First and foremost, Thanks to you Charlie Rose. You've taught me,another citizen of the world 🌎 in America 🇺🇸 , to engage with more critical thinking. I've been your follower for many years and you've taught me through the questions you've asked, thought provoking instances on each guest.
Finally, Fareed Thank you for the lessons in history, I love Been an American for the freedom it has granted us with: Be yourself and say what you think.

Loved the podcast. Bought Age of Revolution.
As an American citizen (of many decades) of Indian descent, I was struck by Fareed’s opening comments.
I have been told twice “You can be a US citizen but you will never be an American!”.
My response has been “I love America that is why I chose America over my country of birth - a very difficult choice. America chose me as I came here on an engineering fellowship to do my Ph.D. I continue to repay America’s trust & investment in me by leading innovation, creating jobs, and paying my share of taxes. In your case, you being an American is a mere accident of birth. Happy to match my contributions to this country I love to yours on any metric of your choosing”.

The interview captures the essence of what makes the United States a unique and enduring nation. Emphasizing America's greatness is already an established achievement, rooted in the values and vision of the founding fathers, this resonates deeply. It's a powerful reminder that the country's true strength lies in its core principles and heritage, rather than in needing to be "made great again." It’s an inspiring call for Americans to reconnect with that original spirit.

Fareed mentioned that he has many connections in Iran who claim that a significant number of Iranians are anti-U.S. I am confident this is not true. It appears that the individuals he is in contact with are either mullahs or their supporters. These are people who are working hard to reform the existing mafia-like regime with minor changes, aiming to keep their hold on power. People like Zarif fall into this category.
In the last election, voting booths were notably empty. Since there is no effective and open media source, private citizens took it upon themselves to film and share the empty polling stations on social media across the country. It's estimated that only 10-20% of the population within Iran supports the mullahs, largely due to the significant financial benefits they receive. The world will not experience peace until this corrupt, criminal regime is removed. The focus should be on helping the people, not the mullahs.
Mr. Zakaria, I believe you are more perceptive than this.

I too am a Kentuckian. I am amazed at the ignorance that puts people in power (rural votes) that do not have Kentucky’s interests at heart. Religion and politics has been a very bad marriage in Kentucky. I live 7 miles from Lincoln’s boyhood home. He would not recognize his party. Guns and coal define Kentucky. We have more Universities and colleges than you can imagine, yet ignorance prevails. There has always been great resistance to change. In politics, it is a great place for carpetbaggers and grifters to call home. I have stayed because I love the land. Peace and we have hope for better governance one day.

@@Goodnews99457 most of the problem is rooted in the perpetual corruption in small rural area’s government. It is a generational phenomenon. I thought it might die out over generations, but didn’t. When the children do become educated, they move away for opportunities and lifestyle changes. I don’t have the answer. We just need to return to being good neighbors to one another, religion and politics put aside. Peace.

this is what happens when you dont have voter id and your elections are a complete joke. people are frustrated because they still think there are people out there somewhere voting for these morons, because there is absolutely no way to audit it. once polls close they fill out ballots on behalf of everyone who did not vote. if you win the popular vote but not the electoral college its due to fraud. every single race now comes down to a few thousand votes, and the establishment candidates always win. we need more people voting in primaries they are the most important race far more important than the general and we need to secure the voters, when you have hundreds of thousands of people that left the state or are not citezens or are dead all of those will have mail in ballots filled out on their behalf. seeing all these races come down to a hair and then seeing the establishment win is like flipping a coin 100 times and 95 are heads. we need election security, then maybe these poeple will care once again what their voters think .

Fareed is a tremendous speaker and presents deep, thought provoking ideas. My only caveat is I do not see Donald Trump as a political genius but certainly strongly self-driven and timing was on his side when he decided to run. He knew to use fear to motivate the lower-middle class white man primarily. No sincerity, no morality, no academic prowess in DT but he could speak to base instincts.

The argument that market capitalisation of top 3 US companies are larger than ALL German companies is a poor economic argument as most of German industry is NOT bringing its shares to market !! The mittlestande is all held in private hands and the inheritance tax structure mitigates against such a move.. Many Mittelstand companies are in fact truly large with many many having thousands of employees and a great number over 10,000!
In short the bulk of German industry is privately held by owner families.
UK is a diagonal opposite, much like the US share capital is overwhelmingly in the stock exchange.

Great fan of Fareed! But I was a bit irritated by his comment about not being himself in India because he is a Muslim. Ironical. Father is a PhD and mother is an editor of Times of India. A lot of us cannot be ourselves in a poor country irrespective of religion.

On the streets for Hindus you are a muslim kid in a country that still lives in the shadow of cast system no matter who your parents are. It’s hard for you to understand unless maybe you are an African American.

Huge fan of Fareed. Huge fan of Charlie. Great interview and I agree with almost all of the discussion EXCEPT about Israel v Palestine. What double standards! It betrayed the colonial mindset that these two are bought into. Whilst I can understand the outrage in Israel and the need to retaliate, but see the language and empathy for Israel vs the absence of ANY mention of the massive levels of civilian casualties in Gaza. I cannot explain two extremely intelligent people having an attitude except to term it as bigoted. Very disappointing.

ZAKARIA if America is so open as you describe here then how its that there is no nationwide outrage against the genocide in GAZA & atrocities in west bank commited by Israël. 😮

We are open, but that doesn't mean we are well-informed about international affairs or empathetic to people suffering in other lands. In other words, we are open but nationalistically egocentric.

Problems of systems were always there, population was less so resources kind of met those heads yet history is full of poverty driven depressions crashing of stock markets murky financial systems yet same time unheard sums being spent on wars, all this happening during second world war and thereafter and this welfare system was born to help the desperation this megalomania never stopped of running doing proxy wars on other nations with fuel control in middle east in middle so to speak, when you sit in your well formed life from early on like Charlie Rose and Fareed even you do not realize what average earner or minimum wages have been going through

I think Chinese are hierarchical in CCP etc but the Chinese tech is not. I come from Finland and we have extremely hierachical, conservativel, and misogynistic big tech companies in Finland. Used to be also racist, this has changed as there has been huge effort to change it. It's nowhere as bad. South East Asia is very vibrant compared to Finland. I think lot of Europe is similar, especially Western Europe, Eastern Europe is much better due to communism where women were advanced in many sector. That's why Finland & Europe will fail, except Scandinavia, Poland etc if no big war breaks out.
