where numbers mean whatever you want them to, your 40% is just another way of saying, “I didn’t quite get there, but let’s pretend I did.” You know what? I think your math teacher might be looking for a refund on their teaching certificate, because clearly, something went horribly wrong here. Maybe stick to something safer next time, like counting your fingers-just make sure you don’t stop at four and call it ten.

    The Pashtun Taliban in Afghanistan represent a radical, backward ideology that is detrimental not only to Afghanistan but to the entire region. These tribalists are notorious for their anti-education stance, their hostility towards women’s empowerment, and their rejection of modernity and progress. They cling to a primitive, anti-civilization outlook that serves as a significant hindrance to the advancement of society. Afghanistan’s current borders and political landscape are a legacy of colonial manipulation. In the late 19th century, British and Russian powers established this geography as a buffer zone, cutting through the heartlands of various ethnic groups to serve their imperial interests. This artificial construct brought together disparate ethnicities-Pashtuns, Tajiks, Uzbeks, and Hazaras-into a single state, which has never been a natural fit. Today, the Pashtuns in the south, dominated by the Taliban, are fundamentally at odds with the values upheld by the rest of the country. They oppose education, reject women’s rights, and resist progress in favor of a tribal, theocratic regime. In stark contrast, the other ethnic groups, such as the Tajiks, Uzbeks, and Hazaras, are inclined towards modernization. They embrace education, advocate for women’s rights, and are eager to engage with global advancements in science, technology, and development. Given these profound differences, the only viable solution is to reorganize Afghanistan along ethnic lines. Allow the Pashtuns, with their Taliban rule, to either merge with Pakistan or establish an autonomous region where they can continue to adhere to their traditional values. Meanwhile, the other ethnic groups should be free to pursue a progressive path. They can focus on education, technological development, and social reforms without the encumbrance of regressive elements. This division would enable the country to move forward harmoniously, with each region following its own trajectory based on its values and aspirations.
