  • This fly imitates a crucial stage of Mayfly hatches and spinner falls: Drowned adult duns and spinners. Without a doubt Sunk Spinners are the most overlooked stage of insects in all of fly fishing despite the fact that they can be one of the most important. Whether you fish this fly just under the surface or right on the bottom, the sunk spinner will dramatically increase your hook ups when fished during a mayfly hatch or spinner fall.

Sir, After loosing all of my fly tying tools and hints I had accumulated over a span of years to a major barn fire I’ve started to restock my arsenal. But after years of being in limbo I decided that someone must do fly tying videos on you tube. Well damn if I didn’t come across your works of art. I’ve learned so much from you. And am getting my confidence back little. By little. I live in Virginia now, but was fishing the mountain streams around Mt. St. Hellens as a kid with a big eagle claw outfit. Here I am now starting over at 70. I have long and short term memory loss ...LOL...Anyway thanks for the great how to videos and your laid back attitude.Don’t have any questions at the moment.

Mr Galloup, you sir have been knocking it out of the park the past two tying seasons. I think I found the next book to read this winter, Cripples and Spinners.
    Well done, sir!

Mr. Galloup, I very much enjoy your tying videos !!! I'm going to through something on the table that may be a wee bit, different.
I'm 61 years old. Started fishing with bait at the age of 5. Moved to lures in my teens / late 30's. THEN, I moved to tying my own flies and teaching myself how to fly cast. In the last 56 years of fishing, I've taken and consumed many fish. I arrived at a point where that is no longer necessary. So, here's my gig. I leave the bend and hook point on a hook when I tie the fly, but, when the head cement is dry, I cut off the bend and point ;) In California, the Department of Fish & Wildlife definition of fishing IS: " using a line and a hook ". You see, I don't any longer need to take fish to hand, and don't need a license or permit to " cast ", however, the rare " grab " may happen. Now, at this point in my life, it's enough. Peace . . .

Another well thought out fly. I’ve got to agree with your comment that it’s ok to change things on a fly, but know why you’re changing them. It seems like so many people get frustrated because they either want to have every exact material for a fly, but forget to learn proper techniques; or folks will randomly slap crap onto a hook in effort to create a magic fly with no rhyme or reason for why they’re doing it, or they change it up based on how it looks in the vise instead of on the water.
Thanks for sharing. I’m looking forward to hearing Kelly’s streamer presentation at the Fly Fishing and Wingshooting Expo in PA in March.

Thanks again Kelly, your fly reminds me of some of the flymphs I love to use. I know some people are not into the CA glue thing, but I find I get a few more fish out of a biot body fly if I apply a very thin ( a little goes a long way ) coating of glue before I wrap the biot. I use CA when I wind peacock herl, pheasant tail, biots and more. I use it even when I counter wrap with a rib. In my experience it takes just a bit longer to apply the glue but results in a more durable fly that is worth the added time.

Nice , just about any fly I experiment with when I first tie it I put them in water to see how they look and act . It amazes me how different they can look when wet . Observing a hatch and just watching what's going on really has helped me have a better understanding of the different stages of the insect . I guess that's what makes tying so rewarding especially when what you thought would work does :-) keep up the great videos.

Camera angle is perfect, should go back a film some older videos again as this angle gives a better perspective.
