    Great job Rod. I was going to do a video on this topic and still might, focusing on what the common theological and historical research errors are and what sins they are committing in doing what they are doing..."Discernment heresy hunter accusers of the brethren" who deceive, lie, misrepresent, and gossip are an absolute cancer. You did a fantastic job laying a proper foundation for grown -ups to discuss issues in the church while doing so in a loving and biblically appropriate way.

    This teaching is so needed.
    I just came across two videos by reformedwiki that were very concerning. In one video, they said that Copeland and Joyce Myers teachings make them worse than Hitler.
    The other video said that the real issue we should condemn with Hillsong is not the sexual sin, but the doctrines they are teaching.
    This is so wrong... while I don't agree with all of the doctrines... they have certainly brought many thousands to a true relationship with the true Christ Jesus.
    It needs to be made very clear that the Bible says the teachers will be held accountable for wrong doctrines they spread (James 3:1)...but just because someone leads other to Jesus but then teaches excessive prosperity, doesn't mean those listeners will go to hell. That judgement belongs first to the teachers.

    Recently I watched a video from a well-known "discernment ministry." This individual started out talking about excesses practiced by some charismatic and Pentecostal groups and ministers. Having been a charismatic Christian for 48 years and being exposed to multiple ministers and fellowships, I had seen some of the non-biblical extremism he described. I agreed with him up to that point. Then he shifted gears to "That's what ALL charismatics and Pentecostals believe and do ALL the time," which is not simply true. He went so far as to say that ALL charismatics and Pentecostals are lost, they are not even saved, they are all bound for Hell. I felt real grief well up inside me, not anger for this individual. I have no doubt this individual is saved but I believe he has some bad theology. I would call him a brother in Christ but I don't think he would say the same of me. By the way I came out of a reform church. Extremism can be found in the charismatic camp, but it can also be found in the reform movement.

      Off the top of my head I'd recommend Charles Ryrie's book So Great Salvation. It was a rebuttal to John MacArthur's book The Gospel According To Jesus where he promoted Lordship Salvation, so be aware of the fact that it's a rebuttal rather than simply a topical book on the subject of soteriology, but it covers the issues pretty thoroughly. You could also check out Ryrie's book on Basic Theology. If I think of anything else I'll let you know.

      I'm no expert on Catholicism but as I understand it their eschatology is amillennial. I don't consider that heretical. As for their soteriology, it's hard to nail them down. Since Vatican 2 most Catholics have insisted that they affirm justification by faith, but many of their critics claim that they still have a works based system.

      @@JewandGreek FYI. My thoughts on the topic.
      Abstract. All people are born sinners, dead in their transgressions and sins, willfully incapable of believing in God or submitting to his law. Deserving God’s holy wrath.
      Initial salvation is by grace through faith in Christ alone, which gives assurance of future salvation. Sinners are forgiven their sins, made righteous and blameless through Christ’s death on the cross. They have their hearts circumcised and their minds renewed by God’s Holy Spirit. Having become righteous in the sight of God, they bear good fruit, practice righteousness, but still sin.
      The process of salvation involves both God and the believer. God continues to forgive through the cross of Jesus and sustains the righteous through the Spirit. The righteous are instructed to persevere in gospel faith, repentance, and obedience. There remains the real danger of falling from grace by ongoing unrepented sin.
      On the day of the Lord, Jesus will judge every person impartially according their works. People reap what they sow. God’s people will stand before God righteous, holy and blameless. Their sins forgiven and remembered no more. Their perseverance in repentance, in righteousness and good works throughout their Christian lives reaping eternal life. The sinners and the wicked will be condemned, receiving death as the just penalty for their sins.
      Future salvation will be given to the righteous who will receive eternal life and inherit the kingdom of God. The wicked will be punished and endure God’s wrath. thescripturesays.org/topics/future-judgment-and-salvation/

Welcome correction! Thank you! This also confirms what I have wholeheartedly believed for years- once saved, always saved/perseverance of the saints is the most dangerous false teaching in the church today. Just like deliverance from sickness and physical affliction was purchased already but we don’t always see it for various known & unknown reasons. We have promises of deliverance from sin we can claim by faith and put to death the old nature.

    • @JewandGreek
      @JewandGreek  2 роки тому

      Possibly, but then I'm not a Greek scholar. Many denominations are formed over political, cultural, or structural differences. For example, the Southern Baptists started as a result of the slavery issue. The Assemblies of God were basically just a white version of the Church of God in Christ. Then there are churches that hold basically the same beliefs but disagree on church government or "polity", be it congregational, presbyterian, apostolic, pastoral ... etc. Then there are church splits which would qualify as divisions, but those are rarely over doctrine. They're usually over disagreements over personalities, finances, or other non-doctrinal issues.

    @Jew and Greek I don't agree with you on a number of things but I really liked this video, lots of food for thought. Often, the church does not do disagreement on non-essential issues well (I include myself in that).
    There was one point you made though that I didn't particularly like. You were saying that false teachers shouldn't be called out publicly and I understand the reasons you gave from Scripture. However, isn't that something you do in your videos? You call out people in these discernment ministries by name, presumably because you think what they are saying is harmful and you want other believers to be aware of them, and why it's harmful. Just as in the exact same way, discernment ministries call out who they think are false teachers by name because they perceive their teaching to be harmful and want other believers to be aware of them, and why the teaching is harmful
    I think the issue here is more the manner with which both sides talk about these issues. Mockery, pride, arrogance etc we see quite a lot. But, as long as it's done with respect and humility, I don't see why we can't name those we disagree with when we present our case on an issue.

    • @JewandGreek
      @JewandGreek  3 роки тому +5

      The difference is I don't attack. I respond. Jesus and Paul responded to their critics, and Peter tells us to always be prepared to give an answer. I don't recall ever doing a video calling somebody a heretic or false teacher other than a passing reference to Carlton Pearson who admits to being a heretic. When I name names it's because the person has already put their name out there in a UA-cam video attacking individuals or Charismatics or "NAR" or WoF. Once they do that they've made themselves "fair game". I don't consider Kari Jobe (whom Spencer Smith called a heretic) fair game. I agree that we need to change the tone, and I think The Remnant Radio is trying to make that happen which is why I support them. The problem is we're not talking TO each other. We're talking AT each other. I've offered to dialogue with all of my critics, but so far nobody seems willing to take me up on the offer.

    The simplest way to define heresy today is by defining "truth." Jesus said I am the way, the truth, and the life. . ." So any religious teaching that contradicts Jesus' words or teaching is heresy. Now, as Christians how do we deal with heresy? We don't burn them alive at the stake! We don't hang them or chop off their heads. We admonish them! After several admonitions we just leave them alone.
