Tying The Compara Spinner with Kelly Galloup

  • The Compara Spinner was created by combining two of Dave Ellis’s patterns:The Triple Wing Spinner and the Hi-viz Compara Dun. I found that I was having trouble keeping an eye on the low riding spinners so I dropped a wing off the triple-wing spinner and added the Hi-Vis compara wing to the front of the fly. The fish see the shape of a spinner and you see the wing as well. - Kelly

All these little bug videos and I just bought a new spool of articulation wire... Love them too!

amazing fly design- so functional. Your Trico comparadun / spinner is fantastic. Way way more effective to fish that instead of a parachute adams with a spinner trailing-- you get a better drift and the fish take the fly just as confidently as they take a spent wing pattern.

Well done Kelly! I just finished 4 dozen spinners in all the sizes and colors from last week and now I have to start on these. Good problem to have this time of year :-)

Thank you as always for sharing your immense knowledge. I would appreciate if you could show us how to tie Turk's Tarantula.

    Kelly, THANK YOU!
I recently found you and your tying videos.
I tied a few of these compara-spinner and a few spinners, following along with your instructions...
A hand full in black and a handfull in a light green/yellow-ish color...
Took them out to one of the best streams in Northern California- knocked them dead all morning!
    Thanks for the instructions!
    Keep up the good work!
Any chance to get you to do a video on tying a stimulator?

It would be great to see a video like you did with deer hair, but about the synthetic smorgasbord. What is the difference for dry fly/floatability between: z-lon, antron, EP 3d, EP trigger point, sparkle merger yarn, poly yarn, poly pro yarn, para post wing ETC!
I have tried to test some of these by tying them to a hook and treating them with Hydrostop, then deciding my experiment didn't work or they don't really float.

Just tied some of these up nice patter. I did a few with a traditional deer hair compara wing and z-Lon spinner wings. Was wondering if you have tried this. Thanks for the great videos

I just broke my vise. Is there a decent cheap one that you would recommend. Under 100 dollars?

Does the waxed thread add to the floatation of the fly? At least in comparison to unwaxed thread.

Would you consider tying this in a rusty brown/orange color?

Absolutely. You can change the body and wing color to whatever you want.

Great pattern. I'll tie some of these up. I frikkin love the found link. I tie as you do and it just hammers fish where I have fished it in PA, MT, and WY. By the way, the found link flies you sell in your shop don"t look like what you tie or I copy. I bought some and they are way less deadly. Just sayin'. Where's the quality control guy??

    • @TheSlideinn
      @TheSlideinn  4 роки тому

David, ya I know sometimes they lose a little control over there is fly tying land.Try to keep up on them but we do get a few ships that are not as good as other. KG
