I remember as a young pup seeing my Parents really show signs of sadness when people that they followed on TV and in other area's of life passed away. They would be quiet and shell shocked and very sad. As an Adult pup I completely understand their grief. I'm grateful I was able to be alive and share the air with Mr. Gumbel. I have no ink on my body, but he will always be tattooed on my Soul! Stay Strong Everyone!

He is such an icon, he used to host the NFL today, the NCAA road to the final 4 etc. He is the older brother of Bryant Gumbel, although they are not close, they are still brothers and were civil to one another. It is unusual to have 2 brothers being famous broadcasters.
Condolences to Greg's family. He brought so much enthusiasm and knowledge to his broadcasts. I am sure his life off the screen was filled with the same decency and competence. He will be greatly missed.
Very sorry to hear that Greg Gumbel has died.. He was extremely proficient at his job.. And personality-wise, a HUGE breath of fresh air compared to his uppity acting brother, Bryant..
I must confess that I quickly forgot about him and didn't even notice his absence on TV, amidst the recent explosion of sports programs, sports journalists and sports analysts at the traditional and cable TV networks. It's also easy to forget when CBS no longer televises as many sports events as in the past when Greg Gumbel hosted some of the major events. RIP
