There are 10 different sequence breaks too where you can get items before you are supposed to or skip things like the 1st EMMI. Not easy to do though, like actually really friggin technical some of it.
It doesn’t just master the gaslight, it innovates in Metroidvania. Something as simple as “follow the pipe once you power it up,” stupid and basic as it sounds, is genuinely cool and satisfying in of itself and something I haven’t seen before.
It’s more of a guided tour that nudges you in the right direction, as opposed to linear. There are absolutely purposeful sequence break options that you can access. All the jokes and editing are amazing (and like I said in other videos you've got yourself a new fan with this series), but my FAVORITE thing is seeing your amazement as Samus' increase in power throughout the game, going from dying constantly but sticking with it to saying "oh we have cheats now, we have a game shark, now we've unlocked Dev Mode" etc etc., like you see now one of the BIGGEST appeals of this series: You start small, weak and alone in a big scary alien environment, you die a ton, you learn, you grow, you progress, you expand, then before you know it you're reaching endgame and becoming so powerful you feel outright BROKEN compared to other video game heroes. And that's just how it ought to be. Especially given how much it matches Samus's 10/10 badass characterization in this game
This game is definitely balls hard for first timers, but I've come to find that the more you play it, the easier it gets, and that saying something! I actually managed to beat hard mode in the time required to get all three pictures! (Granted, I used a buncha sequence breaks, but the game is still hard) ...and yet, it is _still_ easier than Hollow Knight!
It really says something that if you described all of Samus's abilities at the end of the game, they would seem *insanely* broken and overpowered, but Metroid Dread is so hard that they're practically required to have a fair challenge against the game's bosses.
I haven’t played many Metroid things, but I swear by Metroid Zero Mission. I still have the cartridge to this day. Beaten up, unlabeled, still working. Adore that game with all my heart. Have it on my 3DS too.
The bosses in this game are so much fun. You'll almost never beat them first try, but once you get their patterns down you feel so bad-ass dodging everything they can dish out and smacking them down! Loved it so much! If you're hungry for some pain, Choc, I'd recommend the 0% run, where you don't grab any missile or energy tanks. It's really rewarding and not nearly as hard as I thought. I'm nowhere near as good at gaming as you are and I was able to do it on Hard Mode.
The combat flow in the game reminds me of Doom and Doom Eternal. You are rewarded for keeping the pace and making tricky maneuvers like counters with health and ammo refills, so you can recover from a mistake as well.
Hard disagree, the bosses are the worst part of the game by a long shot (Ravenbeak excluded) They take and give way to much damage and often feel like they need bigger arenas.

PLEASE play metroid prime trilogy! they are incredible and lots of content.
I second this notion
@@charlesglensworth8601 I third this notion. especially with the switch port.
40:01 my EXACT reaction when i successfully did that on my first playthroughs until i got the first chance like 30% of the time
I have watched this video three times now lol. You convinced me to pick the game back up. I was a little intimidated after my first attempts at the game but seeing you have so much fun made me want to try again
18:16 Finally, someone else who thinks so
I love how he shot the energy tank at first
I think he's almost done with this game
I would like to see how you like Metroid Zero Mission, it's the canonical start of this saga and the gameplay is also tight as Hell.
Choctupos: I didn’t miss it was just one of doctor stranges ulternate realitys
Also choctapus: don’t miss this time
41:20 If you manage to sequence break for the space jump, screw attack, and gravity suit before you take out this EMMI, this area is frickin _trivial!_ LMAO
41:48 You can also screw this bug with the screw attack. Lolz
@@esmooth919yeah I've seen people just FARM escue with screw attack. Apparently with shinespark you can one shot the experiment too.
@@CALAMITY0FHYRULEit's hard AF, tho...at least for me. I dislike that boss
@@esmooth919 I haven't tried. It doesn't seem that difficult tho, if you use the booster during flappy bird phase
@@esmooth919really? Not judging but personally that’s my favorite boss, challenging for sure but if you know the mechanics well the games heavily rewards you. Even in dread mode I enjoyed it.
Choc, I know this coment is 2 years late, but I just wanted to say I love your playthrough videos like this. I never really watch let's plays, but this is very entertaining simply because you have a very fun, laid back vibe that keeps sucking me in. Never change!
Thanks for the kind words! Don't worry, I read all my comments lol
Always love to see an interaction like this. Rare to see a UA-camr so interactive with their community as choc in the comments.
Also you should play dread mode, your pain is hilarious.
@@MightyMageGames Bill Cipher reference?
Samus would either make a great or terrible exterminator depending on the amount of pests, since every planet she steps on for a mission just explodes and that wouldn't be the best if you just wanted some space rats trapped
She's only blown up 4 of the planets she's visited, 2 of which weren't her fault.
@@esmooth919 out of how many planets
@@esmooth919 Plus she saved some animals from one of them, so she didn't really destroy EVERY life form.
I subbed because of this. Hilarious. I’m currently on the final boss and yeah I’ve died to pretty much every enemy in the game at least once.
Definitely do Metroid Prime. I recently started it myself and it's awesome!
Bro wtf is that EMMI cheese at 6:00
Literally had me dying 😂
The final boss fight was WILD. Samus is such a cool character. Its a shame her smash playstyle sucks...
Nice, I really appreciated how your first run mirrored mine reactionally. It really does feel like a horror game in the first half. I love this game, spent so many hours on it. Might check out your other stuff. Thanks dude.
“Not backwards compatible with regular missiles.” That made me laugh so hard
The funny thing is that they are though.
@@easymodegamer501 But they aren't backwards compatible with regular missiles outside of Fusion and Dread.
Raeven beak: Power...is everything
Samus:*shows power
Fun fact you need to press the peri in the exact time the emmi does the beep so u can escape
Halirously.
Samus and Doomguy have the Exact same number of voiced lines.
Samus has a comforting remark, and a Scream to match a Super Syain.
And doomgun has "Unf" and "No"
"Spin Boost? That's not what I wanted!"
~Everyone who played Dread
To answer one of your questions...Super Metroid is definitely still fun and worth playing even after Dread. It's still THE perfect Metroid game IMO.
Super Metroid is great, but Dread has superior controls.
Super is good but the way samus moves is just not very well done, it feels slow and floaty, (yes I ve played super after zero mission) but even for the game the way samus moves just feels kinda unresponsive from my point of view
A metroid fusion playthrough would be pretty cool
Honestly, though, I love that you can attack during the cutscenes.
That Dante's Peak reference got you a like and a sub, my friend. You're the gaming community's own Pierce Brosnan. Whatever that means.
With Fusion one of my favorite games of all time, this game slingshotted me back to the early 2000's. This game is PERFECT.
Let us all vote this beauty for game of the year. I know I will haha
If I remember right the first EMMI encounter is the first encounter where you can take as long as you want to parry the attack to escape. I believe that normally you have about a split second to react in order to escape the instant death attack.
What i tought raven beak where going to say: "Im not sure how to break this to you but... im your dad"
What he actually said: "Im disappointed in you"
He really was like: I’m not mad just disappointed
6:00 it's crazy when the enemy sequence breaks to get to you faster
this game looks so sick, but I have to choose between this or brilliant diamond. what should I choose?
Metroid dread 100%
Depends what u like.. I got pokdmon cys I'm a huge pokemon mark even tho I rky wanted dread ass soon as I saw eni
THIS GAME
Metroid dread by far
Metroid Dread, absolutely.
I’ve never played Metroid but samus is one of the biggest badass I’ve ever seen
Glad I’ve finished the game dozens of times before watching this… but holy crap was it entertaining! 🤣
The fact that i have spent 12 hours on this game (so far) and still did not come to the onclusion to udse the flash shift to get over those blocks that break immediately. So i guess thanks for including that :)
"that was my friend! oh you're gonna pay."
Moments later:
"Can I just leave?"
choco:i can move underwater!!
me:couldn't you do that already?
"You have to fight a wall?"
I got terraria flashbacks from that
To answer your question, Super Metroid is a super fun game. It's much less linear and rewards exploration, plus its atmosphere is unmatched IMO.
Hah, Metroid Pinball. Yeah, that's a thing that existed, on the DS. It came with a rumble pack that went into the Gameboy slot.
Edit: LOL, he just said it
The "Bonk" soundbite at 4:25 during the whiffed E.M.M.I. parry had me howling lol
Funny is there actually is a pinball Metroid game (basically a retelling of the first prime game)
It makes me so happy that this is one of your most popular videos knowing how underrated Metroid is with Dread being the game with the most copies sold and that being only 3 million I really hope this vid gets to 1M views
Homeboy you got a hard mode on Metroid dread to beat
THERE SHE IS THERE METRIOD Samus: wtf did you just call me?
You should do the Prime Trilogy since Prime 4 is bring made!
6:00
E.M.M.I.: Omae wa mou… SHINDEIRU!
Samus: NANI!?
I think it would be cool if at the end of the game Ridley just circled your ship and didn't attack you just Reedley it for no reason
Ridley: [After watching Samus blast the shit out of everything with her metroid suit] Yeah, I'm not going anywhere near that
Problem is, he's dead.
39:16 I just love it hows hes panicking by shaking the joystick like crazy and smashing buttons, it just makes me laugh
Hey look! choc finished his Samus Dread play through featuring Metroid!
Dude this game was so fun now I wanna play it again
now that I am done with the game, I can finally watch this.
