I'm sorry for your loss. I bet Bob's entertaining her now. ❤
My three aunts too! All in their 90’s. All amazing ladies. Daughters of the Depression and WWII.
Hey, your sister was famous to you. That should count for something, right?❤

Lost my little brother in February. He is was not famous, but he was special to many people who loved him. ❤
RIP president Carter a most decent and generous gentleman with a great moral compass. 100 years old what a fantastic milestone. He's with Rosalyn now the love of his life.. God speed Sir you did good
CBS a most respected tribute thank you - so many lost this year.
To anyone reading the comments who has lost family or friends- my condolences.
❤
Lost my dad in June to bladder cancer. Not a celebrity but the most important person in my life. ❤
So sorry! My condolences to you. Be strong, he would want you to be !
There is a perfect saying, a bible verse in the gospels, that fits with what you said..I lost my mom so I relate..."...there were many others...which if every one should be written, I suppose the whole world would not have space for all the books sthat would be written." John 21:25 (talking of all the things Jesus did when alive) Hoping you enjoy that vs as much as I do, as it is so all encompassing to include you dad...and my mom.
To people, there are stars
To God...all are simply people.
Anything can happen to anyone at anytime... Your father is something in your eyes, he does NOT have to be a star...sincere condolences.
@nolabrah Your father had a great personality and demeanor all his own.The personal gifts he had in this life he generously shared. Although I've never had the opportunity to meet him, I will remember your father, father of Nola. Thank you for sharing your comment. Much joy and love to you this day and the new year (2025) ♥️
😢 lost my Dad in 2011 and I still cry and miss him so much
So sorry 😢
🕊️R.I.P. Add President Jimmy Carter! Age 100! Beautiful soul!!!💕
Oh please one of the worst president's ever
Jimmy Carter was one amazing human,no matter what happened in his presidency ,he was a gentleman,a humanitarian,a kind men who dedicated his entire life to help the most vulnerable ,they don’t make them like him anymore, look what we got now,a rapist ,insurrectionist and convicted criminal !

Farewell President Jimmy Carter 🇺🇸
Thank you for your decency and your service. 😊
Lost my Mom in October, she was valued and famous to me. Life will never be the same for all those people who have lost.😢😢
Lost mine in July 😢
So sorry for your loss ❤
Mothers are number one. It is a huge loss when we lose them. They are the ones who bring us life and have our backs. No one else does this. I miss my mom everyday.
Thank you❤❤❤❤
Not just faces and dates: I've been following these CBS Sunday Morning tributes for the last few years and am amazed at how the stories weave together every time. Every time I see these pieces, I'm somehow both inspired to make an impact and humbled to enjoy the simple things. Excellent work, as always.
I, too, am always struck by the “Six Degrees of Separation” connections that the CBS tribute writers weave at every year’s end. This time it was Kris Kristofferson writing “Me and Bobby McGee”which in the next video slide the Dead’s Phil Lesh was singing; survivor Martin Greenfield who learned to sew in Auschwitz and dressed Presidents and celebrities while the son of Jewish immigrants, Richard Sherman, dressed them in song (beautifully stated!); and M. Emmet Walsh asking Chevy Chase about the children’s book Babar while Lawrence de Brunhoff continued his father’s tale about the beloved elephant. The CBS writers need to be hired for the Academy Award’s In Memoriam segment next year!
My son, Wesley, watches CBS Sunday Morning at 7am sharp. Great show ❤
I wish that the same team did an overall summation of the year's events... the snarky ones that we get elsewhere every year are, well, vapid.
Well said. This segment is a class act with insightful tributes to so many from Quincy Jones, who I was lucky enough to meet once, to the wonderful Jerry West, James Earl Jones, and Holocaust survivor Dr. Ruth to Charles Osgood. Hats off to CBS for this one as 2024 concludes!
TY for these beautiful tributes. May they all RIP. Now we add Jimmy Carter, 100 & Linda Lavin, 87. Rest easy & thank you for your contributions to society.
Those of us who watched Barney Miller will never forget Linda Lavin. 😢
@chrismagruder24 I loved her on there too
@@tj921able didn't know Linda lavin had passed.
@@keithwiggins3131 Sadly, she did, from lung cancer.
This show needs to wait until what truly is the end of the year, before compiling their list of the departed. They should have waited until January 5th because there have been several extra deaths which have occurred since this broadcast, including Linda Lavin and President Jimmy Carter.
OMG.. my dad is on youtube.. he is holding the sign with Willie Mays, He passed in 2020, be still my heart. Miss you Daddy! love you forever.
That is very sweet! I am sorry for your loss. ❤😢
WOW! How COOL 😎 Is THAT!!! RIP To Your Dad & Mr Mays 🪽❤️🪽❤️

@@cherrywimberly5608 💞
How cool that you would find that, too! 🙏
These pieces are always amazing. So extremely well-written and well-delivered.
Please don’t say our dear Dame Maggie Smith was only praised for her acting talent in her later years. Here in the UK she has been adored and admired for decades, not just recently. ❤
And here in the US, too.
Really! Wasn’t she in Upstairs Downstairs??
Gosford park but don't think she was in upstairs downstairs
Surprising considering she starred in movies long before Harry Potter, which is surprising given the fact some people in the US don't really know that deep about other people outside of the US, including Canada and Mexico. It goes to show how split apart the internet has become, to where we still may not know much about people from other English territories, including ones from Australia and New Zealand of all places.
🪄🪄🪄🧙♀️
The best “Hail and Farewell” you’ve ever produced! Thank you.
R.I.P. Jimmy Carter (1924-2024)
R.I.P. Linda Lavin (1937-2024), Linda Lavin died on December 29, 2024 at the age of 87.

I know how that feels. The sister who raised me died in a car accident and my biological mom died with cancer. Like Billy Bob Thornton said regarding the loss of his brother. You will always be half Melancholy and half happy. And that's O.K.

"We're all just walking each other home."~ Ram Dass
For them, the journey has ended. For us, it continues. As the world spins ever onward in the void, so shall the memories they brought us live on. Hail and Farewell, may your stars burn forever bright in our hearts.
Rest in Peace Bob Newhart. You were so loved. ❤
Dame Maggie Smith.. my heart hurts. To all that have passed, we won't forget you. RIP and fly safe.
My mother passed this year, she raised 6 kids by herself and i wish she was here.
I wish Dikembe Mutumbo was mentioned. Passed too soon
And Bill Walton.
He would’ve been deserving for his contributions off the court alone. ☝🏽☝🏽☝🏽
WAIT I DIDNT KNOW HE DIED! I only knew Dikembe Mutombo from an episode of Mean Tweets and his voice sounding very similar to Cookie Monster! That really sucks
and Tito Jackson
@@rockrollangel1972 That's true.
James Earl Carter, Jr. ❤🧡💛💚💙💜
💙
My Uncle Merle Simpson passed earlier this past summer. He was an Army Ranger, one of the first, who served with honor and was a wonderful man. He was 94. His wife, my Aunt Marie passed in December, just months before him. She was 90. They were my favorite aunt and uncle.
Olivia Hussey and I were born on the same day, the same year, April 17, 1951. Talk about facing one's own mortality. RIP, Juliet.
A great fellow Aries.
And she portrayed Mary, the Mother of Jesus in the classic, _Jesus of Nazareth._ RIP💔
I'm a 4/17er too.
I remember reading how Dean Martin Jr.was truly in love with Olivia Hussey
My grandmother who basically raised me while my father was shooting himself in the foot with abusive relationships passed few months ago following her kidneys getting an infection and neglect from both hospital, insurance, and hummana
She was 76, survived breast canser, was both a grandmother and mother figure to me, and was a huge influence in my life
I’m glad you got to experience love and hope you carry it forward internally and externally
My father passed this year, He was 85 years old. ❤🙏🏾
We also lost 2 great singer's who did not make this clip. Frankie Beverly from R&B group Maze and Angela Bofill R& B singer. I'm very disappointed because they deserve the same recognition as other great people we lost in 2024😪💔💚
Also Tito Jackson.
Wow I didn’t know Angela Bofill is no longer here.
Lost my mom last month at 79...and now she is with my dad who passed 21 years ago at 58...
My granddad passed away earlier this month on December 4th. He was 80 and technically 20 because he was born on Leap Day. I considered him my father figure and he was a proud veteran, a Sergeant Major in the Army who served during Operation Desert Storm. Love ya Big Daddy. ❤😢
Leap Year is my daughter's wedding anniversary.
I'm sure he was a great man...Anyone born on February 29th has got to be one of the most humble people in the world--to choose to be born on a day when your birthday is only acknowledged once every four years. Condolences on your loss, and may God bless his memory...🌹🌹🌹
I look at life as a endless bus ride, people get on, and get off, what you are left with is the memories of the journey, and of your journey mates.
In regards to the Hail and Farewell segments that Sunday Morning does.....it makes me sad in two ways:
#1: Of who we lost, and our fond (or not so) memories of those who "got off the bus at their stop".
#2: How far other networks have slid in doing a quality, well put together retrospect; full of respect, objectivity, and kindness. CBS always knocks it out of the park.
The other close one would be TCM, but that one is a Film based retrospect.
Keep it up Sunday Morning, and we'll be here to watch.
I guess you can say that...I do think it's more of a time/space type of timeline you wish to go on as every person's timeline is unique to one another. When that person's timeline ends, the road stops at a dead end. Basically the dead ends would be akin to their final resting place. But it goes to show that cancer, obesity, and many other diseases sure does end up killing many famous and underground people for so many years, heck, one of the founding members of a furry website passed away from cancer as well, but since I didn't talk with him that much, I didn't shed any tears. But Susan from youtube passing as well as the man of "Super Size Me", that was quite a shock. For Liam Payne though, many felt tragic at that point, akin to that of Tim, aka Avicii from 6 years ago.
Wow!👍 Amazing Tribute to them All👏👍, Thank You 🤗
Couldn't get through this whole video without shedding a few tears. God speed to you all. Here's to all those departed souls. May we meet some distant day.❤
My Sister, Linda, you are famous in my world. I miss you so much. I love you.
Lovely tribute. We lost so many good one's this past year. Great job putting so many of them together.

My father died a month ago and i realize now.....its really not that long a stay.
Upmost respect to all of those who passed away this year especially Donald Sutherland and Jimmy Carter
The writing of this piece is excellent. Making the connections between people, and so seamlessly!
Definable voice of James Earl Jones and we still have our precious Morgan Freeman.
Wow. Pieces of our lives.
Land is mortal.
My mother told me before she passed, this isn't my house, I'm just using it while I'm here.
This is the best and most thorough year end tribute to those who left us during the past year. Congratulations to the person and or team that assembled it. A lot of wonderful and talented people from all walks of life. Unfortunately we must also include James (Jimmy) Earl Carter who passed away this Sunday morning after the airing of Sunday Morning. Thank you!
Always beautiful tribute and always shocking how many people we loose. I'm grateful for their talents and laughter
RIP Randy Meisner, bassist / vocalist and founding member of the great band The Eagles! You took it the limit Randy.

Pres. Jimmy Carter now has the honor of being on the list...and the honor of passing away at a century years old.
Rest in peace to Maggie Smith, Louis Gossett Jr. and James Earl Jones. Thanks for the memories!
TY to the survivors of the Holocaust. They are truly HEROS! You are all so appreciated and 🥰 loved.
Although he has never received Grammy's, American Music Awards or other top awards for being the "Legend and Icon" that he is, FRANKIE BEVERLY is still being passed over for recognition...such a shame...I SEE YOU, FRANKIE BEVERLY...RIP💕💕(Theresa L Jackson... 12-30-2024)
Frankie's up there singing for my mom and her crew. 🕊
My angel mother passed away December 11, 2024. I'll miss her entirely. She was the most beautiful soul you could hope to meet.
kind of a bummer to see youtube ads on a video so touching. what a year it was and a great tribute to many lives well lived.
No one can do a summary like this like CBS Sunday Morning.
Thanks! ☀☀☀☀
I agree
This was such a lovely tribute. My Dad was at Pearl. USS Honolulu. He'd been 18yo for 22 days when they struck. He's been gone since November 2001. I still miss him every single day. Mom passed 10 years later...just after midnight 12/08/2011. I like to think Daddy was a Pearl and came and got her when he was done. 💞 We're running out of PH survivors. 💔
Beautifully done. Thanks for the memories.
This is a fantastic tribute to the many beautiful people, that contributed so much to our society, that we lost in 2024.
Including my father, Dennis Ziegenbein, a Vietnam veteran, a dreamer who made his dreams come true and my Daddy.
The last surviving member of the Four Tops Duke Fakir passed away, as well as Tito Jackson and Sergio Mendes.
Thank you for mentioning!!
I kept thinking that someone else passed who was overlooked -- Tito Jackson. Thank you for mentioning him too.
Also, Mandisa.
Yeah, I looked into those while looking up SchoolHouse Rock crew and yet, I found the four tops and found out one or two of those members passed away.

Well done, CBS!
You missed Joe Bonsall..tenor singer of Oak Ridge Boys for over 50 years. He was the lead singer on their song Elvira...which everyone in this country was singing in 1981. I'm sad you missed him.
Elvira!!! I.....think I am remembering that they performed that song on Jerry's telethon one year. What a song! Thank you for reminding us, I didn't know he passed.
That was a huge song back then, remember that one.
Always moved and touched by the memories and stories told that speak to the heart and touch your soul.
Amazing how to put it all together with such a great memories of acting music, culture, painting, and everything. It’s so beautiful though thank you Sunday morning news 👏👏👏
I cried when Quincy Jones died. And James Earl Jones 😢😢
@@jeanetteschock4744 You too?! 😭
I agree. I was so lucky to see James Earl Jones on stage in Timon of Athens at the Yale Rep around 1980. He was unforgettable. I was also lucky to meet Quincy Jones when I was giving a talk about the science of light at Griffith Observatory. Mr. Jones totally understood how light reflects off different pigments differently and asked me to explain it to his wife--what a man of wide and deep interests and talent and insights! Bless him for We Are the World!
No one does the segues that link these people together the way CBS Sunday Morning does. This is a masterful segment.

Brought to tears by all of these legendary losses…coupled with the loss of my maternal grandfather and my dearest uncle, Ralph.
Rest in Peace, Jimmy Carter, who passed away today, unable to make this tribute that aired this morning.
Beautifully put together but the problem with the in memoriams is they always leave people out. My dear friend John Aprea, who died in August, was not in any I have seen. Hoping the Oscars or Daytime Emmys recognizes him. Not because he was an amazing human being but a fine actor so memorable in "The Godfather, Part II," "Knots Landing," "New Jack City," and "Another World." He was also a huge supporter of very young independent filmmakers, as I can thankfully attest to. Miss you, John!
I just watched some old episodes of Matt Houston, tv show from the early 1980s, he was in that show, too.
My aunt passed away November 16th at 84. Rip.
Harry Chandler passed away Monday at 103. WWII veteran who was at Pearl Harbor. To make this report truly complete, it should be broadcast on first Sunday after January 1st.
No Shelley Duvall?!
Agreed! I’m in shock!!! So disappointed!
yeah, makes no sense.
I know, these tributes always shock me.
So many iconic individuals passed away this year.
Very tastefully done! Beautiful tributes, 2024 was NOT a good year! Too many losses: let’s pray that 2025 is more uplifting for everyone.
I know what you mean about losses. In 1995, I knew 11 people who died, including my father and 2 great aunts. The next year, 9 people we knew had babies. Maybe 2025 will sort of be the same way.
Excellent!!! That was very well done, right down to O.J.!!! He might not have deserved it, but your coverage was decent and merciful. And everyone today could use a little mercy!!!
Thank you for producing such a memorable piece. The work at CBS is unsurpassed by anything else offered on video.
