I love the little detail about how Adam addresses Samus. The real Adam calls her "Lady" and the Raven Beak Adam calls her "Samus". I definitely picked up on it.
What helps in the beginning they make sure Adam says lady twice before the game starts to help people who hadn’t play fusion can still pick up on the foreshadowing
@@ziqi92 Yeah, after he regained "sentience" and disobeyed his Federation orders when Samus accidentally called him "Adam". The few times he refers to her after that, he calls her "Lady".
Samus wasn't in it for the money in this game. She sought to finish the job since she knew how dangerous the X Parasites are. Couldn't take the chance of them escaping the planet they were on. Which was her motive in Fusion, dictating the use of the BSL Station's self destruct at first but opting the set the station orbit to intercept the planet itself.
I could also just assume her suit’s scanners can translate the language. That’s how it’s seemingly explained whenever she’s reading log data in Prime And in this case with speaking it, the suit and mutation could allow her to translate her speech to the language of her choosing
I love how Samus has so much more character in this game. You can see it in her posture, how she fights, like with kraid. I love during the final battle how she just fucking screams while taking everything down. We have never ever heard Samus do something like that, but it really showed her rage and willpower in that moment.
Honestly the most satisfying moment in any metroid game to me. Better than power bombing the tube in the Meridia intersection in super metroid, Better than her gender reveal in the first game. Even though it was the metroid DNA that caused her to react that way, it still gave us an understanding as to who Samus is and why she's such a badass. Now every time I fight a boss in a metroid game I'm going to imagine her violently screaming as she sucks the life force of her enemy dry
I know, right? The Kraid thing was awesome! She's probably like, "No fucking way..." almost bemused, and this giant lizard just screams in her face, so she just nonchalantly charges up her beam, casually points up into his mouth and fires like, "Yeah, I already know how to kill your sixty-foot-tall ass. Let's go."
The final fight is such a neat little twist on a certain trope. The stereotype is that the hero nears defeat and has some flashbacks to family and unlocks a newfound strength or power to conquer evil. Here? There aren't any sappy feelings or powers of friendship. It's just pure, unbridled rage.
At first I wanted Samus to be a silent protagonist, but that one and only line was perfectly executed. Wouldn't mind Nintendo doing the same thing for Link.
She’s only ever really a silent protagonist in the prime games, while the older 2d games don’t give her a voice actor for obvious reasons she still talks like in super Metroids opening and throughout metroid fusion
@@SR-388 Most of the dialogue seen in Super Metroid and Fusion is Samus' inner thoughts about the current events, and Dread is no exception with its intro. The first time we see her actually talk is near the end of Metroid Fusion when she is confronting Adam for trying to use the X Parasites as bioweapons, and we hear her speak for the very first time in Metroid Dread.
@@katamed5205 tho you gotta agree its kind of a balanced trade-off. You have incredible power and remain sane throughout but at the cost of killing everything you touch
I find Samus and Quiet Robe's interaction kind of endearing. First, she _only_ drops her guard when Quiet Robe does his little bow, and then she just sits and listens quietly to his exposition. Like she finally realizes that this guy is the same kind of Chozo who took her in and raised her when she had lost her family to the Space Pirates - like Old Bird and Gray Voice. Read the manga if you don't know who those two are. And then, once she's heard the story, Samus doesn't just give a nod. She replies to Quiet Robe _in the Chozo language_ - one that she either never forgot or prefers to speak in. Also, I find it endearing that Quiet Robe comes back as an X just to help Samus escape...kind of like how one of the SA-X helped Samus escape at the end of Fusion when she was confronted by the Omega Metroid...and again, she doesn't drop her guard until Quiet Robe-X bows...
I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one who adores Quiet Robe. Also, thank you for reminding me of both Old Bird and Grey Voice; the Metroid manga oft goes forgotten, despite it being canon.
@@Zeppelee Adore might be too much but yeah, Quiet Robe was so endearing. Even as the X took over, he somehow managed to stay true to his race : even in death, it rises again to help his fellow.
I think Robe-X's goal in the end was to take Quiet Robe's DNA and make samus absorb it so that the Metroid DNA would be contained. Quiet Robe's Tribe controlled the Metroids but Samus didn't have that ability since she was from the warrior tribe. The X basically just kept the Metroid DNA from going ham.
@@lordsaviorelmo667 Samus has DNA from both tribes; Raven Beak was the contributer for the Mawkin DNA while Grey Voice contributed Thoha DNA. If Raven Beak is to be believed, Samus' Metroid state would've occurred immediately after her vaccination had her Thoha DNA not restrained it. It was constant exposure to battle and Raven Beak intentionally antagonizing her that finally overcame that block.
Love the subtle foreshadowing. Adam usually calls Samus "lady", as mentioned and shown throughout all of fusion, but when you contact him the first time onward he calls her by name.
SPOILERS To be honest, he also calls her "Samus" at times, but the lack of "Young lady" or "Lady" for SO long certainly triggered my "something's wrong" internal alarm, like during the second half of the game.
In hindsight i felt like his whole personality was different throughout the game, stuff like "worthy opponent" and the way he's constantly speaking himself up when regarding Raven Beak "you're no match" this and that, cool stuff
I really like how the interior of Samus' helmet is designed like a pilot mask, driving home that it looks like she has a "beak" under there. (For that chozo design to shine through) They really did a good job giving the eyes and eybrows a lot of expression.
Metroid Dread did everything I wanted to see in a fusion sequel. The way the X were re-introduced as one infiltrating the Chozo, being somehow quarantined on ZDR, released, and then overrunning the planet in a matter of minutes/hours was awesome. The X even tried to freeze the planet in hopes of killing Samus because of her Metroid genes. Raven Beak did not set that up, that was completely the X's instinct. I also really like how Quiet Robe initially was used as a X host but later gained influence over it to show the spiritual/mystical nature of the Chozo. One thing I did not get was that the elite guard Chozo-X had the means to escape the planet on one of the stationed Chozo space crafts but instead chose to fight Samus.
In relation to that one chozo warrior. I think that the reason they stayed was because they were the most loyal and skilled members of raven beaks army, there's a gallery art of at least one of them being depicted as a stand out amoung the rest of ravens soldiers. So I think they stayed because to them it was more important to stay loyal to raven than escape with their lives
X have an instinct to fight off Metroids as they’re the only viable threat to the parasite. They also gain the intelligence of their host. So the infected warrior Chozos likely knew to stay put and wait for the last Metroid rather than leave quietly so an army of Metroid could be built up to hunt them later. I mean it didn’t work but that was likely the thinking.
@@ProjectEchoshadow I agree with this, the X probably actively stayed specifically because they instinctively wanted to kill Samus as their first priority; expanding beyond the planet could come after.
@@vbarreiro One definitely has to wonder if there actually was a chozo guard or other X smart enough to hide itself away though, as a contingency plan of sorts. In a way I doubt it, but y'know, it's hard to say for certain if Samus really took down all the guards or not, especially considering how the SA-X replicated itself in the previous game, proving that there could be more unseen X-cores getting up to their own plans. Just possible food for thought, really.
@@norrecvizharan1177 hell, i wouldn't be surprised if some remnants of SA-Xs survived at all...until the end of the game i was expecting some sort of return even as a "ghost" or "an interactive flashback"...like a dream-dungeon sequence...some sort of "the Metroid DNA is awakening and Samus is dreaming about consuming Xs back on the BSL" and we play a segment, like Samus vs SA-X or something like that XD
Seeing Samus actually have her Metroid DNA go berserk was awesome. She is really is THE Metroid, so I guess calling her Metroid wouldn't technically be incorrect since it means "Ultimate Warrior".
45:38 The way Samus was first about to drain the creature's energy was so instinctual. Haunting to know what you need to do but not know why. Next game should be called Metroid Instinct!
You can even see how terrified and confused Samus is afterwards. The subtle movements of her armor indicate heavy breathing, which is not something she normally does even after all of her continuous incredible athleticism. I mean, sure, she gets over it quickly and learns to use it, but in that moment, you realize that Samus is legit scared of the fact that she's not fully in control of herself. It clearly took a lot of effort to hold herself back.
@@benjoffe948 agreed. That would be a perfect new mode for her. Being able to balance out this dangerous new instinct to act as a parasitic vampire, to regain life force. But able to then drain its hunger by starving it at full health at the cost of taking increased damage.
The ultimate "show, don't tell" progression of Samus in her conflict with Raven Beak: 5:54 - Samus hits Raven Beak and cracks his eyepiece. Raven Beak is unfazed. 53:09 - Samus destroys Raven Beak's helmet and gouges his eye. Raven Beak is in agony. Note the fact that Samus got strangled twice by Raven Beak, and Samus also hit Raven Beak in the same spot twice. It's a kind of setup and payoff I respect in a story. :D
I also just realized why she was so insistent on going for Raven Beak's right eye. It's the only place where she can make proper contact because of that crack and therefore allow her Metroid ability to work. Another interesting tidbit is how right before this, Samus takes a huge leap into the air when Raven Beak is down instead of, you know, dashing in. That's a big no-no in combat because it gave her a slower, more predicable trajectory, allowing Raven Beak to counter. It's a subtle hint at how her Metroid instincts are overriding her logic when she sees that the enemy is weakened.
@@jthedarkwolfxtreem i think its from fusion onwards cuz the baby thing its unknown what it actually did Then in fusion she literally gets Metroid DNA in her body
Ok so. This just hit me but. The big twist at the end where Raven Beak was revealed to have been manipulating Samus throughout the game by pretending to be ADAM? It's foreshadowed throughout the entire game. For one, ADAM doesn't call her "Lady" once throughout the entire game after the opening scenes, despite having done so twice before the actual game even starts. He also has a bunch of weird word choices like "worthy adversary", which is kind of a weird way to warn somebody that they're no match for their enemy. And he tells Samus that Raven Beak must've re-activated the EMMI when the cutscenes have already shown that it was the doing of Quite Robe-X. It's staring you in the face for the entire goddamned game. I'm still not entirely sure what to make of Quiet Robe-X's EMMI reactivation and why it decided to help Samus at the end there though. Same goes for the SA-X from Fusion. Maybe there's something more to the X that we haven't been told yet? Like, thinking about it, most of the life forms on SR388 were feral, right? Maybe taking on the memories of a host with sentience has a different effect on the X over time?
The Sa-X makes sense in Fusion because it’s been shown from the ejected secret lab that the Sa-X prioritize threats and see the Metroids as a bigger threat to them than Samus, ignoring her when Metroids are in the room. In the final cutscene the Sa-X identified the greatest threat, the Omega Metroid, and tried to take care of it. Here is a little more vague, other people said maybe the Chozo can control the X to an extent? Not 100% sure.
Correct, Samus was unwittingly following orders from Raven Beak the entire time after she loses communication with the real ADAM at the bottom of the elevator at the beginning. Unintentionally poor choice of words by ADAM starting at 4:47 to allow Raven Beak to establish communications once she reaches the network connection room. It's established canon lore that the X inherit the memories of the host they assimilate. I'd like to think it's less the X acting charitably and more that it's acting on instinct off of its hosts' memories which happened to be helpful to Samus in the situation. There will always be room for interpretation in the ending (according to Sakamoto to hint at future sequels) but I think the red X "sacrifices" itself to allow Samus to survive at the end because having the memories of Quiet Robe gave it the capacity and compulsion to do what the real Quiet Robe would've done in that situation (ie salutes Samus in gratitude, then integrates his Thoha knowledge into the Power Suit to suppress the overactive Metroid phenotype that was preventing Samus from controlling the ship).
This twist bums me out a bit since I was actually looking forward to ADAM's presence in this game. I have plenty of opinions on his human self in Other M, but the Fusion version is very nostalgic to me. That said, I'd argue this twist probable makes Raven Beak the most developed villain in the Metroid series BY FAR since you (unknowingly) interact with him on a regular basis.
I think q.r-x turned on the emmi so samus could get in more practice while also obtaining the necessary power ups to help her on her mission on ZDR. Especially when she is able to learn how to use her newfound metroid powers, so she can use them later on.
@@playstationarusu I still think you’re splitting hairs at complaining about a single vowel, but I have to give you credit for getting a cackle out of me with your response. That’s some wit right there.
35:55 This is my favourite one. This is when I truly felt the titular dread, seeing the Xs escape while Samus observes in terror and they emit those cheerful sounds, chills. And then to see Quiet Robes being infected, alongside the planet ecosystem, it really sends a shiver down my spine.
The more you try to kill soneone, the more like them you become..... not speaking fron experience or anything..... definitely not out here killing people
BRUH THATS WHAT I THOUGHT. As soon as I saw the cutscene of the D escaping I was like “Well I fucked up- Adam’s gonna chew my ass out.” Then Adam’s like “Oh looks like Raven Beak released the X” “Haha… Yea right, Raven Beak did it… Haha.”
@@thogurus192 My headcanon is that Adam knows Samus fucked up but is basically saying "if the federation asks, we're gonna say it was Raven Beak. we cool?".
@@tomnookyankees3761 SPOILERS It was never Adam. Adam, or at least the Network Stations, had been hacked by Raven Beak since the beginning of the game. All of Dread is just one gigantic experiment by Raven Beak to have Samus go through a lot of shit in order to awaken her Metroid genes after triggering the reaction during their initial confrontation. This is why she's been manifesting energy absorbing capabilities throughout the whole game. Raven Beak was just playing the part of the evil scientist making Samus run around like a rat in a maze until she became strong enough.

I mean considering the first solution that the Thoha tribe had after sealing away the Metroids in SR388 was to blow up the whole thing, I’d say that part runs in the DNA
What's really crazy is that Nintendo really built 35 years of Metroid/Chozo lore for this very moment (or realistically, remained very dedicated to the information they provided till now).
My only issue is the ice beam - metroid DNA conundrum. Other than that, I don't really think there's any continuity issues. I remember not liking fusions implications for direction of the series years ago as a kid, but this game really made me happy I was wrong.
Okay, as someone that has played every Metroid game, this is the best one. They really did justice to the Metroid franchise while bringing new features to it. It really seems like they pulled all the stops to create this masterpiece.
I didn't think that Nintendo would ever top Super Metroid but I definitely think they just may have done it with Dread. Pretty much everything in the game was perfectly executed.
I'm so close to being right there with you....only thing is I have trouble putting it above Prime 1.... I'm personally left with saying this and Prime are tied for the best.
Ngl, this game is scary as hell! I know Nintendo said that they don't consider this a horror game. But to me, it fits right in with the horror genre in my book. Damn! And we all thought Fusion was terrifying!
I think it's the more grotesque things, examples being: the creature you get the phantom cloak from, blood, or something from its mouth before death, Kraid's stomach opening that fires the spines, the X possessing Quiet Robe's corpse, Raven Beak's X transformation. To me, it's not scary, just a little on the grotesque side. I can definitely see how it could be seen as scary
No.... Fusion is FARRRR more scary... this is *more* disturbing... Creepy, and disgusting. 😱 😱 😱 It's *like* Echoes, but a more lighter, less scarier.... version of it's presentation. Ironically... with *FARRRRR* less color... than it's predecessors ... Tho... Still quite --- *NIGHTMARISH.*
@@Need_RnR You did not actually experience the game. The E.M.M.I's are way more scarier than SA-X because once they reach you, if you haven't mastered the timing of the counters, you're screwed. And they are much faster and smarter than SA-X was in Fusion too. Not to mention the fact that you have to deal with them more frequently than the SA-X. There is literally constant dread every time you're about to go in a EMMI zone. You obviously either: 1) Have not ever been spooked by anything in real life. 2) Don't know what scary means. Or 3) Haven't even ever played the game. I mean, if a 16-bit sprite graphic game scared you more than a game much more detailed more realistic like style graphics, you clearly need serious help. Fusion gave the players the sense of fear, but it wasn't ever actually scary. Creepy sure. But not scary. Dread is both! EMMI's a terrifying when you first encounter them. And what's scarier is that they only become more dangerous with each one you encounter. And Dread is also creepy because Samus is constantly spied on and stalked by Raven Beak pretending to be her AI clone of someone she lost and loved dearly. And finally, it is terrifying and creepy when Quiet Robe gets replaced with a creepy X clone and that clone then proceeds to reactivate the much dreaded EMMI. The game constantly puts you a position where you don't feel safe. Then gives a period of time of safety, where you don't have to worry about the scary EMMI anymore. Only for the EMMI to be reactivated and your time of peace is gone. And on top of that, all the creatures have been replaced by the X. @@Need_RnR How about you actually play the game and experience that yourself instead of watching a let's play. Yes, there a moments where you feel safe. But like in some horrors, those moments don't last. And are we really still ignoring the fact that Raven Beak quite literally stalked Samus and that all the Adam rooms were Raven Beak rooms all along? To me, that was very unsettling to find out. Maybe you need to be spooked in real life in order for this stuff to feel genuinely scary to you. I mean, if you came across an EMMI or anything like an EMMI coming after you in real life, wouldn't you be scared for your life? I know I would. You do realize that once the EMMIs reach Samus, she's dies, right? They're not like most enemies that you can just easily blast away quickly and move on. They require a special weapon to defeat them. And you have to find that weapon every single time except for the last one, which Samus then just resorts to her Metroid power. Before that moment, you're always constantly on the run for your life whenever entering an EMMI zone while the EMMIs are active. It's not like Fusion where you only encounter the SA-X a few times or Echoes other than a few encounters with Dark Samus, the only other threat is the atmosphere of Dark Aether. Occasionally you encounter Dark Pirates but as you progress, you eventually grow strong enough to deal with them quite easily. Now, obviously Dread is nothing compared to Silent Hill, but it's still terrifying as hell at times. Especially when the X enters the equation. You really get that sense of "Oh my God! What did I just do? Why were there X in there?! Oh no! This is not good! What have I done?!" once you reach part where Samus accidentally releases the X because she didn't know they were being kept at Elun later in the game. Maybe you just have a weird definition for scary but going by the actual definition, Dread IS scary! Seeing the X be unleashed and the EMMI being reactivated by Quiet Robe X, plus all creatures replaced with X versions as a result really struck fear in me the first time I saw that. That late part of the game really gives a sort unsettling vibe to me. Fusion doesn't give me that feeling as much. And neither does Echoes. Especially once I'm stronger, later in the game. Dread is like Ocarina of Time but darker. You already have the EMMI. But later on, you have both the EMMI and the X to worry about. Plus Raven Beak! And the EMMI means instant death! As you progress, you realize more and more just how very much alone you actually are in the game. Especially when playing knowing that Raven Beak had been the one stalking you as Adam the entire time. And only one who Samus could really trust gets replaced by an X.
Just beat this game about an hour ago... can't stop thinking about it, I've played a bunch of the games, but this is my first one to completion. A masterpiece, everything felt soo good
i find it interesting how both chozo were infected by the X but both seemingly reacted very differently, the quiet and humble quiet robes parasite became an X that understood emotion willingly sacrificing itself to get samus off world even if it can be seen as an act to take away her powers it still could have let her stay stuck on the dying world, meanwhile ravenbeaks parasite seems entirely fuelled by power, combining most of the games bosses into a horrific amalgamation all the while repeating ravenbeaks motto “power is everything” likely showing the malice and power that the parasite had gained from ravenbeak i like it, it’s interesting
@@loginnathaneugh9412 same type at least, its possible its the same one as i dont think you even absorbed it in game, sort of just saw the core disentigrate in lava but the parasitye itself likely could have survived
Samus be like "Fuck it, I'll trade in my humanity for full Metroid powers. Sure. If I don't get Deus Ex Machina'd in the ending, they'll do it next game when I mysteriously lose all my powers....again."
Is this the first time a Chozo has actually been seen on screen? I know we've got official manga that goes into Samus' origins, but I don't think we've ever seen them in the flesh on screen before, just their ruins and remnants.
You technically see them in flashbacks in Metroid: Zero Mission in the scene where you reclaim your armor in the Chozo Temple. You see Old Bird and a young Samus. This is definitely the first time we see a living one in the present day, however.
Out of all the suits Samus has donned throughout the Metroid series, the Metroid Suit at the end has to be the COOLEST (no pun intended) and most badass suit I’ve ever seen! I absolutely love it! My only complaint is that there apparently wasn’t enough of it in the game. I haven’t played the game yet. Hopefully it’ll return in future 2D Metroid titles.
Its perfect on its own way. Its like when you got the hyper beam on super metroid. You would be too broken to face any enemies, and that would have killed the fun
I imagine that her Metroid suit will be either an entire alternate costume, or just an alternate color-theme for her suit inspired by this, in the next Smash; potentially even a part of her final Smash. It's an aesthetic that will probably show up again in the future.
It has been said that this is just then end to an arc and that more games are in the future. Given the ending and Quiet Robe's final actions in giving Samus the ability to control her Metroid powers, it wouldn't surprise me if in a future game, Samus has a "Metroid Mode" and or the ability to temporarily/permanently steal abilities/power from enemies. We've already seen something like that in this game where she drains the cores for the power necessary to destroy the EMMI robots. I could see that as an interesting gameplay mechanic where you have to drain certain enemies in order to progress. We'll see what happens next mission.
Her having this ability opens up future plots for the series - ones not involving chozo statues needing to be on every planet in order to explain how she gets upgrades. Now the metroid DNA can simply 'absorb' the essence or power of a boss and enemy. Hell it even helps to explain how her suit can absorb 'energy' for health and such. Kinda like how in fusion the x were used as an in game reason to refilling her health
I have a feeling this might not be the last time we hear of the Chozo as well. The more i think about how Samus had both Thoha and Mawkin DNA, the more i'm convinced the former(which is confirmed to have control over the metroids) had genes that may have been resistant to the X parasites, letting Samus get vaxed in time in Fusion. Maybe the Thoha had much more control than they originally thought.

Samus speaking Chozo had me giddy as hell. Was so glad to hear her break the silence again for the first time since Other M, however brief it may have been. Just a really cool moment I was not expecting.
Raven Beak’s X form is absolutely monstrous, completely out of nowhere…unless the X that infected him is the same X that plunged into the lava pool when you restored the lava flow on Cataris. It’s plausible that only the Core X’s shell was destroyed in the lava and was able to escape. I find it strange that Samus decided to blast it instead of absorbing it per her Metroid instinct. I guess in that moment she assumed it was possible that she would absorb Raven Beak’s Mawkin DNA and therefore making her condition worse.
The X that took over Raven Beak was the one who also took over Kraid, yeah. With Samus disintegrating this particular X, she just hated Raven Beak that much for his massacre of the Thoha Tribe.

And to make matters worse, you're not just running from the Emmi, but a creature clad in Chozo armor who straight up wrecked you as soon as you landed on the planet. It wrecked you at full power. now you've got basically nothing. and what's worse, IT'S STILL OUT THERE. Hell, even the game mechanics are based around fear. to defeat fear, you need to charge it head on, and what's the big amazing thing you can do as samus? Smack things with a melee counter. pulling that off is so gratifying, but also very dangerous. which means it still doesn't take away from the fear you feel. especially with the Emmi. when they catch you, (and trust me, there WILL be times they get you) you're a caught animal, and you've only got 1 shot at survival. and it's not great odds either. the most terrifying thing however, is how the Emmi adapt to your playstyle. and the best example of this is with the green emmi. for the first 2, you could easily get around them by sliding into areas they couldn't reach. but now? Now this green one shows off the fact that not only can it do that too, but it can do it better by crawling, getting into vents YOU CAN'T. turning one of your greatest advantages into a new weapon. you are NEVER invincible in metroid dread. even during the end when you've got everything, the game still makes you very much afraid. Dread lives up to it's name.
If the X parasite was terrifying in Fusion, it is even more terrifying now! Ok... So once again the X saved Samus... Although she was completely merged with its predator (badass as fuck BTW)... Looks like those theories about the reason why SA-X saved Samus back in Fusion might be closer to the nose than what we may think... RIP Quiet Robe X. You showed up in one game and you've wrecked so many people's heart.
It is either a plot hole, or the parasite thought it could save itself/its species by neutralizing her Metroid frenzy and escaping with her/preventing her from killing the rest of them.
@@T4nkcommander It's mentioned that X inherit their Host's Memories. I think by taking Quiet Robes as a Host it accidentally inherited Quiet Robes' Morality and Compassion.
@@ultrawinggaming9764 It the same lore dump it is said the X-parasite retains its own will (doesn't inherit the soul), thus they are still an X-parasite in behavior - as evidenced by all the previous examples being hostile.
@@T4nkcommander This whole topic about the X behavior could have it's own video itself. Like, first the SA-X then Quiet Robe, although it is more likely that Quiet Robe, being a Chozo, and a Thoha scientist, somehow found a way to "live" through the X take over. Kinda forgot at the time how many times, even in death, the Chozos somehow live on or help Samus out. Perhaps the X take over wasn't enough to change that.
I think the X-Parasites are just planning something again, like trying to help Samus eliminate the threat again, first it was the Omega Metroid and now herself, if she cant use her metroid powers then there is no more metroids after all
@@MarioLuigi0404 the evidence is all on my side :P Only hardcore Nintendo and Metroid fanboys would believe otherwise. Ugly graphics, bland levels, tons of repeated bosses/minibosses, too short, worst music in the series.. But have fun settling for mediocrity
@@wallacesousuke1433 The gameplay is phenomenal, the world design is great, and the actually bosses are amazing. The EMMIs are some of the most terrifying enemies the series has yet seen. Your points are all minor nitpicks and the graphics one is objectively wrong.
Reminder: Samus did not blow up Zebes, Mother Brain had the planet rigged to blow. Phaaze is still around, but permanently dormant. Dark Aether was a pocket dimension, thus doesn't count. Raven Beak also had ZDR rigged to blow as a last resort measure. The ONLY planet Samus willfully destroyed was SR-388.
I cried when the scientist offered himself as a sacrifice. That means he probably knows how to control both the Metroid AND X parasite!! ok, Hear me out people: During the final stages of fusion, It was confirmed by Samus that the X copy the body, mind and consciousness, but NOT the soul. There was even an event where Samus had to fight an X copying a human scientist from overriding the space station boiler room. Seeing the way X behaved after copying Quiet Robe Chozo confirmed it for me: The Chozo scientists are special. Special in a way that they know certain things that others don't, even the other Chozo tribes. Which makes me respect them even more, there is a GOOD REASON why the Chozo scientists wanted to destroy the metroids. Because they knew: THEY KNEW what would happen if they were allowed to live; wars, catastrophic damage, even people like Raven beak wanting to use them. We've seen this in so many of the previous games: space pirates, Ridley, Mother Brain, the Galactic federation breeding program in Metroid Fusion. The scientists knew, they say much further into the future. R.I.P Quiet Robe
Actually the x Parasite that controlled the scientist's body knew about what was happening and helped Samus by reactivate the science bots so she can get their abilities and stop raven peak
I saw it kinda of the same way. For me, it was more like the X that copied Quiet Robe learned from its host over time. When it first copied him, it used his knowledge to turn on the EMMIs, so they could do what they were tasked to do (kill Samus). Killing off the last of its predators was its natural instinct. This is more evident by how it slowly reactivates the EMMIs, while repeating the last things Quiet Robe said, as if that is all it knows. But as time goes on (aka the rest of the game), it starts to learn more about its host through Quiet Robe's memories. His morals, his views. It started to understand why the Metroids were created (not to kill but to cull the X), the reason behind why the Thoha tribe wanted to destroy SR388 (the Metroids had grown out of control and were just as dangerous as the X) and the dangers both X and Metroids continued existences pose (as you said, wars, catastrophic damage, and those wanting to exploit them ie. Raven Beak, Space Pirates, the Conspiracy, etc.). It understood that neither species could exist. But instead of simply keeping Samus on the planet until the explosion took both of them, it allowed itself to be absorbed, allowing Quiet Robe's genes to suppress the Metroid DNA, thus allowing both the X and Metroids to live on in Samus. Not dead, but contained. In fact, you might say, because it chose the right host, this X developed a soul. But that, is open to interpretation.
That being said, I like your theory as well! It actually might explain why the X didn't take over Samus so quickly when they infected her in Fusion (aside from the X infecting both her and her Power Suit). She had Thoha genes that slowed the process down!
I like how the game subtly hints the plot twist at the end by not having Adam refer to Samus as "Lady" throughout most of the game. Never realized that until now.
Even if she barely speaks, Samus is just so damn sassy and adorable with her mannerisms. I love when she meets Quiet Robe she is about to shoot but he's gives her the "I'm a good guy look" and she just puts her gun down and sits like "Fine, okay"
Such disrespect for Kraid in this one, held hostage by the Mawkin, Samus doesn’t bat an eyelid at seeing him alive him unlike Ridley, she leaves him to die in the most nonchalant way? ADAM doesn’t acknowledge his appearance in their briefings(makes sense with the twist maybe?) and finally when he’s revived as a monstrous X copy at the end instead of a proper final boss we kill him in a cutscene.
It’s better than literally nothing, but yeah, was a bit disappointed by the ‘final boss’. Still, his ‘death’ seems ambiguous enough to leave room for survival, since the X could’ve used any one of his leftover projectiles as a DNA source to mimic him.
@@tranqle73 As much as I want Kraid to survive, it’s also very possible the main reason he was included was so that he could have a very obvious death, which would mark the end of all the space pirate leaders. Not to say the space Pirates don’t have a possibility of return in the future, but if the plan is to introduce a new enemy into the series, they might’ve wanted to tie up all the loose ends.
Holy shit the Adam reveal was hinted at so early! Adam, who always calls Samus “Lady” since the “awakening” in Fusion, calls her Samus in the very first terminal.
Honestly couldn't help but go "I fuckin knew it" at the end because of that, because the communications just felt so damn off. Like even though it's been years since I played fusion, I guess I must've replayed it enough to remember how he acted. Definitely feel like a fool for not thinking it was Raven Beak himself talking, but y'know, it just wasn't surprising either.
53:08 Goddamn, that scream of rage is so epic! I've never played the Metroid games, only informed myself of the story recently and skimmed through this, but fuck, even though I'm a casual, I love this scene!
52:57 - This plot twist would have been so much cooler if Raven Beak had revealed that HE was the one who secretly ordered Ridley to attack Samus’ home colony and killed her parents. I know he didn’t actually do it, but if he DID do this and revealed this to her just before she blacked out, this would have been the perfect catalyst to trigger her Metroid Transformation and given her a much more personal reason to kill him.
@@kemanorel3110 well, the scenario I’m outlining here is a “What if?”. I know full well he didn’t work with the space pirates in the original story, but I’m asking WHAT IF he did, and he finally revealed that fact before he was going to kill Samus and it set off her Metroid Transformation because she finally had the grand architect of her parents murder and the destruction of her home within her grasp and if she was going down, she was damn well taking him with her. Think of it as a kind of fan-fiction.
@@kemanorel3110 Agreed. His insulting use of "my daughter" just because he was there to oversee her Chozo blood infusion was just throwing salt on an open wound.
And in a way its his own damn fault. He has access to all the same abilities as Samus, but never uses the morph ball because its not overtly powerful and "power is everything". But the morph ball can be used to pretty good effect in this fight, making one particularly dangerous attack miss you entirely and the power bombs being able to delete another of his dangerous attacks. But more importantly, the only known way to get a Metroid off your skull after its latched on is a *morph ball bomb*. Which due to his own hubris, he didnt have. So his only option was the panicked flailing of an inevitable defeat. (Side note: the realization that one has crossed a line somewhere should really occur at some point *before* Samus Aran has grabbed you by the face and started screaming at you in rage. Just saying.)
I caught something at the start when the ship was approaching the planet, the GF sent Samus in, meaning she is not labeled a criminal like many thought after Fusion.

What helps in the beginning they make sure Adam says lady twice before the game starts to help people who hadn’t play fusion can still pick up on the foreshadowing
The real Adam also called Samus by name during the events of Fusion. He only starts calling Samus Lady just before the end of the game.
@@ziqi92 Yeah, after he regained "sentience" and disobeyed his Federation orders when Samus accidentally called him "Adam". The few times he refers to her after that, he calls her "Lady".

So true and funny
And I think he was trying to talk her out of it, too. But then gave in and just asked her to treat the EMMIs with care.
"... Lady, you have a track record of literally blowing up any planet you step on. I'm not sure this is worth it anymore."
Makes sense considering the Adam computer contains some of amount of the care the original Adam had for her.

We have never ever heard Samus do something like that, but it really showed her rage and willpower in that moment.

@@ZenoDLC God tier comment

They really did a good job giving the eyes and eybrows a lot of expression.

The ultimate "show, don't tell" progression of Samus in her conflict with Raven Beak:
5:54 - Samus hits Raven Beak and cracks his eyepiece.

You obviously either:
1) Have not ever been spooked by anything in real life.
2) Don't know what scary means.
Or
3) Haven't even ever played the game.

THIS is why it’s called Metroid

@@positivelink6961 that may be why I love it so much
I imagine that her Metroid suit will be either an entire alternate costume, or just an alternate color-theme for her suit inspired by this, in the next Smash; potentially even a part of her final Smash. It's an aesthetic that will probably show up again in the future.
At 36:10 when I got to that part and saw the X escaping I was like “Ohhhhh, I fucked up”
It has been said that this is just then end to an arc and that more games are in the future. We'll see what happens next mission.
they gave her a devil trigger
This would be so cool! Kinda reminds me of Mario Odyssey lol
Maybe the Thoha had much more control than they originally thought.
could see it working like Brave Fencer Musashi. Hit an enemy with the grapple beam, button mash to drain energy, get shiny but temporary new power.

after completing my first playthrough of this game, i now understand why it's called DREAD
this game is amazing at making you feel terrified. you feel horrified entering the emmi zones. this new enemy made you feel completely helpless, mostly because you were. in an Emmi zone, you're being hunted. you're no longer the brave awesome samus aran. you're that little girl who's parents ridley killed.

@@wallacesousuke1433 The gameplay is phenomenal, the world design is great, and the actually bosses are amazing. The EMMIs are some of the most terrifying enemies the series has yet seen.
Your points are all minor nitpicks and the graphics one is objectively wrong.
@@MarioLuigi0404 OMG.. Well, lucky you, I wish I could also enjoy subpar stuff
Another planet destroyed, in another game, do I hear 6? (Zebes, SR388, technically Dark Aether, Phaaze, and now this one)
@@Jarock316 Small details at best, she was still the cause in one way or another regardless on who pulled the trigger.
Ok Samus' yelling when attacking Raven Beak once the Metroid suit snaps on is kind of awesome kind of terrifying
I love the story elements in this game, glad it had those really cool Cinematic moments.
51:29 the way the final boss just yoinks his one wing right off was METAL!!! \m/
I cried when the scientist offered himself as a sacrifice. That means he probably knows how to control both the Metroid AND X parasite!!
ok, Hear me out people:
During the final stages of fusion, It was confirmed by Samus that the X copy the body, mind and consciousness, but NOT the soul.
Maybe he foresaw his own death too
@@Jahof20s well said!
Kraid is bound in chains but he still fights for his meal.
A boy's gotta eat, after all!
Samus officially has a super form.
Correction "devil trigger"
She went Super Saiyan
Rip and tear until it is done
she has had multiple super forms technically...most of which are due to metroids...huh
You could say she's a...
SUPER Metroid.
To this day, I can't get over the Kraid sequence. There's so much visual story telling in that relatively short moment. They absolutely nailed it.
Yeah, poor Kraid was almost just being put down like a dog behind the shed at this point
F
@@tranqle73 she’s fought kraid multiple times why would she be surprised. You could tell from her body language she was like o great this guy again
considering ZDR exploded I doubt Kraid or any mimicking X's would have survived
Holy shit the Adam reveal was hinted at so early! Adam, who always calls Samus “Lady” since the “awakening” in Fusion, calls her Samus in the very first terminal.
Honestly couldn't help but go "I fuckin knew it" at the end because of that, because the communications just felt so damn off. Like even though it's been years since I played fusion, I guess I must've replayed it enough to remember how he acted. Definitely feel like a fool for not thinking it was Raven Beak himself talking, but y'know, it just wasn't surprising either.
1:35 I think I speak for a whole generation when I say.. SA-X is a physically deformed version of Samus, not just her in some Halloween lenses 😐
53:08
Goddamn, that scream of rage is so epic!
I've never played the Metroid games, only informed myself of the story recently and skimmed through this, but fuck, even though I'm a casual, I love this scene!
Samus pulling out the hyper beam at the end was perfect!
Imagine a "super E.M.M.I." with:
- Spider Magnet (White)
- Morph Ball (Green)
- Speed Booster (Yellow)
- Ice Missiles (Blue)
- Wave Beam (Purple)
- Power Bomb (Red)
21:09 , 39:22 "By the power of the Chozo. I have the power!" ;b Joking
52:57 Vergil (Devil May Cry) much? ;b Joking
You always know where Samus has been because there is nothing but rubble in her wake.
Why would he do that though? As malevolent as he is, there's zero reason for him to work with the Space Pirates.
@@mauricewatkins8968 Him spitting on the legacies of her biological father and Old Bird was more than enough to piss her off though.
@@kemanorel3110 Agreed. His insulting use of "my daughter" just because he was there to oversee her Chozo blood infusion was just throwing salt on an open wound.
@@neochozo And I'm glad Samus was just as pissed at that as I was, lol.
i know it's not supposed to be a funny moment but the way Samus just screams while dragging him around at the end made me crack up
Very anime
She's not dragging him, raven beak is thrashing her around trying to get her off after becoming a literal fucking facehugger but worse.
They never explain why
@@magicjohnson3121 I guess that's what Prime 4 might answer.
@@Jarock316 I wonder if prime 4 could theoretically come after dread. The ending of prime 3 shows sylux ship, however, so it would have to make sense with that timeline, which it doesn't.
Well, what are you gonna do, try and detain the woman who's notorious for blowing up any planets she goes on a mission on? She'll blow up the whole prison
@@ZenoDLC The ONLY planet she blew up was SR-388. Zebes, that was on Mother Brain rigging the planetary self destruct to her own life force. Dark Aether, was technically a pocket dimension that collapsed. Phaaze, still around but is technically dead with its phazon rendered inert.
DBZA vegeta: oh my god! She’s so damn cool!
I’m all for Samus speaking. And I’m pretty sure after this masterpiece of a game it’ll happen more often! As much as I’m in the minority that liked Other M, the monotone voice Samus had is probably one of the few things I’ll agree with the majority on. Lol
