  • TOKYO, July 11, 2024 - Saurabh Mukherjea, founder and CIO of Marcellus Investment Managers, dives deep into India's evolving economic landscape in this exclusive discussion. Mukherjea explains how the world's fifth-largest economy is shaping a new elite class, driven by explosive growth in digital infrastructure, SME lending, and mobile commerce. He also delves into the success stories behind India's booming stock market, the impact of Japan's investments, and the surprising rise of women and local graduates leading the charge. Jesper Koll, chair of policy committee at Asia Society Japan, moderates the conversation. (1 hr., 6 min.)

58th min - Aadhar idea 2008-2010 by Nandan Nilkeni. In 2016 it was Raghuram Rajan - RBI governor who pushed the idea of UPI not Modi as incorectly stated by Saurabh. Infac, Modi did demonestization which was a distaster to the poor & the economy. ALso, caste problem still exists. 90% of Indian marriages still happen within same caste.

Fine and absolutely great as an ambassador of India abroad.
His economic analysis of India growth is ok from a LSE standpoint.
My issue is how to carry your population for feeding them and employing them in this new ecosystem of AI. Every time Sourav advocates for reducing Corporate Taxes and it's evident with the last 25 yrs IT Act but what about the middle classes getting butchered as with no tax incentives rather burdened every yr by yr by all government s , a simple benefit to Tax benefits to bonafide Tax payers is not there in comparison to basic government medical & education... GST on Health Insurance when it's an obligation of the Government of India to provide proper health care.
So will request Sourav Sir to please look into the aspects of Mango man too... The NSE BSE drivers are again the poor burdened middle class, to make ends meet they want quick money, so doing F&O.
Kindly highlight the common man issues with the Government as they don't have a representative body rather an electoral system wherein generally corrupt people are elected to govern on tax payers money and making a wealth to last few generations.

I respect Saurabh's instincts and expertise as an investor. He surely is in the vanguard of a new Indian elite who seem to get the pulse of a nation with big aspirations.
But i also wonder why such smart people are blind to the downsides of this model of continuous incremental growth that is predicated upon the use of finite resources.
No mention was made about the tremendous problem of waste and pollution that is baked into such a model of economic development from the get-go.
Widespread climate change ,with all it's unpredictable spillovers, is another black swan waiting to alight and disrupt our carefully constructed plans and maps of progress for the future.
What (calamity or crash) will it take for us to start to think of new models of economic growth that are not solely based on extraction and exploitation, consumption and pollution like now?
How long will GDP remain the sole index of a nation's status and wellbeing?
I'm waiting to hear a member of this new tribe of Indian elite who will dare to sing a different kind of progress song, one that is deferential to nature and to man, which could look back for tips to the civilizational legacy of India that awaits a deep exploration all it's own.
But for this we should first awaken from the deep spell the west has cast upon us ~

The reason Suzuki has such high sales is because of Maruti leadership if not it would face the same fate of Honda and Nissan of 2-5000 sales per month

SM's always been a great salesman. The same conviction has not translated into fund performance. Hope he does well on that front for the sake of his investors.
