  • In this edition of Maverick University, Bro. Don Ossewaarde, staff and faculty member at Providence Baptist College, gives a brief explanation of why we use the King James Bible and consider it to be the inspired, preserved Word of God for English-speaking people. He calls these few points his Bible “sniff test” which has helped him determine why some Bible versions don’t measure up to the historical validity, doctrinal soundness, and beauty of the King James Bible.

Funnily enough, I was converted at the age of 14 from an old, falling apart King James Bible that was found at a rubbish dump! I had never seen a Bible even though I was educated in Catholic schools, but I had no trouble understanding it and learning what I needed to know to be saved! Maybe God opened my understanding at the time, I don't know, but I always have been puzzled by people who say the KJV is too hard to read and understand. That was in 1974 and I find it interesting that God led me to THAT Bible, a KJV, rather than a more modern translation!

The first Bible my mom gave me was a King James Bible, I kept it for many years up until I started going to Church, I went to a few that did not use the Kjv and i wondered why they were not preaching and teaching the same text I was reading in my Bible. I thank God for the preservation of His Word. I also thank God that he gave a mother who introduced me to the Kjv the REAL written Word of God!

You know what… dang it.. I hate being wrong. But the more I think on it, it does seems that once they switched us away from KJV that is sort of when Christianity began to implode. Maybe in part because the word lost its richness and beauty which captivated us for centuries. And with that it lost its authority. I think I’m now a KJV only 😂

I can’t even lie… I came into this video thinking the “KJV only” people were crazy and a joke. Why should it matter so long as the translation is accurate? But he does make some very solid points. The most important thing about the KJV to me is it feels authoritative, and has a classic beauty to it that is certainly unmatched amongst all translations. Maybe there’s something to that..

For me I can clearly see and feel a difference when I switch from the KJV to a modern translations, and for me that difference isn't good.

This is amazing information. I have just recently purchased my King James version of the Bible. It’s not the new version. It’s just a regular one so I can hardly wait to receive it and start reading it. Thank you for such an interesting in Amazing Post.

Very Good easy to understand info why the KJV is the
    Word of God.
    Thx for posting this.
I got saved when I was 18 years old and began reading the KJV 61 now I've been reading the King James for a long time and every once in awhile I'll pick up a newer version to read it and it just feels uncomfortable confusing, like something's wrong it has no Authority or power in my opinion.
God always brings me back to the KJV and I thank him for it

The same thing happened to me when I was 20 years old after I got saved. I thought I needed another translation and bought the NASB and the RSV which were both popular at the time. That was 46 years ago!!! This debate has been going on a LOT longer than that. The truth of the matter is that if the Holy Spirit of God doesn't open the scriptures to a person no amount of new Bibles will make any difference. It is only through the ministry of the Holy Spirit that we can understand the Bible.

Probably the best summary of the KJV position I've found online. Thank you for publishing this.

Good job presenting the facts. It’s a shame that so few people know this. A great example of the difference is the last 16 or so verses of Mark, the new versions leave them out or put an asterisk by them. This section of verses happens to include the great commission, kinda important…The new versions also leave out, or put an asterisk by, the account of Jesus defending the adulteress woman.

Luke ch2 v33 is enough for me to stick with the kjv. Kjv says joseph. and other bibles say father

One of the main attacks in the newer versions is on the deity of Jesus Christ. First Timothy 3:16 is one of my pet peeves. Most newer translations change the word God, clearly referring to Christ is God manifest in the flesh, to a personal pronoun such as he. First John 5:17 is completely removed from many of them and is one of the most hotly disputed verses in the entire Bible. Even in the New KJV I believe there are at least 6 or 7 verses that are changed that would call into question the deity of Christ in the gospels. As you know, Jesus was WORSHIPPED and accepted that worship in the gospels and in Revelation for that matter. The word for worship is VERY specific and it is changed simply to something like "bowed" which does NOT mean worship. Btw, if Jesus had not been God in the flesh it would be blasphemy punishable by death according to Old Testament law. Jesus accepted worship because He is God in a human body.

the very idea that the perfect bible is sitting in a hole in the ground or in a deep dark catholic library somewhere, we just need discover it is completely absurd. I’m a certified idiot, I know it when I see it.

    Bible Translation Stuff
"In contrast to the half-dozen mainly medieval manuscripts on which the King James Version was based, we now have over five thousand New Testament manuscripts, including some extremely close to the time the New Testament books were written (by the standard used for ancient texts). These manuscripts make the New Testament by far the best-documented work of the ancient world and also explain why more accurate translations are available today than in times past."
