Hey guys! Just wanted to say thanks for making this. While I don't play too many videogames anymore, I still enjoy keeping up with the gaming space and the way you guys talk is so relaxing. It's just nice to sit back and listen while I go through my magic cards or doing dishes or whatever. Can't wait for the next one!

Short form content has fried my brain into not being able to sit through long form videos too much but I always make it through these podcasts. Thanks for making them guys

Gaming needs more of this mindset, it is a breath of fresh air.
My Game of the year is Indiana Jones, not only is it very solid, but it has evoked that Lucasfilm magic of old and has woken up the 10yr old kid in me. That game made me so giddy.

Great podcast as per usual. Here are some sale suggestions from me:
Dragon Ball Fighterz legendary edition is $39.59. This includes all the DLC characters and some other goodies too. The basegame can be picked up for $9.59. It's my favorite game ever, and although I've dropped it recently because I don't like the state it was left in balancewise, it's an absolute must-own for any Dragon Ball fan.
If and when the Master Chief collection goes on sale for $10ish like usual, that's an instant buy for everyone's steam library. Crazy value.
Civilization V complete, with all the DLC, is on sale for $14.95 USD right now. It's my third favorite game of all time, I've drowned hundreds of hours into it, and I'm nowhere near done exhausting all of its content. Whether you want to mess around in multiplayer with friends, delve into the still-active modding community, play the historically accurate Scenarios or just play single player games and enjoy the nationbuilding, there's plenty to see and do.
Battlefield 1 is UNDER THREE DOLLARS right now. I'm going to play it this coming year when I have the time but man I'm itching to get at it.
My favorite game that came out this year was Dragon Ball Sparking Zero, but as for things that didn't come out this year, I really enjoyed playing Assassin's Creed Revelations, Max Payne, and Jedi Survivor.
I think a fun (maybe obvious) topic for the next podcast could be doing some gaming New Years resolutions. Not just games that you want to finally get to, but ways that you want to change your habits too. Seems very up your alley. Thanks, both of you!

My game of the year was Halo: Combat Evolved. The only campaign(s) in Halo I had ever played was approximately the first 2 levels of that game as a kid, and the rest I had ever played in Halo was just multiplayer in the other games. It was cool to go back and enjoy this game for the first time from beginning to end.

I’m currently doing my first playthrough of Elden Ring. I only just reached the Altus Plateau for the first time today, after about 43 hours, and I still have like one-third of Liurnia and most of the Academy that I need to backtrack to do.
And now we’ve got a roguelite spin-off announced during the Game Award, which is also coming next year, possibly within the first half of 2025 as I’ve been hearing some people speculate.
Guess I’ll be playing Elden Ring content until next year’s Game Awards, at this rate.

I think “unlimited” “cheap” compute cycles and storage has caused many of the negative game issues. Ever bit use to matter so games were optimized on all levels with no filler. Tight Constraints force creativity.

Injustice 2 is currently 90% off on steam. Picked it up as a DC offset to the INCREDIBLE Marvel Rivals, and it is fantastic. Fighting games aren't for everyone, but for me, this game is awesome. Don't know how long the sale lasts, but it's worth picking up.

I would wonder if the hours watched statistic is "time spent watching" or "hours of video watched". Since you can watch youtube in 2x speed which I often do, I wonder does a 10 min video count for 10 mins even if you watch it in 5 mins.

    • @brentjohnson9467

I think it also needs to considered - many people can watch videos at work, while walking on a treadmill, while walking their dogs (like I’m doing right now), and a variety of other times. Meanwhile, I am lucky if I get two hours of game time per day, but most days, I’ll instead spend those two hours watching a movie with my wife. I hope to god if this results in video advertising in games, like mentioned, that people just push back on it, Battlefront 2 style, and give a big “fuck you” to every company that tries to exploit people’s free time.

  • @NPCLiam
    @NPCLiam Місяць тому

On the note of replayability - super interesting I’m the total opposite. For linear games once those credits roll I might never play it again. I like to leave that finality alone even with the Halo games that are great sandboxes and short games. I do usually replay through them one more time if a sequel is coming out - I replayed The Last of Us about a month before Part II came out but usually I’m so behind on things an entire franchise is out by the time I get to it. When I do feel like revisiting a game I’ll do so by listening to the soundtrack or watching video essays on it. For me that brings back those memories but doesn’t tarnish the game experience because I don’t want to replay a game and feel less “YESSSS” than how I did during round 1. Also with experiencing the story already, I just find the linear nature to be a less exciting style to revisit.
On the other hand open world games - actually more in line with what y’all were saying - I do go back for a “replay” but it’s usually my NG+ run after finish exploring the map I never got to, do more side quests, maybe a platinum or something and then also play the DLC which is usually what prompted a return in the first place. I did that with Zero Dawn, beat it in 2017, then played Frozen Wilds when that came out in 2018 then replayed the main game for NG+ in 2020 and also did the platinum. While not exactly the same thing those NG+ runs for me are the extent of any replaying I’ll do since you do have more freedom to just exist and live in those worlds compared to a linear experience.

Games are 100% getting too long. Once you cross the 35-40 hour mark pacing gets messed up and it’s really hard to stay engaged/feel like your time is being respected
