Lexus ‘Rolls-Royce’ 7-Seater - the £200,000 LM and all the best new cars at the Shanghai Auto Show!

- Опубліковано 20 кві 2023
- Mat has travelled over to China to attend the Shanghai Motor Show, and he’s about to present to you his A-Z list of the best cars due out over the next few years!
There are a whole host of different cars here, of all different shapes and sizes. For example, he’ll take a close look at the BYD Seagull - a small all-electric hatchback that will cost from just £10,000! What’s more, the range-topper will still have a claimed range of 252 miles. There are, of course, a host of other Chinese cars on show here, including the all-electric Hiphi Y and Hiphi X (no prizes for guessing where the inspiration for the names came from).
But it wasn’t just Chinese brands on show. There were all-new cars from global, world-renowned brands here. BMW unveiled the i7 M70, the 660hp edition of the all-electric 7 Series. The all-new Polestar 4 was also unveiled, as well as the new Volkswagen ID.7 saloon.
Not only that, but there are a number of crazy autos on show, including a huge off-roading camper van called the Armadillo!
Either way, this is one video you don’t want to miss! The only question is, what’s your favourite car on show here? Let us know in the comments!

Matt being thrown off the Lexus stand is a badge of honour.
Matt is too handsome and disturbed the ugliness of the Lexus. 😀

That U9 looks better in the grey and really start to grow on my with the looks. 0-100km in 2s is insane for $125k! This cost less than the extras for ICE cars that performs remotely close to this figure.
Yes that car alot better in Gray than Yellow Color version! Lol
0-60 mph not 100km , has to be all figures 0-62mph then is 100km
I'm looking forward to see how fast it is on a track. That 4 wheel independent hydraulic suspension is powerful enough to send the car airborne while sitting still, and is quick enough to make multiple adjustments every second. On a track it would mean it can constantly optimize suspension travel and stiffness at every wheel throughout the track.
I’m from Shanghai and a huge fan of you. I used to go to the Shanghai Auto Show with my dad when I was a kid. A lot of good memories!
Well all I can say is the Chinese are far more adventurous in their designs than Europe and probably the rest of the world! 👏👍😀

The best thing is you can always get an EV at a proper price in Chinese market. You can get an affordable EV here only cost 10k with 400km range. You can also get a model3 under 30k. The BYD Seagull is absolutely fire! Cheap due to implementation of Sodium Ion batteries, which are more sustainable than Lithium Ion. Has good range for the size. Absolutely what I wanted to make when I finished my university degree!
The only problem is the long charge times but if you threw in the option of a small range extender that would be spot on.
Sodium is a better overall chemistry but people want those headline figures of how fast it will charge - even though most chargers don't support it anyway.
There's a problem. The BYD Seagull uses lithium-ion batteries instead of sodium-ion batteries. If it used sodium-ion batteries, it would be cheaper.
@@SirTree-hr2rv Like how much cheaper? I feel like 10k for a new small electric car is really cheap given that you can find good used gasoline cars for no less than 7k. (7k I am considering in CAD, not Pounds which I imagine the 10k is)
This is a rumor, byd seagull is lfp battery
Seagull is using lithium ion battery, not stadium ion. It will use stadium ion battery later and lower the price.
I am quite pleased to see how chinese automobile industry has been evolved to. Big thanks to Matt and his team who cover and made this high quality contents.
Nice video, great show and beautiful cars. Thanks
Very happy to have met Matt at the show, pleasantly surprised when he came to the Lamborghini stand to cover the Revuelto. Great coverage of the show and love the content. Keep up the good work.
That Hiphi Z is the most cyberpunk thing I have seen in real life. It's insane and I love it.
wait to see it at night
yeah, i think it will be available overseas in the future! Which is really amazing car
Seriously so many of the cars look like they would fit in perfectly in the Cyberpunk universe. The future is getting closer
Apparently it also performs well too. Chinese auto journos have been able to track it, and have given positive reviews of its driving dynamics.
The more EV options out there on the market, regardless of which country or brand, the better it is for the general consumers like you and me. More options, better value for money, companies will compete hard in the EV segment.
I live how Matt pushes past people and still can make professional grade content in an open environment full of people... Only Matt!!!!!!
So Happy to see Mat Back in China doing these Reviews :) 🥰
Fantastic content Mat! I truly enjoy the videos. Also, I am quite impressed by the Chinese EVs. I never even heard about some of these brands, but the design and specs are impressive especially for the quoted prices!
Slowly Chinese brands will be all over the world.
That Zeekr X at the end is a particularly good value. The top trim AWD version that can hit 60 in 3.7 seconds costs only 35k USD in China! For a fully electric fully loaded compact luxury crossover!
Because they steal all of the technology
Absolutely brilliant work!
No way! Mat was in Shanghai! Welcome and it’s good to see you making the video for the shanghai auto show! Lovely!
Impressed with the sliding infotainment screen on the Zeekr X
👍
20:21 The Zeekr X only has automatic doors in the front and the rear button can pop out the rear door (manually operated). And for people who haven't heard of this brand, Zeekr is basically a Chinese version of Polestar based on the same SEA platform from Geely (which owns Volvo), its first car Zeekr 001 is a large EV shooting brake and quite successful in the past two years.
Polestar 4 is the same car as zeekr 001
the chinese having zero creativity and copying what others are doing? that's impossible.
@@Dan-ce3sd 😢😢Am I hearing you right? Both Volvo and Geely contributed on that platform…..And Zeeker and polestar both owned by Geely.

Yep. Quite clear.
I've been waiting for this coverage for some while. Reminds me of the early glory days of ICE car when you have new brands emerging everyday, but it the end, only the big players got to stay.
In the Chinese EV market, BYD is undoubtedly the biggest player currently looking for worldwide expansion. Thanks to the European connection from Geely, you may expect the Zeekr brand sooner or later. I've heard Nio had started leasing their cars in EU. Just a hint of what newer EV brands you might get in EU in the future.
In the end, it's the competition among big players that benefits the consumers with the right product at a right price.
Hi Mat, looks like you're enjoying your good self at the show. As you sure should...Very nice description of all vehicles. Thank you and all the best...Andre..

Nice video! Good to see something a little different!👍
Agree.
Chinese car brands are going to take over, amazing progress in a short space of time.
Agree. It’s reminds me what Jeremy Clarkson said in China episode
if only the US imports Chinese cars, cuz there are so many cars that are relatively cheap and good bang for the buck, and having them here in the US can really change the market up and the pricing of the new cars released here. But guess its prob not gonna happen because US doesn't want that.
Engine technology is not as good as Japan and Europe, so they can only develop electric car

I really find the Seagull interesting since it isn't using lithium batteries with all those rare metals. Must be the most eco friendly vehicle that is in production. Battery development is going to be interesting to follow
No Mat's jumped the gun and got wrong info. Those initial Seagulls will be using BYD's famous LFP blade lithium batteries. It is RUMORED that BYD has some of the first even sodium ion batteries ready for mass production, perhaps as soon as later this year, and because those batteries are cheap but offer less range, the first car they will go into would be this cheap little Seagull. But BYD is famously tight lipped, and don't reveal anything until they are literally ready to go into production.
Having sat in Toyota Alphard, Vellfire and Estima for long distance trips, they are super comfortable and I think it's the best vehicle to be chauffeured around despite the controversial boxy exterior. Don't need to bend down just to get in like executive sedans and limo. The ones I sat in was not even top of the range (Executive Lounge is the highest range I think, much much more posh). Can't imagine how the Lexus feels like. They are the luxury version of Toyota.
Yeah pretty comfortable for a toyota, still no match for the like of s class
@@ramadhanisme7 but you can’t bring your family and nannies in S class

The cheap BYD seems like a good option for commutor specific driving. Not a super long range and it doesn't charge as fast, but it's cheaper. I imagine that the battery is cheaper to replace as well.

Hey man, welcome to the show, again. Unfortunately I have to work for the week and not able to go. Not sure if you would be doing some road show or wandering around the country. Wish you good luck.
I see that some people here don't like the desing of the Lexus LM, but you gotta believe me, the design on this generation is a LOT tamer than on the previous gen in order to fit EU taste better. Personally I think it looks very cool, and it's a totally new thing on the EU market. Luxury minivans like this have been around for quite a while in Asia, but in Europe this is all new.
