Dear, I have two Baofeng uv 17 PRO GPS. I visualize my position but I don't know what I should do so that the position of one baofeng can be seen in the other. Would you be so kind as to explain to me the steps for correct operation? Thank you so much.
Excellent video, thank you! Did you, by any chance, use a separate gps device to check coordinates against baofeng one? Also can you please tell us if that firmware can be updated somehow as my unit shows "Radio 100, Firmware Ver 1.03 and hardware Ver1.30. Also, if you key down button 8 and power up radio what Does it show on the screen? Many thanks
Great video. Not sure if you mentioned that you were going to power test the new orange model, I think you mentioned it might be coming soon, but if that's not what you were talking about did you get a chance to see if this one is weak in the 2m range like the black one was?
TY very interesting! 😀👍 Just a pitty BF didnt follow through and complete the GPS feature with a feature enabling you to navigate to the other radio with a realtime indicator on the screen.
Great video have you looked into the quansheng k6 its got open source firmware a lot of sofware mods and decent audio. You being a software guy as well as a ham should be able to turn it inside out. I am sure you are busy but its a interesting little radio if you have not already looked into it. Thanks for what you and keep rocking your radios sir.
OK Freddy, after watching this video, I understood how the identification of each equipment works, and that the TRICK is... the DTMF menu - on the correct CPS. This UV17 Pro GPS worths its price. wow. 73 de PY2UTU
I was able to get this working already with my pair of radios, but this was a great tutorial. I will be pointing people to you in future when others ask how. My biggest question for you is whether this will work over a repeater or not?
I have NOT been able to get it to work through a repeater. That would be GREAT wouldn't it? There is an issue with the timing of the transmission and reception of the interaction with a repeater. I am going to conduct some experiments in the future where I eliminate the squelch tail from my repeater to see if it helps. Thank You for the kind words.
Great video!!! Now i wonder if you can do it with another radio with gps? Also ,the radios are on simplex. Can gps work with repeaters? Silly question i know!!!
Lol. Almost every radio I got has a button or switch on it that I don't know what it does. When I see heights different like what you was seeing there is usually a different GIS offset selected. I am not familiar at all with those radios though.
Are you able to use your radios as two radios while in gps mode? As in, can you ping the other radio’s location periodically while in 2-way communication I guess?
@@HamRadioCrusader sadly I can't return it or exchange it. I ordered a programming cable that should be here in a few days. I'm hoping that it's a software glitch and not something on the board like a bad solder point.
Will the red dot in compass mode auto update if you drive towards it or do you have to keep getting updates from other radio by receiving a transmission?
I thank you for the video, very good, and I congratulate you, now about the GPS system of that radio, it is useless, nothing like an APRS radio like Yaesu, Motorola or a simple lanchinin. The criticism is of the radio and its GPS, you appreciate the video.

That is pretty koolbeans. To bad, it only works with the model and not other nearby radios or emergency channels if you're by yourself hurt somewhere with no cell service
This is actually helpful for my son and his airsoft friends. Thanks Freddie!
Good video. Thank you. You make programming, using, and most importantly locating 9 new radios a snap !
Thank You for the kinds words 73 DE KD5FMU
The coordinates sent are correct, it's just that there is some drift between the time you send it and the time you check 5 seconds later
Thank You!! Much appreciated
That's right, not full APRS, but still well suited for emergencies, or just reunion
Great review video, thanks !
Great video really clarified these feature , Thank you
I got 2 of these, great video, thank you!!!!! In woods hunting, each should have a foldable antenna just in case in low ground areas ⚠️⚠️

It would be good if the GPS coordinates could be received via the Google Maps app, it would then be able to show both stations on the map.

The fw v1.03 is the most recent. Versions 1.27 and 1.28 are for the older hardware configuration that misrouted the 1.25m frequency power.

It had that bullseye screen which show direction and distance to other radio. You can then contact them via a cq call or walk in their direction....

I have tried downloading the sofrware. The web page just says "we could not verify the certificate: reason = untrusted"
Their security certificate must of ran out. So I changed from HTTPS to HTTP and it worked.

Every one of these radios is defective. The 220 MHz bands cannot transmit due to a firmware bug

You find your own position, and then use the radio and tell others your position. Emergency services can find you using them
