    You want to raise the knuckle with the jack before tightening the bolts on the inside end of the control arms. Don't tighten them when it is hanging. You'll tear the bushing inside when the car is resting on the wheels.

    Thank you for the details and taking the time for this video. A couple of comments: compressed air and air tools would cut the time down to 25% for this. The shock bushing bottom looks cracked and it will go next. For the $75 on a FEQ axle, I would also replace that -- you've done most of the work on this disassembly already. I would def. re-torque these bolts per spec - aluminum is very sensitive to bolt pressure. I saw a complete bushing kit for like $69 on one site - Did you look into a bushing only kit?

    Interesting D2 front uppers forward arms are straight not at 90 degrees - just of change the front suspension geometry from D2 to D3 slightly - for the air suspension perhaps.

    I had a 2007 A8L. absolutely loved that car but it had bad control arms when i bought it and they were expensive to replace.
    i'm now looking to get a 2011 A8 and was wondering if you had a checklist of things to inspect before buying?

    • @3dogs1monkey
      @3dogs1monkey  6 років тому +1

      2011 is a D4, I would prefer 2012 since it the first year they started to have foot trunk release. Try to get the one with massage seats since it's much better than the D3. Try to get one with driver assistant package and ACC. Other than that, the car is quite reliable as I understand. This would be the best place to check out www.audiworld.com/forums/a8-s8-d4-platform-discussion-190/

      Thanks for the advice. I love the 2011 styling over 2012 for some reason. I know the differences are subtle but something about the 2011 i really like. this is the actual car i'm looking at buying: www.uagdallas.com/web/1006/vehicle/2009919/2011-Audi-A8%20L-NAVIGATION
      what do you think?

    • @3dogs1monkey
      @3dogs1monkey  6 років тому +1

      Wow, it's beautiful, got everything I would want except it doesn't have Massage and AC seats. Love the dual sunroof and blind spot. That's deal breaker for me. I love the massage and AC seats. I'm so tempting to get one.

    • @ajmarketer
      @ajmarketer 6 років тому

      Yes I like this one. I don't have to have massage seats/ac seats, although it's a nice feature. it has the tv's for the kids and a control for them in the back which is always nice. I thought it was a fair price but they've already said they will come off another $1000 on it. I've missed my 2007 A8 a lot more than I thought I would so this is def. a step up for me. Thanks again for the advice :)

      Bobby Walker before you pull the trigger, try the massage and ac on a warm day, it may change your mind.

    I purchased new air struts, both upper controls arms, lower control arms and links for both fronts. I own a 2004 a8 but forgot to measure the riding height? What now? What was your measurements? Also you said lift and comfort so I'm not sure what setting either. I also thought you had to put it on jack mode?

    • @3dogs1monkey
      @3dogs1monkey  8 років тому

      +Kevin Abut jack mode and lift mode are a must. I forgot the height, but if you look at the square ruler, it's a standard 12" ruler. Raise the other side and measure it, they should be the same height.

      +3dogs1monkey thanks for the reply. My car is in jack mode and jacked up with front end already taking apart. With this said I cannot check measurements. What I did notice with you though is you didn't use VCDS to calibrate the suspension after work being done. Maybe because I have VCDS to code it into Mm from the middle of the wheel to the fender I don't need measurements?? Also where did you buy your fluid pump for oil change? I want one thanks.

      Go to the website: I own 2008 Q7 since new 51k miles now, only need 1 set of tires and $0 spent. Oil change 1 a year with Mobil 1. The most reliable car ever with all original parts while others spent tons of money to fix due to misused or 'operator errors'. My 2004 cabriolet is over 115k miles, original and working perfectly.
      www.dognmonkey.com/audi/
      All Audis are built the same. The most comfortable, fun to drive and extremely well built. People are selling these cars for nothing because they're sick of 'operator error' at dealers and independent shop who car tech illiterate.

      3dogs1monkey WoW is there alot of problems with them messing the Audi's up?
      I have a S class Mercedes-Benz that went to the dealership and tech took fuses out for me to spend more money on repairs.
      My 7series went to dealer for a/c not blowing good and got a bill for 2000 to replace blower motor, It turned out to be just two 50 dollars filters .

      alma rigney they're all the same, replace everything until it hit the right one on the owners expense. The day I can't do my own work, the day I buy Tesla. Mr. Musk is smart because he knows dealers will kill the car reputation. What's so hard for people not to follow ' if it's not broken, don't fix it' what the heck is 10k, 30k, 50k services? I see on the forum, people took a perfect running car to get 50k miles service, they screwed up the whole car from engine to brake system... cars need oil, check oil. Coolant, check coolant, brake fluid, check fluid. I can drive a car without changing oil with Mobil 1 for 100k miles by just topping it up... guaranteed. Well, let the people who don't want to get dirty pay for their mistake by taking their cars to dealers to have 'operator error'. It's a perfect world,.. LOL. My family don't even listen to me and the paid the price and hate me for 'I told you so'.

    • @3dogs1monkey
      @3dogs1monkey  7 років тому +2

      alma rigney W12 is the ultimate luxury car... can't go wrong with that. Get one with every option. Make sure it's not abused or over 'operator error' ed, because when a car is a walking wounded already, no fixing to get it back... buy a great car like I did, change oil every year and enjoy it. No maintenance, no flushing this, flushing that... don't touch a sealed system. When time comes to replace thing, then do it. Make sure to check in audiworld.com for any hiccup.

    What about audi attracted you to them ? Why not a Mercedes-Benz,BMW or Lexus?

    • @3dogs1monkey
      @3dogs1monkey  7 років тому +3

      alma rigney I had Mercedes S and 740, the newer MBZ and BMW are not well designed on both look and reliability, I don't consider Lexus luxury cars. Audis cars are well designed, reliable. Never follow - the cars are complex, mechanics actually need engineering mentality to work on them, but they don't, therefore, the more consumers take their cars to the shop for maintenance, the more they break due to 'operator errors'. As long as you understand how the system work, very little work needed to get Audis running for a long time with less cost than driving a Honda.

    • @3dogs1monkey
      @3dogs1monkey  7 років тому

      Yes, but the squeaky noise may come from the stabilizer bar bushing. Watch my other video. Can't tell which one caused the problem since I replaced them all. But the vibration did go away after all upper arms replaced.

    you are just wasting your time and alignment costs replacing one by one. replace all of them per "axle" front both sides rear both sides. when 1 goes, they all go. the stiffer new parts put more stress on the old ones left hastening the doom

    Don’t do this repair lol. Take it to a mechanic to do it. It will not be this easy for you if you live in the snow band. My pinch bolt will not come out period. I’ve had to drill it to get it partially out. I’m putting it all back together to have someone deal with it. It’s not worth it everyone

    • @drophit
      @drophit 4 роки тому

      Just drill it all the way back.from the bolt head side and pop the nut back on - hammer it out
