Thanks a million for this video. I was finally able to change the 'banana' control arms on my 2013 A8L 4.0 over the weekend. only issue I had was to bend the bracket to let the bolt out...besides that, all good...and the sleeve for the bushing at the wheel popped out as I used a chizel to take it out...
Excellent video, thanks! I don't know about Sidem, but generally at least LEMFÖRDER is considered to be one of the best if not the best brand in control arms, bushings etc.
My skid plates had to come off due to missing clips but i noticed i have a leak before the steering rack starts. any ideas of a common oil leak problem aroun this area? 2013 audi a8l 3.0
At the very end you describe how you got the old ball joint out using the jack and you showed that too in the video. When you are putting the new ball joint in is it pressed in with a tool or does it slide right in?
Great video. Thanks for sharing your knowledge. I couldn't see clearly from the video what did you use for the car to set on, just a regular jack and a bottle jack on each side?
@@dumitrumalcoci7873 I had no problem removing bolts but a lot of people saying that’s hard to get it out. If it is, then just unscrew 3 nuts on the top and that will help to get the bolts out.
At 9:52 all is magically installed! But it isn't so easy! I have ball joint in and strut fork bolt in but the bolt to frame with the M14 head won't line up!
Great video ! inspires me to do my lower rear front arms, I think they are shot, still having vibration issues, less present when cold....how many kilometers/miles did your car have when you did this job ? thanks in advance !
@@DIYDime thanks for the quick response ! I am at 120,000km ...will investigate them this weekend, but I think they are done, seems common on A8 D4s ...
also did you tighten the bolds with the car up on the jack or once back on the ground...I read we have to tighten once the car is back down so rubber does not twist as we lower the car....@@DIYDime
The video cut out the part that I really needed, lol. How did you remove the upper control arm bolts? Did you have to remove the struts completely?? I removed the rear upper control bolt on one side by wigglling and using pliers to turn bolt once the head hit the strut....but it was a pain in the ass. I can't imagine doing the remaining three bolts like that.
I did not remove the struts out. It’s tricky but you can get them out. You will have to wiggle strut a little bit while you trying to get the bolts out
As he showed in the video the bushings are bad and need replaced. You can have new bushings pressed in the original arms but it's easier to replace the arms.
Way to go showing us how to remove the 2 most difficult bolts!

You're welcome!
Excellent! Thx for the legwork you've done for all of us.

Damn good video, bro!! And damn good video quality! Well done! Thank you!!
Thanks for the video!! Great help!!

Thanks for video.....
Great video. Congrats.. 1 question. Is necessary the ball join tool and where do you get? Thx for this video 👏👍
You can usually rent a ball joint tool from an Autozone or other store like those.
@@duckiesmusicreact thx for answer. How many time you take for replece that?

It’s slides right in and you can secure it by screwing nut in.
@@DIYDime I see now. There is a groove in the metal part of the ball joint and the bolt is against that groove so it can't come out.
Great video. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.

Yes
Is there enough room to work on upper arm bolts by just removing the wheel well cover, or is the air shock needs to be loosened as well?

I finally got it all lined up and job complete. NOT EASY!

160 000 miles but they were shot before that, I’ve been driving like that for little while.

Correct
How did you get the bolt that holds the 2 upper control arms to the spindle. My bolt broke in there.
My came out easy. Try to heat a little maybe.
Do you have to lose air strut when you replace upper control arm?
Yes I’ve tried wiggling the bolt out for UPP control arm but won’t come off 😢
