Greg Gumbel was ALWAYS there. He just was the epitome of class. I didn’t even know he was sick. Really going to miss you Greg. Thank you so much for so many memories. I know Coach Madden, Stuart Scott, Pat Summerall, Frank Gifford and countless others were at the gate awaiting your arrival. May your loved ones find peace until you meet again.
Mr. Gumbel never tried to make himself the story. He always tried to explain the event and showcase the talents and happenings unvarnished as they happened. He was truly a one of a kind sportscaster who could make you feel like you were getting a professional's eye view so you would not miss anything wherever he was on. Every time I saw Mr. Gumbel's face, I knew, this was going to be good. My condolences to Mr. Gumbel's family and friends. And to Mr. Gumbel, Thank You Sir.
The man was the NCAA Tournament ringmaster. When I was growing up you got one game; so watching Greg navigate the halftime highlights was as interesting as it was mandatory. "IN Albany.......TO New Orleans......FROM Tucson....."
Absolutely loved his commentary. He will never be replaced because he was one of a kind. Love to his family right now. His voice at march madness will never be replaced. Selection Sunday. No words, just respect. Rip legend!!!
Really a sad day to find out Greg Gumbel passed away yesterday. A true professional who was called it like it is just like John Madden. Enjoyed watching Greg do the NFL pregame show on CBS, March Madness, and NFL games. I'm sure Greg Gumbel is calling football games up there in Heaven with John Madden. R.I.P Greg Gumbel.
Same here. His voice was iconic, so many great moments watching the tournament with him calling the game. My favorite part was when he would announce "One Shining Moment" each year.
In one shining 🌟 moment Greg Gumbel was truly a sports pioneer and of course his brother Bryant followed big brother into sports broadcasting. RIP good sir and a, "Golden Microphone" awaits you in heaven.
His voice was like a nice cup of coffee...smooth but eliciting excitement. Loved hearing him read off halftime scores on NFL on NBC in the mid 90s. His work at CBS afterwards was fantastic as well.
Greg Gumbel... An pioneer sportscaster. We watch him in several Tennessee Titans game including game-winning kick from 60 yards to beat the eventual Super Bowl champion Colts in 2006.
Selection Sunday and March Madness, as well as the NFL on CBS, will never be the same without Greg at the mike. Rest in peace and thank you for 50 plus years of broacasting memories.
Greg Gumbel: one of the best announcers who ever lived. He was a part of my childhood. So sad now all of these great announcers are passing on. May Greg Gumbel Rest In Peace. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
R.I.P. Greg Gumbel. Please say hi to Pat Summerall, Dick Enberg, Curt Gowdy, Jack Buck, Hank Stram, John Madden, Bill Walsh, Joe Garagiola (Sr.), Fred Cusick, Vin Scully, Frank Glieber, Frank Gifford, Keith Jackson, Chris Schenkel, Lindsey Nelson, Charlie Jones, Foster Hewitt, Dan Kelly, Marty Glickman, Johnny Most, Chick Hearn, Howard Cosell, Gordon Solie, Pete Van Wieren, Harry and Skip Caray, Ray Scott, Ernie Johnson (Sr.), "Hot" Rod Hundley, Don Meredith, Ken Squier, Alex Karras, Tom Brookshier, Merlin Olsen, Jim McKay and Mel Allen when you enter the sportscasting heavens.

Rest in paradise 🙏🏾 Gumble a big part of my life watching you on television growing up. You will be missed in the sports community. Sending healing energy to your family ✨️ 🕊
He did PBP, but I think he was a far better studio host and probably among the best to ever do it. Smooth is a very apt description to his presentation and demeanor. Im glad to hear that he was as nice in person as he seemed on the air. God bless his family and God rest his soul.
True that-- that short clip of when he was on college football w/The Prudential College Football Report in '89 really set his mark, just as it did for Jim Nantz when Nantz did the same thing for four seasons from 1985 through '88.
I miss Greg Gumbel as the sportscaster. He called the games and joining Dick Enberg, Al Michaels, Mike Tirico, Brent Musburger, Keith Jackson and others. We miss you, Greg.
One of my favorite memories was when Greg worked at ESPN. One night he was doing sportscenter highlights, and Manute Bol and Jawaan Oldham, two rail thin 7 footers got into a fight that ended up with them rolling around on the floor. Greg's line was, "that looked like two brooms falling out of a closet".
I remember him most as an iconic voice of CBS on the NFL mostly. I also remember him calling college world series games too being here in Omaha. Legend of the sports casting game indeed
I was 10 going on 11. During that “very short stint” at NBC. I had moved to Utah , a few years prior, and was taking an interest in the Jazz. After being a fan of the LA and Orlando teams, years prior. Jazz made it to game 7, and wasn’t really knowing what to think(Losing to Seattle the year before). It was coming down to the wire. They gave it to Stockton, and the rest was history. But, the way he called that shot will stick in my mind, forever! ua-cam.com/video/WhDi0Ce_Z5w/v-deo.htmlsi=c4KrgnsDRi_gdz-x

They should rename the studio after Greg Gumble

He called the “Tuck Rule” game, I think?
I hope they do something every selection sunday going forward to honor his legacy on march madness
Selection Sunday won’t be the same
❤
No Greg or Jim Nantz on March Madness anymore hurts
I'm curious to see what kind of tribute on tomorrow's NFL Today will be like. Hopefully very soon, they rename Studio 43 "The Greg Gumbel Studio".
Wow
How can Peter Griffin watch gumbel to gumbel now
He hated the cold in Lillehammer, told me so.
