Doc Ellis' dry flies were the best I've ever seen. Perfect proportion, absolutely nothing out of place. Another great video, Kelly.
Nice pattern. Very similar to Gary Lafontaine's diving caddis, although that pattern lacks the egg sack. As explained in Gary's book, "Caddisflies" the brightness of the antron is important because the female caddis grabs an air bubble on is hairy wings when it dives under the water. For that reason he tied the antron on top of the hackle. The brightness may also mimic an emerger, so you you get two stages of the life cycle in one. The egg sac may add to the effectiveness of the pattern because it tells the fish that there's a lot more nutrient there. Looking forward to tying it and using it.
You can generally pick the color for the egg sack by looking at your waders and boots. They are usually covered with caddis eggs (little bright green blobs). You will often find the caddis flying upstream and crawling down you waders.(At least that's what the fall caddis do in Arkansas.)
This may be the first fly pattern that I actually have all of the materials for and don't need to go out and purchase something. Thanks again Kelly for another well demonstrated fly tying video!

Thank you Mr. Gallop for this pattern !!! I just happen to be tying a series of soft hackle wet flies using partridge, grouse, and California Ringneck Pheasant hackles. This will be a great addition to the fly box I'm currently building . . .

Been tying a variation of this for years and as you say it is a code breaker . When the caddis are out best to have these with you , either way behind a dry or dead drift nymph . It's really fun when you dead drift and lift at the end of the drift and they slam it on the way up .💥pow

A great Fly pattern for a wet.
I'm just starting to get a little more serious about learning how to fly fish, and tie flies. I haven't looked through all your videos yet, but do you have one on how you make up your dropper setup behind your dry fly? Does the dry have to be much larger then the wet? Thanks, Mike
Yet another superlative video! BUT, where is your dog?! Time for another guest appearance.
Caught dozens of rainbows and browns on the Madison...never used 2 flies. The dropper and line will wrap around a fish when you hook a fish on the dry and injure the fish. Regulations SHOULD BE...one fly only! Also when a fish swirls at a dry and misses, the dropper will often hook it after the fish turns in the droppers line.
How do you tie your dropper fly?

Almost anything actually, I generally start with a double wing caddis dry and then when they switch over to the spinners I will run found link and put the downed caddis below that. KG

I have caught 95% of my fish during the caddis hatch with this fly..it sucks. Im almost tired of trying other flies because none of them work as well.
