I’m loving my 5’7! Im 6ft, 72kg and I’m glad I went with more volume for junky days. I’ve been surfing it with the split keel quad fins for bigger conditions, and I surf with Al Merric Keels twins for ultra small days. All work great!
I love my Seaside! I have been surfing a 5’5” with the Machsdo quad fins for the past year. It’s really fast and paddles so easily. BTW, I mostly surf 2-4’ east coast USA waves that are choppy.
8:03 hello, I am loving your channel, I would like to see a video on how you sit and turn your board around so fast. Thank you, great surf channel🏄♂️🤙🏼
My bro was all about this board too and he recently got a js black baron and said that the js was the most amazing small wave board he ever tried and that it does all the stuff the seaside does but faster and with ease. He claims it’s like high performance small wave ripping with training wheels he said it felt like cheating it turns and paddles better then any board he has ridin in his 25 years as a surfer.
I had a 5 6, which I sized based on the volume I wanted, but unlike many found it pushed water making it hard to paddle compared to a pointy nosed board. Maybe I should have gone for a 5 4 as its a shape where the bulk of the volume is up front. Be interested to hear anyone else's thoughts.
Been looking at these I'm getting back into surfing had the longboard for a while but miss the short board feel. I'm 62, 95 kilos and 6'2" tall . In your opinion what size would be good? From experience I want enough volume so not to be hard work, but want to duck dive. Cheers .
Hi Martyn, it is a tough question as there are so many variables. It could be a good choice, but going from a longboard to this could be a tough transition, especially if you haven't surfed much lately. A mid length could be a good option as you will have more of that short board feel, but also good paddling ability and easier to handle than a longboard in regards to duck diving...Maybe try a few different boards if possible and see what feels best. Hope that helps
Thanks for the reply. Ended up buying a 7'6" RJ Elenmt Twin with trailer 60 ltrs volume. Bought it secondhand bargain once I get up it's fine but need to work on my pop ups not so supple these days but working on that ashore. Cheers .
have you tried the puddle jumper before ? i tried the seaside but the wave were too punchy for it , it's was not a good feeling, too bad i couldnt try on small crappy wave.
@@TheSurfersJourney for me it's the best small wave board ... and it's got a bigger range than the seaside i think , i have the hypto too it's not as good as the puddle jumper on small wave but the hypto has a bigger upper range and can work on stepper drop. The puddle jumper act more like a regulard shortboard with the benefit added for small wave .
the question is, how do you size it? I am a beginner/intermediate, 5' 10, 155 pounds would 5' 6 to 5' 8 work? I read many saying they could have gone smaller, thanks.
@@TheSurfersJourney not yet, several others have tild me not go that road yet but go bigger. I am coming down from a 7'6" 54,4L. I am also looking at the Greedy Beaver, perhaps more forgien. I can pump down the line comfortably, both sides, y can bottom turn both sides and working in my cut backs and rentry, but i feel the board heavy and too big. I do a lot of surfskate also. What do you think? Btw thanks a lo for sharing your knowledge you and Kale, been following your channels for a year now and its great help.
I have been trying to surf my Al Merrick Pod 6'8" x 21 3/4 x 3" for a while. I had a lot of time off due to injuries, work, life, etc. I struggle with my pop ups. I need to go back to a foamie. I am saving for a longboard. Hopefully after COVID lockdown, I can get a job and buy a long board. Seaside seems too advanced for me?
If you are thinking about going back to a foamie / longboard for a bit, then yes I would hold off on the seaside for a bit. If you like the pod, you will like the seaside.
@@TheSurfersJourney I love my Pod. I use to catch waves easily on it. It was a massive improvement from my first board which was a cheap very heavy import mini mal - what a horrible board. Now I want something even easier as I am trying to heal while trying to find time to surf.
I don't think it is LOL. It's not a groveler at all IMO. I loved the Seaside when it was clean/semi clean 2-4 ft with a little bit of face to work on but it sucked in choppy gutless waves. It gets way more challenging to do the drop when it's steep face. It could be a different experience for more advanced surfers that can generate speed quicker by surfing a shorter size to beat the sections.
Like the board .. not a fan of the chardo fins, felt super trackey. I Put the shapers quad keels in …… much better, looser but stil drivey. Sucks how the heliums go yellow quick as too

Hey Chris, I agree, I find it hard to move away from!
Nice!
I like that you surf the 8ft boards sometimes as well as short boards.
I enjoy the relaxed approach longboards offer, definitely recommend.
Great stuff bro! Your vids help me out so much!!
🔥🔥🔥
That is great to hear, thanks for watching!

Thank you, that is a great idea. Coming soon 👊
Love my 5’2 seaside in overhead surf as well
A fun board for sure

Sounds like a pretty fun board, would love to try one.
Thanks - you surf good. What about this vs a beater?
Hey Jimi, thanks for your feedback. Good idea, perhaps in the future!
Would like to see the seaside in 1-2 foot surf..1-2 foot NE UK tho...)
Yes good point

Interesting point David.
What do you think about the firewire sweet potato 2.0?
I haven't surfed it Ben, not sure...looks fun as a groveller!

Not yet, it isn't really on my radar. Is that something you would suggest trying?

I think a 5'6 would be a nice balance given your beginner to intermediate level. Have you bought one yet?

Skipper what is your current favorite east coast groveler?

So many great grovellers on the market. The seaside is good, certainly not the fastest.
What is faster?
Im 58 years old and i have a 5'8" 5 stars
Hey Brett, thanks for your feedback. 5 stars for sure.
